KENNETH BURNS

Walton Kenneth Burns, 77, 1002 Ridgeway Drive, widower of Pauline Morris Burns, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 at his residence after a long illness.

Born Nov. 9, 1926 in Washington County, he was the son of the late J.W. and Ora Lee Russell Burns.

He retired as Mercer County Sheriff in 1992 after serving three terms in office. He was a former service station owner and operator, a graduate of Mackville High School, a U.S. Navy veteran, member of the Kentucky Sheriff's Association, member of Mercer Masonic Lodge # 777 F & AM, and a member of the Freedom Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg.

Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Carol Logue and Reva Gale Spalding, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Nina Bottoms and Betty Coffman, both of Harrodsburg, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Gene Burns.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Bobby Logue and Elder J.D. Short III. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery

Pallbearers were David Patrick, Armond Bottoms, Travis Lee Logue, Rick Moberly, Ralph Anderson, Terry Myers, Stanley Watts and Marshall Sims Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Angie Stewart, nieces and nephews, and members of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department.

Memorial contributions are suggested to one's favorite charity.

CAROL CANNADA

Carol Ann Wrobleski Cannada, 66, of Ellerson Drive, wife of Marvin Lee Cannada, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at her residence.

Born May 4, 1937 in Rochester, NY, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ruth Reed.

She was a homemaker and had attended the Bruners Chapel Baptist Church. She loved sewing, cooking and her pet poodles.

Besides her husband, survivors include three sons, Gary Reed (Carol Ann) Wrobleski of Harrodsburg, Tommy Wrobleski of Sarasota, FL, and Glenn Philhower of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Robin (Rocky) Mancuso of Rochester, NY and Linda Cannada of Sarasota, FL; a step-daughter, Clair Stephens of Indianapolis, IN; three brothers, Jimmy and Elmer Reed both of Rochester, NY and Fred Reed of Eustus, FL; three sisters, Helen Ellis of Rochester, Betty VanDuyne of Savannah, NY, and Margaret Reed of Georgia; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Reed and two granddaughters, Tabitha and Heather Cannada.

The funeral was held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Humpert officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Wrobleski, Tommy Wrobleski, Glenn Philhower, Rocky Mancuso, Glenn Lee Philhower and Charlie Richie.

WILLIAM D. HARVEY

William D. Harvey, 82, 562 Boswell Street, husband of Betty Jo McHargue Harvey, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 at his residence.

Born July 11, 1922 in Corbin, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lura Felts Harvey. He was a retired sheet metal worker for the Kirk and Blum Company and a member of the Felts Chapel Methodist Church in Corbin.

Besides his wife, survivors include: two step-sons, Samuel Sneed and Hillery Davis, both of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Donata Nelson of Louisville; two step-daughters, Mavin Cavanaugh of Fredrick, MD, and Connie Jo Doram of Harrodsburg; one grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Christopher Nelson.

The funeral was conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Harold Best. Burial was Wednesday in the Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.

RONALD HENDERSON

Ronald Joseph Henderson, 48, of Marimon Avenue, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born March 8, 1955 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Joe M. Henderson and Bonnie Casey of Harrodsburg.

He was a former employee of Matsushita and R. R. Donley of Danville. He was a member of the Baptist church and he loved all sports and country music.

Along with his parents, additional survivors include one sister, Ressa Followell Henderson of Harrodsburg; one nephew, Travis Adam Followell of Harrodsburg; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John L. and Hazel Casey and Earl Thomas and Anna Lee Henderson.

Private services will be Thursday at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Geurin and Mike Conover officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Bugg, Travis Adam Followell, Donnie Followell, Leonard Steele, David ÒHogÓ Collier and Alan Pinkston. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Reynolds, Mary Reynolds, Carol Dean Walters and Chris Souder.

There will be no visitation.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mercer County Girls Basketball Team, 937 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

DUDLEY HUFFMAN

Dudley Huffman, 76, of Cornishville Road, husband of Gertie Elliott Huffman, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at his residence.

Born June 13, 1927 in Cornishville, he was the son of the late Dewey (Colie) and Evelyn Wilham Huffman.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Cornishville Christian Church, McAfee Masonic Lodge #229, Eastern Star and a Kentucky Colonel and he enjoyed fishing.

Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Dudley (Tina) Huffman Jr. of Mercer County; a daughter, Teresa (Steve) Shuman of Mercer County; two brothers Larue (Dolly) Huffman of Cornishville and Kenneth (Roxie) Huffman of Harrodsburg; three granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Stephanie Shuman.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Curtis Sims and Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Reed, Brian Huffman, Bob Hayslett, Terry Winburn, Eddie Burton, Ronnie Britton, Buford Lake, and Ralph Rogers.

DOROTHY G. LOCKARD

Dorothy Gibson Lockard, 86, Burgin, widow of George Lee Lockard died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 19, 1917 in Pineville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Frances Moody Gibson.

She was a home economist for the Kentucky Utilities Company, a Bell County bookmobile librarian and a Pineville Community Hospital Patient Representative.

Survivors include: a son Rex (Norma) Lockard of Jeffersonville, IN; three daughters, Jane Hoskins of Maitland, FL, Mary George (Bill) DeVary of Lexington, and Lynn (Phil) Slusher of Harrodsburg; one brother, Cecil Gibson of Louisville; a sister, Genevieve Carr, Cincinnati, OH; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Edgar Gibson.

The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Mike Hamby. Burial was in the Pineville Kentucky Cemetery with committal services conducted by Bro. Charles Jones.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Burgin Baptist Church.

BRUCE ROYALTY

Bruce E. Royalty, 66, of Wheaton Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at the V.A. Medical Center-Cooper Drive in Lexington.

Born May 10, 1937 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Frances Parrott and Cecil E. Royalty.

He was the former owner of the Boone Hardware Store for 16 years, a former cashier and loan officer for the Anderson National Bank for 13 years and a former realtor with Anderson Realty and Chilco Realty in Lawrenceburg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Believers Sunday School Class, Anderson Masonic Lodge #90, a former member of the Lawrenceburg Lion's Club and past president of the Stringtown Ruritan Club.

He was a board member for the Anderson County Health Department and instrumental in the building of the new facility. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cheak Royalty; a daughter, Lisa (Chris) Blandford of Mt. Washington; two sons, Keith (Terri) Royalty and Darren (Mary) Royalty, both of Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Wilma (Marvin) Grace of Lawrenceburg, Sue (Karl) Rodarmel and Loretta (Larry) Hill, both of Frankfort; his mother-in-law, Mattie Etherington Cheak of Lawrenceburg, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The funeral was at 11 am Monday at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Burton officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Masonic Rites were observed Sunday evening.

Pallbearers were Brian Royalty, Curtis Blandford, Larry Hill, Karl Rodarmel, Jim Cheak, Lou Colpitts and Robert M. Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Nickie Royalty, Brooke Royalty, Blake Royalty, Stephanie Vincent, Adam Blandford and members of the Believers Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church Television Ministry, 111 North Main Street, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

EDGAR LEE STAYTON

Edgar Lee Stayton, 69, 719 Greenwood Drive, husband of Janet Smith Stayton, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after an illness.

Born March 4, 1934 in Marion County, he was the son of the late Charles and Josephine Wooley Stayton.

He was a retired maintenance supervisor of Osram Sylvania in Versailles, a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he was a member and teacher of the Faith, Love and Hope Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, John Stayton, Danville; two daughters, Sonja (Jeff) Cloud, Lexington and Lisa Nan Pack, Springfield; two brothers, Charles Stayton, Louisville, and Robert Stayton, Cox's Creek; four sisters, Betty Pendleton and Mary Frances Crenshaw, both of Lebanon; Lois Lemon, Jeffersonville, IN, and Lou Mae Flener, Louisville and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Old Liberty Cemetery near Bradfordsville in Marion County by Dr. Robert DeFoor. Burial was in the Old Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Monty Smith, Kevin Smith, Scott Tylick, Pat Stayton, Terry Stayton and John Stayton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

GLADYS S. HOLTZCLAW

Gladys Stone Clark Holtzclaw, 88, 4634 Chenault Bridge Road, Danville, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at her home.

Born March 10, 1915 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Bryan and Amy Montgomery Clark. She was the widow of O.W. Holtzclaw.

She was a retired sales clerk and former co-owner of Danville Christian Bookstore. She was a charter member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 50 years.

Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Jean Steinhauer, Danville, Nancy Sipkema, Bedford, NH and Beth Neal, Harrodsburg; a son, Bill Holtzclaw, Danville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bob Trumbo, Marcus Underwood, Russ Newton, Jeff Tribble, Bernard Montgomery and Lester Lawless. Honorary bearers were members of her Sunday school class.

Memorials may go to Lexington Avenue Baptist Church building fund.
