CRYSTAL DARTT
Crystal Jean Dartt, 80, of Beaumont Avenue, Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ruth Rowland Longwell, and was the wife of Richard F. Dartt.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and was member of the choir and WMU. She was a former Brownie Scout Leader and was active in local artist groups.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Dr. Richard M. Dartt of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Debbie Holiday of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Robert Defoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charlie Isham, Ty and Charlie Holiday, Myron and Richard L. Dartt, Jeff Richeson and Gavin Holiday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ROC (Recreation and Outreach Center) at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

DR. DAVID DOLEN
David Carson Dolen M.D., 56, of McCouns Ferry Road, Salvisa, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Aug. 30, 1950 in Monticello, he was the son of Marie Camic Ellis of Harrodsburg and the late Carson W. Dolen.

He attended the University of Copenhagen, graduated from Vanderbilt University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He served on many boards and institutions including his own private practice, the Jefferson Hospital and Our Lady of Peace, where he was executive vice president and medical director.

He served on the Kentucky Attorney General's Task Force on Child Sexual Abuse and was a participant in a special National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems network on healthcare reforms. He did a prospective study of "Suicidal Behavior in Children and Youth," and his work was published in several medical publications. He taught psychiatry at the University of Louisville and was the recipient of the National Council of Teachers of English Award, the Spafford S. Ackerly Award, the Sandoz Award for psychiatry, and was nominated for the Laughlin Fellowship in Psychiatry.

He was active in the Harrodsburg Historical Society and the James Harrod Trust. He was a member of the Fort Harrod Drama Board and a former member of the Harrodsburg First Board.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one brother, LeMayne Ellis of Harrodsburg, and companion, Klaus Olsen of Salvisa.

Services will be held Friday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Bill Adams officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Dan Tucker, Lynn Bowden, Andy Almy, Ted Dean, Jack Bosley, Hal Harned, Wharton McDaniel and Pat Deese.

Visitation will be at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel Thursday after 5 p.m. and Friday from 7:30-11 a.m., and at the church Friday from noon until the hour of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422, or to the James Harrod Trust.

RICHARD FISHER
Richard Hampton Fisher, 86, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006 at the Hospice Care Center of St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Oct. 10, 1919 in Stanford, he was the son of the late Sam B. and Jessie Lee Fisher, and was the husband of Eva Peavler Fisher.

He attended Stanford High School and the University of Kentucky, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Since 1947, he owned and operated Fisher Display Service, Inc. He was also an ardent genealogist and amateur historian. Many of his research materials reside in the Kentucky History Center Library and Special Collections in Frankfort. He was a member of the Lafayette Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Kentucky Historical Society and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Richard H. (Eileen) Fisher II of Frankfort and Randy B. (Janice Kline) Fisher of Lexington; two daughters, Robyn F. (Louis G. III) Bourgois of Lexington and Lisa E. Fisher of Salem, IN; one sister, Margaret Fisher Boggs of Hagerstown, IN; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Thursday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Simpson officiating.

Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLENE HURT
Charlene Hurt, 59, of Azalea Street, Harrodsburg, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006 at her home.

Born Nov. 23, 1946 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Bernell Freeman Gammon of Harrodsburg and the late Osburne Mattingly.

She was a former Food Mart manager in Eminence and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, survivors include: special friend, Michelle Mullins, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Ann Ross, and one brother, James Osburne Mattingly.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Robert Defoor and Lewis Walter officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dennis, Ronnie, Donnie, Shawn and Shane Sallee and David Tyler.

Visitation at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday after 7:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Humane Society, 896 Moberly Rd., Harrodsburg, KY 40330, or to the American Heart Association.

LOUIS KING
Louis Elmer King, 76, of Burgin, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006 at his home.

Born Sept. 9, 1929 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Homer and Mary Bell Harlow King, and was the husband of Janet Austin King.

He was retired from the maintenance department at Corning Glass Inc. He attended the Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Carol McAskill of Lexington, Vicki King of Burgin and Kimberly Woford of Princeton; one son, Bradley King of Burgin; three sisters, Mae Arnett and Ruby Kent, both of Louisville, and Helen Claunch of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the Burgin Memorial Gardens with Bob Williams officiating.

Pallbearers were Scott, George and Bradley Scott Woford, and Jim, Jamie and Chris McAskill.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Humane Society or to the Arthritis Foundation.

LISA LEWIS
Lisa Gail Lewis, 38, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at her home.

Born June 21, 1968 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Jimmy Darland of Stanford and Loretta Claunch of Harrodsburg, and was the wife of Chad Lewis.

She was a former Junction City Day Care employee and a cheerleading coach. She was also active in Relay For Life.

In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include: one son, Kenneth “Boo” Burrows of Harrodsburg; five brothers, David Bishop, Tommy Darland and Timmy Darland, all of Harrodsburg, and Leon (Kim) Turpin and Dale (Robin) Turpin, both of Nicholasville; one sister, Jennie (Kent) Wilham of Harrodsburg; maternal grandmother, Bessie Allen of Harrodsburg; paternal grandmother, Carrie Darland of Harrodsburg; special uncle, Willie Turpin of Harrodsburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Donnie Irvin officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers were LeRoy Hardin, Russell Biggs, Tony Lewis, Brad Logan, David Bishop and Rodney Finn.

BOBBY MEAUX
Robert Ivan “Bobby” Meaux, 31, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 in Lexington.

He was the son of Barbara Jean Browning Meaux and the late Robert Ivan Meaux.

He was a 1993 graduate of Harrodsburg High School where he was an athlete in football, basketball and track. He received the Distinguished Athlete Award in 1993 and was voted Biggest Flirt by his classmates. He attended Eastern Kentucky University and Lexington Community College. He was a sales accountant for Gall's Corporation in Lexington and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrodsburg.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one daughter, Alexus Danielle Doneghy of Louisville; one brother, D.K. Meaux of Harrodsburg; maternal grandmother, Barbara Young Browning of Harrodsburg; three aunts, Georgia Ann Dunn of Danville, and Mary (John) Harris and Judy (Kenneth) Jones, both of Harrodsburg; two uncles, Johnny and James Browning, both of Harrodsburg; one great-aunt, Mary Thelma Meaux (William) Parks, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by one uncle, Lloyd Browning Jr.

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Elder J.D. Short III, and Bros. Phil Yates and Donald Smith officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Woodard, Jamie Stockton, Trevent Hayes, John Eddie Kinley, Andre Jones, Sane Burks, Clay Devine, Ross Cairns, Jay Parks, and Terry Yeast.

Honorary pallbearers were his coaches, teammates and classmates of Harrodsburg High School.

Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LOUISE ROGERS
Louise Rogers, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born July 8, 1927 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Leora Gibson Isham, and was the widow of Ralph E. Rogers Sr.

She was a retired Corning Inc. employee, she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and she enjoyed her grandchildren.

Survivors include: two sons, Ralph (Anetta) Rogers Jr. of Mercer County and William D. (Eva LaVerne) Rogers of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Joyce A. Bast of Harrodsburg; three brothers, C.H. (Barbara) Isham, Raymond Isham and Robert Lee Isham, all of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Aliene Matherly; one brother, James Isham, and one son-in-law, Leroy Bast.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Greg Warren officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Ed Behn, Wayne Collier, Eddie Bast, Troy Rogers, Robbie Rogers, Timothy Rogers and John David Rogers.

HUGH SMITH SR.

Hugh Smith Sr., 74, of Burgin, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at his home.

Born June 20, 1932 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late David and Gertie Pryor Smith, and was the husband of Anna Ruth Sanders Smith.

He was a retired Corning Inc. employee of 51 years, and was a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a corporal. He was also a member of the Sassy Steppers Line Dancers, a University of Kentucky fan, and he enjoyed crossword puzzles.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Hugh A. (Denise) Smith Jr. of Burgin and Brian (Angie) Smith of Harrodsburg; one foster brother, Sam (Verna) Stine of Burgin; one half-brother, Bill Smith of Lexington; one foster sister, Minnie Lou (Alfred) Wilson of Danville; one half-sister, Gladys Rheinheimer of Nicholasville; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Gail Smith; one granddaughter, Brianne Smith; a twin brother, Howard Smith, three other brothers, Hancel, Ruben and Nolan Smith, and one sister, Ann Upton.

Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial with military rites was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Smith, Willis Spears, Terry Wilson, Mike Wilson, Jerry Gray and Jerry Thacker.

Honorary pallbearers were Ed Weaver, Brett James, Lauren Smith, members of Scottie Anderson’s Sunday School class and members of The Sassy Steppers Line Dance Club.

OLIVER SMITH SR.

Oliver Meredith Smith Sr., 88, Redwood Dr., Lexington, died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Samaritan Hospital.

He was native of Burgin, and son of the late Sherman Smith and Bertha Payne Smith Young.

He was a member of Main St. Baptist Church and was a former employee of Hyman's Junk Yard.

He is survived: by his daughter-in-law, Dorothy Smith; five grandchildren, Angela White, Lamont, Eric (Lorna), Vandree' (Elizabeth) and Antoine Smith; 11 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Christine Miles, Louisville, Geneva Willis and Myrtle Smith, Cincinnati, and Zelma Smith, Lexington; three brothers, Rev. Sterling (Helen) Smith, Florence, James Smith, Cincinnati and John T. Young; two sisters-in-law, Helen Young and Maryella Young; and extended family, the Millers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Fri, Sept. 1, at the Main St. Baptist Church.

Visitation 11 a.m., Fri until service. The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Nursing Home and Samaritan Hospital for their loving care.

FRAZIER WEBB

Frazier Gay Webb, 58, of Beaumont Dr., Lexington, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Lexington on Aug. 5, 1948, he was the son of the late John Gay and Gertrude Cundiff Carigan Webb.

He was retired from Marathon Oil Company, a 1966 graduate of Henry Clay High School and the University of Kentucky, he was also a Vietnam War US Air Force veteran. He was a member of Walnut Hill Church, the Keeneland Association and the Thoroughbred Club of America. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Ward, the Frankfort Elks Club, a life member of the UK Alumni Association, the British Car Owners Club of America and the Air Force Association. He is a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include: his wife, Jennifer Markin Webb, two daughters, Anne Elizabeth Webb, Lexington, and Mary Margaret Webb, Columbus, OH; and one son, John Gay Webb II, Columbus, OH. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Webb (Joe) Kelly, Salvisa, and Trudy Webb Bonta, Indianapolis, IN; one brother Ky (Martha) Webb, Crestview Hills, KY and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be a held at 1 p.m., Friday at Walnut Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mike Ward officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ky Webb, Alfred Nuckols, Steve Zemba, Robert Hamlin, Jimmy Carigan, Lyn Wiseman, Bill Markin, Dale Wilson, Joe Kelly, and Dudley Webb.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky McCamus, Larry Hershey, Jim Carigan, Pat Carigan, W.E. Carigan II, and Harold Wilson.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m., at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home.

EDWARD WOOLSEY
Edward Leon Woolsey, 57, of Richmond, died Sunday, August 20, 2006.

Born in Missouri on January 6, 1949, he was the son of the late Glen Edward and Lucille Goolsby Woolsey. He was retired from the U. S. Army and a truck driver. He was a member of the Waco Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Joyce Campbell Woolsey; his step-mother Odilia Woolsey; one son, Glen Edward Woolsey, of North Carolina; a step-son, Phillip Howard Releford (Teresa), of Harrodsburg; two step-daughters, Lisa Peal Hallmark, of Johnson City, TN and Teresa Douglas, of Lake city, FL; one brother, Ray Woolsey, of Lancaster; one sister, Glenda Fie, of Philadelphia; his dog “Bebe”; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several half brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, August 28, 2006, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors and burial following.

Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, Richmond, was in charge of the arrangements.

BARBARA BRITTON

Barbara Allen Britton, 78, of Harrodsburg died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 11, 1928 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Bermie and Muriel Robinson Hendren, and was the wife of Wilbur Britton.

She was a co-owner of Britton’s Printing Service and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was also a former W.M.U. director and Bohon election officer.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Alan (Laura) Britton of Burgin; three daughters, Reda (Bill) Johnson of Vale, NC, and Leniece (Ronnie) Dailey and Diana (Bobby Jack) Baker, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, William Odell (Betty) Hendren of Harrodsburg and James Cornell (Arnetta) Hendren of Louisville; one sister, Linda Sue Rogers of London; seven grandchildren, one foster grandchild, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert C. Johnson, Jack Baker, Parker Britton, Eric Baker, Mike Riley and Ray Daniels.

Visitation at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 7-11 a.m., and at the church Thursday after 12 p.m.

LARRY BRYAN
Larry M. Bryan, 63, of Lancaster, died Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Lancaster Christian Care Center.

Born April 28, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, he was an employee of a metal manufacturing plant and a Baptist. He also was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Patterson Bryan; two daughters, Christina and Robin Bryan, both of Lancaster; a stepson, Jeffrey Rawlins, Harrodsburg; four stepdaughters, JoAnn McCormack and Pattie Harris, both of Harrodsburg, Janet Spears, Perryville, and Marjorie Shangraw, Garrard County.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Care Center Chapel by Rev. Daryl Hodge. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
