ARBIC DRURY

Arbic Edwards Drury, 89, of 645 Stratton Road, Salvisa, died Sunday, January 9, 2000 at her residence.

She was a native of Mercer County, widow of Roy Hollis Drury Sr., and daughter of the late J. C. Edwards and Ethel Stratton Edwards.

She was a former employee for Central Baptist Hospital, in natural management and a graduate of Fairview High School.

She was a member of the Mayo Christian Church, and a former Sunday School teacher for the adult women for many years.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. James (Betty Sue) Harmon of Salvisa; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Bob Drury and Roy Edwards Drury.

Funeral services were held Wednesday January 12, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jerry Perry officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Drury, Ricky Drury, Tony Drury, Carson Drury, Danny Ransdell and Mike Ransdell.

Contributions are suggested to Mayo Christian Church Building Fund.

BETTY GUTHRIE

Betty Guthrie, 71, of Cane Run Street, died Monday, January 10, 2000 at her residence.

Born December 23, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Hopper Patterson and the late James T. Patterson Sr.

She was a former teacher and a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Kentucky and attended Eastern Kentucky University graduate school.

She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Survivors include: two sons: Thomas L. Guthrie and Bradley S. Guthrie, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, James T. Patterson Jr., Harrodsburg; two sisters, Mary Relaford and Elinor Turner; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Guthrie.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, January 12, at Spring Hill Cemetery by Rev. Mark Girard. There was no visitation.

Pallbearers were Bobby Leonard, James T. Patterson III, George Woolcott Jr., James T. Patterson Jr., Robert Boggs and James P. Wolfe. Memorials may go to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church or one's favorite charity.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

MARY ROGERS

Mary Bell Rogers, 75, formerly of Harrodsburg and Georgetown, died Monday, January 10, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born March 5, 1924 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Cleve and Nancy Click Cummins.

She was a member of Penn Avenue Baptist Church in Georgetown and had been a housekeeper at Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Survivors include: three sons, William L. Rogers, Harrodsburg, Danny D. Rogers, Lexington and Owen Douglas Rogers, Nicholasville; one sister, Abbie Cummins, Harrodsburg; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Dean Kelly and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Sageser officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Willie B. Horn, Chris Cummins, Melvin Cummins, Jimmy Cummins, Roger Cummins, Don Billy Rogers, Jim Wheeler, Ralph Trayner,.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

HOLLIE DEMAREE

Hollie C. Demaree, 85, of 615 Greenwood Drive, died Monday, January 10, 2000 at his residence.

Born July 26, 1914 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Kavanaugh and Mattie Sutherland Demaree.

He was a licensed funeral director for Ransdell Funeral Chapel, an army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and chair for eight years, Sunday School teacher and church treasurer for four years.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Lions Club, Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM, American Legion and a lifetime member of the DAV.

Survivors include: his wife, Lottie B. Shirley Demaree, Harrodsburg; one son, Glendon C. Demaree, Lawrenceburg; one brother, Clifton Demaree, Louisville; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Anness, Dr. Charles Hatcher, Skeeter Reed, Harold Sutherland, Robert Gritton and Brennan Royalty. Honorary bearers will be deacons of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church Building Fund.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of service.

BILLIE HEMBREE

Billie Anne Hembree, 66, of 1048 Riverside Drive, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at her residence.

Born October 22, 1933 in Bell County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Katie Hill Shepard.

She was a homemaker and member of the Southside Christian Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Roy O. Hembree, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Patricia Anne Hembree Guadinier, Mercer County; one sister, Nicki Miller, IL; two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Sam Stow officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be elders of the Southside Christian Church.

Memorial are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the time of service Thursday.

IRENE POWELL

Irene Arnold Gray Powell, 81, of 131 North Jackson Street, Perryville, died Monday, January 10, 2000 at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born February 9, 1918 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late John Dorsey and Georgia Etta Arnold. She was the former wife of the late Henry Steward Gray.

She was a member of the Perryville Baptist Church where she served as a secretary for her Sunday school class for many years. She was a seamstress and was retired from American Greetings Corp. Of Danville and a former employee of Corning Glass Works in Danville.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sherry Clark, Atlanta, GA, Beverly Warren, Tulsa, OK and Trena Watts, Harrodsburg; four sisters, Louise Kramer, Danville, Clariece Gorley, Jean Whitlock, both of Gravel Switch, and Ann Kellington, Asheville, NC; two brothers, Pete Arnold, Perryville and Ray Arnold, Eubank; six grandchildren and a former husband, Bill Powell of Lebanon.

Funeral services will be held at Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville, Friday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Perryville.

Pallbearers will be Dan Clark, Ken Warrren, Bill Watts, Phil Clark, Jon Clark and Wes Watts. Honorary bearers will be other grandchildren, Tiffany Watts, Caleb Warren and Kyle Warren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BOYD HAGGARD

Boyd Gladstone "Tony" Haggard, 78, of 1078 Lanes Mill Road, Lawrenceburg, died Friday, January 14, 2000 at his residence.

Born September 30, 1921 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late A. F. and Lunda Randolph Haggard.

He was a retired farmer and an army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: three daughters, Opal (Howard) Phillips and Jeanette (Don) Robinson, both of Lawrenceburg, and Paulette Morris of Mercer County; one sister, Ruby H. Dick, Science Hill; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Sipple Haggard; one son-in-law, Aubrey P. Morris; one grandson, Duane Phillips, and three sisters, Neta H. Dick, Hazel H. Gaddis and Beatrice Haggard.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 17, at Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Bro. John Charles officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Darrin Phillips, Jaime Phillips, Richard Boggs, Tony Robinson, Randy Robinson and Lee Sayer.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

MARTHA AKERS

Martha Gray Akers, 84, of Bardstown, formerly of Bloomfield, died Monday, January 17, 2000 at Colonial Health & Rehab Center.

A native of Cynthiana, she was the daughter of the late John Ira and Mary Elizabeth Darnell Gray. She was the widow of Astor K. Akers.

She was a retired employee of the Nelson County Board of Education, having taught at the old Bloomfield Middle School, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bardstown.

Survivors include: one son, Alan Kent Akers, Sr., Bardstown; one daughter-in-law, Linda Akers; one sister, Dru Wearen, Harrodsburg; two brothers, John Ira Gray Jr., Florence, and Julian Gray, Cynthiana; two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dave and James Carl Gray; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Wierbaugh.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 19, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bloomfield.

EFFIE MONTGOMERY

Effie (Eva) J. Connor Montgomery, 84, formerly of Danville, died Saturday, January 15, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

Born, December 12, 1915 in Estill County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Nanny White Johnson. She was the widow of John Conner.

She was a retired employee of Arnold's Greenhouse and a member of the Herrington Lake Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include: one son, Billy Ray Conner, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 18, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Hamp Wooten officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery in Danville.

Pallbearers were Stanley Conner, Billy Conner, Jr., Chad Wooten, Durand Lay, Derek Robinson and Darty Hart.

RUBY RELEFORD

Ruby C. Releford, 81, of 573 Cooke Avenue, died Friday, January 14, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born April 12, 1918 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Owen and Ophia Brown Trimble, and the widow of Ottes "Billy" Releford.

She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass and a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

Survivors include: four sons, Cleo and Donald Releford, Harrodsburg, Leroy Releford, Parksville, and Billie C. Releford, Danville; two brothers, Lloyd Trimble, Harrodsburg, and Floyd Trimble, Jeffersontown; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Forrest Trimble.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 17, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Everett Priddy officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Trimble, Lee, Scott, David and Kenneth Releford Jr., Robbie Wilham and Kevin McMullin. Honorary bearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or Heritage Hospice.
