MILTON CATLETT JR.

Milton L. Catlett Jr., 77, Hycliff Street, widower of Sarah Kathryn Nichols Catlett, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 at the Hospice Care Center of St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born June 20, 1927 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Milton L. Catlett Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth Murphy Catlett.

He was a retired farmer and served as a clerk for local stockyards and tobacco warehouses. He was a director for the Farm Bureau and also served as a delegate to both state and national Farm Bureau conventions for many years. He was a member of the Mercer Gideon's Camp. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and treasurer.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert “Bobby” L. (Rosa) Catlett of Harrodsburg and Jerry Dale (Cathy) Catlett of Winchester; one daughter, Penny Catlett of Harrodsburg; one brother, Eugene Catlett of Murfreesboro, TN; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one sister-in law, Thelma Long.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Craig Catlett.

The funeral will be today, Thursday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Geoffry Barrett and Alma Catlett officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Trayner, Hugh Phillips, Carroll Gritton, Miller Horn, Sherman McMichael and Daryl Catlett.

Honorary bearers will be Nicky Long, Ralph Trayner, Phillip Catlett, Mike Catlett, Kellie Harris, Kathryn Catlett.

Visitation Wednesday after 4:30 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel and Thursday after 9 a.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Gideon's International, Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Memorial Fund, or to one's favorite charity.

NATHA HEDGESPETH

Natha M. Hedgespeth, 89, Mackville Road, widow of Henry Coleman Hedgespeth, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 16, 1915 in Campbellsville, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Annie Sullivan Colvin.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Alan Hedgespeth of Henderson; one daughter, Rita H. Smith of Harrodsburg; one brother, Everett M. Colvin of Campbellsville; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Alton Hedgespeth and one brother, Henry Lee Colvin.

The funeral was conducted Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gene Hall and Rev. Greg Humpert officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were men of the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers were Gay Sims, Caroline Tatum, Betty Russell and Holly Dickenson.

RAYMOND LEE

Raymond Fulton Lee, 73, Harrodsburg, husband of Mary Ballard Lee, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at his residence.

Born May 27, 1931 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Raymond Fulton Lee and Laura Clark Lee of Frankfort.

He worked for Engineered Devices and retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky where he was an electrician. He was a member of Thornhill Baptist Church in Frankfort. He was a a pilot and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Lexington Lodge #1, F & AM, Scottish Rite and was an Oleika Shriner.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four daughters, Katye Lee Carr of OK, Laurie Lee Fenley of TX, Lavonne Thomas of Harrodsburg and Pamela Harmon of Lexington; one sister, Agnes Evelyn Eastman; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, Sept. 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. William A. Hartung officiating. Graveside services followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lexington.

Pallbearers were Kim Fulton Eastman, Mike Elliott, Fred W. Burch III, N.B. Stratton, John Wilson and Richard Russell.

Honorary pallbearers were Don R. Atwood, Howard Lee Graham, Marshall Johnson, C. W. Welch, Charles Wilkerson and Jim Powell.

CLAUDIUS CASEBIER

Claudius R. Casebier, 87, formerly of Pleasant Hill Dr., Burgin, widower of Lois Dean Hays Casebier, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 24, 1917 in Muhlenberg County, he was a son of the late R. A. and Cora Sumner Casebier.

He was a retired senior systems supervisor for the Kentucky Utilities Dispatch. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church were he was a former trustee and greeter and a member of the Young at Heart class.

Survivors include: one son, Bud (Judy) Casebier of Paris; one daughter, Mary (Scott) Olson of Panama City, FL; two brothers, Clarence Casebier of Owensboro and Earl Casebier of Louisville; one sister, Mildred Wells of Greenville; four grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sondra Olson.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Sept. 20 at the Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Dr. Robert Browning officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Depoy.

Pallbearers were Ed, John and Joe Browning, F. M. and Robert Wells, Scott Olson and Barry Woodham.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Burgin Baptist Church Building Fund, the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Depoy, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

JOHN GARTNER

John Gartner, 89, Harlow Lane, husband of Marie Edwards Gartner, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born June 12, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary Barna Gartner.

He was a retired employee of Shay’s Trucking Company in Dansville, NY. He was a member of the volunteer fire department and Rotary Club in Dansville. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Reserves. He was a member of the Catholic church. He enjoyed making model sailing vessels.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Denis (Patsy) Gartner of New Port Richey, FL; one daughter, Rita (Thomas) Bentley of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Joseph Gartner of Sarasota, FL, Michael and Richard Gartner, both of Kingston, NY, and Edmond Gartner of Danville; three step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Gartner and one sister, Rose Marie Hitchcock.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Sept. 20 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Father Joseph Muench officiating. Burial was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery in Mercer County.

Pallbearers were Doc McKinney, Tom Denny, Charlie McCrystal, Paul Enderle and Bill Huff.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Nicholas Cemetery Fund.

CHARLES HAZELWOOD

Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Hazelwood, 70, Sugar St., Salvisa, husband of Norma Jean Parker Hazelwood, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 9, 1934 in Clark, County, he was a son of the late Thomas Hazelwood Sr. and Sallie Lunsford Hazelwood.

He was a retired farmer. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Charles (Beth) Hazelwood of Salvisa and Anthony (Kathy) Hazelwood of Mercer County; one daughter, Elizabeth (Ricky) Keller of Mercer County; two brothers, Carl Hazelwood of Kirkwood and Howard Hazelwood of Frankfort; three sisters, Donna Gash, Susie Cinnamon and Linda Sheperson, all of Mercer County; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Hazelwood Jr.

The funeral was conducted Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Johnny Hockersmith and Jerel Coffey officiating. Burial was in the Kirkwood Cemetery in Salvisa.

Pallbearers were Steve Gash, Wayne Cinnamon, Doug, Perry, Alan, Brent and Howard L. Hazelwood and Scott Sheperson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the Kirkwood Cemetery Fund.

LaVERNE LAY

LaVerne Lay, 88, Carl Lay Lane, widow of Carl Lay, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 5, 1916 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Tim and Etta Pinkston Royalty.

She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture School of Economics, where she was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron. She was a member of U. K. Fellows Society and was a recipient of the U.K. Distinguished Alumni Award. She was a former Scott County teacher and a dedicated social worker in Kentucky for 20 years. She and her late husband owned and operated Tenderlay Turkey Farm and Fort Harrod Angus Farm. She was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church. She was a member of Rose Hill Homemakers and was a volunteer at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include: three sons, Carl W. (Sally) Lay of Woodbridge, VA, Danny C. (Patsy) Lay of Lexington and Eddie P. (Rosemary) Lay of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Sandy (Ralph) Duncan Sacramento, CA; one sister, Kathryn Baker of Mackville; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

The funeral was conducted Sunday, Sept. 19 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Huntley and Boo Royalty, Archie Horn, Charles Turner, Carlton Shewmaker and Jordan Price Lay.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Carl H. Lay Scholarship Room 212 Lexington, Ky. 40546-0091.

LOMAN LONG

Loman W. Long, 89, AK, widower of Margaret Gibson Long, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004.

Born March 10, 1915 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Ivy Corn Long.

He was the former owner and operator of Long Texaco in Loves Park, IL.

Survivors include: two sons, Tom (Sharon) Long and Gene Long, both of Rockford, IL; three daughters, Joan (Bill) Hurd of Machesney Park, IL, Phyllis (Dave) Hawkins of Monroe Center, IL and Janet (Jim) Gibbs of Rockford, IL; two sisters, Marie McRay of Mercer County and Virginia Emichburger of KY; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson and three sisters.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 22 in the chapel of Sunset Funeral Home in Rockford, IL with Pastor Joe Chastain officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
