Harold Boyd, 83, of Danville, formerly of Stanford, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, in Danville.
Born Feb. 26, 1924, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late John Henry Boyd and Plina R. Baker Boyd and was the husband of Ida C. Jenkins Boyd.
He was a farmer, handyman, a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a World War II Navy Veteran.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Wendell Boyd of Dover, TN; five grandchildren, Todd Boyd of Moreland, Doug Darland and Trish Claunch, both of Harrodsburg, A. J. Young of Benton, and Nick Ryan of Clarksville, TN and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Pastor Donald Garland officiating.
Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors by the US Naval Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Todd Boyd, Doug Darland, Chester Kavanaugh, Joe Thomas, JT Thomas, and Clifton Boyd.

R. C. COSLOW
Robert Charles “R. C.” Coslow, 78, of Willisburg, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 at his residence.
Born July 8, 1929 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Lee and Mattie Ross Coslow and was the husband of Alma Baker Coslow.
He was a member of the Willisburg Church of Christ, a retired farmer and an army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Marilyn Coslow of Harrodsburg and Denise (Mark) Terrell of Willisburg and two grandsons, Derek and David Terrell, both of Willisburg.
The funeral was held Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Burnice Richardson officiating.
Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery with full military rites by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were David Coslow, Lonnie Thompson, Jerry Darland, Joe Cain, Hughes Coslow and Shirley Yeast.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons.
VERNA DEVINE
Verna Devine, 57, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007 at her home.
Born March 19, 1950 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late G. C. and Shannon (Wilson) Farney and was the wife of Thomas “Tom” Devine.
She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper having worked at Danville High School & the Mercer County Schools Guidance Office.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Kristen Nicole Devine of Lexington; three sisters, Virginia Lou Camic of Danville, Patsy Harshbarger of Tampa, FL, and Rose Brogli of Raleigh, NC; one step son, Doug Devine of Satellite Beach, FL; one step daughter, Cari Perkins of Harrodsburg and four step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roma Jean Reed and Marlene Early.
The funeral was Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bud Brogli and Don Harshbarger officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Dennis Tyler, David Taylor, Larry Peyton, Jimmy Overall, Genie Sims, and Larry Cotton.

ORPHA HAWKINS
Orpha Pearl Hawkins, 77, of Springfield, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 at the Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.
She was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Jessie Darnell Yates.
Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Hawkins and Jenny Peters of FL; two sons, Stanley Glenn Hawkins of Nicholasville and James Anthony Hawkins of TX; five sisters, Nettie Lanham and Betty Royalty of Springfield, Mary Mattingly of Louisville, Margaret Mercer of Versailles and Edna Wetherby of Ft. Gaines, FL and one brother, Kenneth (Bud) Yates of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas (Tim), Harvey and Joseph Yates and a sister, Vena Stine.
The funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
LOUISE JOHNSON
Louise Beckley Johnson, 92, of Winchester, formerly of Lexington, widow of Ishmael Johnson, died on Saturday November 17, 2007 at the Winchester Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Estill County on July 18, 1915 to the late John and Seafronia Stewart Beckley.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Lexington.
Survivors include: four daughters, Emma Crowe of Lexington, Betty Aubrey and Brenda Potts of Winchester, and Joyce Carter of Cincinnati; seven sons, Howard Johnson of Falmouth, Donnie Johnson of Harrodsburg, Delmer Johnson of Paris, Billy Johnson and James Johnson of Winchester, Elmer Johnson of Heath, OH, and Bobby Johnson of Charlotte, NC; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Flannery of Estill County and Lizzie Couch of Dayton, OH; two brothers, Ward Beckley of TN and Omer Beckley of Estill County.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Eliza Noe and Fannie Noe, and four brothers, Willie, Eddie, Ancel and Elba Beckley.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 19, at the Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester by Rev. Henry Johnson. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Johnson's grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be the Winchester Center for Health and Rehabilitation nurses and staff.
SHARON PERRIN
Sharon Kaye Perrin, 43, of Mt. Vernon died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born in Harrodsburg Sept. 19, 1964, she was the daughter of Clarence Griffin of Crab Orchard and the late Mattie Treadway Griffin.
She was a certified nursing assistant.
Survivors include: her husband, James Lynn Perrin; two sons, John Ryan of Crab Orchard and Joey Miller of Orlando; a daughter, Evelyn Warren of Somerset; six grandchildren, John Ryan Jr., Kaitlyn Polston, Sara Ryan, Aliza Johnson, and Jeremiah and Clayton Nathaniel Powell.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Dale Griffin.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at First Baptist Church of Yosemite by the Rev. Joe Warren and Rev. Gene Gentry. Burial was in First Baptist Church of Yosemite Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jamie Perrin, Eric Penix, Kenny and Kevin Griffin, Gary Wayne King and Kenny Miller.
Bartle Funeral Home, Liberty, was in charge of arrangements.
CHRISTINE PONTRICH
Christine Rae Drury Pontrich, 76, of Lawrenceburg died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at her residence.
She was born May 2, 1931 in Mercer County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Everett and Ruby Yates Drury. She was the widow of James Nolan Pontrich.
She was a homemaker, an avid Conway Twitty fan and a member of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church.
She is survived by: two grandchildren, D. J. Kinder and Kim (Todd) Piatt of Lawrenceburg; two great-granddaughters, Christa and Taylor Piatt of Lawrenceburg; son-in-law, David F. Kinder of Lawrenceburg; step son, James L. (Virinia L.) Pontrich of Shelbyville; a sister, Lovena (John Henry) Disponett of Lawrenceburg; a brother, Donald Drury of Lawrenceburg; two nieces, Roxie Rowland and Patsy Kearns of Lawrenceburg; two nephews, Glen Drury of Lawrenceburg and Ricky Drury of Winchester.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 20, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Rev. Crystal McAliley officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
JOHN SMITH JR.
John Wiley Smith, Jr., 81, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born in McAfee, he was the son of the late John Wiley and the late Laura (Jones) Smith, Sr. and widower of the late Ella Bell Allen Smith.
He was a graduate of West Side High School, a former employee of Royalty-Keightley Lumber Co., a member of the Salvisa Methodist Church and was a WWII Army veteran.
Survivors include: five sons, John (Jean) Wiley Smith, Steven Smith, Cecil (Beverly) Smith, Joey (Loretta) Smith all of Harrodsburg and Don (Carol) Smith of Danville; one daughter, Loretta (Robert) Bean of Harrodsburg and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Bradshaw and Jennie Bartleson.
The funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at the St. Peter AME Church with Bro. Ralph Smith and Elder J.D. Short III officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery with military rites.
Pallbearers were Alvis Johnson, John Mitchell, C.L. Bartleson, James Payne, Andy Harris, Robert Harris, Sam Wheat, and Jose’ Walker.
Honorary pallbearers were James Williams, James Royalty, Remont Mays, Charles Dunn, Duke Dunn, and Marvin Swan.
The Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
BOBBIE SPAULDING
Bobbie Ann Spaulding, 60, wife of Robert “Sonny” Spaulding, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Lucille Wafford.
She was a secretary for the Fayette County Public Schools, a member of Northeast Christian Church and the Bible Study Fellowship.
Survivors, other than her husband, include: two daughters, Lori Turner (Chuck) Bowen, Lexington, and Missy Turner (Thomas) Browning, Lexington; three grandchildren, Braeden Lee Bowen, Brinlee Ann Bowen and Jacob Thomas Browning; and a brother, Phillip Wafford, Salvisa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, at NorthEast Christian Church by the Rev. John Hampton, the Rev. Steve Idle, the Rev. Greg Horn and the Rev. Monte Wilkinson. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Claude F. Cobb, Sr., Claude F. Cobb, Jr., Anthony May, Onis Puckett, Joe Spaulding and Bill Wilson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

SHERILYN ADAMS
Sherilyn Annette Adams, Raleigh, NC, 16 year old daughter of Laura and Tony Adams, formerly of Mercer County, died Wednesday November 14, 2007 at her home after a nearly five year battle with Leukemia (AML).
Sherilyn was a sophomore at Middlebrook High School where she was an excellent student when she came out of remission for the second time on February 6, 2007. Sherilyn was a member of the high school chorus and was very artistic. Her artwork was chosen for designs for cards to be sold to benefit Duke Children's Hospital where she was treated. Sherilyn was first diagnosed on February 6, 2003, was found to be out of remission on December 6, 2004, received a bone marrow transplant March 8, 2005, and relapsed again on February 6, 2007. Sherilyn attended elementary school in Rowan County, KY and in Raleigh and middle School in Raleigh.
Besides her parents, she is survived by: siblings, Veronica, Dustin, Nicolette and Drew Adams; grandparents, Jerry and Mary Ann Hanson and Clay and Ann Milton Adams of Mercer County; her stepmother, Mari Adams; great grandmother, Madelyn Adams; and paternal aunts and uncles, Stephanie Adams (John Sawaf), Shawn (Chris) Keegan, Shane Adams (Sharon Bowman), and Seth Adams (Molly McCaskey); and maternal uncle and aunts, Carl Hanson, Eileen, Maureen, Katie, Julie and Colleen.
A memorial service was held at Grace Community Church, 6561 Meridien Drive, Raleigh on Tuesday, November 27.

HUGH BLACK
Hugh Edward Black, 90, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born July 15, 1917 in Bohon, he was the son of the late Shannon and Bessie Steele Black and was the husband of Mildred Hayes Black.
He served during World War II in the Navy, was a former employee of Bruce Hale Home Improvements, Coleman’s Lumber Yard and Royalty & Keightley and a member of the Bohon Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Kenneth R. Black and Ricky Wayne Black of Harrodsburg; one sister, Nora Lee Perkins of Danville; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Freddie & Eddie Black.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating.
Pallbearers are: Sherman McMichael, Tim Kidd, Tim Horn, Buddy Isham, Jack Freeman.
Visitation Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday prior to service.
MARGARET BRADSHAW
Margaret Ann Bradshaw, 45, of Harrodsburg, died Nov. 23, 2007 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
She was born Dec. 19, 1961 in Mercer County.
She was a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Tiarra and Tifanee Bradshaw; one brother, Robert Bradshaw; one uncle, James Robert Payne; one great-aunt, Margaret Cockran of Burgin, and one niece.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 at St. Peters with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in Robinson-Roe Cemetery in Burgin.
Pallbears were Tim Patrick, Emmanuel Young, Lamont Lenton, Kendall Patton, Kevin Jones and Melvin Yates.
Honorary pallbearers were Earl Harris Jr., Michael Vandyke, Freddie Mendez, John T. Mays, Fred Bottoms Jr., and Gary Walker.
HESTER COX
Hester J. Cox, 81, of Junction City, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in Boyle County.
Born February 13, 1926 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Annie B. Gill Naylor.
Hester was a member of Junction City Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Cox Sr.
Survivors include: three sons, Earl Cox Jr. of Stanford, Darrell Wayne Cox and Roger Cox, both of Junction City; two daughters Anna Mae Gay of Lancaster and Lisa Jane Cox of Harrodsburg; two granddaughters Bridgett Cox and Lourenda Lark; four great-grandchildren Nicholas and Katherine Lark, Haley and Lanita Wilson.
Funeral services were held at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home Saturday, November 24, with Rev. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.
J. D. DARLAND
J. D. Darland, 78, Lexington, husband of Dolores Conrad Darland for 53 years, died Saturday November 24.
Born June 11, 1929 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Grover and Florence Darland.
J. D. was a member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church for 35 years and a member of the Kings Class. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Engle Construction Co. for 31 years. Not caring for retirement, he became an independent truck driver for 15 years.
Additional survivors include: three children; Dale (Ann) Darland, Jeff (Karen) Darland and Janet (Jack) Goldthorpe and grandchildren, Jamie & Justin Darland, Conley & Claire Darland, & Megan Goldthorpe; two sisters, Nancy (Maurice) Long and Mary Lou Darland; and a brother-in-law Jimmie (Betty) Conrad.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys and Lorene.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, November 27, at Milward-Southland, in Lexington
