FRANCIS WING
Francis Earl Wing, 87, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at his home.

Born April 21, 1920 in LaPorte, IN, he was the son of the late Earl and Margaret (Annen) Wing, and was the widower of Ruth Annelle Cunningham Wing.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Mercer County Senior Citizens. He was retired from Bussell Auto Sales, where he was an auto body repairman for a number of years.

Survivors include: one daughter, Marie Colabella of Los Angeles, CA; one son, Alan Bruce Laymon of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances “Beth” Spears.

Services were held Tuesday, July 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Harold Best officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 801 S. Limestone, Suite E, Lexington, KY 40508.

NANCY YOCUM (KEITH)
Nancy Louise Yocum, 60, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Valley View Health Care Center in Taylorsville.

Born Feb. 8, 1947 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Sires Yocum.

She was a nurse’s aide.

Survivors include: three daughters, Tammy Dean, Vicky Carol Warner and Christy Hicks, all of Harrodsburg; one son, Keith Edward Peach of Lawrenceburg; one sister, Eugenia Rogers of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Sidney Yocum of Harrodsburg and C. J. Yocum of Mace, IN; 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 3 at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Salvisa with Danny Broce officiating.

FRANCES CARSTENSEN

Frances S. Carstensen, 90, of Salvisa, formerly of Piscataway, NJ, and Staten Island, NY, died July 3, 2007 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.

Born April 11, 1917 in Staten Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette Sienicki, and was the widow of Robert R. Carstensen Sr.

She was a longtime member of the Polish National Alliance, and she had a great love for Kentucky.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert (Marsha) Carstensen Jr. of Pleasant Valley, NY, and Bruce (Erin) Carstensen of Tinton Falls, NJ; five grandchildren, Donald (Ann) Herr of Clinton Corners, NY, Carly Herr of Kingston, NY, Emily Carstensen of Morristown, NJ, Pamela Carstensen of Tinton Falls, NJ, and Eric Carstensen, USMC, stationed in Iraq; three great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Rohls and Sophie Grupp.

Funeral services will be held at a later date at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Allen Funeral Home in Pleasant Valley is in charge of arrangements.

MARY CHROUSER
Mary Ann Stagg Chrouser, 84, died Sunday, July 8, 2007.

Born June 27, 1923 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James H. Stagg and Christine Stevens Routt, and was the widow of Dr. Alfred James Chrouser.

She was educated at Centre College and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Christine (Samuel) Brown and Cathryn (Thomas) Miller; two sons, Bruce Blakely Chrouser and Alfred James Chrouser Jr., and eight grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held in the Lexington Cemetery.

W. R. Milward Mortuary in Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

ELMER CLARK JR.

Elmer Wilson Clark Jr., 83, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 21, 1924 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Elmer Wilson Sr. and Sarah Bell Frederick Clark, and was the husband of Helen Releford Clark.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Rand McNally in Versailles, where he was the first employee to be hired and worked as an inventory control manager. He was a member of the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing and was an avid University of Kentucky fan. He had also played semi-professional football during his college years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Alan Dale (Pat) Clark of Fayettesville, NC, and Jeff (Sandy) Clark of Lexington; one daughter, Kellie (Robert) Tatum of Harrodsburg; one stepson, Richard (Sharon) Jones of Burgin; one stepdaughter, Teresa (Rick) Blaisdell of Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 6 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. James Harley and Harold Best officiating. Burial with military honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Clark, Trevor Blevins, Dusty Baker, Brett Jones, Robert Tatum and Rick Blaisdell.

LILLIAN CUNNINGHAM
Lillian Elizabeth Cunningham, 88, a resident of The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit, died Friday, July 6, 2007.

Born April 14, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Beulah McKee Harvey, and was the widow of Arthur Cunningham.

She was a nurse’s aide at Noel’s Rest Home and Hill’s Rest Home for several years and was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Wilgus Thomas Hayden Sr. of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Lillian Hernandez and Lucille Hayden, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Cordia Washington of Louisville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services were held Monday, July 9 at the Centennial Baptist Church with Elder J.D. Short III officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Ellis, Guy Harvey, Jewell Gill, Ernie Guthrie, William Murphy and Gary Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were Hosea Walker, Bentley Jones, Tim Jones, William Bartleson, DeWayne Buster and Charles Winn.

The Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

NINA GRAVES
Nina Penn Graves, 91, died Monday, July 9, 2007.

Born June 15, 1916, a native of Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Penn, and was the widow of Hubert Graves.

She was a retired National Distillery switchboard operator.

Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy (Don) Richardson of Versailles and Jan Noonan of Frankfort; three sons, Donald H. (Juanita) Graves of Lancaster, Michael W. (Linda) Graves of Salvisa and Dana K. (Rachel) Graves of Knoxville, TN; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, July 12 at 12 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home - Rose Hill in Versailles with the Rev. Carl Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort.

Pallbearers will be Eric and Marc Richardson, David, Darren, Brian and Jared Graves and Will Noonan.

Visitation will be at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday.

SIDNEY HOLLAR
Sidney G. Hollar, 68, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 24, 1939 in Carlisle, he was the son of the late Oral and Mary Florence Hollar, and was the husband of Monnie Carolyn Hurst Hollar.

He was a Shakertown employee and a retired IBM, Inc. tool and die maker. He was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, where he served as an elder and former chairman of the board. He was also past president of the PTA and Band Parents at Bryan Station School in Lexington.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Monnie (Tim) Berger of Harrodsburg; one son, Tony (Susan) Hollar of Columbus, OH; three sisters, Trienzi Horn and Teressa Sampson, both of Carlisle, and Brenda Haunce of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Oral Hollar Jr. of Versailles and Ralph Hollar of Corpus Christi, TX; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, July 10 at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Walter Arnold and Dr. David Ross officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rich Lane, Jeff Blankenship, Chad Hollar, Caleb Berger, C. T. Lamblin, Paul Shirley, Tony Shirley and Mason Shirley.

Honorary pallbearers were David Ross, Ralph Clark, John Moffett, Howard Nichols, Ken Klemme, Bobby Christiansen, Mac Cecil and Ethan Klemme.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, 102 South Chiles Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

VIRGINIA HUFFMAN
Virginia M. Huffman, 84, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born May 29, 1923 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Lena Sanford Shewmaker, and was the widow of William Foster Huffman.

She was a retired seamstress for the Cricketeer Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, where she was an elder emeritus and a member of the Goodwill Sunday School class.

Survivors include: one daughter, Brenda H. Stanley of Lancaster; one son, Jerry Huffman of Harrodsburg; one sister, Dorothy Scrogham of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, July 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dann Masden and James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Stevens, Jimmy McGlone, Bill McGlone, Bernie McGlone, Harry “Butch” Woodard and Marvin B. “Bubby” Isham.

Honorary pallbearers were the elders, deacons and Goodwill Sunday School class members of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

GAY MAYES
Gay H. Mayes, 70, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007.

Born Nov. 7, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Frank Lee and Pauline White Harris, and was the widow of Loyd Mayes Jr.

She was retired from Miller-Woodward Jewelers and was former co-owner of the Family Affair Restaurant in Lexington and the Apple Tree Restaurant in Harrodsburg. She was a member of the Tates Creek Christian Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Susan (Louis) Muldrow of Lexington; two sons, Bobby (Lynn) Purdom of Nicholasville and Philip Purdom of Owensboro; two brothers, John Ed (Stella) Harris and Terry Harris; two sisters, Bonnie Sams and Helen Applegate, and one granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three children, Mitsy, Patsy, and Tony Purdom; one brother, Frank Harris Jr., and one sister, Joy Morton.

A graveside service was held Saturday, July 7 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

MARY MCCRISTAL
Mary L. McCristal, 91, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, July 9, 2007 at her home.

Born June 16, 1916 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Garrett Jennings and Bessie Mae Coker Jennings Royalty, and was the widow of Arthur David McCristal.

She was a former employee of Cricketeer and was a nursing assistant for 26 years. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one half brother, Bud Royalty of Bohon; three half sisters, Verna Yuknawicz of Dayton, OH, Irene Rowe of Louisville and Rosetta Huffman of Cornishville; four grandchildren, Marty Pulliam of Stanford, Woody Pulliam of Buffalo, Barbara Buckner of Louisville and Janice Booth of Harrodsburg; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Pulliam of Harrodsburg, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Henry Marshall Pulliam III and John Lee Pulliam Sr.; two daughters, Shirley Louise Pulliam and Anna Jean Jackson; one daughter-in-law, Louise Million Pulliam; one grandson, John Lee Pulliam Jr., and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Wednesday, July 11 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Garl Booth, George Buckner, Mike Huffman, Larue Huffman, Ernest Mobley and Garnett Mobley.

CHARLES MERRIMAN
Charles Thomas Merriman, 71, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Nov. 1, 1935 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Claude B. and Bessie Sallee Merriman, and was the husband of Edna Watts Merriman.

He was member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Melissa Merriman and Vicki M. Davis, both of Harrodsburg; three sons, Danny and Ricky Merriman, both of Harrodsburg, and Steve Merriman of Arkansas; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Doyle and Helen Ryan, both of Harrodsburg, and Edith Drury of Nicholasville; two brothers, Arnold Merriman of Harrodsburg and Everett Merriman of Texas; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Friday, July 6 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Ty Clenney officiating. Burial was in Berea Christian Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tommy Watts, John Willie Watts, Garnett Robinson, Bobby Long, Dale Durr and Jerry Barnett.

DANNY MILLER
Daniel R. “Danny” Miller, 51, of Dry Ridge, formerly of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.

Born Jan. 21, 1956 in Mt. Vernon, he was the son of Delia Miller of Salvisa and the late Charlie W. Miller, and was the husband of Donna Jones Miller.

He was a member of the Crittenden Christian Church.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include: six children, Carolyn Miller and Leland Fraizer, both of Dry Ridge, and Danny Miller, Cameron Miller, Alesha Miller and Alex Miller, all of Georgetown; two brothers, five sisters, and 27 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael A. Bailey.

Services were held Wednesday, July 11 at the Tucker, Yocum and Wilson Funeral Home in Paris with the Rev. Mike Delaney officiating. Burial was in the Paris Cemetery.

Children served as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers were Tommy Ritchie, Tim Thomas and Buck Gibson.

DAVID MUDD SR.

David M. Mudd Sr., 71, Lexington, died Tuesday July 10, 2007 at his residence.

Born October 6, 1935 in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Joseph Gerald Mudd and Mary Helen Jenkins Mudd.

He was a retired electrician, a member of Bass Masters, Channel 3 Skippers Club and a member of the Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Cora Ritchey Mudd; three daughters, children, Karen L. McGaughey, Julie A. Decker, Stacey L. Mudd; one son, David M. (Andrea) Mudd, II; six grandchildren; Paul Long II, Michael Long, Brad Decker, Aimee Mudd, Jonathan Mudd, Zachary Mudd, and a great-grandchild, Madison Decker; and a cousin, Linda McKenney.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary conducted by Rev. Joe Muench with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland.

Casket bearers will be Paul Long II, Kent and Tim Mudd, Scott McKenney, Mack Freeman and Bill Chowing.

Honorary bearers will be Jim Atkins, Ron Smith and Sonny Ritchey.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

CLARA ROUNDTREE
Clara Roundtree, 89, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Johnson Mathers Health Care in Carlisle.

Born March 25, 1918 in Harrison County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Amanda Lucy Whirles Kearns, and was the widow of Lee Roundtree.

She was a retired employee of Bourbon County Hospital with 30 years of service and was a member of the Carlisle Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Jimmy (Kay) Roundtree of Paris; two daughters, Faye (Bill) Storey of Harrodsburg and Helen (Jimmy) McGinley of Lexington; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, July 5 at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Paris with the Rev. James Gaunce officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers were Lee Storey, Brian Roundtree, Wes Rowe, Rob Cosgriff, Sean Cosgriff, Jimmy McIlvain and John Vanlandingham.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Rowe and Brian Cosgriff.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson Mathers Health Care Activities Fund, 2323 Concrete Road, Carlisle, KY 40311, or to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
