RALSTON HAMLIN

Ralston Lewis Hamlin, 81, died Saturday, July 14, 2007.

Born in Whitley City, KY, he was the son of the late Milford and Sadie Mae Hamlin, and husband of Betty Roberts Hamlin.

He was retired from Everhard Automation and V. R. Wesson and was a member of Springdale Baptist Church. An Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Felecia (Bob) Meadows, Harrodsburg, Patricia (Richard) Smith and Vanessa (Mike) Sonnefeld, both of Orlando, FL; one sister, Connie Borden; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Margaret Hamlin; one daughter, Teresa Crouch; and two sisters, Joyce Blust and Ruby Mathews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland with the Revs. Tim Saylor and Ken Gayhart officiating. Burial followed at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

MALVIN HART
Malvin Hart, 77, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville, KY.

Born Dec. 16, 1929 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Albert Hart and Lula Devine Hart.

He was a retired printer and a member of Benton Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his mother include: his mother: two sons: Malvin LaVaughn Hart of Louisville and Timothy Ray Hart of Danville; one sister: Mattie B. Neal of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and Special Friend, Michele Campbell of Harrodsburg. He was predeceased by two brothers, Garnett and Cleo Hart.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Curtis Sims.

LULA JAMES
Lula Mae Terhune James, 87, Cane Run St., Harrodsburg, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at The Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born June 30, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth (Brown) Terhune, and was the widow of Jesse L. James.

She was a retired operator for South Central Bell and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Rita (Jim) McGlone of Harrodsburg; two sons, Terry (Elisa) James of Harrodsburg and Connie Lee (Christine) James of E. Grand Rapids, MI; four grandchildren, Angela S. (Erich) Ruehs, Clay D. (Christie) McGlone, Morgan C. James and Taylor E. James; two step-grandchildren, Phillip (Bridgette) Gillespie and Michelle Gillespie; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jesse L. James, and a brother, Hanley Terhune.

Services were Saturday, July 21, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dann Masden officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Blevins, Marvin Robinson, Clay McGlone, Erich Ruehs, Phillip Gillespie, Morgan James, Ricky Shewmaker and Bobby Royalty.

Honorary pallbearers were Doc McKinney, members of the Bethany Sunday School Class and her caregivers: Barbara Bradshaw, Jun Lester, Pat Lay and Ruth Gregory.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Christian Church Renovation Fund or Heritage Hospice.

KENNETH PIERCE
Kenneth Ray Pierce, 69, a 46-year resident of Southern California, died Saturday July 21, 2007 at Redlands Community Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1938 in Lexington to the late Herman B. and Nellie Denny Pierce of Harrodsburg.

He served for 12 years in the U.S. Navy. A 30-year employee of BMW of Riverside California.

Survivors include his wife Helen Pierce of Redlands, his children Kenneth Ray Pierce Jr. of Toronto Ontario, Canada, Stacey Lynn and Douglas James; granddaughter Isabella Grace Van Gelder of Seattle, WA, Scott Patrick and Kirstin Bryan Pierce of Redlands, Kelly Renee and Matthew Emerson Ready of Seattle and Daniel Matthew Emberson Ready of Redlands; brother Dennis L. Pierce of Danville; two sisters, Naomi Green of Charlotte, NC, and Jacqueline Foster of Shelbyville.

A Private Military Ceremony was conducted at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.

The family has requested that all memorial condolences and/or contributions be made online to the American Lung Association, Wall of Remembrance http:/lungusa.org

LOIS SHIFFLETT
Lois Shifflett, 81, of Salvisa, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at The Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 11, 1926 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Earl and Leona Collier Smith, and was the widow of Alvin Lee Shifflett.

She was a retired Heritage Hall caregiver and a member of the Salvisa Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Vicki Sue Tyler of Salvisa; one son, Connie Shifflett of Salvisa; one sister, Elsie Mae Hahn of Salvisa; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday, July 21, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dallas Daniels officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Tyler, Jason Tyler, Greg Hammons, Justin Shifflett, Timmy Taylor, Jeff Harper, Ricky Lane, Cameron Winburn, Josh Bowman, Dillon Harper and Josh Mitchell.

MARY TRIMBLE

Mary E. Trimble, 78, of Bronston, KY died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 in Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born in Colo, KY on March 17, 1929 to the late Jonathon C. and Sabie Rose Dykes.

She was married to Harold Dick on January 6, 1951, and he departed this earthly life in 1969. She then married James West in 1962, and he also preceded her in death. In September of 1988, she married Buddy Trimble in Somerset. She was a member of the High St. Baptist Church.

Along with her husband, she is survived by: three sons, Bro. Sherman Dick of Somerset, Morris (Tammy) Dick of Somerset, and James (Angel) Dick of Newnan, GA; three step-sons, Jimmy Trimble of Frankfort, Danny Trimble of Somerset, and Johnny (Sheryl) Trimble of Harrodsburg; five daughters, Francis Dick of Burnside, Joyce (Michael) McClure of Leesville, LA, Wilda Gossett of Dallas, GA, Faye Dick of Phoenix, AZ , and Helen (Brian) McDaniel of Buckeye, AZ; four step-daughters, Kaye (Larry) Russell of Shelbyville, Joyce Trimble of Georgetown, Ruth Ann West of Burnside, and Emma Jean Bramnum of Burnside; one brother, Earnest Crayton Dykes; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her husbands, Mrs. Trimble was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Leslie Dykes, David Dykes, Edwin Dykes, James Dykes, Paul Dykes, and Linville Dykes, Wintergreen Dykes, and Seth Dykes, as well as three infant brothers and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Bro. Marvin Rose and Bro. J. S. New officiating. Internment will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the High St. Baptist Church fund.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted military rites for Clyde Majors at Spring Hill Cemetery July 18, 2007.

Those attending were Jim Stinnett, Joe Harlow, Curtis Sherrow, Lucian Landers, Howard H. Howells Sr., Floyd Shirley and Earl Sherrow.

David Best served as bugler.

Navy representatives from Louisville were YN1 Theresa Faherty, SN Joshua Atkins and SN1 Kevin Sherman.

GARY ADAMS

Gary Lynn Adams, 49, of Kingsway Drine, Nicholasville, died Saturday, July 28, at Central Baptist Hospital.

He was a native of Garrard County, born May 13, 1958 to the late Lee and Marie Cox Adams.

Gary was an employee of Altec where he worked as a team leader. He enjoyed truck pulls and playing with his daughter.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Ann King Adams; one daughter, Jessica’Lynn Adams; his father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Dora King; five sisters, Stella (Bill) Estes, Stanford, Joyce (Larry) Phillips, Stanford, Elsie Adams, Lancaster, Carolyn (Bill) Davis and Barbara (Roy) Grimes, both of Nicholasville; three brothers, Donnie (Connie) Adams, Harrodsburg, Richard (Linda) Adams, Lancaster, and Johnny Adams and his companion Rita Graham; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death in 2004 by a sister Jeannie Peavler.

Services were held Tuesday, July 31, at the Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home, Nicholasville, with Rev. Peggy Waggoner officiating. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were his nephew and great-nephews, Brandon Adams, Devin Adams, Allen Mattingly, Michael Johnson, Curtis Grimes, Johnathan Grimes, and James Clark.

Honorary bearers were his brothers-in-law, Bill Estes, Roy Grimes, Bill Davis, Larry Phillips, Billy King, and Mike King.

BETTY BURKHEAD

Betty Burkhead, 68, New Castle, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at the Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.

Born February 9, 1939 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Hattie Quinn Lyons, and was the widow of Leon Burkhead.

She was a homemaker and a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one sister, Myrtle Lewis of Harrodsburg and one half-sister, Addie Bea Moberly of New Castle.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Pulliam and Charlie Lyons, and two sisters, Sarah Pittman and Gladys Thornton.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BILLY CARPENTER

Billy Joe Carpenter, 63, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Danville, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 after a short illness.

Among his survivors is a sister, Corrine Johnson.

There will be no services.

IRENE DURHAM

Irene Durham, 80 of Glenmore Heights in Lancaster died Tuesday July 24, 2007 in Danville

Born September 9, 1926 in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence & Jean Thompson Naylor. She was the widow of Charles Durham

She was a retired employee of Rite Aid, and a member of the Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by two brothers George H. and J. K. Naylor, and a sister Gladys Davis.

Survivors include: five sisters, Florence McCane and Lula Montgomery of Lancaster, Marie Merchant of Harrodsburg, Wilma Wagner of Seattle, WA and Mary Francis Irvin of Batesville, MS.

Services were held Friday, July 27, at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, by Bro. Jerry Browning. Burial was in Camp Nelson Cemetery.

Nephews were pallbearers and nieces served as honorary bearers.

TRAVIS KELLERSBERGER
Travis Taerlach Kellersberger, 16, of Salvisa, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at his home.

Born April 8, 1991 in Ft. Campbell, he was the son of Scot Charles and Laura Jean Burkey Kellersberger.

He was a Junior at Mercer Senior High.

Other survivors include: two sisters, Bethany June Kellersberger and Kirsten Lenore Kellersberger, both of Salvisa; one brother, Russel Donald Kellersberger of Salvisa, and maternal grandfather Robert (Blanche) Lawrence Burkey.

Memorial service to be held at a later date. Ransdell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM MILLER
William Alva “Boots” Miller, 87, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 12, 1920 in Hardin County, he was the son of the late Alva and Lora Cundiff Miller, and was the husband of Edna Lucille Robinson Miller.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #349, Dugginville, and Hopewell Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, trustee and a member of various committees.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: a stepdaughter, Harriet (Jim) Coyle; three stepchildren by a former marriage, William (Judy) Honerkamp, Naomi (Charles) Pittman and Irene Burton; two step-grandchildren, Christie (Bill) Mills and Shane Coyle, and three step-great grandchildren, Micayah, Brianna and Joshua Mills.

Services were Saturday, July 28, at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Bill Mills and Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial was in Kirkwood Cemetery.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.

BETTY MORRIS

Betty Paris Springate Morris, 72, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born May 18, 1935 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Coleman Paris and Myrtle Bryant Springate. She was the widow of the late Bennett Morris.

She was a 1953 Salvisa High School graduate, a cook and long time employee with the Salvisa General Store and a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church.

She is survived by: three sons, Keith (Anne) Morris and Dudley (Bobbe) Morris, both of Salvisa, Craig (Kay) Morris of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Gerri S. Hawthorne of Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Maurice Springate, Byron Springate, Roy Springate, W. S. Inman, Cotton Springate, Kavanaugh Inman and Herman Inman, Jr.

Funeral service were held Friday, July 27, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Jerel Coffey and Bro Cawood Morris officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Shirley Hoskins, 103 Saffell St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

GRACE ROGERS

Grace Elizabeth Rogers, 1 ½ days, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the U. K. Medical Center in Lexington.

She is survived by her parents, Josh and Lisa Sharp Rogers; sister, Cheyenne Rogers, brothers, Cale and Abram Handy, all of Lawrenceburg; maternal grandparents, Charles “Tommy” and Rachael Sharp of Owenton; paternal grandparents, Glen and Brenda Rogers of Lawrenceburg; maternal great-grandmothers, Mildred Acree of Owenton and Ida Bell Sharp of Georgetown; paternal great-grandmothers, Louise Rogers of Harrodsburg and Wanda Cornett Ingram of Irvine; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 29, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. David “Milkweed” Wotier officiating. Burial was in Mussell Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery in Owenton.

JUNIOR TURNER
Junior Lee Turner, 65, Harrodsburg, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at his residence.

Born September 9, 1941 in Somerset, he was the son of the late Albert and Nonie Price Turner, and was the husband of Betty Rose Turner,

He had worked 23 years with Cudahay, eight years with Dairymen and 12 years at Dairy Queen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was an avid fan of television westerns.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons: Terry Lee Turner and his wife, Stephanie of Harrodsburg, and Robert Charles Hayes of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Vickie Carol Arnold of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Evelyn Bush of Harrodsburg, Betty Jean Sears of Burgin, Sue Harrison of Harrodsburg and Violet Hafley of Mitchellsburg; four brothers, John Turner of Texas, Wilburn Turner of Harrodsburg, Lavonnie Turner of Missouri and Odell Turner of Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Louie J. Turner, and one sister: Christine Mize.

A memorial service will be Thursday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Harrodsburg with Stuart Holt officiating.
