Born March 2, 1925 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Butler Daniel and Viola Frances Hedges Phillips. She was the widow of Elmer Samples.
She was a homemaker and a member of Benson Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Norman Smithart, Danville; one sister, Mary Frances Gibson, Harrodsburg; and one brother, Wesley Phillips, Harrodsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2004 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort.
NANCY THOMPSON
Nancy Catherine Randolph Thompson, 63, 174 Scott Lane, Danville, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at her residence.
Born May 20, 1940 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Deward and Mary Price Randolph.
She was a housewife and a member of Moreland Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Frank Thompson, Danville; one daughter, Dana Simpson, Moreland; four sons, Billy Wayne King, Nicholasville, Gregory Lee Thompson, Larry Gene Thompson and Gary Dean Thompson, all of Junction City; three brothers, Elwood Randolph, Moreland, Billy Randolph, Harrodsburg, and Jerry Randolph, Lexington; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Walls, Junction City; 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 31, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Sperry, Phillip Simpson and sons, Billy King, Gregory Lee Thompson, Larry Gene Thompson and Gary Dean Thompson. Honorary bearers were B. J. Barker, John Carey, Jason Snow and Rick Snow.
The family requests donations be sent to Heritage Hospice.
WILLIAM WHEELER
William Forest Wheeler, 60, of 1471 Dry Branch Road, died Monday, December 22, 2003 at his residence.
Born February 11, 1943 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Forest and Virginia McCrystal Wheeler.
He was a self employed farmer and a member of Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Emily Cornish Wheeler, Harrodsburg; one son: Travis (Linda) Wheeler, Harrodsburg; three sisters; Barbara Rankin, Redwing, MN, Lavern Isham, Harrodsburg, Peggy Peavler, Lexington; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lee Wheeler, and a sister, Patsy Trayner.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Russell, Brent Logue, Darrell Ward, Virgil Monroe, Earl Hungate Jr., Pat Drury, Bruce Noel and James H. Ashford. Honorary bearers were Carroll Drury, Kenny Sims, Robin Peavler, Randy Conley, Chuck Tyler, Eddie Horn and J. D. Parhan.

EVELYN BAUGHMAN
Evelyn Sue Baughman, 52, 1405 Mackville Road, died Monday, January 5, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born April 7, 1951 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Cloe Lucille Sallee Steele Banks, Harrodsburg and the late Clarence Steele.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her husband, Randy A. Baughman, Harrodsburg; her step-father, William Banks, Harrodsburg; one son, Paul Baughman, Bowling Green; one daughter, April Bottom, Harrodsburg; one brother, Clarence "Buddy" Steele, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Terrie Benore, Sylvania, OH and Aimee Popovich, Akron, OH; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Gary Allen. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
WILLIAM BURKE
William G. Burke, 83, of Manns Road, died Thursday January 1, 2004 at his residence.
Born July 5, 1920 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Ballard R. And Love Underwood Burke.
In 1982, Mr. Burke retired from Corning after having been a machinist for thirty years.
He was a member of the Cornishville Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, the Oleika Temple, American Legion, McAfee #229 Masonic Lodge, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Blacketer Burke, Harrodsburg; two sons, William Donald Burke and Harry (Glenda) Burke both of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Nancy C. (Ronnie) Baker, Lawrenceburg; two sisters Gladys, (Stanley) Watts, Harrodsburg, and Garneta (Marcus) Burke Warner, Burgin; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Della Crawford and Helen Joyce Burke, and one brother, Ballard Burke, Jr..
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 4, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour and Carl Blacketer officiating. Burial with military honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donald Keith Burke, Michael Burke, Kevin Burke, David Hupp, Tim Kidd, and Chris O’Bryan. Honorary bearers were Rhonda Baker, Andrea O’Bryan, Robin Kidd, and Vonna Hupp.

JOHNNIE CROWLEY
Johnnie Crowley, 49, of Tabler Avenue, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at his residence.
Born May 2, 1954 in Danville, he was the son of the late Jay Paul and Edythe Broyles Crowley.
He was a truck driver for I.M.I. and loved collecting memorabilia from Harley-Davidson merchandise and bald eagles.
Survivors include: his wife, Paula Hensley Crowley, Harrodsburg; two sons, Jaye P. (Jessica) Crowley, Harrodsburg, and Brian S. (Cari) Crowley, Kent, WA; one brother, James E. Crowley, Parksville; and one grandson, Hunter Crowley, Harrodsburg.
Funeral service were held Tuesday, January 6, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Warren officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Maurice Baker, Paul Hensley, Keith Hensley, Kenny Hensley, Lewis Durrett and Terry Roney.
JAMES DEARINGER
James V. "Lightning" Dearinger, 75, 245 Allene Drive, Danville, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the VA Medical Center, Cooper Drive, Lexington.
Born October 19, 1928 in Willisburg, he was the son of the late Dave and Saddie Springate Dearinger.
He was a retired self-employed barber, a US Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Joy R. Noe Dearinger, Danville; one son, Marvin Lee Dearinger, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one daughter, Angie Gail Compton, Harrodsburg; two stepdaughters, Paula Tatum, Danville, and Mary Alice Carmicle, Middleburg; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Dearinger, William Dearinger and Edmund Cummins, and two sisters, Mable Fourman and Peggy Baker.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 6, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Clyde Strunk officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.

RICHARD DENNIS
Richard Joseph Dennis, 24, 117 South Greenville Street, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born August 15, 1979 in Danville, he was the son of Bobby Dennis, Harrodsburg, and Nina Graham Logue, Burgin.
He was a contractor for Shelby Heating and Air, and a member of Southside Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his fiancée, Angie Murphy, Harrodsburg, his step-father, Stephen Logue, Burgin; two brothers, Anthony Dennis, Danville, and Bryan Lyens, Harrodsburg; paternal grandmother, Joann Dennis, Harrodsburg; maternal step-grandfather, Paul Tyler, New Harmony, IN.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 3, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Sam Stow and Ryan Coatney. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.
Pallbearers were Chip Hartman, Scott Wright, Mike Bradford, Micky Goins, Travis Taylor and David King.
ALMA ELLIOTT
Alma Lucille Lawson Elliott, 89, of Mac Court, died Friday, January 2, 2004 at her residence.
Born August 27, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Demetrius "Pete" and Maude Weldon Bugg. She was the widow of Cleo Lawson.
She was retired from Lawson’s Jewelers which she and her late husband founded in 1941. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where she was a member of the Saints Alive Choir and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Widow to Widow.
Survivors include: one son, Gene D. (Dortha) Lawson, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Mary Geneva Shannon, Pensacola, FL; one sister-in-law, Hazel Bugg, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and a special niece and caretaker, Christine McGrath of Burgin. She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances "Fanny" Gabhart, and a brother, Clifford Bugg.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 3, at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Eddie Russell and Rick Snyder officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

BEULAH GABHART
Beulah Neile Graves Gabhart, 92, of Mackville, died Thursday, January 2, 2004 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born September 16, 1911 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Alice M. Turner Graves. She was the widow of George M. Gabhart.
She was a graduate of Mackville High School and Eastern Kentucky Teachers College. She taught at Mackville Elementary School for 30 years before retiring in 1977. She was a member of Mackville Church of Christ.
Survivors include: one daughter, Anna Neile Gabhart, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane McAfee.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 4, at Carey & Son Funeral Home by Frank Preston. Burial was in Peter Cemetery.
