Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935 VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Dillard Gibson at Spring Hill cemetery January 1, 2001.

Attending were James Carey, Howard Howells, Curtiss Sherrow, Joe Harlow, Tom Denny and Roy Freeman.

Zenah Teater served as bugler.

Presenting the flag were Sgt. Kelly Copas and SPC Kereem Terrell of Fort Knox.

OTIS CLAYPOOL Sr.

Otis E. Claypool, 83, died Monday, January 25, 2001 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.

Born September 20, 1909 in Stanford he was a son of the late Charles and Dora Morehead Claypool.

He was retired from the City of Louisville Police Department and an independent truck driver.

He was a member of Lewis Masonic Lodge #191 for 50 years and a member of the Jeffersontown Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Otis E. Claypool Jr. and Stephen Claypool; four daughters, Carla C. Rudisaile, Lisa Hale, Deborah Claypool and Sarah Marlow; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 25, at the Foreman Funeral Home, Jeffersontown. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 1941 Bishop Lane, Suite 110, Louisville, KY 40218.

Visitation from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m.

WILLIE CURTSINGER

Willie Junior "Bill" Curtsinger, 65, of Terrell Ridge Road, Willisburg, died Thursday, January 18, 2001 at his residence.

Born May 10, 1935 in Washington County, he was a son of the late Taylor and Lola Milburn Curtsinger.

He was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include: his wife, Sue Anna Byrd Curtsinger, Harrodsburg; five sons, Ricky Curtsinger, Tony Curtsinger and Joseph Curtsinger, all of Harrodsburg, Timothy Curtsinger and Davis Curtsinger, both of Campbellsville; four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Sandra) Benham and Deborah Robinson, both of Springfield, Mrs. Michael (Tonyia) Deacon, Willisburg, and Mrs. Steven (Angela) Goodlett, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mrs. Ernest "Lizzie" Thompson, Willisburg; two brothers, Clem Make Curtsinger and Randall "Buddy" Curtsinger, both of Willisburg; 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Marshall "Pete" Curtsinger, and three sisters, Christine Chesser, Janie Hilbert and Lorene Jewell.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 21, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. W. W. Webb officiating. Burial was in Brush Grove Road Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Fred William Benham, Lawrence Dewayne Benham, Jonathan Eugene Trent, Samuel L. Deacon and Johnny Curtsinger.

CRIT BAILEY

Crit Baily, 86, of Royal Lane, Somerset, died Sunday, January 21, 2001 at his residence.

Born April 29, 1914 in Hyden, he was the son of the late Chester A. and Lucretia Napier Bailey. He was the widower of Ruth Nimzar Woodbury Bailey.

He was a retired bulldozer operator for Codel Construction and enjoyed wood carving and fishing.

Survivors include: three sons, Charles Edwin, (Geri) Bailey, Cincinnati, OH, Donnie Samuel (Carletta) Bailey, Inez, and Evans John (Lillie) Bailey, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Vicki Jo (Lowell) Boggs, Lawrenceburg; one brother, Walter Bailey, Covington, OH; five sisters, Rose Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell, both of London, Jean Wooten and Ethel Johnson, both of Hyden, and Frances Arioli, of HI; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, David Crit Bailey and Timothy Taylor Bailey, three brothers, Harold, Harton and Earl Bailey, three sisters, Jessica Jones, Nell Worley and Pearl Bailey.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, at Lange and New Brothers Family Funeral Home with Walter Bailey officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

VIRGINIA STRATTON

Virginia Dailey Stratton, 88, of 264 Catlett Lane, died Sunday, January 21, 2001 at her residence.

Born March 12, 1912 in Millersburg, she was the daughter of the late George Herman and Nettie Howard. She was the widow of Abe Stratton.

She was a homemaker, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Mayo Christian Church.

Survivors include: five sons, Abe Stratton, Jr., Wayne Stratton and Warren Stratton, all of Harrodsburg, Gary Stratton, Gravel Switch, and Drew Stratton, Washington County; seven daughters, Nancy Beaser, Ocean City, MD, Alice Stratton and Lana Turpin, both of Harrodsburg, Helen Mitchell and Sue Robertson, both of Frankfort, Gayle Arthur, Paintsville and Kay Cloyd, Mercer County; two brothers, Jack Howard, FL and George Howard, Radcliff; one sister, Ann Gullion, Walton; 52 grandchildren and a number of great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Delbert and Kenneth Stratton, two sisters, Madeline Howard and Ruth Gravitt, and two brothers, Luther Howard and Howard Fightmaster.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Edward Turpin officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Danny Matherly, Steven Stratton, Caleb Stratton, Joey Turpin, Rodney Cloyd, Michael Stratton, Lee Stratton and Robin Hall. Honorary bearers were the remaining grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

LAURA STINNETT

Laura B. Stinnett, 85, 883 Lexington Road, died Monday, January 22, 2001 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 17, 1915 in Leslie County, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Lucinda Fields Hensley. She was the widow of Corbett Stinnett.

She was a former midwife and a member of the United Pentecostal Church and liked to crochet.

Survivors include; two sons, Johnny Rector, Brodhead, Bill Rector, Lexington; two daughters, Ruth Lamb, Harrodsburg, Sue Beasley, Tyrone; three brothers, Harvey and Irvine Hensley, Brodhead and Elmer Leroy Hensley, GA; three sisters, Oma Abrams, Rockcastle County, Geneva Sparks, Brodhead and Alice Alexander, Waynesville, OH; 32 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Rector, one daughter, Bernice Wiley, three brothers, Henry, John and Ernest Hensley and one sister, Maggie Brewer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Allen Hensley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Wylie, Larry Joe Wylie, Cash Ray Moore II, Cassidy Moore, Chris Watts and Robby Comer.

Visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

VARNER LESTER

Varner Lester, 87, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at the Christian Health Center in Lexington.

Born May 20, 1913 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Minor and Zerilda Watts Lester.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where he was Deacon Emeritus and former Glad Hand Sunday School class member.

Survivors include: his wife, Hazel Trout Lester, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Anita (Jerry) Lester Bruce, Versailles, Leona Gay (Doug) Lester O'Banion, and Virginia Trout (Dan) Lester Yates, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, Horace Lester, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Mary Morris, Lakeland, Fl and Helen Carpenter, Lexington; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Varner Bruce and Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian O'Banion, Robert B. Morris, Darill Lester, David W. Lester, Douglas Carpenter and Lynn Nichols. Honorary bearers will be members of the Glad Hand Sunday School class, deacons of Harrodsburg Baptist Church, Nolan Nichols, Earl Kent Nichols, Tommy Nichols, Carroll Semones, Lyle Harmon, Stuart Warner, Aaron Gray, Bob Martin, Joe Marshall Warner, Johnny Warner and J. C. Cannon.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation.

Visitation will be at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.

NELSON JENNINGS

Nelson Jennings, 68, of 1190 Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at the Life Care Center in Morehead.

Born April 29, 1932 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Aaron and Zanie Petitt Jennings.

He was the owner of Jennings Excavating Company of Clearfield.

Survivors include: his wife, Christine Kidd Jennings, Clearfield one son, Gary Dale Jennings, Clearfield; one daughter, Rhonda Jean Peavler, Harrodsburg two brothers, Ottis Allen Jennings, Dayton, OH and Lloyd Jennings, Clearfield; one sister, Ruby Mynhier, Clearfield; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Denford, Noah Ray and Lonnie Jennings.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, at the Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, Morehead, with Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial will be in the Crix Cemetery.

Visitation after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

JUDITH LOGAN

Judith Gay Logan, Kankakee, IL, died January 10, 2001 in Kankakee.

She was born in Kankakee, May 28, 1955, daughter of the late Fred and Wanita Mosier. She was the widow of Gary M. Logan.

Survivors include: a son, Zachary Logan, Kankakee, IL; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Jane Logan, Harrodsburg; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Summerville, Harrodsburg and Mrs. Dana Tincher, Berea.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 13, at the Clancy-Gurmon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais with Rev. Beverly Marshall-Goodell officiating. Burial was in Deselm Cemetery.

BESSIE HARDIN

Bessie Hardin, 84, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born August 7, 1916 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John and Nannie Sallee Phillips. She was the widow of Clyde Hardin.

She was a homemaker and a member of the new Providence Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Floyd Miller Hardin and Eddie Dalton Hardin, both of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Wanda Jean Hardin and Joan Hardin, both of Harrodsburg, Barbara Joyce Davis, Kannapolis, NC; 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
