Eugene “Jack” Gammon Jr., 82, Harrodsburg, widower of Juanita Faye Drury Gammon, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 22, 1923 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Eugene and Willa Mae Royalty Gammon Sr..
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a retired carpenter for Burchfield and Thomas. He was a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church, a member of American Legion V.F.W. and of the Salvisa Masonic Lodge 125 F & AM.
Survivors include: one daughter, Pam Votaw of Lawrenceburg; one son, Lynn (Carolyn) Gammon of Harrodsburg; one sister, Patsy Baylor of Lima, OH; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Oct 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Allen officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris and Michael Gammon, James Michael Yates, Derek and Patrick Votaw and Douglas Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Otis, Bruce Goodlett, Jennings Brooking and Ronnie Britton.
Masonic Rites were held Monday, Oct. 3 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
ANN GASKIN
Ann Engle Gaskin, 79, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Lancaster Christian Care Center.
Born Dec. 17, 1925, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Chester K. and Minerva Cox Engle. She was a homemaker and a member of Lancaster Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Delmar Gaskin, formerly of Burgin; two sons, Cary Gaskin, Nancy, and Chris Gaskin, Stanford; two daughters, Candice Ann Richardson, West Palm Beach, FL, and Claire Gaskin, Lancaster; three sisters, Frances Brooking, Lexington, Ruth Rogers, Lancaster and Billie Jean Wilson, Monroe, MI; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, at Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, by Rev. Owen Gaskin and Rev. Zach Terry.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Adams, Walter Hester, Chris and Bryan Gaskin, Clint McQuerry and Jim Cox.
Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Schauberger, James Callahan, Nolen Prewitt, J. Lee Rogers, Dick Wilson and Tommy Gaskin.
Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Friday.
CARROLL GRISWOLD
Carroll C. Griswold, 69, Mercer County, widow of Ralph S. Griswold, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Survivors include: one daughter, Margaret Jean Johnson of Mercer County; two sons, Robert Gibbs of Henderson and Tom Gibbs of Venezuela, and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.
CAROLYN HARMON
Carolyn Jane Harmon, 75, Harrodsburg, widow of Walter C. Harmon, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born April 24, 1930 in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Eunice and Maudolene Wilson Black.
She was a retired Corning Glass employee, and she was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sisters, Wanda Gaddis Stumph of Tennessee and Loraine Springate of Harrodsburg; one brother, Burnice Black of Winchester; five grandchildren, and nine great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Kenny Harmon, and one daughter, Judy Patterson.
The funeral was held Sunday, Oct. 2 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. Larry Reed and Bro. David Collier officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Tyler, Jeff Kettles, Luis Serrano, Brent Harmon, Rolando Patterson and Ferris Camron.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Patterson, Cornell Powell, “Frog” Baker, Damon Kelly, David Cheak, Walter Hazeltine, Shane Powell, Billy Ray Semones, Kenneth Long and Mark Francis.
LINDA HAZLETT
Linda Sue Hazlett, 56, of Spareminute Avenue, Danville, died Sunday, October 2, 2005.
Born May 21, 1929, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Dolores Cornett Hazlett of Danville and the late Charles Hazlett.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Huffman of Harrodsburg; a niece and a nephew.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bellevue Cemetery by Gary Story.
No visitation is planned. Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice.
Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
RACHEL HAZELIP
Rachel Georgiana McFarland Hazelip, 65, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005 in Bowling Green.
Born Sept. 28, 1939, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Nettie Hale McFarland. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, John Hazelip; a sister, Betty Boone of Stanton; a brother, Carl McFarland of Stanford; two stepsons, John Hazelip Jr. of Harrodsburg and Todd Hazelip of Louisville; a step daughter, Terry Saunders of Louisville; 11 step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, October 1, at Kirby and Son Funeral Home by Brandon Cox. Burial was in Bowling Green Gardens.
LAWRENCE MARTIN
Lawrence “Strut” Martin, 92, Salvisa, widower of Catherine Savannah Popp Martin, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born Feb. 21, 1913 in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late John K. and Sarah Bell King Martin.
He was a retired machinist for International Harvister in Indianapolis, IN. He was a farmer and woodworker, he was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church, and he was a former member of the Salvisa Ruritans and member of the UAW.
Survivors include: one daughter, Carole Wendell of Greenwood, IN; one granddaughter, Kelly (Chuck) Hinkle, and one grandson, Chris (Melissa) Cohee, both of Salvisa, and one great-granddaughter, Laura Cohee.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Jerel Coffey, Ray Coats and Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in the Kirkwood Cemetery in Salvisa.
Pallbearers were Barry Carmickle, Chad Hinkle, Don Freeman, Guy Driscoll, Steven Goodlett and Travis Gray.
Honorary pallbearers were Carole Wendell, Chuck and Melissa Hinkle and Chris, Melissa and Laura Cohee.

ARTHUR NICHOLSON
Arthur F. Nicholson, 85, husband of Edna Ann Waldmann Nicholson, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born in Pekin, IN he was a son of the late Monker and Phoebe Metzker Nicholson.
He was a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force, serving during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He received his B.S. degree from Wichita State University and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and had worked toward his Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, John P. (Mary) Nicholson of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Karen (Kenneth) Monnett of Las Vegas, NV; four brothers; five sisters; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be today, Thursday, Oct. 6 at 12:30 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington, with Dr. William R. Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

HOWARD ROE
Howard Gene Roe, 68, widower of Jean Rogers Hurst, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester.
Born Jan. 22, 1937 in Bourbon County, he was the son of the late Ray and Mary Hornback Roe.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Christian church, a member of the Constitution Square Dancers, a member of the American Legion, VFW and Oddfellows Lodge, and he enjoyed trading, buying and selling guns.
Survivors include: one son, John David Roe of Winchester; one daughter, Rosemary Roe of Louisville; one stepdaughter, Regina Hurst Wagoner of Georgetown; one sister, Ann Taulbee of Winchester; five grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
The funeral will be Friday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Huey Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in Paris.
Pallbearers will be Donald Means, Billy Brinegar, Roger Wagoner and Patrick Clay.
Visitation Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. and Friday after 7 a.m. at the funeral home.
WILLIAM STINNETT
William T. Stinnett, 61, Burgin, husband of Barbara Morgan Stinnett, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, in Anderson County.
Born March 10, 1943 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Corbin and Mattie Mae Stinnett.
He was employed by High Bridge Spring Water. He was a member of the New Life Ministries Church, and he enjoyed fishing, gardening and working on lawn mowers.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Richard (Lisa) Stinnett of Burgin; three daughters, Lois (Tilton) Bradshaw of Harrodsburg, Kristi Smith of Stanford and Peggy (Robert) Johnson of Burgin; four brothers, Larry (Donna) Stinnett and David (Verna) Stinnett, both of Harrodsburg, James (Nettie) Stinnett of Burgin and Robert Stinnett of Tennessee; two sisters, Rebecca (Anthony) Smith of Harrodsburg and Francis (Earl) Majors of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Myers officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steven, Rusty and David Wayne Stinnett, Jerry Morgan, Chris Smith and Kyle Kelley.
Honorary pallbearers were Josh, Joseph and Mike Morgan and Anthony Lisle.
EDYTHE TROOP
Edythe Roberts Troop, 87, of Danville, formerly of Madisonville, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 5, 1916, in Nortonville, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Ezma L. Martin Roberts. She was a homemaker and the widow of James E. Troop.
She was a member of Madisonville United Methodist Church where she was a preschool Sunday school teacher for many years. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Ruby Lumber Co. and saleswoman at Naomi's Vogue Dress Shop.
Survivors include: one daughter, Janice Campbell, Burgin; one brother, Basil Roberts, Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Private family services will be held at Stith Funeral Home by Revs. Tim Mathis and Jerry Lester.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. CST Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Madisonville.
Pallbearers will be Jim, Clay, Andrew and Seth Campbell, Craig and Logan Smith, Steve Sterchi and Ben Conner. Honorary pallbearers will be Beth Bugg, Tiffaney Elliott, Lauren Smith, Emily and Hannah Conner, Alyssa Sterchi and Chezni Campbell.

GLENDON WHITENACK
Glendon Whitenack, 88, 2700 Mackville Rd., died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1917 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late John Hughes and Grace Chilton Whitenack.
She was a retired elementary school teacher and food service coordinator for the Mercer County school system. She was a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary and choir member, and she was also a member of the Mercer County Retired Teacher’s Association.
Survivors include: three sisters, Martha Sue Mayes and Anne Sims, both of Harrodsburg, and Wyona Chew of Granite Bay, CA; two brothers, J. H. Whitenack Jr. and Everett Whitenack, both of Harrodsburg, and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Whitenack, and one sister, Carolyn Irene Whitenack.
Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 3 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Greg Humpert officiating.
Pallbearers were Allen, Alex and David Whitenack, Dennis Mayes, Brent Steele, Bryan Driskell and Dale Yates.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Faith Sunday School class.

GARY BAGWELL
Gary Eugene Bagwell, 60, of 1007 Riverside Drive, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born January 25, 1945 in Harriman, TN, he was the son of the late Luther Alexander and Dora Jane Futrell Bagwell.
He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a gospel preacher and member of The Harrodsburg Church of Christ.
He previously served as preacher at the following churches: West Main Street Church of Christ, Newark, OH, Lakeview Church of Christ, Rossville, GA, Lafayette Church of Christ, Indianapolis, IN, Salem Church of Christ, Salem, OH., Kenwood Church of Christ, Louisville, and the Beaver Dam Church of Christ, Beaver Dam.
Survivors include: his wife, Phyllis Ann Smith Bagwell; and one daughter Melissa Anne Bagwell, both of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 12, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Weldon Warnock and Ryan Knight. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

ALBERTA BUGG
Alberta Bugg, 82, of Perryville Road, Harrodsburg, widow of Alpha Eugene Bugg, Sr., died Monday October 10, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born October 24, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Ruby Williams Divine.
She was retired from Palm Beach and was a supervisor with the Boyle County schools having served in the cafeteria. She was a graduate of Fugazzi Business College, enjoyed reading, quilting, and the company of her pet poodle Peanut.
Survivors include: one son, Eugene Bugg, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Shirley (Charles) Daugherty and Brenda (J. W.) Sherrow, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, William Kyle (Jean) Devine, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Edna J. Bradley and Frances (Tommie) Hill, both of Mercer County; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Bugg, and a brother, Cleo Devine.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 12, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Ron Wood, Lindsay Campbell, and David Collier officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

REX ERVIN
Rex Ervin, 45, of Village Circle, Wilmore, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
Born January 11, 1960 in Lexington, he was the son of the late James “Jim” Ervin and Christine Frisby Kelly of Wilmore.
A member of Southland Christian Church, he enjoyed working out at Luce Fitness Center in Wilmore and was a UK Wildcat basketball fan.
Besides his mother, survivors include: his twin brother Randy Ervin, Wilmore; three sisters, Angie (Fred) Herald, Mercer County, Sue Dunn, Wilmore, and Sharon (Freddie) Boswell, Mercer County.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Dick and Minister Brewster McLeod officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Travis Boswell, Bryan Boswell, Nathan Lewis, James Abney, and Steve Jewell.

HARVEY KURTZ
Harvey Jeffries "Jeff" Kurtz, 89, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the VA Medical Center, Lexington.
Born February 17, 1916 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Clarence Roland and Nora Ethel Voorhies Kurtz Sr.
He served during World War II in the Army. He was a farmer and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.
Survivors include: a brother, Clarence Kurtz, Mercer County, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Alvin Voorhies Kurtz, and six sisters, Hazel Kurtz Sims, Jesse Katherine Sims, Margaret Frances Tumey, Evelyn Davis, Naomi Ray Kurtz and Mary Louise Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., today, Thursday, October 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Greg Humpert. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers will be Boone Logan, H. J. Sims, Clinton Sims, Tommy Camden, Terry Camden, Roy Beasley, Lonnie Jenkins and Jonathon Kurtz.
Visitation Wednesday, October 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. and, Thursday prior to service at the chapel.

JERRY KURTZ
Jerry O. Kurtz, 73, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at his residence.
Born June 18, 1932 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Henry Thomas and Cora Lee Carr Kurtz.
He served during the Korean War in the US Navy. He was a tool and die maker for Square D.
Survivors include: one daughter: Belinda Sue Kurtz, and her fiancée Gary Cooper, Harrodsburg; granddaughter, Melissa Phillips Kell, Burgin; grandson, Michael Phillips, Harrodsburg; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Kurtz and a sister, Anne Kirkland.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lloyd Phillips officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles Kurtz, Jerry Kurtz, Paul Kell, Michael Phillips, Fred Morris, and Steve Williams.
