OMAR GILLUM

Omar Nicholas Gillum, 61, of 2140 Ami Lane, Lexington, died Monday, July 31, 2000 at the Winchester Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester.

Born January 27, 1939 in Jackson, he was the son of the late B. J. and Marie Miller Gillum.

He was a retired salesman for Casey Chevrolet and had served in the US Marine Corps.

Survivors include: one son, James (Alexis) Gillum, Covington; two daughters, Nichole (Hisham) Masry, Richmond and Lisa Rhoat, Ft. Pierce, FL; one brother, B. J. (Linda) Gillum, Lexington; two sisters: Harriett (Bob) Murphy, Lexington, Susie (Don) Freeman, Pembroke Pines, FL; two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

EVA McGUIRE

Eva Darland McGuire, 96, formerly of 475 North Main Street, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born December 8, 1903 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late William Lee and Ivona Cornish Darland. She was the widow of Henry McGuire.

She was a homemaker, a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Widow to Widow and the Mercer County Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: five sons, Ralph and Vernon McGuire, Harrodsburg; Keith McGuire, Clarksville, IN; Eugene McGuire, Mt. Sterling, Leslie McGuire, Louisville; three daughters, Pauline (Charles) Caine, Louisville, LaVerne (C. W.) Grider, Harrodsburg, Irene Harlow, Burgin; two brothers, William "Bill" (Bessie) Darland, Harrodsburg, Leroy (Anna Marie) Darland, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Alma (Henry) Black and Jean (A. D.) Vanarsdale, both of Harrodsburg; 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: three sons, James, John Henry, Jr. and Kenneth Lee McGuire; one daughter, Mary Evelyn McGuire,; two grandchildren, John Sidney McGuire, Carla Jane Cheak; four brothers, Onus, Marshall, Norvie and Elwood Darland; three sisters, Jessie Merriman, Stella Ray Reeves and Minnie Scott.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 3, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbeares will be Chuck Caine, Tony McGuire, James W. McGuire, Jr., Tim Springate, Jimmy Clark Springate II, Travis McGuire, and Willian T. Caine.

Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

LILLIAN PHILLIPS

Lillian Taylor Phillips, 91, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, July 10, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born October 10, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Samuel Clinton and Amanda Taylor. She was the widow of Ernest L. Phillips Sr.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lexington and a former member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.

She retired from Eastern State Hospital and was an active member of the Lexington Senior Citizens Center and the Bell House.

Survivors include: one son, Ernest L. (Donna) Phillips Jr., Salvisa; two daughters, Rebecca (Daniel) Adams, Waynesburg, and Joyce (Donnie) Woolums, Richmond, IN; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three children, Catherine McCoy, Thomas L. Phillips and John C. Phillips.

Funeral services were at Trinity Baptist Church with burial at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

BETTY BAUGH

Betty Ann Baugh, 68, of 506 Bowman Street, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at her residence.

Born May 17, 1932 in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late George and Mattie Lane.

She was a homemaker and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Roy Melvin Baugh, Harrodsburg; one son, Danny Klaess, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Crystal Curtsinger, Harrodsburg; one step son, Roy Baugh, Mt. Vernon; one step daughter, Georgia Hartman, Junction City; one brother, Howard Lane, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August, 4, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, and after 7:30 a.m. Friday, at the funeral chapel.

HOPIE CARTER

Hopie Edith Logue Carter, 75, South Fork, Kentucky, formerly of Nicholasville and Crain Town, Kentucky, widow of Huite Lee Carter, Sr., has departed after a long illness.

Mrs. Carter lived a fulfilling life that was expressed through her love of and dedication to God and her family. Mrs. Carter devoted a great portion of her life to her music ministry. She composed music and lyrics for many gospel songs, as well as performed them at various locations and on radio programs throughout Kentucky. In addition to her own performances, she was honored by the performance of her music by other groups and individuals. Her music ministry was highlighted by a special recognition bestowed on her by the Kentucky House of Representatives for her talents and contributions to music in the state of Kentucky.

Hopie Edith Logue Carter was an active member of the South Fork Baptist Church and past member of Nicholasville Baptist Church in Nicholasville, Kentucky. She was also a member of The Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, past President of the McKinney Homemakers, and founding member of the Fork and Mountain Homemakers organization.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harrison Terrance Logue, her mother, Lydia Camden Logue, brothers, Hobart Logue and Elmer Logue, sisters, Fronia Logue Webb, Virginia Logue Barnes, Faye Logue Hornsby, Gertrude Logue Milburn, and Florence Logue Carpenter.

She is survived in death by her three sons, Huite L. Carter, Jr., Jeffrey Byron Carter, and Randy Logue Carter: three daughters in law, Deborah Tevis Carter, Lora Shaffer Carter, and Lisa Fluty Carter: six grand children Patrick Ryan, Andrew Harrison, Debora Allison, Shelby Marie, Alex Logue, and Macy Elizabeth Carter; three sisters, Fannie Lou Logue Southerland, Ella Mae Logue Burns, and Hallie Dee Logue Lanham and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Hopie Edith Logue Carter will be remembered by her love, tenderness, and care she gave to others during her life. Pd. Adv.

KENNETH DEWITT

Kenneth O. Dewitt, 64, of 1765 Harrodsburg Rd., Lawrenceburg, died Friday, August 4, 2000, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Born May 3, 1936 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Rosco O. and Madge Mae Ashby Dewitt.

He was a former truck driver and a former security guard with the Capital City Police.

He was a former coach with the Anderson County Youth Baseball & Basketball, a member of the Independent Political Party and a member of the Lawrenceburg McDonald’s Coffee Club.

Survivors include: his wife of nine years, Becky Downs Dewitt; one son, Johnny (Paula) Dewitt, Frankfort; one step-son, Brandon Livers, Shelbyville; two step daughters, Regina and Bridget Livers, both of Shelbyville; one sister, Rosetta Sue Cuddy, Harrodsburg; one grandson. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronny K. Dewitt; two brothers, Rosco E. and Willis Thomas Dewitt.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 6, at the Ritchie-Peach-Todd Funeral Home with Bro. Bob C. Jones officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kevin Detherage, Doug Detherage, Billy Peach, Larry Peak, Dwight Andrews, Larry Robinson, and Timmy Peavler.

EDNA SHEARER

Edna Marie Shearer, 91, of 509 Marimon Ave., died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born August 19, 1908 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Loina Gritton Scrogham. She was the widow of George Shearer.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Brinkley, Gene Lawson, Scott Moseley, Kevin Perkins, Jim Hogue and Jim Ingram.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

JACK COOK

Jack Samuel Cook Sr., 58, of 450 Agee Street, died Friday, August 4, 2000 at his residence.

Born February 3, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, MO, he was the son of the late George and Pearl Hilderbrand Cook.

He was a retired truck driver for Laidlaw Environmental Service, a US Army Vietnam Veteran, a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of both the VFW and DAV.

Survivors include: his wife, Juanita Jean Goforth Cook, Harrodsburg; one son, Jack Samuel Cook Jr., Lexington; one step son, James Lathery, Lexington; two daughters, Wendy Michelle Yanochack, SD and Dawn Raylene Hubert, Salix, IA; two step daughters, Pauletta Best, Lexington, April Finch, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, five step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 7, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randy Tackett, Eddie Reed, Jr., Michael Taylor, Jim Taylor, Gary Lay and Kenneth Meredith. Honorary bearers were Bob Baker, Leroy Darland, John Hawes, C. W. Grider, and the deacons of Fellowship Baptist Church.

MARY SHOUSE

Mary Lena Cox Shouse, 85, of 425 Clay Lick Church Road, Salvisa, died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort.

A native of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Leona Overstreet Cox. She was the widow of Samuel S. Shouse.

She was a former employee of Dean & Shirk Thread Factory and a member of Clay Lick United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, James (Patsy) Shouse, Salvisa; one daughter, Anna Pearl Crouch, Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Lizzie Robinson, Salvisa, Arabella Cox, and Margaret Spaulding, both of Lawrenceburg; 12 grandchildren, six step grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Rucker; five brothers, Tom, Jim, Ambrose, Willie and Leanious Cox; three sisters, Beatrice Simmon, Viola Smith and Nora Taylor.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jerry Dedman officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keith Shouse, Jeremy Rucker, James Michael Yates, Gill, Danny, and Chad Crouch. Honorary bearers were Larry Crouch, Vickie Dedman, Marcella Laytart, Mike Yates, Regina Coulter, Debbie Warner, Marcelene Springate, Kathy White and Pam Kennedy.

DOLLY DAVENPORT

Dolly Gill Davenport, 86, of Ft. Wright, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, July 20, 2000.

She was a retired Registered Nurse for St. Elizabeth Hospital North, in Covington, a member of Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills, and a member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington.

She was an avid bridge player and married 60 years.

Survivors include: her husband, George Davenport, Ft. Wright, formerly of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Dinah Deye, Ft. Wright, and Cathy Johnson, Memphis, TN; four grandchildren; one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 24, at the Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th Street, Covington, KY 41014.

Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, was in charge of arrangements.
