WILLIAM PERROS

William Stivers Perros, 86, of Taylor Road, Danville, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born Oct. 13, 1918, in McLean, Ill., he was a son of the late Mike and Margaret Baker Perros.

He was a retired employee of Kentucky Utilities Company, having been a coal yard supervisor at the E.W. Brown power plant. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Franklin Lodge 28 F&AM and Apache Bowhunter Club. He was the widower of Ethel Louise Glass Perros.

Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia P. Clifton, Danville, Nancy P. Caudill, Frankfort and Rebecca O. Robinson, Harrodsburg; one brother, George Perros, Danville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, March 18, at Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Joan A. Smith.

Pallbearers will be Mike Perros, Barry Young, Tony Robinson, Charles Caudill, Vincent Vanover and Ben Fuqua.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Stith Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to Thomson-Hood Veterans Centre, 100 Veterans Drive, Wilmore 40390.

BOBBY ROYALTY
A graveside memorial service with military rites for Bobby Gene Royalty will be held Friday, March 25, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Burgin Memorial Gardens. He died December 22, 2004 at his residence. He was the husband of Nancy Lowe Royalty and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

RUTH RUSSELL
Ruth Saylor Russell, 83, of Hamilton, GA and formerly of Harrodsburg, wife of John H. Russell, died March 21, 2005 at Martin Memorial Hospital, Stuart, FL after a brief illness.

Born April 16, 1921 in Berea, she was the daughter of the late Fuson and Margaret Hoskins Saylor.

She was a 1938 graduate of Berea High School and attended Berea College. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Columbus, GA and attended Mountain Hill Baptist Church for the last few years.

During World War II, she served for two years in the U. S. Navy.

Additional survivors include: two daughters, Margaret "Meg" Lynn (David) Russell-Cornett of Pine Mountain, GA and Susan Russell (Rick) Summers of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Lynn R. Proctor and Annetta Russell, both of Danville; five sisters, Christine Custer of Cincinnati, OH, Genice (Jack) Bullock of Lexington, Carolyn (Bob) Sloe of Berea, Betty Goldberg and Pat Rettman, both of Louisville; three brothers, C. J. (Jean) Saylor of Okeechobee, FL, W. A. Saylor of Bonita Springs, FL and Charles (Bobbie) Saylor of Mt. Vernon.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005 at Stith Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday.

Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces.

DONNA VANARSDALL
Donna Marie VanArsdall, 89, widow of Riker VanArsdall, died Sunday March 13, 2005 at the Pimlico Manor Nursing Home in Lexington.

Born Feb. 29, 1916 in Baker, OR, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma Southworth Bagley.

She was a retail clerk for many years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include: three daughters, Marie Fletcher of Nauvoo, IL and Linda Fine and Nancy Ormson, both of Amarillo, TX; one son, Richard Pearce of Fairfax, VA; one brother, Clifford Bagley of California; 20 grandchildren, and 48 great -grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Linford Lee Roy Pearce; two brothers, Elwin and Verl Bagley, and three sisters, Velma, Lucille and Fern Bagley.

The funeral was held Saturday, March 19 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

BETTY WELCH

Betty Lou Shewmaker Welch, 54, of Bedford, Texas died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas after a long illness.

She was born May 8, 1950 in Harrodsburg and was a native of Springfield. She was senior professor at DeVry University in Dallas, Texas; a graduate of Washington County High School, Georgetown College and Eastern Kentucky University; and a member of First United Methodist Church of Hurst, Texas.

Preceding her in death was her father, Maurice Bland Shewmaker.

Survivors include her husband, Matthew Welch; two sons, Sam Scearce and Ben Scearce; one granddaughter, Chelsea Welch, all of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area; her mother, Doris Shewmaker of Springfield; and one brother, Dallas Shewmaker of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas with Rev. Michael McKee and Rev. Steven Bell officiating.

Interment was in Bear Creek Cemetery in Euless, Texas.

RUSSELL YOCUM
Russell Gentry Yocum, 39, Lexington, husband of Andrea Hutson Yocum, died Friday, March 18, 2005.

Born June 10, 1965 in Frankfort, he was a son of Larry Gentry Yocum of Versailles and Phyllis Cox Yocum of Harrodsburg.

He was an employee of Larry Yocum Painting and a former police officer for the City of Versailles.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: his stepmother, Gayle Yocum of Versailles; one daughter, Lindsey Yocum of North Carolina; one brother, Chris “Bro” Yocum of Versailles, and one stepsister, Lesley Crossfield of Lexington.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 23 at Southside Christian Church in Versailles with Rev. Ronnie Hupp officiating. Private burial was in Burgin Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Versailles.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

BARBARA ROSS
Barbara A. Ross, age 70, Burgin, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born April 14, 1934 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse G. and Bertha (Goodpaster) Grubbs. She was a retired seamstress from the Cricketeer Manufacturing Company and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include: her husband, Adrian Thomas Ross; one daughter, Barbara Hill Sparks of Harrodsburg; two sons, Raymond Hill of Goshen and William Hill of Burgin; one sister, Alice Darland of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Harold Grubbs of Mackville and Ronnie Grubbs of Shepherdsville; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Wednesday 1 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Johnny Hockersmith. Burial followed in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Gary Curtsinger, Travis Land, Randy Darland, Kenny Williams, Danny Humber and Harold Grubbs.

ROBERT HARDIN

Robert Lee Hardin, 90, Harrodsburg, formerly of Washington County, died Sunday, March 27, 2005.

Born, May 26, 1914 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Colie and Ida Chesser Hardin.

He was a retired farmer and honey-bee keeper. He was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church for over 50 years and a member of Cornishville Baptist Church for the last 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruby Sims Hardin; one son, John (Rita) Allen of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Susie (Junior) Russell of Willisburg and Judy Harmon of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Reid White, Jeff Harmon, Todd Hardin, Charles Russell, Brad Robinson and Donald Litteral. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons, Justin White, Chuck Russell, Mikie Whiteneck, Eric Harmon, Casey Robinson, J.D. Jones and Junior Hardin.

AMOS LUSTER

Amos Clifton Luster 78, husband of Alma Marie Kirkpatrick Luster of Central Pike, died Thursday March 24, 2005 at his residence.

Born in Casey County March 24, 1927, he was the son of the late William Edward and Rosa Lee Hatter Luster.

He served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II., having earned the Victory Medal. He was a retired PBX switch board repairman for General Telephone and was a member and former trustee of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was an accomplished woodworker, enjoyed gardening, lawn care and helping friends and neighbors.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Dona J. Proctor of Harrodsburg and Debra Gregston of Sikeston, MO; one brother, Willie Luster of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Clifton Lee Allen Proctor.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Easterling officiating. Interment with military honors were in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vincent Waters, Aaron Gray, Wallace Sheperson, Chris Gregston, Richard Nichols, Herbert Proctor and Keith Gregston.

Honorary pallbearers were J.H. Whitenack and members of the Hopewell Baptist Churcch Senior Men's Sunday School Class.

RAY GRIFFIETH

Ray Griffieth, 73, of Old Dixville Road, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at his residence.

Born June 14, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Abe and Mary Davis Griffieth.

He was a self-employed carpenter and a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed attending High School Sports and gardening.

Survivors include: his son James Ray (Teresa) Griffieth of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Marquita (Rick) Helton of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Edward Griffieth of Harrodsburg and Roy Griffieth of Stanford; two sisters, Betty McGinnis of Harrodsburg and Jewell Buchanan of Middletown, OH; six grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and John Griffieth, and two sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Margaret Peavler.

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Griffieth, James Routin, Jerry Houck, John Mink, Condit R. Mink, and Oscar Moberly, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry McGinnis, Jr., Ricky Helton, Carl Brent Helton, Travis Helton, and Jonathon Griffieth.

BEULAH SMITH

Mrs. Beulah Smith, 87, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born April 18, 1917 in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Molly Coslow Carrier.

She was a homemaker, a member of Benton Baptist Church and enjoyed making quilts.

Survivors include: two sisters, Lettie Smith and Mary Roberts, both of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren, Sherri Lancaster, Kim Smith and Jason Smith, all of Harrodsburg; three great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Shirley Smith; six brothers, Marvin Carrier, Russell Carrier, Garnett Carrier, Raymond Carrier, Elwood Carrier and John Will Carrier, and a sister, Geneva Phillips.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
