Joyce Baker Belcher, 66, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at her residence.
Born Nov. 30, 1937, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Gracie Owens Baker. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Glen Belcher; a son, Tony Belcher, Lebanon; two daughters, Glenda Rawlings, Harrodsburg, and Jane Arrendona, Louisville; three brothers, Lester Baker, Perrysburg, OH, Houston Baker, Butler and Frank Baker, Falmouth; seven sisters, Betty Hollin, Aurora, IN., Grace Vise, Bellview, Doris Scott of Cincinnati, OH Alice Etler, Erlanger, America Vangurp of Tampa, FL., and Christine Sapp and Debbie Mayes, both of Mitchellsburg; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 27 at Campbell Dewitt Funeral Home, Lebanon by Edwin Turpin. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Boyle County.
JAMES MATTHEWS
James Allen Matthews, 74, of Marksbury Avenue, Lancaster, died Saturday at Christian Care Center of Lancaster.
Born Jan. 4, 1930, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Allen and Lela Murphy Matthews.
He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include: one brother, Donald Matthews, Garrard County; five sisters, Dorothy Davis, IN, Mary Medley and Iona Votaw, both of Harrodsburg, Joetta Collier, Washington, PA, and Virginia Denney, Lancaster.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 29, at Lancaster Cemetery by the Rev. Bryce McCulley. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.
Ramsey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
ALAN MATTINGLY
Alan K. Mattingly, 52, Salvisa, husband, of Betty Deakins Mattingly, died Wed., Aug. 25, 2004 as a result of an automobile accident.
Born in Lebanon, KY, he was a son of William E. and Marvelle McGohon Mattingly of Lebanon.
He was an owner/partner in Angelucci Acoustical, Inc. He was a member of Bluegrass Sportsman League in Wilmore and Kirkwood Baptist Church in Salvisa.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Jonathan Lee (Angie) Deakins of Salvisa and William A. (Hope) Deakins of Midway; two daughters, Elizabeth (Jeff) Mattingly of Lexington and Toni (David) Hodapp of Georgetown; two brothers, William Pat (Mahala) Mattingly of Lebanon and Barry (Suzan) Mattingly of Lexington; two sisters, Pamela (James) Hopkins of Lexington and Sue Ann (Ray) Daughtrey of Dixon, TN, and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Aline Mattingly.
The funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 28 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington, with Rev. Keith Weldon and Bro. Justin Ellis officiating. Burial was in Kirkwood Cemetery in Salvisa.

ALAN MATTINGLY
Mercer Man Dies In Accident
A Collision Reconstruction Unit with the Lexington Fayette Urban County Division of Police is continuing to investigate a head-on collision that killed 52-year-old Alan K. Mattingly of Salvisa Wednesday, Aug. 25.
A final determination of the manner of the collision has not been made.
The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. when Mattingly’s pickup truck and a tow truck driver by Glen Sampson, 32, of Richmond, collided on Mason Headley Road in Fayette County.
Sampson was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts according to the report released by Lexington Police.
Mattingly was an owner and partner in Angelucci Acoustical, Inc. and was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church and the Bluegrass Sportsman League in Wilmore.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Deakins Mattingly; his parents, William E. and Marvelle McGohon Mattingly of Lebanon, four children including Jonathan Lee Deakins of Salvisa and other relatives.
BOBBY MITCHELL
Bobby “Bob” Mitchell, 75, of Cardwell Road, died Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
Born February 7, 1929 in Hamburg, AR, he was the son of the late James Robert and Ruby Esther Robinson Mitchell.
He was a retired employee of IBM having 28 ½ years of service; a member of Antioch Christian Church, Emmulation Lodge #688, and an Army veteran of the Korean War where he was a prisoner of war and received a purple heart.
He is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Juanita Bowen Mitchell, a daughter, Deborah Ann Mitchell Lay; two sons, James Calvin (Sheila) Mitchell and Robert Allen Mitchell, all of Lawrenceburg; his mother-in-law, Mary Royalty Bowen, Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Melissa Ann Easterling, William Bruce Lay II, and Brian Colin Lay, all of Harrodsburg, Jamie Holynd Mitchell Anderson, Winchester, Joshua Thomas Mitchell, Lawrenceburg, Tiffany Nicole Mitchell, Brandon Allen Mitchell, and Stephen Jacob Mitchell, all of Willisburg; two great-grandchildren, Spencer William Ryan and Trenton David Easterling.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nell Gee and Robbie Mitchell, and four brothers, David, Junior, Clyde and Edgar Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, at Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Bro. Greg Essex and Bro. Don Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be William Bruce Lay II, Brian Colin Lay, Joshua Thomas Mitchell, Brandon Allen Mitchell, Stephen Jacob Mitchell, and Barrett Anderson. Honorary bearers will be Johnny Mitchell, Calvin Bowen, Raymond Bowen, Albert Harris, Jimmy Bowen, Billy Stine, and Bobby Stine.
LUCILLE REED
Lucille Reed, 88, widow of Coleman Reed, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born May 28, 1916 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Joel “Holman” and Mary Cora Curd Kurtz Holman.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church. She enjoyed raising violets.
Survivors include: two sons, Thomas Holman (Wanda) Reed of Salvisa and James E. (Renee) Reed of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren, Jim E. Reed and Jamie Reed, both of Harrodsburg, and Thomas Coleman Reed of Bowling Green; one great-grandson, Nicholas J. Reed of Harrodsburg, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil, Dudley and Herman Kurtz, and three sisters including Omah Yocum.
The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 30 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Alan, Jimmy and Gene Motley, Richard “Dick” and Bob Cheak and James Stinnett.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim and T. C. Reed.
WENDELL SIMS
Wendell Wayne Sims, 60, High Grove Rd., Cox’s Creek, husband of May Bell Pinkston Sims, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.
Born July 23, 1944 in Washington County, he was a son of the late William and Lucille Sims.
He was a retired employee of General Electric Company of Louisville and was currently employed at Wal-Mart in Fern Creek. He was a 1963 graduate of Mackville High School. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Dennis Sims and Ritchie Sims, both of Cox’s Creek; one brother, Bruce Sims of Mackville; two sisters, Nancy (Carl) Blacketer of New Albany, IN and Alissa (Denny) Adams of Palm Harbor, FL, and one grandson, Chase Sims.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Sept. 1 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Calvin Runner officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Pallbearers were Craig, Scottie and Mark Coslow, Larry Isham, Shawn Murphy and Denny and Nicholas Adams.
O. T. BAKER
O. T. Baker, 79, Bohon Road, husband of Loretta Lester Baker, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at his residence.
Born Jan. 1, 1925 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Dorcas Ross Baker.
He was a retired truck driver and farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he was a member of the Faith, Hope, and Love Sunday School class. He was a member of the Lonesome Buckaroos. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, playing guitar, and attending baseball games.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: four daughters, Phyllis (Don) Long, Dianne (Steve) Hayden, Debbie (Mikki) Knight and Kelli (Rick) Morgan, all of Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren; one step grandchild; three great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mattie Baker Coslow and Dorothy Baker Hilton, and six brothers, Marshall Baker, Jay Baker, Norvie Baker, R. C. Baker, Georgie Baker, and Cleo Baker.
The funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Bro. J.W. Knight officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Leach, Delbert Ball, Coleman Durr, Ed Klinglesmith, Hughes and Scottie Coslow, Billy Hilton and Ricky and Jimmy Baker.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Faith, Hope, and Love Sunday School class.
DONALD CAREY
Donald Eugene “Cowboy” Carey, 59, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at the Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born Dec. 1, 1944 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Omer Herbert and Bessie Brim Carey.
He was a farmer. He had attended the Shawnee Run Baptist Church. He enjoyed C.B. radios and working with electrical items.
Survivors include: five brothers, William (Ruby) Carey and Omer (Esther) Carey, both of Harrodsburg, Lewis (Violet) Carey and Robert (Carlene) Carey, both of Burgin, and Thomas (Mamie) Carey of Garrard County; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Barbara Price .
He was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Robinson.
The funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Geoffrey Barrett officiating. Burial was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hank Judge, Paul and Michael Paul Hensley, Danny Robinson, Tom Carey and Brian Day.
BELVE COLLIER
Belve Collier, 85, husband of Margaret Peavler Collier, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 22, 1918 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Byron Breckenridge and Zanner Pearl McGinnis Collier.
He was a retired farmer. He was a Mason. He was a member of Cornishville Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Elwood Collier and Belve Lynn Collier, and one daughter, Beuna Grigsby, all of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Elizabeth Scott of Temperance, MI, Leora Tyler of Harrodsburg and Lillian Tyler of Burgin; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Marvin Lee “Baldy” Collier and Maurice Evans Collier; two sisters, Alma Isham and Violet Steele; three grandchildren, Dana Michelle “Shelly” Releford, Toby Scott Collier and Terry Lynn Matherly and one great-grandchild, Toni Yvonne Matherly.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour and Bro. Jack Guerin officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hunter Coleman, Jerry Jones, Travis Wheeler, Aubrey J. and Hanley McMullin and Lee Howard Releford.
Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
