Helen Roberts, 77, of Versailles, died Sunday September 11, 2005 in Lawrenceburg.
Born Feb. 22, 1928, in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Eaves Roberts.
Survivors include: two sisters, Mary King, Harrodsburg, and Corinne Duvall, Bowling Green; and two brothers, George Robert, Lawrenceburg, and Owen Roberts, Versailles.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, at Glen's Creek Baptist Church in Versailles by Rev. David Fee. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

JOSEPH KEEBORTZ
Joseph W. "Buddy" Keebortz, 82, husband of Marilyn Ernestine Reed Keebortz, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Ctr.
Born March 21, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Arthur Brown and Matilda Etta (Dennis) Keebortz.
He served in the Air Force. He was a retired factory employee and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and a former member of the Harrodsburg Lions Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: one sister, Shirley Keebortz, Harrodsburg; and one brother, Eulice W. (Geraldine) Keebortz, Lexington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, September 23, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Don Chase. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers will be Tim Ellis, Chad Ellis, Myron Ellis, Michael Keebortz, Douglas Keebortz, Timothy Keebortz, Carey Keebortz and Brad Abney.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday prior to the service.

WILLIAM BAKER
William Webb Baker, 31, Chimney Rock Road, Herrington Woods, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 9, 1974 in Lexington, he was the son of Mary Linda King of Pine Island, FL and the late Fred Rodger Baker Jr.
He served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves. He was a member of Southside Christian Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Kathryn Manning Baker of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rodger Baker Sr. of Lexington; two aunts, Barbara King English of Bowling Green and Sally King Luby of Charlotte, NC, and numerous other relatives.
The funeral was conducted Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Sam Stow officiating. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Willie Turpin, Clay Devine, Adam Brown, Michael Irvin, Ross Cairns, Justin Stocker, Erinn Thompson and Matthew Lopp.

EVELYN CAREY
Evelyn Darland Carey, 88, Mackville Road, Springfield, widow of John William “Dick” Carey, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at her home.
Born Feb. 27, 1917 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Amanda Ellen Moore Darland.
She was a homemaker, and she was a member of Mackville Church of Christ.
Survivors include: two sons, William Loyd “Pete” (Peggy) Carey and Jack Allen (Anna Helen) Carey, both of Springfield; one sister, Lorraine Pinkston of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Sutton and Rayma Boblitt; three brothers, Reatha Darland Sr., Shannon Darland and Marvin Darland.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Frank Preston, minister of the Mackville Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.
Pallbearers were Steve, Dennis and Andrew Carey, Daniel Carpenter, Joshua Russell and Tim Lawson.

Susie Faye Merriman, 65, Burgin, wife of Wilmer Lee “Buck” Merriman, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Jan. 20, 1940 in Marion County, she was a daughter of the late Hazel Lee Webb Tate.
She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass, Inc., and she was a member of the Shakertown Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Rita (Keith) Monson of Burgin; one son, Jimmy (Grace) Cloyd of Danville; two sisters, Esther Carey of Mercer County and Vergie (Larry) Richards of Harrodsburg; one brother, Jay (Karen) Tate of Leesburg, AL; one stepson, David Lee Merriman of Boston, MA; one stepdaughter, Teresa Nater of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Richardson.
The funeral was conducted Friday, Sept. 16 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in the Burgin Memorial Garden.

RAYMOND PHILLIPS JR.
Raymond Phillips Jr., 53, Lincoln Park, MI died Aug. 31, 2005.
Born July 23, 1952 in Jeffersonville, IN, he was the son of Raymond Phillips Sr. and Mildred Votaw Phillips, both formerly of Mercer County.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mildred (Shane) McReynolds and Christina Phillips, one son, Johnathan Phillips, and three sisters, Doris (Stanley) Low, Betty Phillips and Nancy (Ali) Farhoud, all of Taylor, MI; two granddaughters, and numerous other relatives, some of them in Mercer County.
The funeral was held on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Taylor. Burial was at the United Memorial Gardens, in Plymouth, MI.

JASON SMITH
Jason Leon Smith, 28, Irish Ridge Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 at the University of Kentucky Hospital as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born March 18, 1977 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Leon and Shirley Carol Stephens Smith.
He was a truck driver for the Triple S Transportation Company in Springfield, he cherished John Deere equipment, and he was a member of the Benton Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sisters, Sherri Lee Lancaster and Kimberly Darlene Smith, both of Harrodsburg; one brother-in-law, Loren Lancaster of Versailles; two nephews, William Lee Lancaster and Joshua Loren Lancaster, both of Harrodsburg; one niece, Cheryl Marie Lancaster West, also of Harrodsburg; a special companion, Tessa Price of Springfield, and numerous other relatives.
The funeral was conducted Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frankie Lane officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Adam Turner, Shannon Stephens, Chris Lawson, Jeremy Wilkerson, John Paul Bailey, Levi Maddox, Michael Jenkins and Adam Guthrie.
Honorary pallbearers were Garney Bugg and Fred Huffman.
EDITH YOUNG
Edith Davidson Young, 88, Salvisa, wife of Jesse Young, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005.
Born Nov. 14, 1916 in Perry County, she was the daughter of the late James Madison and Clara Gambil Davidson.
She was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Chavries Christian Church and attended the Salvisa Christian Church. She was involved in the Women’s Circle and Modern Woodmen.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Saundra Powell of Memphis, TN and Ann Dean of Harrodsburg; two sons, Jesse C. Young and Michael Young, both of Salvisa; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter; Jean Hatch.
The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Johnny Hockersmith and Danny Wiley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Trent, Lynn and Caleb Young, R. T. Dean IV and Dillon Dean, James Robert Hughes, T. T. Lyons, Daniel Powell and David Stratton.
Visitation today, Thursday, Sept. 22 after 5 p.m. and Friday prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
MATTIE CROWDUS
Mattie A. Crowdus, 87, Rushville, IN, widow of Evander William Crowdus, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005 at the Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville.
Born May 19, 1918 in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Lue Pittman Taylor.
She retired in 1982 from Philoco-Ford in Connersville, IN after 30 years. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she had been a member of the Church Stewards Board and had been church secretary and a member of the choir. Also, she was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Women’s Society and had been a team captain of the WUM Church Rally Day. She was a charter member of the Bathsheba OES Chapter #37 and was a past board member of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include: one sister, Lottie F. (Charles) Yates of Oceanside, CA; five nieces, including Diane Ford of Harrodsburg, and five nephews, including Craig and Gary Ford, also of Harrodsburg.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Laura B. Williams.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Rushville with Rev. Roy Stewart officiating. Burial was in the East Hill Shrine Mausoleum in Rushville.
Arrangements were handled by Moster and Cox Mortuary in Rushville.
VIRGINIA HURST
Virginia Mae Hurst, 70, Harrodsburg, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 at the Bluegrass Community Hospital in Versailles.
Born July 4, 1935 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Daisy Deana Beckham Egbert Sr.
She was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Ebenezer Church of Christ.
Survivors include: four daughters, Cindy Quinn, Barbara Siler and Donna Young, all of Harrodsburg, and Melissa Osbourne of Lawrenceburg; one son, Larry Siler, also of Harrodsburg; one brother, Elmer “Tuggle” Egbert of Mercer County; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Monday, Sept. 26 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John David Lane and George Blakeman officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Salvisa.

PAUL KIMBERLING
Paul Kimberling, 73, of Parksville, died Friday, September 23, 2005 at his residence.
Born July 13, 1931, in Lee County, VA, he was the son of the late Pete and Cora Davis Kimberling.
He was a carpet layer and a crew hauler for Norfolk Southern Railway.
Survivors include: his wife, Patty Kimberling; two daughters, Theresa Cox, Harrodsburg, and Montie Savage, Parksville; a son, Darrell Kimberling, Nicholasville; three brothers, Bill Kimberling, Louisville, Deverett Kimberling, Stanford, and Dennis Kimberling, Moreland; two sisters, Verda Goode, Junction City and Ellen Sue Watkins, TN; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 26, at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland, by the Rev. Dennis Hisle. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Darrell and Scott Kimberling, Joseph Savage, Anthony Horton, Aaron Abner and Patrick Williams.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
JAMES MARTIN
James Edward Martin, 87, Harrodsburg, widower of Virginia Jane Hardy Martin, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born July 1, 1918 in Chattanooga, TN, he was the son of the late James and Sadie Martin.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a horse trainer and ran his own stable.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Jane (Jeff) Bugg of Harrodsburg; one son, Neil Edward Martin of Finchville, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Donald “Alabama” Martin.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with David Culp officiating.
ETHEL MILLER
Ethel Leisure Miller, 82, wife of Ben E. Miller, died Wednesday September 21, 2005, at Lafayette Country Place after a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late Mary Lee and Frank Leisure.
Mrs. Miller was retired from the Fayette County Public Schools.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, she is survived by a son, Ben E. (Janet L.) Miller, Jr., Harrodsburg; and a daughter, Mary James (Robert E.) Carter, Lexington.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services will be private.

LINDELL PARR
Lindell Portee Parr, 82, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Southern Regional Hospital, Riverdale, GA.
Born January 20, 1923, in Lugoff, SC, she was the daughter of the late Melton and Lillie Smith Portee.
She graduated with honors from Mather Academy in Camden, SC, and continued her education at Knoxville College and North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, where she earned bachelor and master of science degrees in math and science. She later earned a second master of science degree in biology from University of Kentucky. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and Phi Beta Kappa teachers sorority.
She was the widow of George R. Parr Jr. and they were the first minority owners of a coin-operated laundry in High Point, N.C., in the early 1950s, Parr's Self-Service Laundromat. She taught math and science for more than 35 years, having taught grade levels kindergarten through college, in High Point, Harrodsburg, Danville, Lexington, Indianapolis, Ind., and Cincinnati, Ohio. She also was involved in numerous church, charitable and social organizations in Kentucky.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Parr Hughes of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Daisy Portee Withers of Silver Spring, MD, and Lillian Portee Diggs of Thomasville, NC; two great-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were held Tuesday, September 27, at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Robert J. Williams. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery, High Point.
TROY SELLARS
Troy E. Sellars, 36, Harrodsburg, died Thurs., Sept. 15, 2005.
Born Oct. 28, 1968 in Ohio, he was the son of the late Alvin E. Sellars and Della Mae Clayborn Lovett.
He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. Although disabled, he worked hard on the farm and at odd jobs.
Graveside services will be today, Thurs., Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. at the Cornishville Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
ISAAC SPARKS JR.
Isaac C. "Junior" Sparks, 75, Lexington, husband of Gladys Sparks, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005.
Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Isaac Sparks Sr. and Ruthie Smith Sparks.
He was a retired carpenter for Higgins KRI a member of the Baptist faith.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Roy L. Sparks, Lexington; a daughter, Donna Sue Powell, Harlan; a brother, Clifton (Joe) Sparks, Harrodsburg; grandchildren, Ashley and Jared Powell and Eric and Erin Sparks.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 28 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, by Brother John Jessup. Burial will follow in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Stevenson, Jim Stevenson, Eric Sparks, Danny Sparks, Jared Powell and Jim Roddy.
Visitation will be from 6 - 9 pm Tuesday, September 27 at the funeral home.
