MELVIN JACKSON
Melvin T. Jackson, 72, of Callaway, FL, died Oct. 6, 2006 at the Chester Sims Veterans Administration Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 29, 1933 in Phenix City, AL, he was the son of the late Andrew and Ocie Jackson, and was the husband of Barbara Jackson.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a medical technologist. He retired as a chief master sergeant after serving in Desert Storm. He was also employed as an agent for the Division of Alcoholic Beverage, Tobacco and Firearms for the state of Florida, and as a bailiff for the Bay County sheriff’s office. He attended Life and Praise Assembly of God Church where he participated in the music ministry.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Sidney (Becky) Jackson of Spring Hill, FL; two step-sons, Tim (Benadine) Quinn and Mark (Karen) Quinn of Panama City, FL; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rose Quinn and Betty Trisler, both of Harrodsburg; four brothers-in-law, Charlie, Johnny, J. W. and Jackie Mattingly, all of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 9 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Bros. John Broome and Craig Walker officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast, 2925 Martin Luther King Drive, Panama City, FL 32405, or to the Alzheimer Support Group, BCCO A, Respite Center, 1116 Frankford Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401.

HATTIE KENDRICK
Hattie Kendrick, 92, formerly of West Office Street, Harrodsburg died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born June 27, 1914 in Shakertown, she was the daughter of the late Gaither Kendrick and Mary Bryant Kendrick.

She attended West Side School, was a retired cook for both Beaumont Inn and the former Avalon Inn. She was a member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg where she was a member of the Stewardess Board, Missionary Board and the Red Hat Society. She was also the current reigning Ms. Harrodsburg Health Care Manor for 2006 and was recently featured in an article in the Harrodsburg Herald.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Frances (Duke) Dunn of Harrodsburg; one foster daughter, Jerry Yates of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one son, James G. Turner; five brothers, George, Harry, William and Price Kendrick and John B. Chenault; five sisters, Ada Mae Frazier, Martha Young, Nettie Short, Alice and Ann Tilden Kendrick.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg with Bros. Ralph Smith, Phil Yates and Herman Bradshaw officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. and Friday prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be David Taylor, John T. Mayes, Melvin Yates, Michael VanDyke, James Bryant and Jim Pittman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Bartleson, Glen Walker, Keith Walker, Gary Walker, Fred Bottoms and Nicholas Short.

The Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

IDA KING

Ida White Grimes King, 82, of Madison Avenue in Danville, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at her residence.

Born Monday, December 3, 1923, in Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ada Conner White.

She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, David (Rosalyn) Grimes, Danville; one daughter, Nettie (George) Cox, Danville; two brothers, Cash and Joe White, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Dorothy Bugg and Anna White, both of Danville; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. King and James Grimes, and a son, Frank Grimes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, with Bro. Clyde Strunk officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BILL MCCRYSTAL
William “Bill” Andrew McCrystal, 68, of Corbin, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006.

Born Feb. 16, 1938 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Matt and Kathleen Elizabeth McCrystal, and was the husband of Jan Garland McCrystal.

He was a retired sergeant of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the VFW.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three children, William Matthew McCrystal, Mickey Carter and Marlena Hickey, all of Corbin; two sisters, Doris Burns and Becky Lewis McCrystal; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and special friends from the Hinkle Contracting Corporation.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mirranah; two sisters, Margarite and Loretta McCrystal, and one brother, Arnold McCrystal.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at the O’Neil Funeral Home in Corbin with the Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Garland Cemetery.

EDWARD PITTMAN
Edward Lee Pittman, 75, of Sunrise Shores, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 29, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Louise Lyons Pittman, and was the widower of Jessie Pearl Broughton Pittman.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war. He worked for General Electric in the shipping and receiving department. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Louisville and the Model A Club.

Survivors include: two daughters, Teresa Lopez of Harrodsburg and Elaine Hoskins of Louisville; one son, John Pittman of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Alice and Irene Baker, both of Harrodsburg, Gladys Ransdell of Salvisa and Jessie Devine of Burgin; two brothers, Jimmy Pittman and Clarence Pittman Jr. of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Edward V. Lay, and two brothers, Marion Pittman and A. C. Pittman.

Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Randy McPheron and Harold Best officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Robinson, James Mitchell, Anthony Pike, Steve Pittman, Marion Pittman Jr. and Matthew Reid.

The deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

MILDRED RINEHART
Mildred Rinehart, 83, of Stanford, died Thursday October 19, 2006 at her home.

Born March 27, 1923, in Hutchenson, KS., she was the daughter of the late William and Mildred Bennett Jones.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include five daughters, Miriam Kinder, KY, Mildred Wathen, Harrodsburg, Sue Mason, Covington, Kay Sanchez, Emporia, VA, and Marie Wilson, Stanford; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 23, at the Berry Family Cemetery by Charles Howard.

Fox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ALLEN ROBINSON
Allen Clinton Robinson, 91, of Mooreland Avenue, Harrodsburg, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 1, 1915 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Carl Allen and Sarah Ebal Peyton Robinson, and was the husband of Lillie Mae Royalty Robinson.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired Seagrams employee and a farmer. He was also a life long member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church and a graduate of Salvisa High School.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Freida (Richard) Smith and Charlotte (Donnie) Jackson, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Edna (W. A.) Miller and Rose (Melvin) Tewmey, both of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Flora Robinson.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Jerel Coffey officiating. Burial will be in Kirkwood Cemetery in Salvisa.

Pallbearers will be Austin Jackson, Clay Peavler, James Herbert Lyons, Brian Rowland, Jimmy Sexton and Bud Hahn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Yeager, Billy Yeager, Gary Yeager, Jim Robinson, Jim Coyle, Eddie Tewmey and Frank Henry.

Visitation at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kirkwood Cemetery Fund.

LISA TAYLOR
Lisa Carol Taylor, 41, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Jan. 23, 1965 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Shirley Baxter Alsman of Harrodsburg and the late Junior Lee Alsman.

She attended the Fellowship Baptist Church in Harrodsburg.

In addition to her mother, survivors include: one daughter, Katie Renee Liddell of Macon, MS; one son, Matthew Keith Haggar of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Rachel Baltimore of Harrodsburg and Sandra Alsman of Munsfordsville; one brother, Jimmy Alsmon of Texas, and six grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Haggard, Doug Alsman, Nick Alsman, James Patterson, Jeremy Liddell and Mario Buster.

Visitation will be at the funeral chapel Thursday after 1 p.m.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted military rites for Billy Dean Sanders at Spring Hill Cemetery Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006.

Those attending were Joe Harlow, Curtis Sherrow, Floyd Shirley, Lucian Landers, J. L. Devine, Kris Stines and James Tewmey.

Bugler was David Best.

Navy representatives from the Louisville Reserve Center were MA2 David Mudd, CS1 Keith Phillips and PC1 Bill Dye.

EMERY BAILEY

Emery M. "Buzz" Bailey, 84, Lexington, widower of Barbara Mae Green Bailey, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at his residence.

A Lexington native, he was the son of the late Emery Matthew and Helen Thomas Bailey.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy and a retired purchasing agent for United Service Company. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, William E. (Gigi) Bailey, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Linda B. (Mike) Gorham, Lexington; two grandchildren, Gregory M. Gorham and Jason Bailey, both of Lexington; and one sister, Frances Fain, Louisville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William M. Bailey; and a sister, Alma Reynolds.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road by Pastor Greg Waltermire. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504.

ELIZABETH BRUMBACK

Elizabeth Hellman Prewitt Brumback , 93, widow of Victor Brumback, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Kenton Healthcare.

Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Florene Keebortz Prewitt.

She was a cook for the former Saratoga restaurant.

Survivors include two special friends, Cathy Tripp, and Desha Sanders; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Brumback.

Funeral services were held at Tuesday, October 31, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home- Harrodsburg Road by Rev. Ronnie Hupp. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Contributions can be made to The Lexington Humane Society, 1600 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, KY 40504.

WESLEY CORN

Wesley H. Corn, 93, of Lawrenceburg, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 at his home.

Born May 10, 1913 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Nina Mae Robinson and Harrison Corn, and was the husband of Mary Onita Drury Corn.

He was co-owner of Corn’s Trailer Park, and a former carpenter, electrician, plumber and backhoe operator. He was a former guard with Florida Tile, and a former employee with Ferrell Gas Company and Kraft Foods. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a member and former overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy in Stanton, and was a former member of the Beaver Creek Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Priscilla (Billy) Hooper and Mary Emma Corn Denton, both of Lawrenceburg; one son, John Wesley “J. W.” (Pam) Corn of Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Beulah Walls of LaGrange, Lida (Frank) Shuller of Louisville, Arnetta Wainscott of Indiana and Rosetta Mattingly of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Kesley Clay (Margaret) Corn of Lexington and Clesley “Babe” (Charlotte) Corn of Indiana; three grandchildren; one step-grandson; three great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Vila Faye Satterly, Eula Wilson, Ida “Tiny” Gudgel and Loretta Travis; four brothers, Chesley Jay Corn, Lesley A. Corn, Presley K. Corn and James Roy Disponett, and one grandson, Charles Allan “Skipper” Sutherland Jr.

Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bros. Michael Long and Truman Satterly officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.

ROBERT JOHNSON

Robert Lee “Bob” Johnson, 94, widower of Louise Owen Sharp Johnson, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006.

Born in Mercer County, he was the son of the late George Jefferson “Jeff” and Flora Janie Brewer Johnson Hager of Mercer County.

He was a former employee of the city of Lexington for 38 years, retiring in 1970 as Superintendent of Public Works. He was a KY Colonel, Veteran of WW II, 1st Sergeant of 869th Chemical Company, attached to the 100th Bomb Group in E.T.O. 8th Air Force. He was well known for his humor.

Survivors include a niece, Lois Povak; nephew, Wayne Hager, stepson, Llewellyn (Bettie Ann) Sharp IV, North Middletown; and four step grandchildren, Llwewllyn, Michael, Rebecca, and Sally, sister-in-law, Lula Owen of Schaumburg, IL and numerous cousins, special cousins, Venita, Oakley, Cheryl, David, Rick and Debbie.

He was preceded in death by half brother, Howard Hager of Mercer County.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28, at the W. R. Milward Funeral Home - Southland. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1305 Audubon Avenue, Lexington, KY 40503.

LEVI MCMULLIN
Levi Patrick McMullin, newborn son of Partick Lee and Amy Michelle Belcher McMullin of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2006, hours after his birth at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

In addition to his parents, survivors include: one sister, Amanda Peyton McMullin; one brother, Jeremiah Seth McMullin; maternal grandparents, Mike and Mary Belle Belcher of Danville; paternal grandparents, Hanley and Annetta McMullin of Mercer County; maternal great-grandmothers, Ruth Smith and Ruth Belcher, both of Danville; paternal great-grandmothers, Susie McMullin and Gladys Reed, both of Mercer County.

Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 30 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. Matthew Atha officiating.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

CAROL PEASE

Carol J. Pease, 70, of Curry Pike, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 28, 1936 in Decatur, IL, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Elsie Antrim Gregory, and was the wife of Les Pease.

She was a graduate of Milliken University in Decatur, and was presently teaching at Anderson County Schools, where she taught Spanish and Drama. She was the past president of the Harrodsburg Women’s Club, a member of Spindletop Hall, and a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church. She loved producing plays for the drama club and riding and raising American Saddlebred horses.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Karla Kay Pease of Winterhaven, FL; one son, Bryan Pease of Naples, FL, and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Mt. Zion, IL. The Dawson and Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion was in charge of arrangements.

The Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
