RICHARD MITCHELL

Richard Isham Mitchell, Sr., 77, of Marietta, GA, died August 2, 1999.

A native of Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Elizabeth and J. P. Mitchell.

He was a graduate of Georgetown College, the University of Louisville and Northeastern University in Massachusetts.

He was a World War II navy veteran and Past Master of Mount Hollis Lodge in Holliston, MA. He was the former Awards Chairman for Holliston Boy Scouts of America and a former member of Central Mass. Conference of Football and Basketball Officials.

He was Southeastern Director of Sales for G. S. Carrington Co. until his retirement in 1985, a member of Big Canoe, GA Men’s Golf Association, a 50 year member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and a member of St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta.

Survivors include: his wife, Priscilla Breck Mitchell, Marietta; children, Drucilla and Robert Groves, Elgin, TX; Richard J. and Jan Coleman-Mitchell, Big Canoe, GA and J. P. and Trudy Mitchell of Marietta; three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta with Rev. Sue Duffield officiating. Burial will be Saturday, May 13, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Victor Eleazerr officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 Fifteenth Street, Augusta, GA 30310.

JAMES WALKER

James Thomas (J. Tom) Walker, 68, of 107 Walnut St., Salvisa, died Friday, May 5, 2000 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born August 28, 1931 in Mayo, he was a former Bulldozer operator for Lawrenceburg Construction and was retired from Florida Tile after 24 years.

He was a member of Meaux Chapel in Mayo.

Survivors include: his wife, Pocahontas Bradshaw Walker, Salvisa; his mother, Dorothy Walker, Harrodsburg; one sister, Doris Johnson, Versailles; three sisters-in-law, Doris Bartleson and Maureen Dunn, both of Harrodsburg, and Shelia Price Reynolds, Winston-Salem, NC.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home, with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse and Rev. Mary R. White officiating. Burial was in Robinson Road Cemetery, Burgin.

Pallbearers were Alfred Russell, James Patton, Scott Jones, Kenneth Jones, Jackie Freeman and Bob Martin. Honorary bearers were Eugene Faulkner, Truman Bartleson, Jr., John Brock, Johnny Cunningham, Everett Hall, Jr., Bill Sanders, J. C. Cunningham, Lawrence Peavler, Herbert Dunn, Jr., Cecil Bartleson, Wallace Parks and Ruel Lay.

BUEL GULLETT

Buel Jay Gullett, 57, of 181 Daisy Street, died Saturday, May 6, 2000 at his residence.

Born March 24, 1943 in Magoffin County, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Bell Reed Gullett.

He had served in the Kentucky National Guard for eight years, was a member of Benton Baptist Church and a former auto body mechanic for Nevada Auto Sales.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorkas Coslow Gullett, Harrodsburg; one son, Allen Gullett, Versailles; two daughters, Cynthia Davis and Melissa Johnson, both of Harrodsburg; five brothers, Donnie, Jerry, Verlin and Bobby Gullett and Troy Francis all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Susan Francis, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Bryan Gullett; one brother, Melvin Gullett.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Releford officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff, Tim, Kevin, Robert, and Mike Gullett and Kevin Sallee. Honorary bearers were Billy Jo Blacketer, Danny Dunn, Terry and Denny Coslow, Chris and Jerry Colvin.

HOWARD CARMICKLE

Howard L. Carmickle, 77, of Burgin, formerly of Moreland, died Monday, May 8, 2000 at his residence.

Born April 14, 1923 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Erma Merriman Carmickle. He was the widower of Virginia L. Douglas Carmickle.

He was a veteran of World War II, a farmer and a former employee of Douglas Heating and Plumbing. He was retired from Whirlpool Corp.

He was a member of the Bowen United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Irma Woodrow, Burgin, and Lurenda Melton, Albany, GA; two sons, James L. Carmickle, Hustonville, and Jerry S. Carmickle, Moreland; one sister, Lucille Wilder, Anacoco, LA; one brother, Charlie Carmickle, Danville; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, with Rev. John Sanders and Rev. Doug Lester officiating. Burial will be in the Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny, Billy Gary and Calvin Douglas, Randy and Barry Moser. Honorary bearers will be grandchildren: Jennifer Woodrow, Treshanda Morris, David and Heather Atkinson, Todd and Angel Carmickle, Eric and Alison Pollard and James Carmickle.

Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hospice of Danville.

DELTA BEASLEY

Delta Beasley, 94, of 144 Sugar Street, Salvisa, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at her residence.

Born December 26, 1905 in Lawrenceburg, she was the daughter of the late Elisha C. and Josie Beasley Stratton and was the widow of Esco Beasley.

Mrs. Beasley was retired as a cafeteria worker at Salvisa High School.

She was a member of Salvisa Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Delbert (Jean) Harlow, and Mrs. Phil (Margarette) Eads, both of Salvisa; one brother, Melvin Stratton, Lexington. She was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the Salvisa Baptist Church with Larry Koch, Jim Hensley and Johnny Hockersmith officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Stratton, Garvis Stratton, Rodney Harlow, Granville (Butch) Peyton, David Thorpe and Bob Rutherford.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 102, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or to the Gideon Bible Fund, PO Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Visitation will be at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, and after 7:30 a.m. Friday.

CHRISTOPHER JONES

Christopher Lee Jones, 18, of Daviess Street, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.

Born November 13, 1981 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Linda Jones Cadeza.

He was a self-employed lawn care worker, a former student in the Harrodsburg city schools and attended the United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: two brothers, Antonyleto and Nico Jones; two sisters, Nicarra and Lekeshia Jones; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Majors; all of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 12, at the Parks Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Patrick officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Bartleson, Gilbert Cadeza, Van Curtis Majors Sr., Van Curtis Majors Jr., Bentley Jones and Robert Jones.

GERALD PLUM

Gerald Plum, 62, of Meadowbrook Lane, died Thursday, May 11, 2000 at his residence.

Born August 31, 1937 in Atlanta, TX, he was the son of Jessie Campbell Plum of Atlanta, TX and the late Virgil Plum.

He was a self employed construction worker and a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Mozelle Ham Plum, Harrodsburg; one son, Patrick Plum, Wake Village, TX; one daughter, Wendy Plum, Harrodsburg; one brother, Ray Plum, Atlanta, TX; two sisters, Dottie Yount and Judy Moore, both of Atlanta, TX; six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 15, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. George Woodliff officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 113, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 and/or Heritage Hospice, PO Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

DOUG HILL

Larry Douglas Hill, 47, of Anniston Avenue, Holly Hill, FL, died Friday, April 28, 2000 at his residence.

Born May 17, 1952 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Barbara Ross of Burgin and the late Raymond Hill.

He moved to Florida in 1988 and was the owner of D & D Masonry.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Joyce Hill; one son, Todd Hill; one daughter, Tina Grimes; all of Holly Hill; three brothers, Raymond Hill, Goshen; William Hill, Burgin, and Chris Hill, Jacoba, PA; one sister, Barbara Sparks, Burgin; two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 1 at Bellevue Memory Gardens in Daytona Beach, FL.

ROMA REED

Roma Jean Reed, 66, of Lexington, died May 12, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late G. C. and Shannon Wilson Farney. She was the widow of Maurice N. Reed, Sr.

She was a member of the Gardenside Christian Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Wayne (Wilma) Reed, Jeffersonville, IN, Maurice N. (Debbie) Reed, Jr., Lexington; one daughter, Cheryl Reed (Andy) Eckman, Lexington; five sisters, Virginia Camic, Harrodsburg, Marlene Early, LaGrange, Patsy Harshbarger, Tampa, FL, Rose Brogli, Raleigh, NC, and Verna Devine, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary – Southland, conducted by Rev. Joe Bob Grider. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Jessamine County.

Memorials are suggested to the Gardenside Christian Church.

ROXIE VANDERPOOL

Roxie A. Vanderpool, 88, of Bryantsville, died Saturday, May 13, 2000 at the Garrard County Hospital.

Born April 25, 1912 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Bonnie J. Yocum Goodlett. She was the widow of Bruce J. Vanderpool.

She was a retired homemaker and a member of the Bryantsville Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Robert "Buster" (Helen) Vanderpool, Danville, Charles Vanderpool and Leslie (Sandy) Vanderpool, both of Lancaster; one daughter, Jo Ann Vanderpool, Frankfort; one brother, James Edward Goodlett, Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William R. Vanderpool.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 16, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Tom Crawford officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rusty and Jerry Vanderpool, Danny, Jack and Anthony Woods, and Bert Ray. Honorary bearers were Mike Killion, Jerry Rogers, Dale Kirby, Christy Killion, Cheryl Vanderpool, Michael Killion, Kim Vanderpool and April Graft.
