Donna G. Singleton, 49, New Castle, wife of Tommy Singleton, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at her residence. Born Dec. 30, 1955 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of Bernice Rice and the late Donald Rice.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one brother, Eric Rice of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Cheryl Wolf of Deerfield Beach, FL, and grandmother, Viola Rose of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Prewitt Funeral Home in New Castle with Lin Powell officiating. Burial was in New Castle Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Willard Hamm, Dennis Moore, Jeff and A. J. Powell, Baird Foree and Larry Singleton.

FAMA SMITH
Fama Taylor Smith, 82, Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 20, 1923 in Owsley County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Myrtle Thelma Head Taylor.

She was an accountant and was retired from Kerbaugh and Rodes.

Survivors include: two sisters, Greta Florio of Harrodsburg and Janice (Owen) Collins of Butler; one niece, Sharon F. Burgess of Harrodsburg, and two nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Owen Collins officiating.

SALLIE BENGE

Sallie Marie Raines Benge, 95, Versailles, widow of Henry Clayton Benge, died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at her residence.

Born March 22, 1910 in Stewartsville, MO, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Hughes Raines.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: two daughters, Margaret Jones, Versailles, and Doris Brooks, Nicholasville; one son, Kenneth Benge, Mercer County; one sister, Evelyn Stone, Bryantsville; 23 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Faye Sandifer, and son, Willard Clarence Benge.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, with Rev. Glenn Gasser officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

LILLIAN CARRIER

Lillian Joyce Carrier, 73, South College Street, Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at her home.

Born Nov. 28, 1931 in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Leo and Edith Mae (Brady) Robertson and was the widow of Garnett Carrier.

She was a retired employee of Genesco and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Diane (Ronnie) Thornton of Harrodsburg and Jeanette Carrier of Frankfort; one son, Steven Dewayne Carrier of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Lillie Mae Adkins of Colquitt, GA and Frances Louise Young of Harrodsburg and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill, Tommy, Chad, and Brad Young, John, John Brady, and Zach Mink, and Brian Steele.

Memorials are suggested to the Mercer Relay for Life or Heritage Hospice.

KRISTIAN CONDER

Kristian Desiree Conder, infant daughter of Jeremy James and Ashley Maddox Conder of Lancaster, died Friday, November 4, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Additional survivors include: one brother, Austin Conder, Lancaster; grandparents, Kathy and Allen Maddox, Moreland, Barbara and Carey Ellis, Lancaster, and Bobby Conder, Salvisa; great-grandparents, Pauline Phillips, Junction City, Hurshel and Doris Maddox, Butchertown, Betty Reardon, Moreland, and Howard and Mary Conder, Casey County.

Graveside services were held Sunday, November 4, at Vaught Cemetery in Butchertown by Rev. Tony Stephens.

Pallbearers were Travis Conder and Matthew Maddox.

Stith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ROSE CRANE
Rose Marie Crane, 83, formerly of Mercer County, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 in Oliver, British Columbia, Canada.

Born Aug. 13, 1922 in Evansville, IN, she was the widow of James Crane.

Survivors include eight sons: Robert Crane of Lawrenceburg, Steve Crane of Harrodsburg, David Crane and Patrick Crane, both of Kelowna, B.C., Jerry Crane, Bill Crane and Paul Crane, all of Armstrong, B.C. and John Crane of Lavington, B.C.; two daughters: Mary Anne Laluk of Osoyoos, B.C. and Kathleen Cheng of Vancouver, B.C.

Funeral Services were held on Oct. 31, 2005 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Osoyoos, B.C. Burial was in Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.

ANNA CURTSINGER

Anna Margaret Birdwhistell Curtsinger, 75, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at the Heritage Hall Care Center.

Born June 11, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Mayme Pearl Hawkins Birdwhistell.

She was a former employee with Texas Instruments in Versailles, a senior companion with Anderson County Senior Citizens and attended Lawrenceburg First Baptist and Family Worship Center.

Survivors include: one daughter, Vickie Lynn (Paul) Mitchell, Lawrenceburg; one son, Lonnie Wayne Curtsinger, Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Amy Curtsinger Jones, Melissa Curtsinger, and Christopher Curtsinger, all of FL, and Ashley Mitchell, Lawrenceburg; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Garvice (Nancy) Birdwhistell, Lawrenceburg.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Curtsinger, and two brothers, Alvin and Bob Birdwhistell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm., Friday, November 4, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Andrade officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Spring Cemetery.

CLEO DEVINE
Cleo Devine, 90, of Springfield, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care in Harrodsburg.

A native of Washington County, he was born Oct. 14, 1915 to the late Lemmie E. and Nancy Blacketer Devine. He was the widower of Beulah Dean Devine.

He was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church and was a former employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and the Washington County Road Department.

Survivors include: a daughter, Doris Lay of Willisburg; two sons, Jimmy Devine of Harrodsburg and Gary Devine of Springfield; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ansel Devine.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at the Carey and Son Funeral home with Bro. Raymond Castillo officiating. He was assisted by Rev. J. W. Hatfield. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetary in Willisburg.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Devine, Michael Devine, Jamie Baker, Tony Lay, Daniel Lay and Keith Matherly. Honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Devine, R.C. Devine, Charles Devine, Amanda Devine and Amber Devine.

JANET DUNCUM
Janet Lynn Bowling Duncum, 40, of London, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born June 12, 1965 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Roy and Mary Jo Walters Bowling and the wife of Greg Duncum.

She was a teacher at South Laurel Middle School.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, Jon Zachary Duncum and Joshua Cody Duncum; two sisters, Debbie (Joe) Carr and Carrie (Chris) McCowan; four nieces and one nephew, all of London. Also surviving is a grandmother, Beatrice Dennis Walters; an aunt, Emily Lou (Larry) Bugg, and a cousin, Beth (Phillip) Lozier, all of Burgin; and an uncle, Jimmy (Carolyn) Walters of Richmond, VA.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 7, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in London. Rev. Terry Lester and Rev. Brian Vaughn officiated. Burial was in Benge Cemetery in London.

Pallbearers were Steve Duncum, Norm Bowling, Mike Bowling, Joe Karr, Chris McCowan and Larry Bugg.

Memorials may be made to the Zach and Cody Duncum Scholarship Trust, c/o Cumberland Valley National Bank, London, KY 40741, or to the American Heart Association.

AUBREY ETHERINGTON
Aubrey Etherington, 69, of Springfield, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at his residence.

A native of Anderson County, he was born on Jan. 21, 1936 to the late Willard and Grace Camic Etherington.

He was a member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg and a 1954 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School. He attended Berea College and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He was a retired salesman for Madison Chemical Company.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Harmon Etherington; a daughter, Renee (Dan) Epps of Rocky Face, GA; a step-daughter, Michelle Clevenger of Springfield; a step-son, Jerry Bottom of Springfield; a grandchild; two step-grandchildren, and two sisters, Hettie (Ezra) Simpson of Salvisa and Bonnie Perry of Lawrenceburg.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Etherington.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Bland Mason of the Springfield Baptist Church officiating.

Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 at Winchester Cemetary with Rev. Paul Sisk of the Anchor Baptist Church of Lexington officiating.

Pallbearers were Terry Willis, Bruce Richman, Freddie O’Daniel, Dewayne Hall, Larry Etherington and Jim Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Harmon, Don Harmon, Mitchell Reynolds, C. H. Haydon, Ezra Simpson and Bob Goodlett.

SAMUEL GASH
Reverend Samuel Clelland Gash, 73, of Memphis, TN, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, at his home.

He was a former pastor of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Born in Mercer County on Sept. 5, 1932, he was a son of the late Rev. Ernest M. Gash and Verna Whitehouse Gash, and he was the husband of Jayne Hagerman Gash.

He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School, Georgetown College and Southern Seminary.

He pastored churches in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Pennsylvania, and he served as associate pastor at Belleview Baptist Church in Memphis.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as chaplain to the green berets stationed in Pleiku, and he was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was director of the military’s Oasis Christian Center in Millington, TN, for several years, and after his retirement, conducted numerous revivals and served as interim and supply pastor throughout the Memphis area.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Gayle Sheldon and Janet Gash, both of Memphis; Miriam Gash Dobbs of Boise, ID; one son, Samuel Gash Jr. of Dickson, TN; one brother, Robert Gash of Little Rock, AR, and three grandsons.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 3, 2005 at the Memphis Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military rites were conducted Nov. 4 at Western Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.

MARGARET GREEN

Margaret Gordon Green, 77, widow of William Baker Green Sr., died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at Samaritan Hospital, Lexington.

A native of Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late James and Maggie Gordon, and was a member of Maddoxtown Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Brenetta (Mike) Osumenya, Carolyn Green, both of Lexington, Shirley (Thomas) Jones, Harrodsburg; four sons, Walter (Virginia) Gordon, Jerome Gordon, William "Sam" (Sherry) Green Jr., all of Lexington, and Charles (Roberta) Davis, Georgetown; two sisters, Mary Greer, Louisville , and Alice (Lee) Williams, Lexington; one brother, Frank Gordon Sr., Lexington; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Davis, Lexington; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; special niece, Phyllis Green, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Maddoxtown Baptist Church, with Rev. John Travis officiating. Burial will be in Maddoxtown Cemetery.

RICHARD OSTER
Richard “Dick” Joseph Oster, 72, died Nov. 3, 2005 in Kauai, HI.

Born on Nov. 26, 1933 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward (Ostwaski) Oster and Louise Skoda, and the husband of Janice McMullin Oster of Danville.

He graduated from Cleveland East Technical High School and was a 3rd degree Knight in Cleveland. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He loved to bowl, golf and work on cars.

A former employee of Modine Manufacturing in Harrodsburg, he retired after 45 years as product engineer. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, working as Machine Mate E-4 from 1955-1962.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Jeff (Anna) Oster and James Oster, both of Danville; two daughters, Sharon Oster of Danville and Linda (Mark) Sharp of Cincinnati, OH; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville Friday, Nov. 11 from 3-7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

SUSAN SANDERS
Susan Grace Bryant Sanders, 95, of Salvisa, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at her residence.

Born July 31, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late A. D. and Addie Robinson Bryant and the widow of Jess A. Sanders.

She was a homemaker and an antique dealer for over forty years. She was a member of the Mayo Christian Church, she enjoyed working in flowers.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Lane Sanders Shelton of Lexington, three grandchildren: Sharon (John) Burgin of Raleigh, N.C., Joey (Ashlee) Shelton of Brewster, MA and Sonja (Allen) Ostendorff of Raleigh, N.C., and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother O. E. Bryant, and two sisters, Thelma Carr and Beulah Mautz.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. John Hockersmith officiating and John Wesley Hockersmith sharing the Eulogy. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Burgin, Joey Shelton, Allen Ostendorff, David Freeman, Chad Beasley, and John Wesley Hockersmith. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Bowen, Linwood Chilton, Charles Gorham, and William Robinson.

VIRGINIA WEBB

Virginia Roney Webb, 84, of Rolling Hills, Perryville, died Sunday, November 6, 2005 in Lexington.

Born Nov. 2, 1921, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Mary Brown Foster Roney. She was the widow of Lloyd “Dude” Webb.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one niece, Norma Garland of Perryville; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wilder Funeral Home by Rev. Buddy Turpin. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Washington County.

Pallbearers will be Donald, Zack and Jeffery Garland, Derek Olson, Adam Farmer and Randy Hawkins.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday.

PATSY BAXTER

Patsy Joan Baxter, 66, of Perryville Road, Danville, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born September 17, 1939, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Lillian Grant Epperson Dismuke.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Collis D. "Tucker" Baxter; two daughters, Kimberly A. Grubbs, Garrard County, and Sherry L. Carter, Mercer County; two sons, Audie Baxter, Danville, and Clayton L. Baxter, Mercer County; one sister, Sara Warner, Danville; two brothers, Jerry Dismuke, Danville, and Charles Dismuke, Junction City, KS; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery by Rev. Dale Denton.

Pallbearers will be Dick Baxter, Garry, Jason, Darrell and Billy Sanford, Jerry Dismuke Jr., Brian Peyton and Carlos Caldwell. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Finley Hendrickson, Dr. Tariq Muhammad, Dr. Brian Ellis and staff of Charleston Health Care Center.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville.

ROSIE CALAHAN

Rosie Campbell Calahan, 92, Warbler Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born August 12, 1913 in Clay County, she was daughter of the late James and Martha Bishop Campbell. She was the widow of Sam Calahan

She was a homemaker; and the oldest member of Grapevine Christian Church in Mercer County.

Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Jean (Glenn) Sanford, and Freda (Richard) Blanton, both of Louisville; one son, Stanley Calahan, Lawrenceburg; a sister-in-law, Oda Lunsford, London; and a special niece, Jean Sawyers, Manchester.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Richard Calahan, four sisters, and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Bro. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial will be in Grapevine Cemetery in Mercer County.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
