Kentucky Marriage Records by County

MILITARY RITES

American Legion Post #52, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #54, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 6935 conducted military rites for Robert Hale Oct. 3, 2004 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Those attending were:

Tom Rappleye, Kris Stines, Joe Harlow, Dewitt Sims, Lucian Landers, Tommy Denny, Preston Burgin, Curtis Sherrow, Floyd Shirley and Howard H. Howells.

Buglers were Jerry and Duchess Freeman.

Army representatives from Fort Knox were PV2 Phillip Johnson and Sgt. Chris Sheehan.

HENRY DOYLE

John "Henry" Robert Doyle, 61, of Rogers Court died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 7, 1943 in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late John W. Doyle Jr. and the late Cora Bradley Doyle.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a Baptist. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include: two sons, John Doyle Jr. and Matt Doyle; a daughter, Carol Lee Doyle; a brother, Joey S. Doyle of Louisville, and two sisters, Margie Rosenbarger of Louisville and Pamela Hardin of Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna M. Doyle, and a brother, Roger A. Doyle.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

ROGER GREEN

Roger B. Green, 73, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, September 30, 2004.

He was a retired security guard with the Kentucky State Police and a U.S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include: a brother, Richard Green of Mercer County; five nieces, Doris Bryant and Betty Slusher, both of Lawrenceburg, Lavon Crutchfield of Burgin, Roxie Rogers of Lexington, and Brenda Jones of Shelbyville; three nephews, Bill Lane of Lexington, James Richard Green and Arthur James Green, both of Mercer County; and a good friend, Howard Carpenter and his wife Trish of Lawrenceburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur James Green; two sisters, Beulah Lane and Ruby Robinson; a niece, Juanita Griggs and a nephew, Bud Lane.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 2, at 2 pm at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bud Gritton officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 5 - 9 p.m. and Saturday, after 8 a.m. at the funeral home.

GROVER PREWITT

Grover "Strut" Prewitt, 90, of Danville, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 15, 1914 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John S. and Onie Prewitt.He was a retired employee after 33 years with Palm Beach in Danville.

Survivors include: one nephew, Albert Prewitt Jr., of Danville, and one niece, Gayle Prewitt of Harrodsburg.

Private services were held Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 in Spring Hill Cemetery.

There was no visitation.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT HALE

Robert E. Hale, 69, Versailles Road, Lawrenceburg, formerly of Harrodsburg, husband of Virginia Brown Hale, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at his home.

Born July 27, 1935 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Monte Lee and Alla Mae Wells Hale.

He was a retired sergeant in the U.S. Army having served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, and a member of the Baptist Church.

Additional survivors in-clude: three sons, Robert E. Hale II, Lebanon, Ricky Hale, Danville, and David Hale, Virginia Beach, VA; three daughters, Gayle Adkins, Danville, Lisa Brown, Danville, and Becky Helton, Harrodsburg; one brother, James L. Hale Stanford; five sisters, Roberta Martin, Indianapolis, IN, Alberta Woods, Stanford, Lucille Griffin, Stanford, Janie Cook, Indianapolis, and Virginia Hale, Stanford; 11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Hale; a daughter, Donna Rice; a brother, Eugene Hale, and two sisters, Patricia Hale and Bertha Steele.

Pallbearers were Charlie Wood, Colby Grider, Rodney Brown, Mark Brown, Randall Hale and Josh Hale.

Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Layer, Ken Helton, Chuck Adkins and Jeremy Brown.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Bro. Paul Readnour. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

COLEMAN SOUTHERLAND

Coleman Southerland, 64, husband of Wanda Southerland, died Saturday Oct. 2, 2004 at the UK Medical Center.

Born in Paris he was the son of Hazel Coyle Southerland and the late William Otha Southerland.

He was an assembly line manager for IBM, former owner of Southerland Garden Shop, and a graduate of Bourbon County High School where he was a star basketball player, and he was an avid UK fan.

He was a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, the Herrington Lake Yacht Club, and U.K. Roadcat R.V. Club.

Additional survivors include: a son, Johnny Wash, Lexington; three daughters, Lynne (Bryan) Taylor, Paris, Paula Hartley (Billy) McIntire, Harrodsburg, and Connie Becker (Ralph) Conkright, Lexington; two brothers, Will (Cindy) Southerland, Paris, and Jimmy (Patsy) Southerland, Anderson, IN; eight grandchildren, and six great-granchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Hershel York officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

BRANSON WARNER-CUMMINS

Branson Taylor Warner-Cummins, 6, Quirks Run Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington as a result of a traffic accident in Anderson County.

Born Feb. 2, 1998 in Danville, he was the son of Stephanie Nicole Warner of Harrodsburg.

He was a first grade student at Hustonville Elementary School, played T-ball for the Cubs Baseball Team, was a real farm boy who loved John Deere Tractors, and was a member of the Benton Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include: his maternal grandparents, David and Paula Warner, Harrodsburg; maternal great grandparents, Tommy and Frances Hill, Harrodsburg, paternal grandmother, Debbie Jernigan, Harrodsburg, and a very special friend, Corey Wardrip.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Daniel Wilson and Kirk Greenfield officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Darrell Beavers, Scott Beavers, Mark Wade and Ben Sears.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102, Harrodsburg.

MICHAEL GULLION

Michael Vincent Gullion, 28, of Corinth and formerly of Harrodsburg, died at 12:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Jan. 12, 1976 in Gallatin County, he was the son of Thomas L. Gullion Sr. and Kathy Wright Gullion, both of Corinth.

He was a 1994 graduate of Mercer County High School and a student at Lexington Community College. He was employed by Accu-Staff and was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church in Glencoe.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Bryce Tye Gullion of Louisville; a brother, Thomas L. Gullion Jr. of Harrodsburg; paternal grandmother, Virginia Maddox Gullion of Warsaw and maternal grandmother, Edith Wright of Corinth.

The funeral was conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at the Oakland Baptist Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Don Kannady officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Bryce Tye Gullion Educational Fund, 3195 Baker-Williams Road, Corinth, KY 41010.

Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown was in charge of arrangements.

BEATRICE SIMMS

L. Beatrice Simms, 96, of New Albany, IN and formerly of Mercer County, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at the Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.

Born April 17, 1908 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Arlie and Laura Simms. She was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville and was a graduate of Cumberland College and Georgetown College. She was a history teacher, spending the last 28 years of her career in education at Cumberland College in Williamsburg and St. Mary's College of Maryland where she was Dean of Women.

She is survived by a niece, Joan H. Erni and four nephews, Bob and John Hubbuch and Pat and Michael Simms.

The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 at the Chapel of the Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Cumberland College, St. Mary's College or Georgetown College.

DAVID ADKINSON

David Myron Adkinson, 59, Frankfort, husband of Kandie Prather Adkinson; died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 at Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born July 30, 1945 in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Lee O. and Margaret A. Sims Adkinson.

He was a 1963 graduate of Harrodsburg High School and attended the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University. He served in the U.S. Navy. He served as driver improvement officer for Kentucky from 1968-1972 and in March 1973, while employed as a fire fighter in Harrodsburg, he was appointed the first director of emergency ambulance services for Harrodsburg and Mercer County. From 1976-1980, he was a field representative for the emergency medical services branch of the Kentucky Department of Military Affairs and was named the coordinator for Search and Rescue Programs. He oversaw the distribution of grant money to Kentucky rescue squads and taught search and rescue techniques for 17 years. He was a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Search and Rescue. He was employed in the emergency medical services branch of University of Kentucky Athletics Department and Lexington Civic Center. After his retirement, he was employed by the Message Center for the Legislative Research Commission. He was the past post commander and the present department commander for Sgt. Elijah Marrs, Camp 5, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, past adjutant for Sons of the Union Veterans Reserve and secretary-treasurer of Kentucky Commandery of Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. He was a member of Cornishville Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder, vocalist and song leader. He also attended Jessamine Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Travis S. (Kim) Adkinson of Lexington; one brother, Ronald L. (Cathy) Adkinson of Orlando, FL; three granddaughters, Kayla Grace, Hannah Rose and Caroline Elizabeth Adkinson.

The funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 9 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Heller and Dr. Keith Wiebe officiating. Burial was in Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were Brian Hossler, Crode and Justin Grable, Terry Coslow, Aaron and Joshua Hicks, Patrick McMullin and Dennis Coslow.

Memorials may go to any rescue squad or Marcus and Josephine Prather Scholarship Fund.
