Louise Scott, 68, widow of Danny Scott, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital East, Lexington.
Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Davis and Mary Vandiveer Marksbury.
She worked in the family businesses.
Survivors include: one son, Bill Scott, Sorrento, FL; and one daughter, Kim Scott, Harrodsburg.
A graveside service was held Monday, May 16, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington, by Minister Ronnie Hupp.
Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.
LEROY TAYLOR
Leroy Taylor, 69, Danville, husband of Peggy Blacketer Taylor, died Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born, June 7, 1935 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Edwin Lee and Mary Elizabeth Coleman Taylor.
He was a retired employee of Whirlpool and was a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church. He was an accomplished musician and was known to his friends as “Dobro Man.” He also enjoyed NASCAR and was a Jeff Gordon fan.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Leroy Taylor, Jr. of Harrodsburg and James Earl Taylor of Junction City; one daughter, Connie S. Gammon, also of Junction City; two brothers, Herman Taylor of Junction City and Fred Darson, Columbus, OH; one sister, Carolyn Hardin of Junction City; eight grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Ann Taylor; one son, Jerry Lee Taylor, and one sister, Ruby Harrison.
Funeral services will be today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Fields officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David, Tommy and Jimmy Harrison, Doug Taylor, Harrison and Russell Hardin, Howard Warner, and Ernie Prather.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Visitation Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. and Thursday after 7 a.m. at the funeral home.
CLAUDE CHRISTIAN
Claude O. Christian, 76, Danville, formerly of Ashland and Paintsville, husband of Naomi Sergent Christian, died May 19, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Aug. 19, 1928 in Haldeman, he was a son of the late Herb and Mamie Sturgill Christian.
He served his country in 1946 and 1947 in the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He graduated from U.K. in 1953, majoring in agriculture, and received his masters in extension administration at Michigan State University. He worked for the U.K. College of Agriculture State Extension Program as Johnson County extension agent and served as area director of the North/Northeast counties of Kentucky. He received the Certificate of Distinguished Service to the Agricultural Industry and was a Kentucky honorary commissioner of agriculture and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the U.K. College of Agriculture. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Debbie (Tony) Lawson of Harrodsburg and Susan Christian of Austin, TX; four brothers, Verner (Louise) Christian of Miamisburg, OH; Carl (Kathryn) Christian of London; Ralph (Jenny) Christian of Jacksboro, TN; and Jimmy (Doris) Christian of Franklin, OH; two sisters, Bernice Gulley and Marie Gulley, both of Morehead, and one granddaughter, Amber Wiley of Harrodsburg.
The funeral was held Sunday, May 22 at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel in Morehead with the Rev. C. Hoge Hockensmith and the Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating. Burial was in Brown Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

MARY COKER
Mary L. Coker, 87, Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Sept. 8, 1917 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Worley and Isa Mae Adkinson Lay.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Cornishville Christian Church. Survivors include: two daughters, Darcye Wohner of Harrodsburg and Betty Watts of Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Wilma Mobley of Harrodsburg, Virginia Isham of Lawrenceburg and Aimee Ross of Springfield; two brothers, Leo Lay of Willisburg and Hollis Lay of Illinois; four grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral was held Friday, May 20 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John McDaniel officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Mobley, Jerry, Tony and Paul Coleman Lay, Monte Meadows and Mark Isham. Honorary pallbearers were Danny, Ricky and Larry Lay, Connie Dale Ross and Brad Meadows.
MILDRED COLYER
Mildred Sanders Colyer, 78, Melrose Avenue, Danville, widow of Arthur Richard Colyer Jr., died Monday, May 23, 2005 at her residence.
Born May 13, 1927 in Dugansville, she was the daughter of the late Verner and Dorothy Wilham Sanders.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Emily Colyer of Danville; one son, Richard S. (Lori) Colyer of Hillsborough, NC; two grandsons, Robert A. Colyer and Patrick A. Colyer.
A graveside service will be held today, Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery with Father Robert Kirkpatrick officiating.
Visitation Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.
The family requests memorials be made to American Cancer Society or Trinity Episcopal Church.

Mary Katherine Overstreet Edwards, 86, formerly of Perryville, died Tuesday May 24, 2005 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

BRIAN MOORE
Brian Courtney Moore, 48, Columbus, OH, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at his residence due to complications from diabetes.
Born Sept. 14, 1956 in Lexington, he was the son of Robert “Bob” H. and Martha Foree Moore of Lexington.
He had attended Harrodsburg Christian Church and was a former client support administrator for SolidStates Controls. He loved NASCAR racing, music, and playing the guitar.
Survivors include: one sister, Holly (Mark) McCord, of Lexington; one niece, Rachel Elizabeth McCord; his former wife who supported and cared for him until the very end, Gerinda Moore, Columbus, OH.
A graveside service was held Saturday, May 21 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

JAMES PYLES
James Laurence Pyles, 91, of Locust Bend Farm, May’s Lick, died Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.
Born June 4, 1913 on the family farm, Pyles was the son of the late W. E. and Lillian Van Sante Pyles. He married the late Mary Elizabeth Hutton, daughter of the late D. M. and Grace Linney Hutton of Harrodsburg, on Oct. 26, 1943.
The Huttons were the former owners and publishers of The Harrodsburg Herald. Mrs. Pyles was publisher after the death of her sister, Jane Bird Hutton, who was publisher for many years. The newspaper is currently owned by the Pyles children.
Pyles graduated from May’s Lick High School in 1930 as the class salutatorian. He attended Kentucky Wesleyan College and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky in 1934.
After college, he formed a farming partnership with his father, W. E. Pyles, that lasted until the elder Pyles’ death in 1963. The Pyles’ farm included such enterprises as a chicken hatchery, egg production, dairy cattle, beef cattle and tobacco.
He served as a director of the Bank of May’s Lick (later Community First Bank) for 25 years, retiring as director in 1999, and was a member of the Mason County Board of Education, a position that his father once held. He was a member of Old Washington Inc. and supervised the restoration of many buildings in Old Washington. He enjoyed remodeling and renovating houses and bought and restored several buildings in Maysville. He also restored several houses on the farms he owned.
He was a member of the Mason County Farm Bureau, Old Church Society, Mason County Historical Society, Mason County Genealogical Society, The Maysville Contract Bridge Club, the Sons of the American Revolution and the May’s Lick Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Jane Pyles (Glenn) Collins of May’s Lick; Dr. Grace Pyles (Dr. Phillip) Yunker of Maysville, and Elizabeth Pyles (Bill) Turner of La Grange; nine grandchildren, Jamie (Lisa) Collins, Danny Collins and John (Elaine) Collins, all of May’s Lick; Dr. Jacob (Tosha) Yunker of Birmingham, AL; Gwen Y. (Tony) Kielman of Maysville; Will Turner and John Turner, both of La Grange; Laura Pyles (Matt) Kelly of Murray, and Charlie Pyles of Harrodsburg; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Millie Pyles of Harrodsburg; two nephews, and a cousin.
Pyles was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Mac Pyles; his sister, Mary Inlow Pyles Rees; an infant sister, and two brothers, Samuel Howe Pyles and William Eugene Pyles.
Services for Pyles will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at his home at 6230 U.S. 68, May’s Lick. The Rev. Wayne Barnett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Shannon Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the home.
Pallbearers will be Jamie, Danny and John Collins, Charlie Pyles, Jacob Yunker and Tony Kielman.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Maysville First Christian Church Building Fund or the May’s Lick Christian Church Building Fund.
ELMER REID
Elmer Payne Reid, 79, formerly of 433 West Broadway, Harrodsburg, died Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center after a long illness.
Born April 14, 1926 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Rev. Elmer Payne Reid Sr. and Mary Louise Bradshaw.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February 1945 to August 1946. He was a factory worker, employed by Cudahy for over 36 years, and he was a member of the St. Peter AME Church where he sang in the Men’s Chorus.
Survivors include: one sister, Bessie VanDyke Henderson of Harrodsburg; a special friend, Cora Allen of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Covington; two brothers, Henry Hines and James Edward Hines Jr., and one sister, Lula Reid.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, May 24 at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery, U.S. Hwy. 27 in Nicholasville with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military rites.
Arrangements were handled by the Parks Funeral Home in Harrodsburg.
LEON ROBINSON
Leon Robinson, 64, Votaw Lane, husband of Drenda Tapscott Robinson, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born April 7, 1941 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Orvin Lee and Lavina Gulley Robinson.
He was a member of the Grapevine Christian Church, he had been a lineman for R.E.C.C., and he was a carpenter and farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, Kenneth (Darlene) Robinson and David Allen (Jackie) Robinson, both of Mercer County, and James Edwin (Pauline) Robinson of Russell Springs; two daughters, Beverly Robinson Sparrow and Keawanna (Scott) Garrison, also of Mercer County; one brother, William O. Robinson of Burgin; five sisters, Latricia Guy, Sue Scarborough, Virginia Hope Robinson, Judy Kinkaid, all of Burgin, and Margaret Osbourne of Harrodsburg; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert H. Robinson.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

ORRIE RUSSELL
Orrie McClure Russell, 75, Kelly Way, Lebanon, husband of Martha Gordon Russell, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Spring View Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1929 in Washington County, he was a son of the late Johnnie B. and Eula Frances Coyle Russell.
He was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church and a former owner and operator of Springfield Finance Company and the former Russell’s Shop Worth and a farmer.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Jimmy Russell of Park City; three brothers, Lloyd Russell of Springfield, Shelby Russell of Burgin and Edward Russell of Harrodsburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George O. Russell, and one sister, Ruth Ann Russell.
The funeral was held Friday, May 20 at the Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Dillehay, pastor of the Cave City Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Wendell Romans, former pastor of Beech Grove Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Bob Walker, Bobby Hodgen, Lonnie Boswell, Leonard Mattingly, Chester Holderman and Kenneth Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Nora Lea Benedict, Audrey and Mattie Mattingly, Mattie Kays, Nancy Cambron, Essie Padgett, Mary Helen Russell, Juanita Hodgen, Elsie Coulter, Mitchell Reynolds, John Edward and Leo Keeling, Joe Funk, Paul Howard, William Edgar Hardin and Donal Gordon.

INA BELL STEELE
Ina Bell Steele, 69, 601 Cornishville Street, widow of Orville M. Steele, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Aug. 5, 1935 in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Florence Baker Eversole.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include: four sons, Wayne (Brenda) Steele, Mitchell Steele, Richard (Betty) Steele and Kerry (Kristin) Steele, all of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Jean Hendrickson and Doris Ann Adkins, both of Anderson, IN; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday, May 21 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wesley Gaddis, David Pike, Adam Hart, Anthony and Jason Mobley and Aaron Steele.

JOHN VAUGHN
John Wallace Vaughn, 69, of Lexington, husband of Lois Miller Vaughn, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at his residence.
Born Oct. 31, 1935 in Lexington, he was the son of the late John Wallace and Nancy Blake Vaughn.
He was a graduate of Henry Clay High School and Lafayette Vocational School. He served in the United States Navy and was retired from GE Kentucky Glass Plant after 35 years of employment. He was a Kentucky Colonel, an avid golfer and he and his wife were active square and round dancers for 25 years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: one son, James (Buzz) Vaughn and his fiancé Jennifer Susan Griffith; one sister, Martha Hamilton; and one brother, Russell Vaughn, all of Lexington; two aunts, Margaret Lowery, Harrodsburg, and Helen Sexton, Ft. Myers, FL.
He was preceded in death by infant sons John Andrew and Mark Alan Vaughn, and a brother, Robert Cecil.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland, with Pastor Dave Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Leonard Sutherland, Bob Grot, Don Hamilton, Jim Hamilton, Kenny Webster and Ryan Finch.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Sunday.
