Edith Wheeler Knight Ross, 86, of Nicholasville, formerly of Mercer County, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006.
Born Aug. 2, 1919 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late W.H. and Dora Underwood Wheeler.
She was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church and a former member of the Dry Branch Baptist Church. Her faith in God was a strong part of her everyday life.
Survivors include: three sons, Dexter (Wanda) Knight of Nicholasville, Delbert W. (Brenda) Eason and James H. (Peggy) Eason, both of Garrard County; one sister, Ruth Preston of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Derek and Dalton Knight of Nicholasville, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Melvin Eason.
Funeral services were held Friday at Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville with Bros. Willie Laswell and Donnie Releford officiating.
Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dallas and Derek Knight, Frank Corman, Hugh "Nookie" Stotts Jr., Johnny Walker and Gary Burdine.
Honorary pallbearers were Dalton Knight, Harlan Prewitt, Perry Clark, Kevin Corman and Dick Tanhauser.

VERNON SEARS
Vernon Lee Sears, 72, of Deer Park Ohio, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Residence at Garden Gate in Cincinnati.
Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Joe and Mary Johnson Sears.
Survivors include: his wife, Juanita Sears, Mount Orab, OH; three sons, Jerry Sears and Billy Sears, both of Hamilton County, OH, and David Sears, Brown County, OH; three daughters, Patricia Thomas, Hamilton County, and Debbie Campahmor and Annette Sears, both of Brown County; a brother, Dawson Sears, Danville; three sisters, Eva Downs, Stanford, Ruby Drury, Harrodsburg and Elsie Kidd, Danville; a half-sister, Nellie Payton, Liberty; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jean Sears.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland.
Visitation is 3-5 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday.
BERNICE WARD
Bernice F. Ward, 85, of Salvisa, died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Dec. 4, 1920 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mattie Belle Riley Ward.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Shirley W. (Charles) Clark of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Herman (Doris) Ward of Versailles; a special niece, Lee Ann Clark, and eight other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Claxton, Burk, Worley and Marvin Ward.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Elwood Norton and Tim Gray officiating. Burial with military rites was in Kirkwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark, David and Steve Gray, Keith McDonald, Billy Driscoll, Omer Wayne Moore and Gary Gilbert Honorary pallbearers were Garland Hoskins, Donald Gray, George Omer Moore, Joy, Mary Alice and Ada Bruce Gash.

SAMUEL BENNETT
Samuel Chilton Bennett, 80, of Burgin, died Friday, April 21, 2006 at his home.
Born Nov. 4, 1925 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late D. Samuel and Ruby Chilton Bennett and the husband of Martha Christine Sexton Bennett.
He and his wife owned and operated Bennett¹s Grocery for many years, and he was a member of the Burgin Christian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM and the Oleika Shrine Temple. He also served as a constable for several years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Linda (Bill) McGlone of Harrodsburg; one son, David Bruce (Robin) Bennett of Burgin; six grandchildren, Samuel (Anita) Qualls, Diana Bennett, Randy and John Qualls, and David and Anthony Woodard; seven great-grandchildren, and special friends Delbert and Edna Ball.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sammie Joan Bennett, and one son, Samuel C. Bennett Jr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Mark Reiss, Jeanette Lucas and Scott George officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Crouch, Lee Sharp, Donnie Montgomery, Charles Goodlett, Chester Otis, Bill Yeary and Jerry Thacker.
Honorary pallbearers were Delbert Ball, Don Bugg, Lloyd Pickett, Curtis Keeling, Curtis Bailey and Bob Thompson.

DIANA DAY
Diana Day, 50, of Kennedy Bridge Road, Lancaster, died Wednesday, April 20, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born March 6, 1956, in Mount Hope, WV, she was a daughter of the late Leon R. Hudson and Betty Arthur Hudson and stepdaughter of Curtis Johnson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Landmark Worship Center.
Survivors include: her husband, Freddie Day; two sons, Larry Criss, Lancaster, and Roger Criss, Mercer County; a stepson, Christopher Day, Lancaster; a daughter, Misty Justice, Lancaster; a stepdaughter, Emilie Day, Lancaster, a brother, Freddie Hacker, WV; five sisters, Debra Tyler, Deanna Marsh, Drema Domingues, Donna J. Davis and Mary Johnson, all of WV; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date in West Virginia. Burial will be in Arthur Family Cemetery in Bradley, WV.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 21, at God's Landmark Church, Kennedy Bridge Road, Garrard County.
Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
GREGORY DEVINE
Gregory Lee Devine, son of Ashley N. McKnight and Gregory S. Devine of Gwinn Island Road, was stillborn Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Other survivors include his grandparents, Mike Shepherd and Kelly Fields, both of Cumberland, Geraldine Clifford and Jeff and Cheryl Wesley, all of Harrodsburg, and Greg Devine of Lawrenceburg; and great-grandparents, Brenda Lewis and Kay Underwood, both of Harrodsburg, Jerry McKnight and Loretta Shepherd, both of Cumberland, Helen Bailey of Lawrenceburg, and Richard Lewis of Burgin.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
GENEVA EDWARDS
Geneva Kathryn Case Edwards, 83, of Old Lancaster Road, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at her home.
Born June 16, 1922, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie Frances Combs Case. She was retired from Palm Beach Co. where she was a seamstress, and the widow of William H. Edwards. She attended Junction City High School and was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her daughter, Donna C. Dunn, Danville; a son, Billy L. Edwards, Danville; a brother, Carl Case, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Lucille Gibson, Danville, Edna Pollard, Cape Girardeau, MO, and Marie Crain, Danville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Tommy Valentine. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Huff, Barry Benedict, Mandy Benedict, Tiffany Dunn, Mark Edwards, Zack Benedict and Darrell Edwards.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
RUTH GOODLETT
Ruth F. Goodlett, 87, of Burgin, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at her home.
Born June 9, 1918 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late George Moss and Ara Parker Freeman and the wife of Guy Goodlett Sr.
She was a homemaker, a former bookkeeper and a lifetime member of the Burgin Christian Church where she had served as organist and elder emeritus and in numerous organizations in the church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 309, where she was Past Worthy Matron, Grand Organist of Kentucky and Grand Representative to Massachusetts, and she had served as Chapter Organist. She was an avid pianist and former member of The Harrodstown Chorus.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: three sons, Gerald D. (Barbara) Goodlett of Pee Wee Valley, Charles F. (Pat) Goodlett of Burgin and Guy W. (Georgia) Goodlett Jr. of Boise, ID; two daughters, Ara K. (Al) Lawrence of Brandenburg and Lessley G. (Richard) Wood of Prospect; eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth F. Humel and Lessley Colson, and one brother, Max Freeman.
Order of the Eastern Star services were held Tuesday, April 25 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 26, at the Burgin Christian Church with the Revs. Charles Brumley and Jeannette Lucas officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons Michael S. and David B. Wright, Kevin L., Colby L. and Kaleb O. Goodlett and Patrick Massey.
Honorary pallbearers were Juliet and Mark Carlile, Michelle and Matt DeLacey and Lydia M. Goodlett.

ALMA HARTLAUF
Alma Louise Taylor Hartlauf, 87, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Britthaven of South Louisville Nursing Home in Louisville.
Born April 2, 1919 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Nicholas and Nora Cox Taylor and the widow of Anthony Nicholas Hartlauf Jr.
She was a retired Eaton employee and was a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid ball and NASCAR fan.
Survivors include: one daughter, Doris June Smith of Fairdale.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Morris Taylor, and one niece, Pat McCarty.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Louisville.
Pallbearers were Bobby, Danny and Darrell Brock, Monty McRay, Noble Boswell and Walter Monroe, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank and Nancy Ransdell.

HAROLD PRESTON
Harold Renwick Preston, 79, of Louisville, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Regency Rehab and Nursing Center in Louisville.
Born Oct. 18, 1926 in Lexington, he was the son of the late John A. and Ella Marie Purvis Preston and the husband of Vena Mae Sheperson Preston.
He was a retired minister and missionary, having served in the Philippines for more than seven years. He also served during World War II in the U. S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Deborah (Alex) Poulter of Lexington, Rebecca (Danny) Chapman of Louisville and Cindy (Daryl) Hampton of Houston, TX; three sons, Renwick Preston, Jonathan (Linda) Preston and David (Jane) Preston, all of Houston, TX; two brothers, John A. Preston and Kenneth Preston, both of Harrodsburg; 16 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 23 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Frasher and Jim Harmon officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery with military rites.
Pallbearers were grandsons.

WILLIAM RALEY
William Lawrence Raley, 72, of Frankfort, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort.
Born Jan. 17, 1934 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Tolley and Mary Lane Raley and the husband of Violet Raley.
He was a machine operator for Ertol Manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Roger (Kathy) Raley of Boyle County and Michael Raley of Anderson County; one daughter, Cindy (Gary) Wooldridge of Frankfort; three step-sons, Billy Yates of Oklahoma, Steven Paynter of Indianapolis, IN, and Douglas Judy of Frankfort; three step-daughters, Jeanitta (Rudy) Montona of Indianapolis, IN, Patty Roche of Frankfort and Debbie (Jessie) Venezuela of California; five brothers, Kenneth (Jo Ann) Raley of Indianapolis, IN, Frank (Emma Dell) Goodlett of Salvisa, James Lester “Frog” (Ruby) Raley, Harold (Margaret) Goodlett and David Goodlett, all of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Opal (Virgil) Peyton and Rachel Goodlett, both of Harrodsburg and Brenda Goodlett of Danville; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Goodlett, and one step-daughter April Patrick.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 24 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating.
JAMES BEAUCHAMP
James Byron Beauchamp, 87, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at his home.
Born Jan. 9, 1919 in Clarkston, GA, he was the son of the late William Byron and Tiny Saye Beauchamp and the husband of Anne Woodward Beauchamp.
He was a retired employee of the Internal Revenue Service and served for several years as a lay minister with the Disciples of Christ Christian Church. He was a World War II Marine veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Diane Beauchamp (David) Barnett of Harrodsburg; two sons, James Bryon (Regina) Beau-champ Jr. of St. Joseph, MI, and Dr. John Steven Beauchamp of Clarkston, GA; one sister, Frances Beauchamp Jackson of Tucker, GA; four grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Willie Mae Begien and Dorothy Hadaway.
Graveside services with military rites were held Monday, May 1 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County with grandson John William Beauchamp officiating.
Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg was in charge of arrangements.
TROY CHRISTOPHER
Troy Douglas Christopher, 69, of Montgomery, AL, died Thursday, April 27, 2006.
He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of South Carolina. He was a retired major with the U.S. Air Force, was employed as a controller with Algernon-Blair and was CFO of Turner Insurance and Bonding. He was an avid UK fan, a member of the UK Fellow Association and a lifetime member of the UK Alumni Association.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary E. Christopher; one son, Stephen D. (Judy) Christopher; one daughter, Linda C. Hale; one brother, Charles L. (Elizabeth) Christopher; mother-in-law, Mary Rose Blacketer of Harrodsburg; one sister-in-law, Brenda (Brennan) Boswell of Mercer County; two granddaughters, and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 29 at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Montgomery.

JESSICA HOPKINS
Jessica Victoria Hopkins, 17, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 in Mercer County.
Born Feb. 19, 1989 in Columbus, GA, she was the daughter of Jessica Hendley Hopkins and the late Roger Hopkins.
She was a student at Mercer County High School where she was a member of the FFA, a former cheerleader and gymnast and was a mentor in the PALS program. She worked at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill as a server and attended the Bluegrass Pike Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, survivors include: guardians, Rhonda and Tony Smith of Mercer County; one brother, Joshua Hopkins of McDowell; paternal grandmother, Linda Williams of Richmond; paternal grandfather, Ronnie Hopkins of McDowell; paternal great-grandparents, Harold and Annie Watson of Columbus, GA, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3 at the Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial was in Hopkins Cemetery in McDowell.
