James E. Olson, 93, a prominent Woodford County farmer and landowner, owner of Olson Bottled Gas Company for over 50 years, husband of Patty Cook Olson, died Saturday, October 8, 2005, at his home.
Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Everett and Hessie Carpenter Olson.
He was an active member of First Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three daughters, Joyce Olson Currens, Shirley Marie Olson Eustice, and Anne Olson Young, all of Versailles; two stepdaughters, Kelly Glass, Georgetown, and Carolyn T. Hopper, Versailles; two stepsons, Pete Cline, Harrodsburg, and Mike Cline, Versailles, a special niece, Peggy Drew Splavins, Tennessee; a granddaughter; five grandsons; 12 step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His first wife and mother of his children, Theodora Shotwell Olson; his only brother, Robert P. Olson; and a grandson, Matthew Young, are deceased.
Services were conducted Wednesday, October 12, at the First Christian Church by Rev. Marcus Lynn. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Calvin Currens, Stephen Douglas Currens, Terry Lee Eustice, Larry James Eustice, Mark Olson Young, Benjamin James Currens, and William Eustice. Honorary bearers were his lifelong friend, Howard Montague, and his caregivers, Nancy Cheek, Faye Flora, Kimberly Loving, Judy McMaken, and Shirley Shuck.
Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARSHAL THOMPSON
Marshall Thompson, 44, of Marshes Siding, died Tuesday October 11, 2005 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Born, May 31, 1961, he was the son of the late Joe and Mable Dick Thompson. He is the widower of Amanda Lancaster.
He worked for the Sanitation Department.
Survivors include: one son, Marshall R. Thompson, Harrosburg; one daughter, Crystal Bates, Harrodsburg; four sisters, Mary Yocum, Lancaster, Thelma Thompson, Danville, Patricia Stephens, Burnside, and Joanne Belcher, Harrodsburg; four brothers, Bob Thompson, Lancaster, Terry Thompson, Whitley City, David Thompson, Marshes Siding, Danny Thompson, Covington; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 15, at the McCreary County Funeral Home by the Rev. Tom Sellars. Burial was in Barren Fork Cemetery. McCreary County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
RUTH GRIDER
Ruth P. Grider, 91, of Lexington, formerly of Frankfort, wife of Raymond Grider, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Friendship Health Care Center in Lexington.
Born in Mercer County Sept. 9, 1914 she was the daughter of the late David and Mattie Kurtz Phillips.
She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Lexington and had worked at various tobacco companies in Lexington.
Besides her husband of 73 years, survivors include: two sons, Raymond Grider Jr., Jackson, MS, and Daniel Grider, Versailles; one sister, Lena Phillips Sims, Harrodsburg; three brothers, Stanley Phillips, Lawrenceburg, Carl Phillips, Lexington and Raymond Phillips, Detroit, MI; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mildred Grider Lewis, two sisters, Lela Phillips and Sarah Phillips Hall, three brothers, Dave, Albert and Alvin Phillips, a grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 15, at Clark Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Rev. James Harley and Maj. Raymond Grider Jr. officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Carl Phillips Jr., Todd Grider, Phillip Carpenter, Bobby Grider, Tony Lewis and Timmy Grider.

BOBBY COFFMAN
Robert Eugene "Bobby" Coffman, 50, of Lancaster, formerly of Perryville, died Wednesday October 19, 2005 at his home.
Born Aug. 16, 1955, in Salem, Ohio, he was a son of Maxine Coffman of Moreland and Louise Coffman of Lincoln County, and the late Obert Coffman.
He was a retired construction worker for Hayden Bridge Co.
Additional survivors include: three daughters, Robin L. Shafer, Brodhead, Christina A. Boyd, Harrodsburg, and Sherry M. Coffman, Perryville; one sister, Evelyn Moore, Mitchellsburg; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 22, at Parksville Cemetery by Rev. Larry Moore.
Pallbearers will be Shane Shafer, Dan Boyd, Larry, David and Derek Moore, and Larry Garrett.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilder Funeral Home.
BILLIE COYLE
Billie Harrison Coyle, 88, Louisville, husband of Emma "Beth" Walker Coyle, died Sunday, October 23, 2005, at Wesley Manor Nursing Center.
Born in Woodford County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lula Mae Coyle.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor for the US Postal Service, and an US Army veteran of WW II. He was a founder and lifetime member of Aldersgate Methodist Church.
He enjoyed attending various sports activities of his children and grandchildren and helping those in need and serving the Lord.
Survivors, other than his wife, include two sons, Kenneth Coyle, Louisville, and James (Jan) Coyle, Union, KY; a daughter, Barbara Coyle Cooper, Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Betty Devine, Harrodsburg, and Edith Lilly, Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Greg Cooper, Sunshine Coyle, Amy Coyle and Chris Coyle; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Cooper and Ansley Marie Cooper; ex-daughter-in-law, Sandy Coyle; and a special family friend, Willie Roberson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, at Aldersgate Methodist Church by Rev. Orin Simmerman and Rev. Ben Hahn. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Ella Marie Montgomery, infant daughter of Lee and Anne Masingale Montgomery of Athens, TN died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, TN.
In addition to her parents, survivors include: two sisters, Sara Michael Montgomery and Maggie Claire Montgomery; maternal grandparents, Waymon and Judy Masingale of Riceville, TN; paternal grandparents, Marty and Ketrina Montgomery of Harrodsburg, and great-grandmother, Christine Montgomery, also of Harrodsburg.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the chapel of the Jerry Smith Funeral Home in Athens with the elders of the Athens Church of Christ officiating.
A private interment service was held at McMinn Memory Gardens.

Robert Owens, 90, of Bushtown Road, Harrodsburg, died Friday, October 21, 2005 at Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.
Born Aug. 27, 1916, in St. Mary's County, MD, he was a son of the late Moses and Gertrude Wathan Owens.
He was a retired county employee, having worked in Prince George County, MD, and attended Neal's Creek Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, at Buffalo Springs Cemetery by the Rev. Donald Luttrell.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Buckner Owens; two sons, Robert Owens of St. Mary's, and Leslie Owens of Upper Marlboro, MD; a daughter, Ruth May Pyles of Prince George County; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Beagle Owens.

Tena Baker Oei, 73, wife of Dr. Djong-Gie Oei for 42 years, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital.
Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Abraham Baker and Frances Loraine Baker.
She was a 30-year member of First United Methodist Church in Dearborn, MI. and a Dearborn Community Arts Council member. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she was active in the Fidelis Sunday School Class, Seniors of Centenary and the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: three daughters, Mona Safley, Columbus, IN; Peggye Simpson, Westland, MI; Gia Oei (John) Boullie, North Andover, MA; one son, Andre Oei, Hickory, NC; nine grandchildren, Christopher Simpson, Lorraine Simpson, Amy Oei, Katherine Safley, Elizabeth Safley, Meghan Oei, Kenneth Oei, Isabella Boullie and J. Thomas Boullie. Surviving siblings are James Baker, Frances Taylor, Robert Baker and Kenneth Baker, all of Lexington.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Baker and Harry Baker.

Benjamin Franklin Ross Jr., 67, Stoner Ave., died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 in Harrodsburg.
Born Aug. 18, 1938 in Willisburg, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Cora Lee Beasley Ross.
He was an auto body repairman, and he was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include: four daughters, Jeanette (Art) Duncan of Lawrenceburg, Karen (Steve) Schuster and Charlotte (Darryl) Royalty, both of Harrodsburg, and Stacy (Billy) Snow of Burgin; three sons, Chris (Tracy) Ross of Danville and Marty (Dana) Ross and Benny Ross, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, Bobby Ross of Harrodsburg, and 15 grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Reverend James Harley and Reverend Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Salvisa.

Elizabeth Shewmaker, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.
Born April 11, 1930 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Lola Mae Watts Shewmaker.
She was a retired Florida Tile employee and a member of Battle Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Wayne (Joyce) Shewmaker of Harrodsburg and James Allen (Kathy) Lewis of Versailles; two daughters, Vicky Warner of Lawrenceburg and Laticia Blacketer of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Wanda Baker and Rhonda Baker, both of Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Lee and Gleda Hume.
The funeral will be Friday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Robert “Bob” Stamps Sr., 78, Harrodsburg, husband of Audrey Dowlen Stamps, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at his residence.
Born Jan. 6, 1927 in Somerset, he was the son of the late Ira W. and Bertie Owens Stamps.
He was a retired regional manager for Investors Heritage Insurance, and he was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Sue Karen Stamps of Harrodsburg; two sons, Ronald S. (Elizabeth) Stamps of Danville and Robert D. Stamps II of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

She was a retired office manager from Wal-Mart, and she was a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

James Orville Garnett, 75, former salesman with Wine' & Shultz and owner of Sportsman Liquor Store, died Monday, October 31, 2005.
Born in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Oby and Nora Duncan Garnett.
A graduate of the former Connersville High School in Harrison County, he was a sports enthusiast and an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his five children, Beverly (Jim) Raisor, Debra Garnett, both of Lexington, Teresa (Chuck) Newman, Versailles, James O. Garnett, Jr. and his fiancé Vicki Voisard, both of Harrodsburg and Robert D. Preston C. Hurlbert, 84, of Ben Ali Drive, Danville, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 4, 1921, in Bath, NY, he was the son of the late Jess and Marie Flasphler Hurlbert.
He was a retired employee of Corning Glass, a navy veteran of World War II and a Catholic.
Survivors include: his wife, Lou Walton Hurlbert; two daughters, Diane Dotson, Shelbyvillle and Linda Pulliam, Burgin; two sons, Mike Hurlbert, Colorado Springs, CO, and Brian Hurlbert, Boyle County; one sister, Shirley Bergstresser of Penyen, NY; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
