IMOGENE FORD
Imogene Ford, 80, of Louisville, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at her home.

A native of Burgin, she was the wife of Louis B. Ford.

She was a member of the St. Louis Bertrand Church in Louisville, a member of the St. James Altar Society and a volunteer for St. Anthony Hospital.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: six sons, Tim (Candy) Ford, Mike (Jennifer) Ford, Dennis (Beth) Ford, Joe (Cathy) Ford, Frank (Patti) Ford and Marty (Dee) Ford; four daughters, Rosie (Mike) Burket, Teresa (Tom) Knight, Jane (Gerard) Senn and Susan (Dave) Kinny; two sisters, Louise Well and Christine Huey; one brother, J.C. Davis; 33 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister, Frances Voris.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9 at 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Betrand Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.

Visitation will be Thursday from 12-8 p.m. at the Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home in Louisville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sister Visitor Center, The Louis Bertrand Fund, c/o St. Louis Bertrand Church, Franciscan Shelter House, St. John Center or Hospice of Louisville.

LETHA HEDGES

Letha Frances Peyton Hedges, 41, of Lewis Ferry Road, Frankfort, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, following an illness.

A native of Franklin County, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Victory Chapel, Frankfort.

She is survived by: her husband, Cecil D. Hedges, Frankfort; two sons, Anthony Scott Newton, Lexington, and Brandon G. Newton, Frankfort; her father and step-mother, Virgil D. Peyton and Opal Peyton, Harrodsburg; her mother and step-father, Shirley Ann Hellard and Paul Hellard, Frankfort; four brothers, Carl G. Peyton and Douglas Scott Peyton, both of Frankfort, Steve Butler and Michael Wayne Butler, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Cecilia Chapman and Tammy Yount, both of Frankfort, and Sheila Peyton Orrand, Harrodsburg.

Memorial Services will be conducted Thursday, June 8, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel, Frankfort. Rev. Wade Hughes will officiate.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass/Frankfort Office, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

STANLEY LEAGUE
Stanley G. League, 65, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday June 1, 2006 in Louisville.

Burial was in River Valley Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Owen Funeral home, Jeffersontown, was in charge of arrangements.

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services is looking for next of kin for League, who was born in Mercer County.

CARLA LEONARD
Carla Leonard, 45, of Tyler Avenue, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.

Born June 12, 1960 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. “Bobby” and Delores Raiza Leonard.

She was a postal clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Danville. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, a graduate of Western Kentucky University and was inducted into the Boyle County Hall of Fame this year for girl’s basketball.

Survivors include: two sisters, Gayle Miller of Brandon, MS, and Cecelia Leonard of Harrodsburg; one brother, Sleet Leonard of Danville, and three nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 5 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Leonard, Bill Shewmaker, Joe McGlone, Tom Tolliver, Doug Sanders, Joe Overstreet, Gile Cochran and John Miller.

Honorary pallbearers were Teresa Sanders, Peggy Snow, Becky Snead, Gayle Prewitt, Sis Robey, Julia McKay, Franseda Gunn and Marsha Hughes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Louisville, Norton Health Care Pavilion, 6th Floor, 315 E. Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202.

CHRISTINE MEACHAM
Christine Payne Meacham, 82, of Cocoa, FL, died Saturday, June 3, 2006. Born in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late T. O. and Hazel Wheeler Payne and the widow of Dell Meacham II.

She was a graduate of Cornishville School and a former member of the Bohon Church of Christ. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Cocoa.

Survivors include: one son, Dell Meacham III of Cocoa, FL, and five nieces, Anna Reed, Betty Jo Sanders and Ruth Claycomb, all of Harrodsburg, Jeannette Milburn of Burgin and Billie Sue Shirley of Mississippi.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dillard, L. J. and Jimmy Payne, and one sister, Ruby Smithey.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 7 at the Brevard Memorial Chapel in Cocoa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

JOHN NAPIER SR.

John Campbell Napier Sr., 34 of Lexington, husband of Christina Lee Napier, died Saturday, June 3, 2006.

A native of Lexington, he was employed in the parts department at Freedom Dodge and had attended Henry Clay High School. He was a long-time member of Camp Nelson Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Bethany Rhiannon Napier, and a son, John “Jack” Campbell Napier Jr., both of Lexington; his mother, Sue Alexander, of Lexington; and his father, Delmer G. Napier, Anniston, AL; his sister, Rebecca (Dale) Sweet, Lexington; a nephew, Dillon Sweet, Lexington; his mother-in-law, Darlene Weyandt, Nicholasville; his father-in-law, Don (Juanita) Weyandt, Nicholasville, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Alexander of Lexington.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday, from 4-8 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road.

ANDREW PERKINS

Andrew Phillip Perkins, 22, son of Phillip and Margaret "Peggy" Perkins, Lexington, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 after his automobile was struck by a train near Waveland in Fayette County.

Born in Kalamazoo, MI, he was a graduate of Lexington Christian Academy and a senior history major at Indiana Wesleyan University. He was a member of the Young Republicans and had a passion for Kentucky history. He served as a volunteer tour guide for Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, and Old Fort Harrod State Park. He was a member of the Stonewall Wesleyan Church.

Survivors, other than his parents, include: a sister, Katie (Jonathan) Brantley; maternal grandfather, Donald W. Johnson; paternal grandmother, Doris L. Perkins; nine cousins and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, at Stonewall Wesleyan Church by Rev. Chip Monk. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 - 9 p.m., Tue at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stonewall Wesleyan Church for Australian Mission Project, 3353 Clays Mill Rd., Lexington, KY 40503.

DAVID QUINN JR.

David Castleman Quinn Jr., 77, of Beaumont Avenue, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at his home.

Born Oct. 14, 1928 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late David C. and Maude Butler Quinn and the husband of Mary Rose Mattingly Quinn.

He was a former employee of the J. W. McClellan Construction Company and worked in the press room of the Harrodsburg Herald for many years. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, an RA leader and a nursery daddy. He was a member of the Mercer County Civil Defense, the Harrodstown Chorus, and he was a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Vicki (Leonard) Mackey of Frankfort; one son, David (Linda) Quinn III of Harrodsburg; one sister, Catherine Terhune of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, Joe and Jerry Quinn, both of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Quinn; two sisters, Geneva Brack and Sandra Jane Proctor, and one grandchild, Melvena Rose Quinn.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Rick Snyder officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul and Danny Terhune, Mark, Tim, Joe and Steve Quinn, Billy Rawlings and Wayne Byrd.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons and Sunday school class members of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, and employees of the Harrodsburg Herald.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, The Harrodsburg Baptist Recreation and Outreach Center (The ROC), or to the Mercer County Humane Society.

GENEVIEVE RUST

Genevieve Rust, 71, Harrodsburg, wife of Earl H. Rust, died Mon, June 5, 2006 at her residence.

Born in Mt. Sterling, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucille Webb Purvis.

She was a retired supervisor for James River Corporation and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors, other than her husband, include: two sons, Espie Traylor, Nicholasville, and Johnny Rust, Mercer County; a daughter, Barbara (Arzo) Brown, Lexington; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, June 9, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Rev. Curtis Coots.

Entombment will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday.

MARGIE TAYLOR
Margie Taylor, 72, of Watershore Drive, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Nov. 28, 1933 in Jones County, MS, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Anna Mae Herrington Maxey and the widow of Buford Taylor.

She served in the U.S. Air Force, was co-owner of Buford Taylor Construction, and was a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sandy (David) Murphy and Terri (Leslie) Williams, both of Harrodsburg; one son, David C. (Ann) Taylor of Harrodsburg; one sister, Virgie Lofton of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 7 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lewis Walter and Jerel Coffey officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John David Taylor, Wes Murphy, John Elliott, Chuck Taylor, Josh and Clay Murphy and Scotty Williams.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund.

DORIS TROWER
Doris Hanna Trower, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington.

Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward Price and Lewis Houchins Hanna and the widow of Carlos Christopher Trower.

She was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and attended Transylvania University. She retired after 25 years as a secretary for the Harrodsburg city school system. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and a former member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. Her hobbies were playing bridge and reading.

Survivors include: one son, Carlos Christopher (Linda) Trower of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Ann Lewis (Sherman) Denny of Lexington; one brother, William J. (Jacqueline) Hanna of Lexington; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and former daughter-in-law, Frieda Smith Trower of Louisville.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 6 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Ken Kirkland, Edsel Brown, Max Hoover, and William, Jim, Bob and Tom Hanna.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church, 205 East Short St., Lexington, KY 40507, or to the Harrodsburg Christian Church, 305 South Main St., Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

The W.R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway was in charge of arrangements.

VIRGINIA VALLEY
Virginia Belle Valley, 77, of Bloomfield, died Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin H. Sr. and Mary Royalty Bowen, and the wife of the late Harold Valley.

She was a member of Bloomfield Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one daughter, Diana Baker of Bardstown; two sons, Glenn Valley, Frankfort and David Valley, Augusta, GA; five sisters, Bernice Thomas, Chaplin, Juanita Mitchell, Martha Robinson and Norma Royalty, all of Lawrenceburg, and Lula Euliano, Meadeville, PA; two brothers, Raymond Bowen, Harrodsburg, and Calvin H. Bowen Jr., Lawrenceburg; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Naaman Bowen.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Leland Parks officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Bloomfield Baptist Church Bereavement Fund.

MARIE WILLIS
Margaret Marie Price Baker Willis, 80, of Adams Lane, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at her home.

Born Dec. 26, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Eva Lena Carmickle Price and the widow of John Baker and Joe C. Willis.

She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer Manufacturing Company and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, the Hopewell Homemakers and the Constitution Square Dance Club. She was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed RV camping, crafts and sewing.

Survivors include: one daughter, Joyce (Connie) Darland of Harrodsburg; one son, William C. (Linda) Baker of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Irene Robinson and Helen Foster, both of Mercer County, and Rosie Lee Peavler of Burgin; one brother, Leroy Price of Pleasant Plain, OH; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, J. B. Price Sr. and James and Howard Price, and one sister, Lucille Sanders.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with David Collier and Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles and Tommy Robinson, Brad Otis, Gene and Scott Baker and Kevin Darland.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Pearl Sunday School class.

Visitation will be at the funeral chapel Thursday after 5 p.m. and Friday prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Bible Fund.

LAURA AKINS

Laura Jane “Loure” Brown Akins, 55, of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Woodford County, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at her residence.

She was the daughter of Louise Coy Brown of Versailles and the late Marion Roy Brown, Sr.

She was born July 6, 1950 in Lexington.

She was a former mailroom clerk with Unisys Corporation in Frankfort, and enjoyed fishing, bowling and yard sales.

She is survived by her husband of 11 years, William “Bill” Akins, Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Lovings of Richmond; four sons, Sonny (Gina Marie) Brinegar, Scott (Brandi) Akins, Chris (Heather) Akins, all of Lawrenceburg, Jason (Mary) Akins,VA; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Marie (Cleo) Cox, Stamping Ground, Linda (Bill) Popp, Versailles, Jean (Wayne) Becknell, Salvisa; one brother, Logan (Betty) Brown, Lawrenceburg.

Including her father, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Dakota Lee Brinegar; a sister, Joann Brown Larison Walters; and a brother, Marion Roy “Shorty” Brown, Jr.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 15, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg. Burial will be in Sand Spring Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 – 9 Wednesday at the funeral home.
