ANNE MARTIN
Martha Anne Martin, 92, of Logan Avenue, Danville, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at James B. Haggin Hospital.

Born July 19, 1914, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Turner and Grace Williams Collier.

She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Joseph A. Martin.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Jim Stewart.

Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LARRY PINKSTON
Larry G. Pinkston, 51, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at his home.

Born July 25, 1954 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Maxine Ashton Pinkston of Harrodsburg and the late Ray Shelt Pinkston.

He was a former brick mason, and he enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: three daughters, Bridget Moore and Jennifer Pinkston, both of Lafayette, IN, and Cheyene Pinkston of Danville; three brothers, Charles Pinkston of Mackville, Earl Pinkston of Danville and Steve Pinkston of Harrodsburg, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 21 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. James Harley and Steven James officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry Hume, Gary Hume, Barry Warren, David Proctor, Daniel Wesley, John Arns and Vernon Lender.

Honorary pallbearers were Eric Warford, Tony Warford, Aaron Warford, Derrick Cochran and Herbert Ashton.

CLAUDE TERHUNE
Claude Mitchell Terhune, 89, of Harlingen, TX, died March 3, 2006.

Born Jan. 7, 1917 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Claude and Laura Terhune and the husband of Ruby Lee Terhune.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and flew in defense of Pearl Harbor during and after the attack in WWII. He received many commendations including the Air Force Longevity Service Award. After retiring from the military, he taught in the Harlingen school system for 14 years and earned his master’s degree in History from Texas A&M. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the First Baptist Church in Harlingen.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Terry (Susan) Terhune; two daughters, Claudia (Glenn) Joines and Stephanie (Dwayne) Nimerick; one brother, Loren Terhune; one sister, Anne Freeman of Harrodsburg, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held March 7 at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen with the Rev. Chris Hall officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandra Pike, Cole Spring, KY 41076.

LUCILLE THACKER
Lucille Lawson Thacker, 94, of Burgin, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at her home.

Born Oct. 2, 1911 in New Hope, she was the daughter of the late David Dixon and Stella Smith Lawson and the widow of Edward Harry Thacker.

She attended the Mt. Moriah School and was a graduate of Burgin High School.

She was a homemaker and a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church and W.M.U.

She was an avid reader and she enjoyed sewing, gardening and flowers.

Survivors include: two sons, Jerry (Janet) Thacker of Burgin and Ed (Dorothy) Thacker of Fairview, TX; one daughter, Ann Thacker Hicks of Burgin; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. Ralph Neal and Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Thacker, Eddie Thacker, Bob Hronek, Tracey Edwards, James Teater and Brian Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and after 7 a.m. Thursday.

GAYLE THRELKELD
Rev. Gayle Watkins Threlkeld, 78, of Birmingham, AL, died March 17, 2006.

Born in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Cleveland and Edith Threlkeld and the husband of Dorotha "Jimmie" Vest Threlkeld.

He was a retired minister of the Presbyterian Church USA and a member of the Middle Tennessee Presbytery. After graduating from Harrodsburg High School, he entered the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served as a medical corpsman. Upon leaving the service he entered and graduated from Centre College in Danville and Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ. During his career he served as minister in Presbyterian churches in Fayetteville, NC; DeFuniak Springs, FL; Shelbyville, KY; Grenada, MS, and Smyrna, TN. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, served as a Steward of his Princeton Seminary Alumni class and was a charter member of the Over The Mountain Democrats in Birmingham.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Jeffry Vest (Sally) Threlkeld of Birmingham, AL; one daughter, Nancy Todd Threlkeld (Rick) Spaulding of Lexington; one sister, Jane Threlkeld Richmond of Richmond; four grandchildren, one niece and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lt. Col. Robert F. Moore, and one sister Margaret M. Pentz.

A memorial service was held Sunday, March 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.

Graveside services will be held in Harrodsburg at a later date.

VALERIE WILSON
Valerie Wilson, 79, of Junction City died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at her daughter's home.

Born July 12, 1926 in Morgan County, TN to the late John Marion Jones and Verthena Bicknell Jones.

She retired from Palm Beach after 40 years and retired from whirlpool after 5 years. She was a member of the Bohon Road Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Colson Wilson.

Survivors include: one son, Marvin Wilson, Moreland; one daughter, Paulette (Ken) Calia, Harrodsburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, at the Spurlin Funeral home, Stanford, with Pastor Ken Calia officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert White, Adam White, James King, Eric Perez, William Murphy and Elwood Humphrey.

Honorary bearers will be Marty Shepherd, Ronnie Broce, Brandon Selby, Kenneth Harris, Palmer Wiley, Louis Dean and Greg Isham.

JOHN BAKER
John Thomas Baker, 66, of Clay Avenue, died Sunday March 26, 2006 at his home.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lillie Leonard Baker.

He was a retired brick mason and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He enjoyed karaoke and playing bass guitar and was an outdoorsman.

Survivors include: step- mother, Ethel Baker of Harrodsburg; three sons, Sean Baker of Junction City, Thomas Lynn (Pam) Baker of North Carolina and Scott (Trisha) Baker of Burgin; two daughters, Pascha (Robert) Hamilton of Danville and Stephanie (Scott) Gilliam of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Harold (Elizabeth) Baker of Lincoln County and David R. (Betty) Baker of Harrodsburg; one half-brother, J. R. Baker Jr. of London; eight grandchildren, two nieces, and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Carrie Bell Baker.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. James Harley and Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in Middleburg Cemetery in Casey County.

Pallbearers were Bob Catlett, Joe Hamilton, Paul Blacketer, Paul Romans, Lee Prather and Ronnie Million.

BRYAN BOSWELL
Bryan Scott Boswell, 24, of Cornishville Road, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at his home.

Born April 7, 1981 in Fayette County, he was the son of Freddie and Sharon Ervin Boswell of Mercer County.

He was a 1999 graduate of Mercer County High School. He was employed by Boswell Construction Company and worked in railroad construction. He grew up attending the Worldwide Church of God, and he enjoyed fishing, boating, horseback riding and spending time with children.

In addition to his parents, survivors include: one brother, Lloyd Travis Boswell of Harrodsburg; maternal grandmother, Christine Kelly of Mercer County; fiancée, Sara Riley of Mercer County, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 29 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Dick and Ricky Mobley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Boswell, Brad Mobley, Tony Cook, McKinley Lake, Shannon Riley and Jake Mills. Honorary pallbearers were Stevie Elliott, Pearl Hamlin and Josh Broce.

OPAL BRUNER

Vera Opal Burns Bruner, known to many as “Granny Ope”, 97, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Brownsboro Hills Nursing Home in Louisville.

She was the second of three children born to the late William Ira and Ona Sanders Burns in Mercer County on July 9, 1908.

She was a life long member of the Bohon Church of Christ and attended Eastern Kentucky Teacher's College and Kentucky Wesleyan College when it was located in Winchester. She briefly taught school in her youth. Later in life, she worked as a copy holder for a Braille proof reader and was employed for many years at the White Cottage Restaurant in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Ann Hayden, Harrodsburg and Nancy Bruner (Howard) Wilson, Louisville, with whom she had made her home for the past several years; two sons: David Carlton (Carol) Bruner, Burgin, Michael Burns Bruner, Gadsden, AL; and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Burns, Burgin; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Bruner, a daughter, Reva Eileen Reynolds, a brother, James Burns and a sister, Valeria Larkins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Bohon Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Bruner, Aaron Bruner, David Tingle, II, Jerry Gray, Jim Burns, and John Mattingly.

Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. Friday, and after 7 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

MARIE BRYANT
Marie Mae Champion Bryant, 77, of Commerce, GA, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Commerce Assisted Living Home in Georgia.

Born Jan. 7, 1929 in White Plains, GA, she was the daughter of Reid and Ella Mae Akins Champion and the widow of Robert Lee Bryant.

She was a nurse's aid, a former member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hancock County, KY, and a member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: one daughter, Wreath (Ronald) Neely of Athens, GA; three sisters, Carrie (Joe B.) Taylor of Atlanta, GA, Margaret Champion and Mamie (Larry) Hillman, both of White Plains, GA; three brothers, Willie Claude Champion of Washington, DC, Reaven Champion of Newark, NJ, and Amour (Mattie) Champion of White Plains, GA; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren, and one niece, Ruth Ann Bryant of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by one brother, John Champion.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28 at the Parks Funeral Home with Elder J.D. Short III officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery at Wilmore.

GARNETTA CHAPMAN
Garnetta Faye Chapman, 61, of Danville, widow of George Chapman, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.

She was born December 10, 1944 to the late William M. and Delphia Mills Whitlock.

She was a waitress and worked at Palm Beach clothing factory in Danville and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: three sons, Steve Morris, Danville, Billy Dean Whittaker, Burgin, and Jesse Lee Whittaker, Versailles; one daughter, Anita Hubbard, Parksville; two step sons, Gregory Chapman, Cincinnati, OH and Eric Chapman, Williamsburg, OH; one step daughter, Barbara Motko, Visalia, CA; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Morris.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford. Ministers Steve Owens and Junior Field will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Downey, Steve Rector, Doug Estep, Joe Lyles, Billy Whittaker and Butch Nevius. Honorary bearers will be Steve Owens, James Hubbard and Timmy Whittaker.

EDDIE CHENAULT

Eddie Eugene Chenault, age 55, of Dunkirk Drive, Lexington, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at his home.

He was born May 20, 1950 in Harrodsburg, the son of Mary VanDyke Chenault, of Harrodsburg and the late George Albert Chenault.

He was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg and the National Rifle Association. He was a stock manager for Save-A-Lot in Lexington; a 1970 graduate of Mercer County High School; and served in the United States Marine Corps, having served twice in the Vietnam War.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: one daughter, Hope Kristi Chenault, TX; four sisters, Alice (Victor) Brown, Alberta Burns, and Doris (James Jr.) Harvey, all of Lawrenceburg, and Veronica Rose, Cincinnati, OH; several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Barry C. Johnson Sr. officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The American Diabetes Association, 1941 Bishop Lane, Suite 110, Louisville, KY 40218.

RAYMOND COOLEY
Raymond Lester Cooley, 65, of Danville, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Lexington.

Born June 10, 1940 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late John Clark and Ruth Mae Jones Cooley and the husband of Ruth Burger Cooley.

He was a retired employee of Matsushita and a door greeter at Wal-Mart in Stanford. He was a member and deacon of Pleasant Run Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Michael Lloyd Cooley of Harrodsburg and Barry Lynn Cooley of Junction City; one brother, Luther Marvin Cooley of Ohio; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Run Baptist Church on Forkland Road in Parksville with the Revs. J.R. Fields and Harley Humfleet officiating. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stephen, Derick and Johnny Cooley, Robin Burger, Lennie Shepperson and Richard Casey. Honorary pallbearers will be Kala, Donovan, Stetson and Peyton Cooley, Kaylee Sinkhorn, Ashley Reardon and the deacons of Pleasant Run Baptist Church.

Visitation will be at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, and at the church Friday after 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Run Baptist Church.

ADA DISPONETT

Ada M. Disponett, 79, of Leann Lane, Nicholasville died Friday, March 24, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Born December 17, 1926 in Mercer County, she was the late Levi and Lona Bell Brown Robinson.

She was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School, a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Mercer County, and a former employee of Barrett Manufacturing, Wilmore. She enjoyed cooking and spending time working in her yard.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, William Disponett, she is survived: by two daughters Rosemary (Al) Neal, Lancaster, Wanda (James) Rainwater, Wilmore; two sons, Frank Disponett, Lawrenceburg, Perry (Mera) Disponett, Lexington; one brother, James Robinson; one sister, Rose Carpenter, both of Nicholasville; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Emmett, Charles "Bud", Donald, and Thomas Robinson, two sisters, Mary B. Royalty and Margaret Adams, and a grandson Robert Neal.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 27, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, on Oak St. with Rev. Jamie Williams and Rev. Leonard Fitch officiating. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is today, March 26, from 1 - 5 pm at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Bluegrass, Jessamine Co.
