ANNA EADES

Anna Louise Renfroe Eades, "Nan", 74, Bayberry Rd., Versailles, formerly of Lexington, died at her home Saturday, January 14, 2006.

She was the daughter of the late H. B. and Olga Renfroe, and the widow of James P. Eades.

She was a member of the Southside Christian Church in Harrodsburg. She retired from General Electric lamp plant.

Survivor include: one daughter, Susan Diane Eades Hoskins, Versailles; two sons, Jim P. (Sharon) Eades Jr., Hendersonville, TN, and Dan Allen (Connie) Eades, Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Eades (served in Iraq), Erin Kyle Eades and Cameron Eades, Hendersonville, TN, Jessica Eades Turner (and Scottie), Cicero, IN, Travis Eades, Las Vegas, NV, Brittani Stamper, Southpoint, OH, and Brian and Joshua Stamper, Harrodsburg; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis "Lexi" Marie Turner, Cicero, IN. She is also survived by one brother, Ray Renfroe, Lexington; and three sisters; Rosalie Fister, and Marilyn Murphy, both of Lexington, and Edna Nelson, Crossville, TN.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Renfroe, Lexington, and a sister, Carolyn Renfroe, Olive Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 16, at the funeral home.

Visitation will be Sunday , January 15, from 3-8 p.m. and Monday, from 12 noon - 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

The grandsons, along with Jeremy Willis and Scottie Turner, will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504

BRUCE GAMMAGE
Bruce H. Gammage, 65, of Miami, FL, died Sunday, January 8, 2006.

Survivors include: his wife, Joy Gammage, Harrodsburg; one son, Christian Fenex, Palm City, FL; one brother, Albert Gammage, TX.

A celebration of Bruce's life was held at Peacock Park, Coconut Grove, FL on January 12, 2006.

The family suggests donations to the Humane Society.

OPAL HOCKENSMITH
Opal Hockensmith, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1921 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Nealy and Debbie Floren McDaniel and the widow of Onie Hockensmith.

She was a former nursing assistant at the Kentucky State Hospital. She and her husband also owned and operated Hockensmith Grocery in Burgin for 16 years. She was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, reading her Bible and was an avid Univeristy of Kentucky sports fan.

Survivors include: two sons, Ronnie (Linda) Hockensmith of Harrodsburg and Phillip (Dee Dee) Hockensmith of Mercer County; three daughters, Doris (Don) Bugg of Burgin, Sue (Richard) Lewis and Debbie (John) Pinkston, both of Mercer County; one half-sister, Christine Baker of Versailles; three half-brothers, William McDaniel of Versailles, Sterling McDaniel of Lawrenceburg and Leonard McDaniel of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Hocken-smith, and one half-brother, Eugene McDaniel. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Geoff Barrett officiating. Interment was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Chad Pinkston, Shawn Hockensmith, Phillip Hockensmith II, Justin Lilly, Blake Sexton and Michael Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Joseph Sexton and Jeremy Phillips.

SHIRLEY HORN

Shirley Jean Black Horn, 67, of Danville, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at her home.

Born October 9, 1938, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Henry W. and Alma G. Darland Black of Harrodsburg.

She was a bookkeeper for Horn Ford Tractor Sales in Danville and Danville Stockyards. She was a member of Salt River Baptist Church and a graduate of Mercer County High School. She was the widow of Harold Horn.

Survivors include: one son, Brian P. Horn, Danville; two daughters, Carol Howard, Campbellsville, and Shawna Stomberger, Danville; one sister, Donna Bell, Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Dwaine Horn.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, at Salt River Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to Salt River Baptist Church.

ELIZABETH JAMES
Elizabeth Hungate Yates James, 80, of Roanoke, AL, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 in Roanoke.

Born Sept. 20, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Henry K. and Hester Sims Yates and the widow of John H. James Jr.

She was the former owner and operator of The James House Antiques and a partner in the Pioneer One-Hour Cleaners. She had been a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, the Harrodsburg Women¹s Club and the Mercer County Fair and Horse Show board.

Survivors include: two granddaughters, Jaymie Durham Ross of Danville and Caribeth Durham Brown of Roanoke, AL, and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Ross of Danville and Emilie Brown of Roanoke.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Cassandra “Cassie” James Durham.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donnie McCrosky, Bill Johnson, Jack Leonard, Jimmy Dean, Joe Mike Wilder, Danny Matherly, Bill Curry and Donald Ray Fisher. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Fisher, Barry Vandivier, Bronson Yeast and Mickey Ragland.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Harrods-burg Christian Church Building Fund and Heritage Hospice.

CLARENCE JOHNSON
Clarence H. Johnson, 60, of Jeffersonville, IN, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Clark Memo-rial Hospital in Jeffersonville.

A native of Harlan County, he was the son of the late Clem and Evelyn Johnson and the husband of Terisha Johnson.

He worked for 30 years for Kern’s Bakery and most recently worked for nine years for Little Debbie. He was a Mason, a Kentucky Colonel and an avid University of Kentucky fan.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Steve Johnson of Jeffersonville, IN and Earl (Chris) Dever of Floyds Knobs, IN; two daughters, Nancy (Gary) Yeager of Harrodsburg and Nikki (Matt) Taylor of Clarksville, IN; one brother, Dale (Sylvia) Johnson of Kentucky, and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Joe Johnson. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Harley officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Diabetes Foundation.

WILLIAM LEFFEW

William Leffew, 73, of Parksville, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Dec. 31, 1932, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Andrew T. and Ida Bell Vaught Leffew.

He was a retired self-employed stone mason, and a member of Mitchellsburg Baptist Church, Harvey Maguire Lodge 209 and Oleika Shrine Temple. He also was pianist for the morning service at Mitchellsburg Baptist Church and the evening service at Mitchellsburg Church of God.

Survivors include: his wife, Edith Floyd Leffew; two daughters, Lois Adrio, Mitchellsburg, and Fredia Leffew, Lexington; one brother, Lewis "Cotton" Leffew, Danville; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two children, Betty Jeter and Tommy Leffew.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 13, at the Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, by Rev. Dan Johnson and Rev. Larry Moore. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Randy Phillips, Byron Baker, Ron Dotson, Troy Qualls, Jerry and Edwin Leffew.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice.

JAMES LEWIS
James A. Lewis, 84, of Ridgeway Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 2, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Goldie and Minnie Robinson Lewis and the husband of Gladys Currens Lewis.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a mechanic for Ingraham’s Buick Chevrolet and Huff and McCrystal Garage. He was also a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, JoAnn (James “Butch”) Merchant of Harrodsburg; one son, Bobby (Brenda) Lewis of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Randall Lewis of Lawrence-burg, Goldie Lewis, Goodloe Lewis and Marvin Lewis, all of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall and Cleo Lewis.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 15 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Michael West and Danny Wiley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry Currens, Keith Currens, Jeff Currens, Ricky Lewis, Randy Lewis and Haldon Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Kelly Currens, Lenny Currens, Lee Currens Jr., Todd Currens, Kevin Currens, Johnny Currens and David Smock.

LOYD MAYES JR.

Loyd Mayes Jr., 78, of Lexington, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Ovie and Loyd Mayes Sr. and the husband of Gay Harris Mayes.

He was a retired real estate broker and a member of Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, L. Wayne (Kay) Mayes and Dennis (Rheda) Mayes; one daughter, Susan (Dale) Yates; one step-daughter, Susan (Louis) Muldrow; two step-sons, Robert (Lynn) Purdom and Philip Purdom; five grandchildren, one step-grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one step-son, Tony Purdom. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Harrods-burg. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

LOUISE PULLIAM
Louise M. Pulliam, 72, of Bob-O-Link Drive, died Thurs-day, Jan. 12, 2006 at her home.

Born May 30, 1933 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Merlin Black Million and the widow of Henry M. Pulliam III.

She was a retired Mercer County Elementary School teacher and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, and she attended the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara (George) Buckner of Louisville; two sons, Marty (Mary) Pulliam of Stanford and Woody Pulliam of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Buckner, and Elizabeth and Sarah Katherine Pulliam; two step-grandsons, John and Chris Ray, and one step great-granddaughter, Kali Ray.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 16 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dennis Ballard, Tim Ellis, Chad Ellis, Kenneth Meredith, Keith Cloud and Allen Hendren.

ANN SOPER

Ann Gorley Soper, 58, of Sycamore Street, Danville, died Sunday January 15, 2006 at her home.

Born March 16, 1947, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Clarice Arnold Gorley. She was a retired nurse with American Nursing Care and a member of Sycamore Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, John Smith, Danville, and Shane Smith, Salvisa; one daughter, Angel Wilburn; Junction City; three brothers, Billy and David Gorley, both of Forkland, and Gary Gorley, Danville; her companion, Mike Soper of Danville; and three granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by Lee Arnold.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may go to Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge.

VELMA WALLS

Velma Catherine Walls, 69, of Wilson Ridge Road, Liverty, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born November 30, 1936, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Flossie Bryant Smither.

She was a homemaker and farmer, and a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include: her husband, Harrison E. "J. R." Walls; two sons, Earl G. Walls and Terry L. Walls, both of Liberty; five brothers, Burrell Smither, Franklin, IN, Richard Smither Jr. and Steve Smither, both of Liberty, Gary Smither, Lexington and Ronnie Smither of New Port Richey, FL; three sisters, Burrneatha Edwards, Anderson, IN, Wanda Ponder, Harrodsburg, and Javana Short, Liberty; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, January 17, at Bartle Funeral Home, Liberty, by Arlen R. Sanders. Burial was in Brush Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Zach Walls, Billy Short, Barry Smither, Burrell Smither Jr., Benjie Smither and Donnie Smither.

HENRY WATKINS

Henry Aellen Watkins, 49, husband of Donna Watkins, died Friday, January 13, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Lexington, he was the son Emma Lee (Richard) Martin, Lexington, and the late Henry Watkins.

He was a public service worker for L.F.U.C.G. Parks & Recreation and affiliated with the Shakertown Baptist Church of Harrodsburg.

Survivors, other than his wife and mother, include: three daughters, Tasha (Criss) Chaney, Winchester, Misty (Paul) Shaw, Nicholsville, Donna (DJ) Chamberss, Lexington; one son, Timothy (Jennifer) Dixon, Lexington, one sister, Margie (Bill) Weaver, Lexington; three half-sisters, Nola (Leonard) Fox, Lexington, Mary (Lee) Snowden, Lexington, Sandy (Robert) Shepard, Monticello; one half-brother, Ritchie Martin, Lexington; 11 grandchildren; father-in-law, Willliam (Betty) Dixon, Harrodsburg; and mother-in-law, Sue Ann Hensly, Lexington.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, at Kerr Brothers - Main St., officiated by Pastor Joe Smith and Bro. Dewayne Walker.

Visitation will be held Sunday and Monday from 5- 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to The Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic, 1401 Harrodsburg Rd. Suite A-100, Lexington, KY 40504.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted Military Rites for James Lewis at Spring Hill Cemetery Jan. 15, 2006.

Those attending were Curtis and Earl Sherrow, Tom Rappelye, Tom Denny, Joe Harlow, Floyd Shirley and Lucian Landers.

Bugler was David Best.

Army representatives from Fort Knox were SSG David R. Thompson and SSG Christopher M. Hayner.

ROBERT ANDERSON

Robert “Bob” Wesley Anderson, 74, of Bohon, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at his home.

Born Aug. 17, 1931 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Edward and Ida Poiyter Anderson and the husband of Margaret Hatfield Anderson.

He was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and University of Kentucky sports.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Ronald “Rusty” Russell (Mary) Anderson of Mercer County; one daughter, Robin Jo (Freddie) Burkhead of Roebuck, SC; three sisters, Burdetta (Charles) Trent and Pairie (Gordon) Yates, both of Danville and Mary Boyd of Lancaster; three grandsons, one step-granddaughter, two step great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil, James, and Leslie Anderson and one sister, Shirley Hall.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Burkhead and Rodney Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Paint Lick Cemetery in Garrard County.

Pallbearers will be Jason Burkhead, Wesley Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Michael Stevens, David Stevens and Phillip Stevens.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday from 7 a.m. until the hour of service at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.
