Lauretta Parker Black, 87, died Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Pine Meadows Health Care.
A native of Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Nannie Ingram. She was the widow of Rev. Jeff Quincy Parker and Robert Lincoln Black.
She was a member of Lee Chapel AME Church, Cincinnati, OH, where she served as a member of the Missionary Society and Stewardess Board.
She was retired from Kenner Mfg., and was a member of Dorcas Chapter #29 of the OES, Lexington, and the Burgin Independent Benevolent Lodge.
Survivors include: one daughter, Gladys P. Hyde, Lexington; one son, James (Alverrine "Dimp") Parker, Grand Rapids, MI; one son-in-law, Leon B. Lewis; three step children, John (Edna) Black, Anthony Black and Louise Poindexter; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren, and a number of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vera Jean Lewis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 12, at Quinn Chapel AME Church, Lexington, with Rev. E. Holmes, Jr. and Rev. Donald E. Newberry, Sr. officiating. Burial was in Robinson Road Cemetery in Burgin.
O. L. Hughes & Sons Mortuary, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.
MARY HEATH
Mary "Katie" Heath, 100, of Louisville, formerly of Mercer County, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.
Born April 5, 1900 in Mercer County, she was the fifth of 10 children born to the late William Coleman and Martha Jane Watts Matherly. She was the widow of Miles E. Heath.
She was a retired school teacher after 40 years with the Mercer and Muhlenburg County school systems, and a graduate of the Eastern Teachers Normal School, Richmond.
She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Minnie Matherly Whittaker, Louisville; four nieces, Mary Jane Windsor, Bellevue, OH, Lee Etta Wilkinson, Plymouth, MI, Shirley Whittaker and Glenna Whittaker, both of Louisville; and one nephew, Charles William Matherly, Danville.
Graveside services were held Friday, August 11, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Carl Townsend officiating.

ARLAN GILLIS
Arlan Eugene Gillis, 72, of 4000 Louisville Rd., Frankfort, died Saturday, August 12, 2000 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.
Born August 5, 1928 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Hansford R. and Willmina Drury Gillis.
He was a self-employed truck driver, an army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Christian denomination.
Survivors include: his wife, Juanita Gillis, Frankfort; two sons, Larry Gillis, Gray, TN and Grady Gillis Frankfort; two daughters, Donna Warner and Judy Goodlett, both of Frankfort; one sister, Minda Shelton, Lawrenceburg; one brother Connie Gillis, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Frankfort with Rev. Everett Hawkins and Rev. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Woodford County. Military honors were conducted at the graveside by members of VFW Post #4075 of Frankfort.
Pallbearers were Terry Grider, Gary Grider, Richard Howard, Mark Moore, Steve Shelton, Troy Grider and Chuck Crittenden. Honorary bearers were Jerel Warner, Michael Gillis, Jason Goodlett and Jamie Goodlet.

GILBERT HAYSLETT
Gilbert "Gil" Hayslett, 80, of 729 Greenville Street, died Monday, August 14, 2000 at his residence.
Born November 5, 1919 in Cornwall, VA, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Mary Ann Elkins.
He was the owner of Hayslett Mechanical Contractors Inc., since 1947. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Historical Society, the Mercer County Humane Society and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He served in the Army Air Corps from January 10, 1942 to November 10, 1945.
Survivors include: his wife, Albertine Robinson Hayslett, Harrodsburg; one son, Don Hayslett, Harrodsburg; one step son, Mike Patterson, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Abby Sallee, Harrodsburg; one brother, Clyde Hayslett, Burgin; four grandchildren, two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, William, Fred and Joseph Hayslett Jr; a half sisteer, Josephine Parlow, and a sister, Della Coleman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with James Harley, John Short and Joseph Vest officiating. Burial will be in the Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Danny Collier, Norman Hughes, G. B. "Boo" Royalty, Billy Burchett, Kevin Dobbs, Paul Romans and Warren Stratton. Honorary bearers will be employees of Hayslett Mechanical Contractors and employees of Western Kentucky Gas.
BESSIE SATTERLY
Bessie Satterly, 60, of 115 South Second Street, Burgin, died Saturday, August 12, 2000 at her residence.
Born May 29, 1940 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late John Riley and Grace Lowry Gibson Hammons.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: one son, Jackie Coleman Satterly, Burgin; two daughters, Tina Hill and Deborah Bush, both of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Jackie Hammons, Harrodsburg, Bobby Hammons, Lexington, and Jimmy and David Gibson, both of Burgin; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Hammons and a sister, Daisy Stitt.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
AMANDA POWER
Amanda Jane Ingram Power, 80, Beaumont Avenue, Lexington, died Monday, August 14, 2000 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born January 1, 1920 in Olympia Springs, (Salt Lick) she was a daughter of the late John Ingram and Callie Blevins.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two daughters, Nicky Gillum, Lexington and Rita (Stanley) Long, Salvisa; one sister, Virgie Hall, Kissimee, FL; two half brothers, John Ingram, Jr., and Raymond Ingram, three half sisters, Alberta Pergram, Delores Wills and Geneva Hunt; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Callie Daum.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 17, at W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland by Rev. Rick Landon. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

CHARLES BRAMMER
Charles Ernest "Ernie" Brammer, 41, of Burgin, formerly of Xenia and South Charleston, OH, died Sunday, August 13, 2000 at Herrington Lake.
Born March 6, 1959 in Maysville, he was the son of Charles and Helen (Hall) Brammer.
He had worked as a farmer most of his life.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: a daughter, Holly Lynn Brammer, Xenia, OH; one step son, James Matthew Clevelle, Xenia, OH; one brother, Benjamin (Tracy) Brammer, Xenia, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, August 19, at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, OH, with Rev. Ken Schartz officiating. Private burial was held in Mount Zion Park Cemetery, Beavercreek, OH.
BILLY CORNWELL
Billy R. Cornwell, 57, of Jeffersontown, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at Suburban Hospital in Louisville.
Born February 15, 1943 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Ruby Beckum Cornwell.
He was a mechanic for Royal Muffler, a member of Mt. Eden Masonic Lodge, a member , deacon and Sunday School teacher at Hopewell Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Charlotte Blandford Cornwell, Jeffersontown; one son, Brian Cornwell; one daughter, Stacey Durbin; one brother, Frank Cornwell, Scarboro, ME; two sisters, Kathy Dearner and Margaret Ann Brown; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, at Foreman Funeral Home, 10600 Taylorsville Road, Jeffersontown. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville.

MILDRED HUFF
Mildred Long Huff, 83, of 371 Runyon Road, died Sunday August 20, 2000 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born in Mercer County, April 19, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charlie D. and Iva Mae Corn Long.
She was a retired beautician, had retired from Cricketeer Manufacturing Co., and was a Kentucky Colonel.
She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Survivors include: her husband, James Byron Huff, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Teresa Huff Bringardner, Cocoa Beach, FL and Sheila Huff Dean, Harrodsburg; one brother, Loman Long, AR; three sisters, Bonnie McRay and Virginia Emmetsberger, both of Louisville and Marie McRay, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorna Jean Huff and one sister, Rose Long.
A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, August 22, at St. Andrew Catholic Church by Father Joseph Muench. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alan Goss, Rickie Hill, Thomas Lee Jr., Tony Dean, Tom Denny and Jim McGlone.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Andrew Catholic Church Building Fund.

JAMES NIELD
James Kenneth Nield, 73, of Port Orchard, WA, died December 18, 1999 in Monroe, WA.
Born November 28, 1926 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James O. and Virgie Ross Nield.
He was a retired ABC Rentals auto mechanic, past president of the Machinist Lodge in Everett, WA for many years and had built several race cars and raced them at Sky Valley and Skagin Speedways in Washington.
He was a US Army Air Corps veteran and served in the Philippines.
Survivors include: his wife, Yvonne (Laprecia) Perry Nield; one son, Terry Nield, Arlington, WA; one daughter, Shirley Tilford, West Lafayette, IN; one brother, Norman Nield, Danville; two sisters, Margaret Weldon, Danville and Juanita Perry; five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Spring Hill Cemetery with T. Henry Johnson officiating.
