VELMA CROUCH

Velma Molen Crouch, 95, of Harrodsburg Health Center, formerly of Monticello, died Sunday, August 13, 2000 at her residence.

Born June 10, 1905 in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Mollie Tate Molen.

She was a member of Tuttles Chapel Methodist Church at Frazer.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lora Jean Ellis, Harrodsburg; one grandson, Gary Ellis, Harrodsburg, and two great grandsons. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Crouch; two brothers, Charles and Herstel Molen; one granddaughter, Vicky Lynn Ellis.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 15, at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello with Bro. Larry Redding officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello.

JERRY ROYALTY

Jerry Mack Royalty, 52, of 1643 Cardwell Road, died Monday, August 21, 2000 at his residence.

Born October 29, 1947 in Louisville, he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Probus Cash, of Louisville, and the late Aaron Jewel Royalty.

He was retired from the Air Force where he was a jet engine mechanic and from the civil service where he was an inspector. He was a Vietnam and Gulf War veteran.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his step father, Gene Cash, Louisville; his wife, Lois Metten Royalty, Louisville; one son, Vincent Dane Royalty, Somerset; one daughter, Nancy Lynn Schoenberg, Raleigh, NC; one sister, Joyce Ann Royalty, Prospect; two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, August 25, at the Mercer Church of Christ with Mike Justice officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Royalty Cemetery, Washington County.

Pallbearers will be Ray Probus, Charlie Probus, John Steve Breatten, Bob Warren, David Royalty, Randall Burns and grandsons, Anthony and Nicholas Royalty.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. at the church.

WILBURN PEAVLER

Wilburn "Bill" Peavler, 85, of Greenwood, Indiana, died Saturday, August 19, 2000 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Born July 17, 1915 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Isaac and Mary Doyle Peavler.

He was employed for 35 years by Union Carbide as a machinist, retiring in 1978.

He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and was a member of the men’s Bible study. He was active in the Greenwood Senior Citizens and enjoyed bus touring.

Survivors include: his wife, Nan C. Brawner Peavler, Greenwood, IN; two sons, Joseph W. Peavler, Harrodsburg, and James A. Peavler, Fort Wayne, IN; three daughters, Darlene Sanders, Greenwood, IN, Martha Jean Kent, Brownsburg, IN, and Rosalie Williams, LA; one sister, Rose Bough, Greenwood, IN; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Davis; seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel. Dr. Howard Ness and Mason Grove officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township, IN.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

CLARENCE HARRIS

Clarence "H. J." Walker Harris, 79, of New Lebanon, OH, died Wednes-day, August 23, 2000, at the Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH.

Born July 6, 1921 in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late William and Allie Beckum Harris. He was the widower of Mary Terhune Harris.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran, having served in World War II, and retired from Dayton Tire and Rubber after 30 years of service.

Survivors include: one daughter, Teresa (Ron) Boggs, New Lebanon, OH; two sons, Phil (Phyllis) Harris, Troy, OH; Larry (Rosa) Harris, Dayton, OH; one sister, Frances Pierce of KY; one brother, Harvey J. Harris, LA; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 25, at the Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon. Burial was in the Dayton National Cemetery.

DELCIA CURTSINGER

Delcia Southerland Curtsinger, 61, of the Cardwell community of Washington County, died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at the Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

A native of Casey County, she was born December 29, 1938 to the late Leonard and Hulda Sheperson Southerland.

She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include: Her husband, Johnny Curtsinger, Washington County; two sons, Robert Curtsinger, Mercer County, Lonnie Curtsinger, Washington County, three daughters, Mrs. Ronnie (Margaret) Britton, Mercer County, Mrs. Donnie (Shirley) Gibson, Somerset and Beth Curtsinger, Washington County; ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and David Curtsinger, a grandson, Kenneth Curtsinger, Jr., and a brother, Bill Southerland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. George Martin and Bro. Greg Bowen officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg.

Pallbearers were Terry Yates, Benjamin Settles, Carroll Settles, Clay Curtsinger, Joe Campbell and Timmy Hill.

JANICE SHELL

Janice N. Shell, of Mercer County, died Friday, August 25, 2000 at her residence.

Born February 22, 1946 in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Toy Swietzer Goforth.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her husband, David L. Shell, Mercer County; three sons, Martin Shell, Jeffrey Shell and Kris Shell, all of Mercer County; one sister, Yvonne Gara, Nicholasville; two grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

MAUDIE SALLEE

Maudie G. Sallee, 89, of 442 Mooreland Avenue, died Thursday, August 24, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born July 18, 1911 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Georgia Hatchell Norvell. She was the widow of Gilbert Sallee.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church, a former Sunday School Teacher, a member of Widow to Widow Group, Mercer County Senior citizens, and an avid gardener.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Raymond Norvell, and one sister, Beatrice McGlone.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 27, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe McGlone, Jimmie Norvell, Dennis Sallee, Kenneth Harlow, James Webb and W. M. Alford.

OLIVIA CHILDERS

Olivia June Childers, 76, of 1542 Cornishville Road, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 25, 2000 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born September 28, 1923 in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of the late Dillen and Lela Speer Wray. She was the widow of John "Monk" Childers.

She was a homemaker, a crossing guard at Stalker School in Bedford and was a volunteer at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Bedford.

Survivors include: one son, Duane Hall, Harrodsburg; one sister, Dottie Adamson, Bedford, IN; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Darryn Hall, three sisters, EvaLou Porter, Evalyn McCoy and Callie Southern, and one brother Sanford Wray.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, IN. Burial was in Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

GLADYS SMITH

Gladys A. Webb Smith, 63, of 1100 McCouns Ferry Road, Salvisa, died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at her residence.

Born June 11, 1937 in Muncie, IN, she was the daughter of Mary Ann Rhinehart of Boaz, AL, and the late Ollie Webb.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her husband, John C. Smith, Salvisa; two sons, John Webb, London, David Tuttle, Irvine; two step sons, Kenneth J. Smith, MN and Richard Smith, Sacramento, CA; five daughters, Marie Mays Calhoun, Leesburg, IN, Mary Ellen Mays Stacy, Monroe, OH, Joyce Mays Chamberlain, Burgin, Amanda Lynn Martinez, Bowling Green, Patricia Ann Evans, Warsaw, IN; three brothers, Eugene Webb, Muncie, IN, Ray Doggett of Boaz, AL and William John Doggett, Muncie, IN; four sisters, Betty Walker, Gunnsville, AL, Doris Warpoole, Boaz, AL, Michelle Rogers, Manson, WA and Beulah May Dean, Muncie, IN; sixteen grandchildren and two step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

A memorial service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Br. Bobby Logue officiating.

HERBERT HARRIS

Herbert J. Harris, 82, of 532 Cricklewood Drive, Lexington, formerly of Alexandria, VA, died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born November 3, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Edmund and Ida Woods Harris.

He was retired from the Internal Revenue Service, a US Army veteran of World War II where he was in the Tank Battalion, a member of the Groveton Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA and was a 1937 graduate of Harrodsburg High School.

Survivors include: one brother, Johnny R. Harris, Lexington; two sisters, Mrs. Armatha Perkins, Burgin, and Mrs. Mary Long, Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

MALINDA COLLIN

Malinda Marie Collin, 79, of 338 Runyon Road, died Thursday, August 24, 2000 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born September 29, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Bertha Mae Claunch.

She was a retired GTE employee and a member of Benton Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Rosa Anderson, Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: a brother, Willie Claunch; one son, Colon Williams; one great grandchild.

Graveside services were held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Mark Williams officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

VIRGIL ELLIOTT

Virgil P. Elliott Sr., 79, of 446 Price Avenue, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born November 20, 1920 in Danville, he was a son of the late Price and Mary Catherine Wren Elliott.

He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer of the Kentucky National Guard, served from 1948 until 1990. He was a member of American Legion Post #52; 40 and 8, VFW, Oleika Shrine Temple, Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM and the National Guard Association. He was an army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include: one son, Virgil (Lynda) Elliott, Jr., Harrodsburg; one brother, Colonel (Ret.) Edwin Elliott, Harrodsburg; one sister, Eunice Tyler, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a son, Ronald Dale Elliott; three brothers, James C. Elliott, Ralph Gene Elliott, J. W. Elliott; a sister, Genivieve McCandles.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 26, at Saint Andrew Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Muench officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites. A prayer service and Masonic services were held Friday at the Ransdell Funeral chapel.

Pallbearers were Colby, Taylor, Ott and Don Elliott, Shelby, Kevin, Kelly and Keith Tyler and Danny McCandless.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Andrew Catholic Church.
