FRANCES HOOD

Frances Britton Hood, 86, Louisville, wife of W. Alfred Hood, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville after an extended illness.

Born June 15, 1918 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Claude Andrew and Nettie Patterson Britton.

She attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She was a former member of the Crescent Hill Woman’s Club in Louisville, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Jill (Jim) Soeder and Ann (Frank) Brooks, both of Louisville; one sister, Christine Britton Foster of South Carolina; five grandsons, and two granddaughters-in-law.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Spring Hill Cemetery with her pastor, Rev. William Johnson, officiating.

A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206.

Arrangements were handled by Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206.

Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to her church.

ETHEL MATTINGLY

Ethel Peavler Mattingly, 80, Mackville, widow of Hughie Walter Mattingly, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at the Springfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Aug. 15, 1924 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Rucker and Ada Curtsinger Peavler.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ann Keeling of Montgomery, AL; three sons, George Donald Mattingly of Bardstown, Billy Joe Mattingly of Mackville and Gerald Mattingly of Willisburg; one brother, Rod Peavler, also of Mackville; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Wood Curtsinger and Perry Curtsinger.

The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Stuart, a former pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Pallbearers were Billy Joe Mattingly II and Donald and Brandon Mattingly, Jerry Fowler, Josh Noel and Terry Bishop.

Honorary pallbearer was Billy Yankey.

Arrangements were handled by Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield.

HARVEY SEGAL

Harvey Segal, 64, Rose Hill Lane, husband of Melissa Gail Curtsinger Segal, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born July 3, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth Segal.

He was a security guard for Allied Security, a member of the Typographical Union #6 and a reformed member of the Jewish faith.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two stepsons, Michael Curtsinger of Nicholasville and Jeffery Sears of Lexington; two daughters, Stacy Brickel and Amy Segal, both of Long Island, NY, and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 9 at the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rabbi David Sogin officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keith and Adam Champion, Michael Curtsinger, Jason Boyd and Jeff Byrd.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.

ELISABETH TOLL

Elisabeth Pauline Earlywine Toll, 82, of Wheat School Road, Salvisa, died Sunday, February 6, 2005 at her home.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Ann Wiley, Lawrenceburg, Dorothy Evelyn (Marvin) Smith, Salvisa; three sons, Robert Lee Toll, Thomas Allen (Sandra) Toll, and Benny Ray (Vicky) Toll, all of Lawrenceburg; one brother, William P. (Joyce) Earlywine, Salvisa; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jodie Toll, a sister, Dorothy Cunningham, and a brother, Eugene Earlywine.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 9, at Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

EUGENE WILLS

Eugene Roberts Wills, 77, Longview Street, husband of Alberta Napier Wills, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Sept. 23, 1927 in Cincinnati, he was a son of the late William Jasper and Eva Roberts Wills.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the Phillipines. He had worked at Bluegrass Army Depot for 28 years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Salvisa Baptist Church where he attended the Adult Men’s II Sunday School Class. He enjoyed the outdoors and reading.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Willa Wills (Tom) Mekelburg of Mercer County; three brothers, Calvin (Reba) Wills of Carlisle and Carl (Elizabeth) Wills and Ronnie (Carol Clay) Wills, both of Lexington; one sister, Patsy (Avin) Hicks of Carlisle; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his special grandparents, Harold and Jennie Roberts, and one brother, Norman Wills.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Feb. 7 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Clark officiating. Burial with military honors was in Carlisle Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Cannon II, Jay Reynolds, A.C. Smither, Mike Quarles, Chris Cohee and Tom Mekelburg.

Honorary pallbearers were Calvin, Carl and Ronnie Wills, Avin Hicks, Stuart Weatherford and Bill Burden.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Salvisa Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 75, Salvisa, KY 40372.

PAUL BAILEY
Paul Bailey, 87, Harrodsburg, husband of Mildred Donovan Bailey, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at his residence.

Born July 29, 1917 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Page and Pearl Leonard Bailey.

He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and the Mercer Lodge 777 F&AM. He had been a butcher at Bailey’s Supermarket, manager of Burgin Rock Quarry, a former volunteer fire fighter, was a Kentucky State arson investigator, a retired funeral director, a former co-owner of Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home and Coyle Funeral Home in Perryville and most recently a farmer. He was also a well-known antique car collector.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four daughters, Gloria Davis and Paula (Bob) Freeman-Cairns, both of Harrodsburg, Patricia (Doug) Lumpkin of Knoxville, TN and Donna Freeman of Louisville; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Bailey, and three sisters, his twin sister Mary Hatchell, Bertie Claunch and Beatrice Mobley.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Bailey, Doug Lumpkin, Bob Cairns and Paul Hunter, Damon Dak and Jerry Davis.

Honorary pallbearers were John D. Brown, Johnny Thornton, Curtis and Jack Bailey, David A. Taylor, Charles Carr, L.G. Meeks and Terry B. Mobley.

Arrangements were handled by Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

LEO BRADSHAW
Leo W. Bradshaw, 68, Sunset Lane, husband of Connie Bradshaw, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 4, 1936 in Jessamine County, he was the son of Leona Goforth Bradshaw of Harrodsburg and the late John Bradshaw.

He was a farmer, a Dix Dam security guard and a member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four sons, Gary Lee Bradshaw of Winchester, Kenneth Bradshaw of Powell County, Billy Gene Bradshaw of Harrodsburg, and Jeff Bradshaw of Waynesburg; three daughters, Joann Chilton of London, Janet Irene Boughter of Harrodsburg and Constance Leona Adams of Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Barbara Bradshaw, Joyce Murry, and Carolyn Belcher, all of Harrodsburg, and Lenora Nave of Burgin; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Destiny Irene Chilton.

The funeral will be today, Thursday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Mike Cox officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Douglas and Dallas Chilton, Jeffrey D., Gary, Kenneth, Billy and Jeff Bradshaw and Marshall Simpson.

Honorary bearers will be Scotty Boughter Sr. and Scotty Boughter Jr., Tyler Turner, Chris Chilton, Danny Adams, Petie Bradshaw, James Johnson and Jeremy Raines.

Visitation, Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 6 until 9 p.m. and prior to the service Thursday at the chapel.

RUSSELL BROWNING
Russell Hamilton Browning, 72, passed away Mon., Feb. 7, 2005 in Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown.

He was a native of Fayette Co., a retired employee of Central Parking Systems in Lexington and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Kestel of Lexington, one son, James Russell Browning of Salvisa, his mother, Mrs. Sylvia Hill of Bardstown, one sister, Mrs. Loraine Stumph of Bardstown, one brother, Doyle Browning of Trenton, OH, caregiver Ann Burris of Lexington, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with interment in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

DONALD CARMICKLE
Donald Cooper Carmickle, 57, Lexington, died Tuesday Feb. 8, 2005 at his residence.

Born Dec. 1, 1947 in Mercer County, he was a son of Alberta Cooper Sims of Lexington and the late R.T. Carmickle.

He was self-employed for 35 years doing home improvement in Lexington and surrounding areas, and he enjoyed horse racing.

Survivors include: his step-father, Gayle Sims of Lexington; two sons, Donald Dax (Margaret) Carmickle and Derek Cooper Carmickle, both of Lexington; two brothers, Jerry Wayne (Sue) Carmickle of Georgetown and Bobby Thomas (Debi) Carmickle of Columbus, GA; one sister, Teresa Gail Stephens of Lexington; one grandson, and several nephews and one niece.

The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 11 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Hurst, Trent and Travis Stephens, Jeff and Richard Carmickle and Randy Samples.

Honorary pallbearers were Juett Redmon, Bert Sorrell, Roger Bernard, Mike Brown, Raymond Helenberg and Leroy Horton.
