James E. Riley, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born Oct. 20, 1928 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Lafayette and Alma Sanders Riley.
He was a Reed’s Horse Service truck driver and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his niece Rose Grider and his many friends at Cardinal Meadows.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Reva Pelley.
Services were Friday, Aug. 10, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with Joe Sanders, Roy Lee Sanders, Jackie Riley, Lee Sanders and Larry Sanders serving as pallbearers.
GENE VANDYKE
Gene Wesley Van Dyke, 72, of Federal Way, WA, died Aug. 10, 2007.
Born Sept. 29, 1934 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Ralph and Iwlo Jean Van Dyke, and was the husband of Audrey Stevenson Van Dyke.
He was a graduate of West Side High School in Harrodsburg, spent more than three years active duty in the Navy, then joined the Navy Reserves. He continued to serve in the Active Navy Reserves until retirement from the military service with a total of more than 30 years. He also worked for the postal service and retired in 1984 completing 25 years of Civil Service. After his retirement from the postal service in 1984 he was employed again working as a bus driver for several companies serving the disabled. He was a member of Centennial Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Dorothy Chapman, Barbara Crawford and Joanne Harding, all of Seattle; one son, Horace Jacobs of Seattle; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; six sisters, Geneva Penman, Dessie Brown, Arnetta Bottoms and Gloria Bowman, all of Harrodsburg, and Lillie Doty and Mary Owens of Lexington; one brother, Allen of San Jose, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Paul, and two grandchildren.
Committal and Military Honors were held Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.
Bonney-Watson of Federal Way, WA was in charge of arrangements.
GENE WILLHAM
Gene Gardner Willham died, 82, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at Central Baptist Hosipital in Lexington after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Hobart Bishop and Myrtle Britton Gardner of Harrodsburg.
She graduated from Georgtown College and was a former elementary school teacher in the Harrodsburg and Danville school systems. She was a part of establishing two missions of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, now Ellers Memorial and Friendship Baptist Churches. She taught Sunday school groups and assisted with the music program in churches where her husband served as pastor in Kentucky, New York, Alabama and Florida. In her later years she taught English as a second language to foreign university students.
Survivors include: her husband of 59 years, the Rev. William O. Willham; two daughters, Johanna Willham of Richmond, and Elissa (Rev. Dennis) Phillips of Titusville, Fla.; two granddaughters, Christina (Jaron) Cohen of Lexington and Leah (Tim) Mallace of South Daytona, FL; three great-grandchildren, Carter and Clair Mallace and Sonny Cohen; and one sister, Gaynelle (William) Pinkston of Harrodsburg. She was a member of the Danville First Baptist Church, 127 Bypass.
A private family graveside service was conducted Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007 at Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg by Stith Funeral Home.

DILLON WREN
Dillon Michael Wren, 20, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Middlesboro and Lexington, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 at his residence.
He was born July 9, 1987 in Fayette County. He was an employee with GT Excavating, a member of the Baptist faith, and enjoyed racing dirt bikes.
Survivors include: his wife of three weeks, Cheri Dews Wren of Harrodsburg; one son, Dillon Michael Wren Jr. of Nicholasville; his mother, Cathy Lynn Brooks of Nicholasville; his father, Sylvester Wren Jr. of Richmond; paternal grandparents, Marvin Brooks of Middlesboro and Rose Brooks of Lexington; one sister, Amy Wren of Richmond; two brothers, Sylvester “Junior” Wren III of Middlesboro and Matthew Wren of Richmond; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sandy Dews and Garnett Tucker, of Mercer County; two nieces, McKenzie Wren of Middlesboro and Catlin Marie Jo “Katie Jo” Westmoreland of Mercer County; and two nephews, Gage Wren of Middlesboro and Tucker Lee Gene Westmoreland of Mercer Co.
The Lawrenceburg service was Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Perry officiating.
The Middlesboro service was Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at the Creech Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rains Cemetery in Middlesboro.
Casket bearers were Damien Hart, James Perry, Jeremy Mondelli, Greg Rinehart, Kyle Pike, Dakota Nicholson and Camron Wood.
Honorary bearers were Garnett Tucker, Danny Tucker, Joe Tucker, Robert Levy and Ernie Haden.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted military rites for George Haddix at Camp Nelson National Cemetery Aug. 10, 2007.
Those attending were Howard H. Howells Sr., Joe Harlow, Lucian Landers, Tom Rappleye, Floyd Shirley, James Tewmey and Earl Sherrow.
Zenah Teater III served as bugler.
Marine Corps representatives from the Lexingon Reserve were Sgt. James Bane and Sgt. T. J. Brown.
LORENE BLACK
Lorene Black, 89, of Danville, and Nashville, TN, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born in Parksville, the daughter of the late William Francis Nevius, Nellie Fuel Nevius, who died of typhoid fever when Lorene was 6 months old, and stepmother Essie Hungate Davis.
She l was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Danville. She was employed and retired from Servomation as commissary manager. She also worked as manager at Sam's in the 1950s and Palm Beach Co. and the Danville Laundry in the 1940s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C. “Curley” Black; one sister, Edna Goins;.and one brother, J.C. Nevius.
Survivors include: one son, Herbert Clifton "Cliff" Black of Danville, and Phyllis Edwards (Colonel Richard) Streiff of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Nicole Streiff (Patrick) McCoin M.D. of Nashville, TN, and Benjamin Clifton Black of Danville,; one great-granddaughter, Catherine Ann McCoin of Nashville, TN; a special niece, Nita (Don) Ball of Harrodsburg; and one brother, Todd Nevius of Danville.
Services were held Tuesday, August 21, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Ernest Martin officiating. Interment was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Patrick McCoin, Raymond Allen Preston, Darrell Preston, David Michael Ball, Happy Belcher, Derek Ball, Jay Anderson and Justin Ball.
Honorary pallbearers were Donald Ball and her beloved caregivers from the past 15 years, most notably Jennifer Biggs.
WAYNE DAVIS
Wayne Lawrence Davis, 53, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at his residence.
Born Sept. 29, 1953 in Rock Island, IL, he was the son of the late Henry Oren and Virginia Tunnell Davis, and was the husband of Marianne Malone Davis.
He was a retired Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife fishery biologist and was director of Mercer County Emergency Management.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Dawn Anne Davis of Harrodsburg; one son, Bill Davis of Union, KY, and formerly of Harrodsburg; and two sisters, Kay Wyssbrod and Barb Zimmerer both of Louisville, KY.
Services will be Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley officiating. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Bill Davis, Jeremy Shope, Spence Chitwood, Todd Collier, Don Pelley, Richie Bottoms, Jake Phillips, Tom Phillips, Mark Wyssbrod, and Robert Wyssbrod.

WILLIAM DEARING JR.
William G. Dearing Jr., 55, of Harrodsburg died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007 at his residence.
Born Feb. 24, 1952 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William G. and Thelma Bottoms Dearing.
He was a mechanic and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a bus driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, autoracing, Kentucky basketball and attending truck pulls.
Survivors include: one son, Michael Ray Henderson of Lexington; three sisters, Mary Bush, Janice (Keith) Albright and Wanda (Michael) Infield, all of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Omer (Rosalie) Drury of Harrodsburg, Stanley (Lisa) Drury of Warsaw, and Tony (Nancy) Dearing of Harrodsburg; fiancée, Phyllis Hampton of Harrodsburg; one grandson; one aunt, and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with Darrell Dearing, Gary Dearing, Nicole Drury, James Raymond Drury, Bryan Drury, Gary Peerce, James Peerce, Billy Peerce, David Smith, Tim Stinnett, Marvin Dearing, Keith Albright and Elwood Byrd serving as pallbearers.

ANNA DUNN
Anna Dunn, 94, of Danville, died Wed., August 15, 2007, at Harrodsburg Health Care.
Born June 14, 1913, in Marion County, she was a daughter of the late Woodson and Sally Hair Crain.
She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church, and the widow of Charles Dunn.
Survivors include: two sons, Jerry (Kay) Dunn of Danville and Leon (Rita) Dunn of Cincinnati, OH.
Private graveside funeral services were held on Friday, August 17, at Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.

HENRY DYKE
Henry Vernon Dyke, 89, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
He was the husband of the late Emily Hazelwood Dyke, and son of the late John Henry and Minnie Alice Abbott Dyke.
He was a farmer and carpenter; and a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church in Woodford County.
He is survived by: two daughters, Sue (John) Snider, Taylorsville; Phyllis (Jim) Bunce, Paris; one son, Larry Dyke, Salvisa; six grandchildren, Gregory Snider, Christopher Snider, Anne Clay Deville, Grant Marshall, April Wilhoite, and Steven Dyke; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 20, at Hebron Cemetery with Dr. Tommy Purvis officiating. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery.
Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, is in charge of arrangements.
JOSEPH FREEMAN
Joseph "Joe" Freeman, 55, of Burgin, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 14, 1951 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Garland and Margaret White Freeman, and was the husband of Dianna Freeman.
He was a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Scott (Rebecca) Freeman of Winchester; one daughter, Leticia (Ronnie) Lyons of Danville; one stepson, Dalton Hurst III of Burgin; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Stratton of Burgin; one sister, Margaret (Jerry) Gullett of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

KERMIT JUSTICE
Kermit B. Justice, 69, Waynesburg died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born April 4, 1938, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Loushel and Lizzie Baxter Justice, and was the husband of Clara Wilson Justice of Waynesburg.
He was a stone driller at Caldwell Stone Co. and was a member of Perryville Church of God.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, Russell B. (Diane) Justice of Junction City, Dallas M. (Betty) Justice of Williamsburg and Terry S. (Becki) Justice of Perryville; one daughter, Kimberly "Peanut" Miracle of Liberty; one brother, Shelby Justice of Waynesburg; three sisters, Lela McDonald of Harrodsburg, Betty Black of Ohio and Imogene Chumbley of Indiana; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Services will be Thursday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Edward "Buddy" Turpin and Don Burton officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eulless Justice, Dennis Justice, Paul Ray Justice, Tony Miracle and Chistopher McIntyre.
GEORGE PEAVLER
George Rodger "Rod" Peavler, 72, widower of Lou Anna Wohner Peavler, of Mackville died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A native of Washington County, he was born on March 9, 1935, to the late George Rucker and Ada Curtsinger Peavler.
He was a member of the Mackville Christian Church and a retired truck driver.
Survivors include: one son, Rodney Keith Peavler (Brenda) of Mackville; one daughter, Lisa Norton (Jerry) of Mackville; and two granddaughters, Dianna Norton and Melissa Norton, both of Mackville.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Ethel Mattingly on Feb. 3, 2005, and two half-brothers, Wood and Perry Curtsinger.
Services were held Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating. He was assisted by Tony Curtsinger.
Burial was in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.
Pallbearers were Carl Curtsinger, Tony Curtsinger, Terry Roney, Ernie Vinyard, Gary Rhodes and Ronnie Moore.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jim Powell, Jim Smith, Charles Turner, Kenneth Riley, Sam Stumph, Billy Joe Mattingly, Johnnie Phillips and J.D. Whitis.
WHEELER PHILLIPS
Wheeler “00” Phillips, 71, of Stanford, died Thursday, August 16, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 1, 1935, in Lincoln County to the late Joe Mack and Mattie Pearl Hale Phillips.
He was a farmer and carpenter.
Survivors include: his wife of over 50 years, Roberta Mae Lane Phillips of Stanford; three sons, Rocky Lee (Paula) Phillips, Jayme (Crystal) Phillips, and Rodman (Regina) Phillips, all of Stanford; four brothers, Robert Phillips of Harrodsburg, Elberta Phillips of Stanford, Alan Phillips of Grants Lick, KY, and Phil Phillips of Stanford; four sisters, Bessie Ellis of Harrodsburg, Juanita Noland of Crab Orchard, Janie Morgan of Louisville, and Lily Jesse of Amelia, Virginia; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 21, at the Fox Funeral Home, Stanford. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren.
WILLIAM ROUSEY
William S. Rousey, 81, of Stanford died Tuesday, Aug. 21.
He is survived by two daughters, Janice (Bill) Randolph of Harrodsburg and Sue (John) King of Stanford.
Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 24, at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m.

STEVEN SHELL
Steven Matthew Shell, age 53, husband of Geraldine Goins Shell of Georgetown, died Friday, August 17, 2007 at his home.
He was born April 15, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Lucille Brown Hughes, of Burgin, KY and the late Grover Shell.
In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by: two daughters; Bridget Shell (Johnny) and Brooke (Michael) Henson, both of Georgetown; three brothers, David Brown, Blanchester, OH, Kenneth Eugene Shell, Springfield, Mark Shell, Georgetown; a sister; Lora Lynn Shell, Burgin; and two grandchildren, Kassity Cooper and Alyson Henson.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 20, at the Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, Gergetown, with Rev. Gary McQuain officiating. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his brothers, Johnny Cooper, Michael Henson, Bobby Reed and Dr. Murkherjee.
Honorary bearers were Dr. Gus Bynum, Kenny Shell, Jenny Lou Shirley, and Henry Alexander.
