Alberta Bugg, 82, of Perryville Road, Harrodsburg, widow of Alpha Eugene Bugg, Sr., died Monday October 10, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born October 24, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Ruby Williams Divine.
She was retired from Palm Beach and was a supervisor with the Boyle County schools having served in the cafeteria. She was a graduate of Fugazzi Business College, enjoyed reading, quilting, and the company of her pet poodle Peanut.
Survivors include: one son, Eugene Bugg, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Shirley (Charles) Daugherty and Brenda (J. W.) Sherrow, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, William Kyle (Jean) Devine, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Edna J. Bradley and Frances (Tommie) Hill, both of Mercer County; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Bugg, and a brother, Cleo Devine.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 12, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Ron Wood, Lindsay Campbell, and David Collier officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Troy Sherrow, Michael Sherrow, Steve Bugg, Jackie Hill, Timmy Devine, and Bobbie Estes. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Hill, Mark Bugg, Tommie Hill, Oscar J. Bailey, and Mark Henson.

REX ERVIN
Rex Ervin, 45, of Village Circle, Wilmore, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
Born January 11, 1960 in Lexington, he was the son of the late James “Jim” Ervin and Christine Frisby Kelly of Wilmore.
A member of Southland Christian Church, he enjoyed working out at Luce Fitness Center in Wilmore and was a UK Wildcat basketball fan.
Besides his mother, survivors include: his twin brother Randy Ervin, Wilmore; three sisters, Angie (Fred) Herald, Mercer County, Sue Dunn, Wilmore, and Sharon (Freddie) Boswell, Mercer County.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Dick and Minister Brewster McLeod officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Travis Boswell, Bryan Boswell, Nathan Lewis, James Abney, and Steve Jewell.

HARVEY KURTZ
Harvey Jeffries "Jeff" Kurtz, 89, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the VA Medical Center, Lexington.
Born February 17, 1916 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Clarence Roland and Nora Ethel Voorhies Kurtz Sr.
He served during World War II in the Army. He was a farmer and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.
Survivors include: a brother, Clarence Kurtz, Mercer County, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Alvin Voorhies Kurtz, and six sisters, Hazel Kurtz Sims, Jesse Katherine Sims, Margaret Frances Tumey, Evelyn Davis, Naomi Ray Kurtz and Mary Louise Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., today, Thursday, October 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Greg Humpert. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers will be Boone Logan, H. J. Sims, Clinton Sims, Tommy Camden, Terry Camden, Roy Beasley, Lonnie Jenkins and Jonathon Kurtz.
Visitation Wednesday, October 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. and, Thursday prior to service at the chapel.
JERRY KURTZ
Jerry O. Kurtz, 73, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at his residence.
Born June 18, 1932 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Henry Thomas and Cora Lee Carr Kurtz.
He served during the Korean War in the US Navy. He was a tool and die maker for Square D.
Survivors include: one daughter: Belinda Sue Kurtz, and her fiancée Gary Cooper, Harrodsburg; granddaughter, Melissa Phillips Kell, Burgin; grandson, Michael Phillips, Harrodsburg; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Kurtz and a sister, Anne Kirkland.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lloyd Phillips officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles Kurtz, Jerry Kurtz, Paul Kell, Michael Phillips, Fred Morris, and Steve Williams.

VIVIAN LYONS
Vivian Lyons, 90, Bondville Road, Salvisa, widow of John Lyons, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born June 20, 1925 in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Joeanna Strong Kerby.
She was a retired sales clerk.
Survivors include: one son, Greg Stephens, Merritt Island, FL; two sisters, Henrietta Powers, and Jean Morgan, both of Danville; and one brother, Dave Kerby, Danville.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

KHYLEE PENDYGRAFT
Khylee Tru Pendygraft, 339 E. Office St., Harrodsburg, died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.
Born October 8, 2005 in Danville, she was the daughter of Joshua William and Ashlee Danielle Anderson Pendygraft.
Other survivors include: maternal grandmother, Dewana Posey Anderson, Harrodsburg; maternal grandfather, Timothy Anderson of Pikeville; paternal grandfather, Bucky Pendygraft, Parksville; maternal great-grandmother, Shelby Posey, Harrodsburg; and two aunts.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 11, at Spring Hill Cemetery by Reverend Don Chase.

DOROTHY ROACH
Dorothy I. McIntyre “Dot” Roach, 98, died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg.
Born September 26, 1907 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late William Ainsworth and Anna Upton McIntyre. She was the widow of Charles Pierce Roach.
A graduate of Hood College (Frederick, MD) in 1929, she received her master’s degree from Penn State. As a college student she was Women’s National Collegiate Archery Champion.
She was director of publicity for Hood College for several years and later became director of physical education at Moorestown Friends School in NJ.
During WW II she served as director for the USO in Dublin, VA, Newton Falls, OH and Columbus, IN. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Presbyterian Church. She was an avid golfer and was honored to have an annual "Dot Roach Tournament".
For more than 25 years she was a kindergarten teacher, operating the Lad and Lassie Kindergarten. She also had been a member of the Harrodsburg Woman’s Club, the Harrodsburg School Board, the Governor’s Commission on poverty and a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include: one daughter, Anne (Tom) “Teena” Baker, Lexington; one son, Charles Pierce (Debbie) Roach, Jr., Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, Kevin T. Baker, Jeffrey S. Baker, Anne McIntyre Brigance, LeCarole McIntyre Roach, C. Phillip Roach, Rebecca P. Roach; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 14, at Spring Hill Cemetery by Dr. Joe Tarry.
Friends may call at the Charles Roach Home, 255 Mercer Ave, in Brightleaf Estates, following the service.

Jack Davis "J. D." Robinson, 81, of Burgin, husband of Verna Ellen Woods Robinson, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at his home in Burgin.
Born October 13, 1923 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Roy and Verna Currens Robinson.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Verna Ellen Woods Robinson; three daughters, Faye (Digger) O'Dell, Frankfort, Wanda (Vance) Pinkston, Harrodsburg, Vickie (Danny) Dunn, Georgetown; one son: Ronnie (Vicki) Robinson, Salvisa; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Adeline Keightley, Mercer County, Elberta Sea, Anderson County, Evelyn McGee, Jeffersontown; three brothers, Hubert Robinson, Lawrenceburg, L. H. Robinson and Randall Robinson, both of Mercer County; three stepdaughters, Donna Sexton, Harrodsburg, Denise (Joe) Monson, Burgin, and Kathy (Keith) Hensley, Burgin; two stepsons, Kenny Robinson, Harrodsburg, and Chuck Robinson, Danville; 10 step grandchildren ; five step great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother; Eugene Robinson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Thursday, October 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by James Harley. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Cathi Lynn Randolph Sparks, 55 of Rockwell, NC died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, NC.
Born January 12, 1950 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Waller & Corinne Carey Randolph.
She was educated in the California Schools and Business College in Millington, TN and had worked for the Mecklenburg County Health Dept. as a secretary.
Survivors include: one son; Nicholas Tyler Sparks, Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Laci Colleen Randolph, Raleigh, NC, and Kimberly “Fawn” Sparks Weber, Rockwell, NC; two brothers, Rusty Randolph, Gastonia, NC; and Kevin Randolph, Ray, Florida, three sisters, Robin Kjems, Harrodsburg, Kim Misenheimer, Mitchellville, IA and Colleen Jenkins, Rockwell, NC; two grandchildren; and a special friend, John Eaton, Rockwell, NC .
She was preceded in death by a sister, Carey Ellen Randolph.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 11, at Powles Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, NC conducted by Rev. Craig Sigmon, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, Rockwell, NC.
WANDA BENNETT
Wanda Faustine Bennett, 91, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born May 24, 1914 in Hillsboro, OH, she was the daughter of the late Clark Estes and Nora Irene Woodruff Pollard.
She was a retired sales clerk.
Survivors include: one daughter: Carol (Harry) Kimmey, Harrodsburg; and one brother, Robert Pollard, Washington Court House, OH;
Funeral services were held Monday, October 17, at Washington Cemetery, Washington Court House, OH, with Carlton Curie officiating.

JENNINGS BROOKING
Jennings Lee Brooking, 69, of Salvisa, died Saturday, October 15, 2005 at his home.
Born March 7, 1936, in Cincinnati, he was a son of the late Roy E. Tomlin and Grace E. Brooking.
He was a retired employee of Sylvania Co. in Versailles and served in the US Air Force. He was a past master of St. John's Masonic Lodge 125 F&AM, a member of Daviess Chapter 29 in Harrodsburg, Danville Council 3, Ryan Commandary 17 and Scottish Rite 32nd Degree. He also was a member of Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington, was past director of the Oleika Clown Unit and named Clown of the Year in 2002.
He held the super excellent master degree of the Bowling Green Council and was a member of the Society of Past Masters of Southern Kentucky, and past deputy grand master of district 20, Grand Lodge of Kentucky F&AM 2001-2002.
Survivors include: his wife, Diane Grassi Brooking; two sons, Christopher Brooking of Newfoundland and Stanley Brooking of NY; two daughters, Dawna Lee Brooking, CA, and April Brooking, FL; three stepchildren, Martin Murphy of FL, Michael and Kevin Murphy, both of Lexington; eight grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lois Rose Shackelford Drury, 95, formerly of Fox Creek Road, Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.
Born December 28, 1909 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William and Grace Cole Shackelford. She was the widow of Jo Everett Drury.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, William E. (Rita) Drury, Salem, NH, Larry E. (Donna) Drury, Lawrenceburg; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Hicks.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 19, at Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carroll Taylor, David Taylor, Kerry Taylor, Kenneth Goodlett, Mike Brown, Rusty Waldridge, and Derek Drury. Honorary bearers were Clyde Haynes, Ottis Drury, and Kenneth Shackelford.
DONALD FLOWERS
Donald Barry "Freckles" Flowers, 45, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 in Lexington.
He was born May 5, 1960 in Somerset, the son of Jean Perdue Flowers (Steve) Acton, Harrodsburg and the late Bill Flowers.
An employee of Coleman Smith Heating and Air Conditioning, he was excellent in woodworking, gardening and cooking. His true love however, was boating and fishing, whether on Lake Cumberland or on the deep seas. He loved animals and especially his dog Lake. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his special friend and partner in life, Diana L. Smith, Lexington; one brother, Bruce Flowers, Lexington; one stepsister, Nona Sharp, Clarksville, IN; Brent (Val) Treadway, Corey and Stephen Treadway.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1220 Old Frankfort Pike, Versailles. A memorial service will also take place at Cumberland Lake, Alligator Dock 1 in the spring. LAVERNE FOWLER
Laverne Fowler, 87, formerly of Bluegrass Avenue, Louisville, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born September 18, 1918 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Clifton and Myrtle Moore Fowler.
She was a retired factory worker, having worked at Kenners in Cincinnati.
Survivors include: three brothers: Garnett (Arvena) Fowler, Harold Fowler, and Earl Fowler, all of Harrodsburg.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, her twin Lavonne Fowler, and Delores Fowler.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, October 18, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Willisburg.

JOSEPH KINDER
Joseph “Buggs” Kinder, 75, husband of Wanda Logue “Pee Wee” Kinder, died, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington.
Born April 17, 1930 in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Thomas Eli and Maudie Rae Harley Kinder.
He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church, and he was a retired farmer. He enjoyed coon hunting.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one brother, Walter Kinder of Versailles; five sisters, Jewel Satterly of Louisville, Vera Conner of Junction City, Nellie Turner of Harrodsburg, Elizabeth Tatum of Missouri and Ann Doyle of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Ike Kinder, Roy Kinder, Dutch Kinder, Hollie Kinder, Thomas Kinder and James Kinder, and two sisters, Georgia Kinder and Catherine Smith.
The funeral was held Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Kenneth Elkins and Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Curtis, Larry, Donnie, Gary, Darrin and Kenny Sims, Troy Thompson, Brent Satterly, Tommy Logue and Vince and Walter H. Kinder.
LARUE MATHERLY
LaRue Matherly, 79, of Deep Creek Road, died Thursday October 13, 2005 at the Springfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 2, 1926, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Coleman and Lottie Elliott Matherly. He was the widower of Aline Isham Matherly.
He was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Robintech Plastic Co.
Survivors include: one son, Billy R. Matherly; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 17, at Carey and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Ronnie Click. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville.
Pallbearers were Ricky Staton, Barney Russell, Ricky Click, Billy Matherly, Keith Reed and Jimmy Coyle. Honorary bearers were Jackie Reed, Darlene Bowen, Jan Coulter, Vivian Click, Donald Carpenter, Retha Matherly and Eddie Pittman.
