LINDA SUE MILLER

Linda Sue Morris Miller, 50, of Hinesville, GA, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 at her home after a long illness.

Born in Richmond, she was the daughter of Lawrence T. and Lucille Morris of Harrodsburg. She lived in Okinawa, Japan for many years, moving to Hinesville in 1985. She was employed with the Civil Service as an administrative supervisor for over 25 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis, Maryland.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: her husband, Moreland T. Miller of Hinesville; a daughter, Sandra Anne Miller of Hinesville; a son, Jonathan Joseph Miller of Hinesville; four sisters, Sharon K. Chenault of Huntington, WV, Jennifer Schafer of St. Louis, MI, Vicky Tunstille of Jacksonville, FL, and Tammy Joe Watts of Lawrenceburg, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Wilkins officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30239-4251.

VIRGINA B. POTTER

Virginia B. Potter, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 25 in Orlando, FL.

She was born July 8, 1923 in Detroit, MI. She was the widow of Sol. J. Potter.

She was a Corning Glass employee and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include: a son, William H. Potter of Orlando, and two daughters, Cecelia Plummer of Hamilton Ohio and Karen Joy Potter of Winter Springs, FL.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 14 at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens in Lexington.

Milward Funeral Home, Southland Drive, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements.

BEULAH C. READNOWER

Beulah C. Readnower, 95, of 316 High Street, Danville, formerly of Larue St., Harrodsburg, died Thursday at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born September 5, 1904 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Boone and Cora Wilham Devine. She was the widow of Floyd Jennings Readnower.

She was a retired dietician for the Clays Mill and Lafayette Schools in Lexington, a member of the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, Lexington.

Survivors include: three sons, Don Graham, Danville; David Wayne Readnower, Cave city, and Daniel Boone Readnower, Mercer County; two daughters, Gladys Turner and Patricia Whalen, both of Louisville; one sister, Helen Kailen, Louisville and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Graham, and a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 1, 2000 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Bro. Fred Wilson officiated. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Daniel Lynn Readnower, Daniel Lynn Readnower II, Lee Readnower, Charles Short, Brandon Short, Justin Short and Rick Kailen.

WILLA MAE SQUIFFLET

Willa Mae Squifflet, 86, of Charleston Greene in Danville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000 at her home.

Born Jan. 30, 1913 in Owen County and raised in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late W. L. and Eva Brumback Shearer. She was a homemaker, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and a 1934 graduate of The University of Kentucky.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. H. T. Squifflet, three daughters, Jean S. Hurt of Murray, Jane S. Phillips of Versailles and Mary Ann Witt of Stanford; a brother, Walker L. Shearer of Preston, IN, a sister, Irene Colvin of Louisville and three granddaughters, Emily Phillips Gaunce of Carlisle, Catherine Hurt of Nashville and Alison Witt Calhoun of Lexington.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.. Friday at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. A. B. Colvin officiating.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Danville-Boyle County Rescue Squad.

Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY LEFLER

Dorothy Crawford Lefler, 88, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, January 7, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born May 12, 1911 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Frank and Mabel Emma Dockham Crawford.

She was a member of the Bohon Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Carter, Santa Monica, CA and Allen Carter Jr., of Florida; one brother Jack Crawford of Ormond Beach, FL; one sister, Marion Russo, Streamwood, IL. She was preceded in death by a son, David Carter.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 11, at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Stan Houser and Bro. Danny Sallee officiating. Burial was in Bohon Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charlie Baker, Derek Baker, Bill Baker, Trent Baker, Maurice Baker, Jimmy Keller, Bill Ransford, and Billy Sanford.

H. C. YEASTE

H. C. Yeaste, 70, of 734 Beaumont Avenue, died Wednesday January 5, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born October 7, 1929 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Edward Stanley and Gertrude Trower Yeaste.

He was a retired accountant for the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet, an auctioneer and former owner/operator of Shakertown Store and Service Station and S&Y Grocery.

He was a graduate of Campbellsville College in accounting, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, Faith, Hope & Love Sunday School class and deacon Chair from 1997-1998.

He was a Master Mason, Grand Lodge F&AM Franklin Lodge #28, Oleika Shrine Temple and 32nd degree Scottish Rite of Santa Fe, NM and Lexington, Chapter Dad for the Order of Demolay, Wilderness Trace Chapter.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, past Harrodsburg PTA president, member of the VFW, past member of the American Legion and Lions Club.

He served in the army during the Korean War.

Survivors include: his wife, Bettie Randolph Yeaste, Harrodsburg; one son, Ed Yeaste, Lawrenceburg; one daughter, Pam Jackson, Lebanon, OH; one brother, Kit C. Yeaste Bardstown; one sister, Elsie Gorden Orlando, FL; five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Robert DeFoor and Rick Snyder and Eddie Russell officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were Jim Fitzgerald, Jimmy Fitzgerald, Bill Huff, Bryan Keith Smith, Fred Butterfield, Patrick Branam. Honorary bearers were Sunday School class members and deacons of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Shiner's Children’s Hospital, Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

LORENE KAYS

Lorene H. Kays, 70, of 1291 Cinder Road, SE, Bergholz, OH, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, December 25, 1999 at her residence.

Born January 29, 1929 in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Bishop and Hester Casey Harlow.

She formerly attended Harrodsburg High School and attended Carrollton Baptist Temple.

Survivors include: her husband, James H. Kays, Bergholz, OH; one son, L. Kevin Kays, Carrollton; three daughters, Mrs. Ervin (Joan) Love, Somerset, Mrs. Doug (Lannie) Harmon, Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Mark (Janet) Bolster, Canton, OH; one brother, Russell B. Harlow, Okeechobee, FL; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, James Kays.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 29, in the Allmon-Dugger & Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton, OH with Pastor Moses Yoder officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Carroll County, 1040 Trump Road, Carrollton, OH 44615.

AVA BONTA

Ava Bonta, 85, of 1220 Foxwood Rd., Frankfort, died Saturday, January 8, 2000 at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born February 9, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Addie Leonard Patterson.

She was a retired Director of Studio Sales, South East US, for Olin Mills. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Charles W. Bonta III, Frankfort; one daughter, Pamela Magnus, Louisville; two grandchildren, Charles Bonta IV and Kyra Bonta, both of Louisville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 11, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Dr. Gary Straub officiating. Burial was in the Patterson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry Ferrell Bonta, Ira Crace, Roy Stivers, Curt Ehrmantraut, Paul Devine, Alford Russell and Kyle Bailey.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church Family Life Center.

DAVID DARNALL

David Edwin Darnall, 75, of 209 Sugar St., Salvisa, died Saturday, January 8, 2000 at his residence.

Born October 5, 1924 in Carlisle, he was the son of the late Paul and Leila Huntsberry Darnall.

He was a retired dispatcher for the Kentucky State Police in Frankfort.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, American Legion, VFW and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Bunton Darnall, Salvisa; two sons, Calvin L. (Rita) Darnall, and David T. (Phyllis) Darnall, both of Mercer County; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren; five step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 11, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brother Terry Morrison and Brother Jason Moats officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Salvisa with military rites.

Pallbearers were Steve Case, Ralph Hahn, Tommy Shuck, Larry Giles, Tony Tribble and Paul Snowdy. Honorary bearers were members of the Kentucky State Police.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvisa Christian Church.

JOHN COOPER

Dr. John Charles Cooper, 66, of Big Pine Key, FL, died Friday January 7, 2000 at his residence.

Born April 3, 1933 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Chauncey M. and Margaret A. Gerard Cooper.

He served as pastor of the Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church in Big Pine Key for the past three years, since moving from Harrodsburg. He was ordained 41 years ago and served in many Lutheran Churches.

He earned his BA at the University of South Carolina, attended the Lutheran Southern Seminary, then, at the University of Chicago he earned his Master of Divinity, His MA and later his PhD. There he was the student of and secretary to Paul Tillich, the German Theologian and Philosopher.

He was also a university professor of religion and philosophy. He taught at the Florida Keys Community College in both Key West and Marathon, FL, the University of Kentucky, Asbury College, Eastern Kentucky University, Selinsgrove College, Winebrenner Seminary, Newberry College, and Thiel College.

He was the author of over 40 books and several hundred articles on religion, social movements, philosophy and history. He has also authored a novel and several volumes of poetry. He was much involved in the Ecumenical movements between the Lutheran, Episcopal and Roman Catholic Churches.

Medically retired from the U. S. Marine Corps, he served in Korea during 1950-51 and was a proud member of the "Chosin Few" -- the survivors of the Chosin Reservoir.

Survivors include, his wife of 13 years, Victoria Davis Cooper, Big Pine Key, and the following children: Christopher Martin Cooper, Toledo, OH, Catherine Cooper Miller, Franklin, TN, Cynthia Cooper Appel, St. Louis, MO, Paul Conrad Cooper, Findlay, OH and Sean Christopher (Melissa) Quaint, Dearborn Heights, MI; one brother, Bruce Cooper, Naples, FL and brother-in-law Bob Summerville, SC, 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Cooper Bownan.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, January 9, 2000 at the Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church, in Big Pine Key, FL. Burial was in the Abbey of Gethsemane Cemetery at Trappist, on Wednesday, January 12.

Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven in charge of arrangements.
