Clay Hardin Jr., 78, of 2939 Cornishville Road, widower of Geneva Morris Hardin, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center on Cooper Drive, Lexington.
Born Feb. 16, 1925 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Clay Hardin Sr. and Hattie Cook Hardin.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a former maintenance employee of Brown and Williams Tobacco Company and a member of the Kentucky Trail Blazers.
Survivors include: a son, Denny Clay Hardin of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Misty Clay Hardin of Nicholasville, and two grandchildren, Courtney and Shane Hardin.
The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Bill Ransford. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County with military rites.
Pallbearers were Wayne Beckley, Charley Brown, Robert Mayes, John Mink, Sheldon Nation and Bobby Perry.
Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Noland and the Kentucky Trail Blazers.
ANNA HERRELL
Annie Lou Proctor Herrell, 95, 400 Pleasant Hill Dr., Burgin, widow of Oakley Herrell, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care Center after a long illness.
Born March 3, 1908 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Atwood and Hattie Smith Proctor.
She was a retired school teacher at the Burgin Independent School District and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby Proctor of Burgin.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Walter Proctor, and a sister, Christine Proctor.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Dr. Robert DeFoor, Proctor Riggins and Mike Hamby. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Leach, Douglas Sanders, Curtis Bailey, David Sims, Bob Williams and David Woodward.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Kestler, Frank Perkins, Pat Lear, Guilford Waggoner, Bill Patrick, Ernest Denny, Bob Thompson, George Brooks, Kenneth Kirkland, Dr. Charles Hatcher, Robert Webb and members of Mrs. Herrell's Sunday School Class at Burgin Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church or to a charity of one's choice.
LYNDALL HOUCHINS
Lyndall Elerd Houchins, 86, Harrodsburg Health Care Manor, widow of Stanly Houchins died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at the health care manor after a long illness.
Born July 6, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lindsey and Rosalee Trower Elerd.
She was the chief clerk at the E.W. Brown Generating Plant in Mercer County until she retired in 1957. She was the first employee hired at the plant and was the only female employee for most of her career there. She enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Coleman Blankenship and Kathleen McLawhorn.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Spring Hill Cemetery by Dr. Robert DeFoor. There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
The Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
ELIZABETH PATTERSON
Sarah Elizabeth Hopper Patterson, 95, 918 Ridgeway Dr., widow of James Thomas Patterson Sr., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at her residence after a long illness.
Born Sept. 16, 1908 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Walter and Lucille Davis Hopper.
She was a homemaker, a member and former president of the Civic Garden Department of the Harrodsburg Women's Club; a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, and a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include: a son, James Thomas Patterson Jr. of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Mary Patterson Relaford of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Patterson Guthrie and Elinor Patterson Turnor.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Owens. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bradley S. Guthrie, James T. Patterson III, Thomas P. Guthrie, George N. Woolcott, James P. Wolfe and Danny S. Goodwin.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
MADGE TAYLOR
Mrs. Katie Madred "Madge" Pope Taylor, 91, of Louisville and formerly of Mayo Road in Harrodsburg, widow of Horace Taylor, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at the Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.
Born Aug. 2, 1912 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Ora Kimberlin Pope.
She was an active and the last surviving member of Unity Baptist Church, where she held the positions of church secretary and church treasurer. She was an accomplished homemaker and cook. She had worked for many years with the Mercer County Senior Citizens providing numerous services for the elderly.
Survivors include: two daughters, Katie (the Rev. Alton) Willoughby and Mary (Madison) Harris Jr., both of Louisville; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Cunningham of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, Roosevelt Jones Jr., Valerie Harris, Kenneth Jones, Madris Harris-Henry, Jeffrey Harris, Carol Jones and Jerome Harris; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Alton Willoughby officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Benny Yeast, Chris Short, James Thurman, Andy Harris, Johnny Cunningham and James Bryant.

JAMES TOVEY
James Tovey, 49, 263 Martin Lane, husband of Pam Jones Tovey, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center after an illness.
Born Dec. 5, 1954 in South Bend, IN, he was the son of Helen Schosker, IN and the late Albert Tovey.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed chef and operated Tovey's Restaurant, formerly Stone Manor Restaurant in Harrodsburg, for a period of time.
In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include: two sons, Phillip Tovey of Indiana and Joshua Tovey of Harrodsburg; two stepsons, Casey Tovey of Michigan and Ben Smith of Harrodsburg; a stepdaughter, Tiffany Smith of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Gary Tovey of Mississippi and John Tovey of Indiana; two grandchildren, and one step-grandchild.
There will be no visitation or services.
The Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
CHARLIE BAKER
Charlie Andrew Baker, 68, of Perryville, died Feb. 8, 2004 at Colonial Hall Manor in Shelbyville.
Born Feb. 10, 1935 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Thomas Baker and the late Mae VanArsdell Baker Devine.
He lived most of his life in Mercer County. He was a self-employed carpenter and a farmer. He was a former member of the Perryville Christian Church.
Survivors include: his former wife, Rosemary Bugg Baker, Perryville; three daughters, Janet Crowe and Tina Baker, both of Perryville, and Charlotte Brammer of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Forest Silas Baker, Marietta, GA, and Carl Baker, Danville; eight grandchildren, and three step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Brammer, Kenny Baker, Bobby Baker, Carl Lee Baker, and Chris Gribbins.
WILLIAM LESTER
William Howard "Zeke" Lester, 76, Riverside Drive, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 in Burgin.
Born March 21, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Hollis and Lucille Lester.
He was a press operator for Corning and a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include: his wife, Marie Alford Lester; two sons, Dennis Howard (Kathy) Lester, Burgin and William Greg (Carolyn) Lester, Harrodsburg; one brother, Carlos B. (Hazel) Lester, Mercer County; one sister, Betty (George) Cook, Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 9, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Humpert and Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donnie Lester, Doug Lester, Kelly Lester, Walter Lester, Duane Lester, George Cook Jr., Clint Lester and Jesse Lester.

RICHARD MARRS
Richard L. Marrs, 57, Byron, GA, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Mt. Vernon, OH, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Elizabeth Hatton Marrs.
He was a self-employed contractor. He was a former Methodist minister in Kentucky and was the founder of the Harrodsburg Christian Life Center.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Marrs, Byron, GA; one daughter, Telly Marrs, Macon GA; one son, Wendell Marrs, Winchester; one sister, Marilyn Breshear, Warner Robins, GA; and six grandchildren including Nathan and Sara Gooch of Harrodsburg.
A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 9, at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Warner Robins, GA.
