Thelma Nichols, 101, of Cardinal Meadows, died Thursday, February 15, 2001 at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Danville.
Born October 4, 1899 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Mock Thomas and Sarah Bell Foster Nichols.
She worked as a caregiver for children and the elderly. She was a member of Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was the oldest member and a charter member.
She is survived by four nieces, Karen Hayner, Raleigh, NC, Katherine Catlett and Thelma Long, both of Harrodsburg, and Nina Mallory, Danville; three nephews, Lynn Nichols, Earl Kent Nichols and Nolan Nichols, all of Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert, Earl and Eldred Nichols.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Owens officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lynn Nichols, Nolan Nichols, Earl Kent Nichols, Gene Mallory, Jerry Catlett and Bobby Catlett.
Memorials are suggested to Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

ARTHUR MEAUX Sr.
Arthur B. Meaux Sr., 81, formerly of Salvisa, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the Thompson-Wood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Born April 10, 1919, he was the son of the late Vance Meaux, Jr. and Eva Cunningham Meaux.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a former employee of the W. K. Hikes family in Louisville for over 20 years.
Survivors include: three sons, Arthur B. (Elaine) Meaux, Jr., Chicago, IL, John (Julie) Meaux, Des Moines, IA, and Mark (Marilyn) Meaux, Louisville; two daughters, Shalonda Meaux, Louisville, and Wilma Annette Meaux, Cleveland, OH; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Meaux.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, at the Parks Funeral Home with Dr. H. D. Cockerham officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National cemetery in Nicholasville.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Meaux, Jr., Mark Meaux, John Meaux, Sherman Smith, Leroy Caldwell and Rodney Baker.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and after 7:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at the funeral home.

EMOGENE ROY
Emogene Roy, 77, of 218 Bourne Ave., Somerset, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
Born October 9, 1923 in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late Edgar D. and Flossie Godby Wall. She was the widow of Clarence Roy.
She was an inventory clerk at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and a member of Southern Heights Christian Church.
Survivors include: five daughters, Brenda (J. T. ) Murphy, Bethelridge, Joyce Roy, Harrodsburg, Barbara (Jimmy) Moore, Somerset, Peggy, (Randall) Clark, Junction City, Sherry Meece, Somerset; three sisters, Marie Dick, Goshen, OH, Freida Jasper, Mintonville, and Lucille Durham, Liberty; one son, Danny (Mary) Roy, Ann Arbor, MI; two step sons, Corky Roy, Stanton, Bobby Joe Roy, OH; 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Roy, a daughter, Martha Katherine Roy, one granddaughter, Melissa Murphy Peck, and one daughter-in-law, Faye Roy.
Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Monday, February 19 with Bro. Joel Patton and Bro. Keith Short officiating. Burial was in Valley Oak Cemetery, Argyle.
Memorials are suggested to the Southern Heights Christian Church Building Fund.

RUTH SIMS
Ruth Hourigan Sims, 77, of 3216 Williamsburg Pike, Batavia, OH, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, January 12, 2001 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, OH.
Born October 14, 1923 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late James Robert Hourigan and Clydia Bell Rexroat Hourigan.
Survivors include: her husband, Edgar "Fuzzy" Sims, Batavia, OH; one son, Danny Sims, and one daughter, Barbara Potrafke, both of OH; one sister, Mary Helen Zeliff, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Horace Hourigan, Harrodsburg and Thomas Hourigan, Springfield; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Stanley Hourigan, and one sister, Josephine Powell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 16, at the Maham Funeral Home in Williamsburg, OH. Burial was in Williamsburg Cemetery.

FRANCES SHAFER
Frances D. Shafer, 88, of Heritage Manor, Shelbyville, IN, formerly of Mercer County, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 at Heritage Manor, Shelbyville, IN.
Born March 24, 1912 in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late John Aster and Ferris Lucy Guy McGuire. She was the widow of Dr. Cecil Wendell Shafer.
She was a retired Special Education Teacher for the Jefferson County school system and was a member of the Burgin Christian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
She was a graduate of the Arkansas State Teacher's college.
Survivors include: two sons, James Shafer, Shelbyville, IN and John Shafer, AK, three sisters, Elizabeth Clifton and Nancy Faulkner, both of Lexington, and BenEtta McCray, NC; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 21, at the Burgin Christian Church with Rev. Linda Gearheart and Rev. Scott Shafer officiating. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville.
Memorials are suggested to the Burgin Christian Church.

J. W. WILHAM
J. W. Wilham, 78, of Dudley Drive, Murray, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Born June 28, 1922 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John Wilham Sr. and Amanda Brown Wilham.
He was a retired businessman and had owned Kenlake Marine for 30 years.
He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Jayne Wilham, Murray; two daughters, Sharon (L. W.) Patterson and Kimberly (Harry) Weatherly, both of Atlanta, GA; one son, John E. (Cindi) Wilham, Paducah; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Garnett Wilham, and three sisters, Roselle Phillips, Maggie Mattingly, and Myrtle May Wilham.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 20, at the J. H. Churchill Funeral Home, Murray, with Rev. Jim Simmons officiating. Entombment was in Murray City Mausoleum.

CLEO LEWIS
Cleo Lewis, 68, of 152 Oakland Lane, died Monday, February 19, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born January 31, 1933 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Golie and Minnie Robinson Lewis.
He was a retired Kentucky Utilities workers and a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his best friend, Laura Byrd, Harrodsburg; five brothers, James A. Lewis, Randell Lewis, Goodloe Lewis, and Marvin Lewis, all of Harrodsburg, Goldie Lewis, Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marshall Lewis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 21, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Releford and Bro. Gilbert Robinson officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Koettel, Bobby Lewis, Haldon Lewis, Randy Lewis, Ricky Lewis and Butch Merchant. Honorary bearers were Herman Taylor, Willis Hendren, Gary Peavler and deacons of the Dry Branch Baptist Church.

Burmah Elizabeth Smith, a resident of Sarasota for 28 years, died Saturday, February 24, 2001.
Survivors include: a daughter, Kristen B. Agrell; a son, Justin S. Agrell; her mother, Juantia G. Smith, Middlesboro; two brothers, Kirby (Donna E.) Smith III, Middlesboro, and W. Vance (Elizabeth) Smith, Harrodsburg; one sister, Lynne Coughlin, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Middlesboro.

MARTHA WORLEY
Martha Christopher Worley, 84, Danville Road, Perryville, died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born November 5, 1916 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Letcher and Ella Henry Christopher.
She was former owner and founder of Perryville Furniture Mart, where she worked for over 50 years, and was a former member of the West End Homemakers. She was Secretary of the Ruby Bohanon Sunday School Class at the Perryville Baptist Church where she was a member.
Survivors include: her husband, E. M. Worley, Perryville; one son, Sammy Worley, Lexington; three daughters, Barbara Brummett, Perryville, Martha Moore Gray, Harrodsburg, Mary Dell Morgan, Perryville; two sisters, Betty Johnson, Danville, Mary Ann Odom of Farmerville, LA.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 27, at the Perryville Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Brummett and Rev. Ron Holman officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run cemetery in Mercer County.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Martha Worley Memorial Fund, c/o Farmers National Bank in Perryville, Heritage Hospice, or the Joni Wilder Memorial Scholarship Fund.

JOHN PRICE
John Vincent Price, 45, of Danville, died Saturday, February 24, 2001 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born July 3, 1955 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late John Lee and Frances Lucille Price.
He was a brick mason and a member of the Alum Springs Church of God.
Survivors include: two sisters, Iona May Dean, Harrodsburg, and Lisa Lucille Hunter, Junction City; two brothers, Joseph Matthew Price and James Thomas Price, both of Danville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 27, at the Alum Springs Church of God with Keith Willoughby and Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in the Whited Cemetery.
