GARNETT SEMONIS
Garnett Lee Semonis, 76, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Perryville, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 in Harrodsburg.

Born April 15, 1930 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Dave and Emma Barr Semonis.

He was a self-employed lawn mower repairman.

Survivors include: one daughter, Garnetta Wallace of Russellville; two sisters, Leona Combs of Berea and Marge Bowley of Danville, and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Brachie Willoughby officiating.

Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville was in charge of arrangements.

GEORGE WALDRIDGE

George Washington “G. W.” Waldridge, age 69, of Hickory Ridge Road, Waddy, died Friday, December 1, 2006 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

He was born February 22, 1937 in Washington County to the late Homer and Verlie Leathers Waldridge.

He was a member of Grafenburg Christian Church. He retired from Kraft Foods after 36 years of service and IMI after 16 years of service.

Survivors include: his wife of 18 years, Mary Ritter Waldridge, and Beth Gordon, Waddy, KY; one son, George Dale (Rita) Waldridge, Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Sue Waldridge, Harrodsburg, and Tammy (Eddie) Moore, Lawrenceburg; two step sons, Ronnie (Teresa) Gordon, Frankfort, and Tommy Gordon, Shelbyville; one brother, Donnie (Betty) Waldridge, Mt. Eden; two sisters, Setta (Charles) Drury, Lawrenceburg, and Lois Sea, Mt. Washington; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and five step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifton Ray Waldridge, Tommy Gene Waldridge, and Rudolph Waldridge, and a sister, Bonnie Waldridge Lewis.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jonathan Wells, and Bro. Alvin Cummins officiating. Burial will be in Pigeon Fork Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 – 8 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Casket bearers will be George Wade Jenkins, Joshua Dale Waldridge, Bubby Waldridge, Jerry Waldridge, Terry Drury, Glenn Drury, Danny Sea, Tommy Sea, and Johnny Lewis.

Honorary bearers will be Grafenburg Christian Church elders and deacons.

GARNETT ASHFORD

Garnett Ashford, 92, of Harrodsburg, who died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, was laid to rest Friday, Dec. 8.

Services were held at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bruce Ashford, Thomas Ashford, Allen Ashford, Brian Ashford, David Ashford and Steve Tyler.

Honorary pallbearers were Kathy Young, Susan Tyler, Ashley Johnson, Beth Rose and Jamie Butler.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

ALICE DEVINE
Alice Devine, 87, died Dec. 11, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Feb. 9, 1919 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Georgia Matherly Wilham, and was the widow of George Thomas “Toddy” Devine.

She was a retired Cricketeer Manufacturing Company examiner and was presently a member of Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church. She was a former member of Benton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a pianist.

Survivors include: one son, J.L. (Betty) Devine of Harrodsburg; one grandson, Richard Todd Devine of Monroe, TN, and one great-granddaughter, Tabitha Thomas Devine of Harrodsburg.

Services will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Oscar J. Bailey, Kyle Bailey, Larry Wilham, Mickey Gilliand, Tony Best and Mike Hudson.

Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday after 7 a.m.

HATTIE GRANT

Hattie B. Grant, 75, of Poor Ridge Road, Lancaster, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 14, 1931, in Leslie County, she was the daughter of the late James and Cora Day Burkhart. She was the widow of Robinson Grant.

She was a homemaker and a farmer.

Survivors include: one son, John Grant, Paint Lick; two daughters, Mary Ann Lear and Cora "Tootsie" Schmiers, both of Lancaster; three sisters, Gladys Wells, Frankfort, Mallie Denny, Burgin, and Mackie McClements, Lexington; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by an infant child, Dallas Robinson Grant.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, by Rev. Bill Graves. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Todd Bowling, Randy Prewitt, Jason Hall, Keith Greer, Phillip Delany and John Schmiers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Miller, Johnnie Underwood, David Layton, Manford Teater, Lewis Layton, James Delany and William Kirby Teater.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday.

ODIE GWINN

Odie Curtsinger Roney Gwinn, died Wednesday December 6, 2006 of natural causes at the home of her daughter, Joyce Roney Strauss, Lexington.

Born July 16, 1913 in Springfield, she was the daughter of late William and Mattie Bell Curtsinger.

She was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church and The Joy Sunday School Class and had volunteered over 2000 hours over 20 years through the Central Baptist Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her daughter, survivors include: one son, G. W. (Gloria) Roney, Lexington; one brother, William "Jr." Curtsinger, Jr., Harrodsburg; three sisters, Dorothy Carney, Louisville, Aileen McGinnis, Harrodsburg and Bertha Eggleston, Minter, OH; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Roney and Herbert Gwinn, and two brothers, Donald Curtsinger and Cleo Curtsinger.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 8, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway with Dr. Craig A. Loscalzo officiating. Burial Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation Thursday, December 7, from 4-7 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Alley, Frank Barker, Bob Gannoe, Ken Speer, Harley Taylor and Ron White.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Joy Sunday School Class whom she loved dearly.

Memorials to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

CLAYTON MARTIN
Clayton Martin, 92, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006.

Born March 29, 1914 in Brumfield, he was the son of Carl Vernon and Sarah Richard Stewart Martin, and was the widower of Ila Mae Rankin Martin.

He was a graduate of Perryville High School and the University of Kentucky College of Commerce. He had been employed by Commercial Credit corporation and First Huntington National Bank. He operated the Ford Automobile Dealership in Harrodsburg, worked for Corning Glass and retired from the State of Kentucky department of finance. He served on the Harrodsburg Board of Education, the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church Administrative Board, Harrodsburg Little League, University of Kentucky Alumni Association and was president of the Perryville Cemetery Association–Hillcrest Cemetery until 2004.

Survivors include: three sons, James Clayton, William Allen and Thomas Stewart Martin; one daughter, Mary Anne Martin; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, John Richard Martin; one brother, Donald McGee Martin, and one sister, Elizabeth Logan Martin Costello.

Graveside services will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillcrest Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 41, Perryville, KY 40468.

SUSIE MONTGOMERY

June 23, 1919 - Dec. 3, 2006

Susie Olive Cobb Walker Montgomery, 87, widow of Tony Walker and Ben Montgomery, of Bethel Lane in Frankfort, died Sunday, Dec. 3.

Born in Jessamine County on June 23, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Dave and Lilly Quimby Cobb. She was a member of the Logana Baptist Church.

Survivors include: six children and their spouses, Archie (Mary) Cobb, Nicholasville, Charles (June) Walker, NM, Betty Miller, Monticello, Mattie Mae (James) Eastman, Frankfort, Ronald (Joann) Walker, Lawrenceburg, and William Hubert (Genice) Walker, Harrodsburg; two adopted sons, Charlie Camron, Jamestown, and Allen Reynolds; one stepson, Lester (Birdie) Montgomery, Nicholasville, one sister, Mary Mae Davis, Nicholasville and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other family members.

Services were held Tuesday, December 5, at the Betts & West Funeral Home with the Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Bearers were David Cobb, Thomas Walker, Larry Walker, Paul Ray Walker, Stephen Tolson, James Tolson and Daniel Tolson.

Honorary bearers were Ray Puckett and Brent Reynolds.

DEBRA MORRIS
Debra V. Morris, 42, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006 at her home.

Born May 17, 1964 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Jo Ann Absher Venters.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts, fishing, gardening and water sports.

Survivors include: one son, Christopher Morris of Lexington; one brother, Chuck Venters of Nicholasville; one sister, Suzie Hatfield of Burgin; two grandchildren, and four nieces.

Services were held Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Leonard Price officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Baird, A. J. Baird, Adam Simmons, Chris Davidowski, Ryan Lawler and Clint Venters.

JAMES NEWBY
James H. Newby, 88, of Ada Drive, Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born March 2, 1918 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Hansford and Iva Turner Newby, and was the husband of Kathleen Long Newby.

He was owner and operator of a furniture store for many years. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Training Union director and church moderator.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Frances Jane (Winston) Gouzoules of Greenland, NH, and Carolyn Joyce Dunning of Danville; two sons, James Marshall (Scotty) Newby and Jerry (Patricia) Newby, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Blanche Alsup of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Marvin Leon Newby, and three sisters, Mary Riley, Zelma Dean and Alma Burkhead.

Services were held Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley and Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barry Newby, Shane Newby, Brent Newby, Brad Dunning, Ronnie Long, Ricky Long, Larry Long and Eddie Long.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church, 502 Ada Drive, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

REBECCA RAYENS
Rebecca Jane Rayens, 85, of Danville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 at her home.

Born Feb. 12, 1921 in Harlan County, she was the daughter of the late David C. and Emily Jane Turner Kelly, and was the widow of William Franklin Rayens.

She was a retired cook for the Kentucky School for the Deaf and a member of the Alum Springs First Church of God.

Survivors include: one daughter, Darlene (Jerry) Cook of Danville; two sons, Bruce (Patricia) Rayens of Danville and Bill (Mary Kay) Rayens of Lexington; two brothers, Casey Kelly of Louisville and Robert Kelly of Sidney, OH; 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Ed Rayens; two brothers, Jim and Elmore Kelly, and three sisters, Sarah Sharp, Grace Sergent and Victoria Kelly.

Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with the Rev. Dennis Creech officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sadie’s Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 112, Perryville, KY 40468.

PATRICIA SIMPSON

Patricia Margaret Durham Simpson, 63, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday December 5, 2006 at the Rockcastle Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Born May 18, 1943, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Durham Sr. and Mary Nichols Durham Owsley.

She was a member of the New Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Charles Pittman, Crab Orchard, Gerald Pelkonen, Stanford and David Pittman; two daughters, Jennifer Denson, Harrodsburg, and Melissa Durham, Crab Orchard; one sister, Jennie M. Durham, Bowling Green; three brothers, Ernest L. Durham and Robert Durham, both of Stanford, and Arnold Durham Jr., Lancaster; a companion, Wayland Ballard, Crab Orchard; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday, December 11, at the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

McKnight Funeral Home, Crab Orchard, was in charge of arrangements.

WALTER STOCKER
Walter David Stocker, 86, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 15, 1920 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late John and Ella Trueheart Curd Stocker, and was the husband of Frances True Freeman Stocker.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Universal Button Company supervisor and a member of the Overland Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Jennifer “Ginger” (Robin) Parks of Versailles; two sons, Walter “Skip” (Joy) Stocker of Harrodsburg and Donald Thomas “Tommy” (Jan) Stocker of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Annelle Scott of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Luther Donald Stocker of Burgin and Jimmy (Geneva) Stocker of Frankfort; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, Dec. 8 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Mike Estes officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Pallbearers were Justin Stocker, Ian Parks, Andy Stocker, Evan Stocker, Rusty Parks, Shane Parks, Will Begley and Robin Parks.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

E. B. YATES
Elijah B. “E. B.” Yates, 81, died Dec. 7, 2006 at his home.

Born Dec. 20, 1925 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Powell and Treva Lee Yates, and was the husband of Mildred Yocum Yates.

He attended school in Mercer County, attended vocational school in Lexington, and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific. He retired from the University of Kentucky mechanical engineering department after 40 years as an engineering technician. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington for 56 years and served in many capacities, including deacon, usher and Boy Scout leader.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Alan B. (Danna) Yates of Harrodsburg; one sister, Marlene (Carl) Vanarsdall of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Don Billy (Janice) Yates of Harrodsburg and Cleo (Marie) Yates of Jackson, MI; one brother-in-law, Elwood Norton of Harrodsburg, and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rowena Norton and Neva Wallace.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 11 at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Loscalzo and the Rev. Steve Gray officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Matthew Hatton, Jimmy Wallace, Bill Sills, Dan Brock, Sylvan Ferrell and Marshall Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers were nieces and nephews and the members of the Builders Sunday School class.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Christmas for Christ Fund, 3100 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, KY 40502, or to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
