Samuel W. Ballard, 80, of 456 Mockingbird Drive, died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born September 27, 1920 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Charlie H. and Lora Price Ballard.
He worked as a supervisor for Kentucky Utilities at the E. W. Brown Power Plant. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he was a deacon and treasurer for many years.
He was a member of Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM and the American Legion.
Survivors include: his wife, Mildred Dennis Ballard, Harrodsburg; one son, Samuel "Dennis" Ballard, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Harold (Jewell) Ballard, Harrodsburg, Bob (Dora Dean) Ballard, Garrard County; one sister, Ruby (Richard) Carpenter, Brentwood, TN. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Mauldin.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 28, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Ballard, David Ballard, Charles Ballard, Ballard Mauldin, John Ripy Jr., Andrew Dennis and Chris Carpenter. Honorary bearers were deacons of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Baptist Family Life Center or one's favorite charity.

JAMES HAYDEN Jr.
James William "Billy" Hayden, Jr., age 62, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Louisville, died Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born July 6, 1938 in Paducah, he was the son of the late James William and Julia Elizabeth Gibbons Hayden, Sr. He was the widower of Judy Hayden.
He was a former plumber having worked in Louisville and Lexington for thirty years. He was a Catholic and avid golfer.
Survivors include; two brothers, Gus Hayden, Jacksonville, FL and Lonnie Hayden, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Joan Azinger, Portland, OR and Judy Cecil, Louisville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herby Hayden.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 26, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Joseph Muench officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Cecil, John Cecil, Jr., Mike Qualls, and Joe Osborne.

BLONDELLA HARMON
Blondella Harmon, 73, of Cornishville Road, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born February 16, 1928 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Lizzie Mae Robinson Cornish. She was the widow of Marshall D. Harmon.
She was an employee of the Mercer County School System and a member of the Cornishville Baptist Church where she was the Sunday School Secretary and Assistant Treasurer for several years.
She is survived by: one son, Doug H. Harmon, Cornishville; one brother, Royce Cornish, Cornishville; one sister, Christine Young, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Harmon, a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Harmon, a brother, T. J. Robinson, and a half brother, Woodrow Robinson.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 23, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brandon Harmon, Wesley Harmon, Troy Harmon, Mitchell Harmon, Eugene Harmon, Billy Joe Robinson, Mike Robinson, Dennis Robinson, and Richard Tingle. Honorary bearers were Devon Lester, Billy Grider, Dudley Huffman, Jr., Donald Litterel, George Hendrix and Greg Brown.

CHARLOTTE SULLIVAN
Charlotte A. Sullivan, 59, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at the Hospice Care Center.
Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lynn and Lenora Lee Littleton Parks.
She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and a private duty nurse.
Survivors include: three sons, Rick (Terry) Tunell, Randy (Sharon) Tunnell, both of Lexington, and Robert (Violet) Tunnell, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Ramona Johnson, Lexington, and Kathy (Andy) Ewing, both of Knoxville, TN; one brother, Robert (Rosa) Parks, Jr., Casper, WY; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday February 23, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington with Rev. Richard Easterling officiating. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.

HOMER BARNETT
Homer Barnett, 90, formerly of College Manor, died Friday, February 23, 2001 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born November 8, 1910 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Callie Keeler and Artie Yeager Barnett. He was the widower of Nila Drury Barnett.
He was a retired Kentucky State Parks employee of Old Fort Harrod State park and a farmer.
He was a member of the Grapevine Christian Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher, elder and deacon.
Survivors include: three sons, Harry Barnett, Harrodsburg, James Barnett, Prattville, AL and Phillip Barnett, Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Sara Ann Greene, Junction City; four sisters, Ruby Yates, Lula Foster and Vivian Anderson, all of Lexington, and Eulah Patton, Marion; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Barnett, and two brothers, Willis and Burnice Barnett.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 25, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lonnie, Jeff, Rod, Greg, Brad, and Chad Barnett and Steve Lynn. Honorary bearers were Dr. Russ Shearer, Glenn Reynolds, Marsdon B. Lake, Wayne Reynolds, and Eddy Cartwright.

IRMISE LATHROP
Irmise Lathrop, 80, of 408 Haddix Street, died Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the McDowell Place in Danville.
Born September 10, 1920 in Sumner, FL, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Irene Pullen Smallwood.
She was the retired owner of Tastee Freeze of Harrodsburg, a member of the Mercer County Senior Citizens, and the Women's Auxiliary of American Legion in Jacksonville, FL.
She was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Charity Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert Morgan Lathrop, Jr., of Henderson, NV, James Bruce Lathrop, Louisville, and John David Lathrop, Lexington; one daughter, Linda Ann Pinkston, Harrodsburg; four brothers, Burland Smallwood, Raymond Parks Smallwood, Bill Smallwood, Vince Smallwood, all of FL; two sisters, Rachel Denmark and Vivian Mulkey, both of FL; six grandchildren, one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

JAMES BURTON
James E. Burton, 56, of 400 Talmage-Mayo Road, died Friday, February 23, 2001 at his residence.
Born April 25, 1944 in Mercer County, he was the son of John M. Burton and the late Velma Clifford Burton.
He had worked in the mixing department for Corning Glass and was a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to his father, survivors include: his wife, Betty Isham Burton, Harrodsburg; two sons, James Edward Burton II, Harrodsburg, David R. Peavler, Burgin; one daughter, Karen J. Burton Coontz, Harrodsburg; three brothers, John Craig Burton, Harrodsburg, Glave V. Burton, Harrodsburg, Donald Wayne Burton, Hustonville; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 25, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Preston and Howard Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery.

SPICY SALLEE
Spicy Sallee, 92, of 231 Campbell Drive, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.
Born April 9, 1908 in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Rosetta Cantrell Slone. She was the widow of Albert Sallee and Sam Harlow.
She was a retired switching clerk for Western Union in Cincinnati after 20 years and a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Rose Watts, Harrodsburg, Nina Sallee, Olney, TX, Lelia Henley, Frankfort; two sons, Ansel Harlow, Loveland, OH, Joseph Harlow, Cincinnati, OH; two step sons, David Shaeffer, FL and Jerry Sallee, Cincinnati; one step daughter, Sharon Erickson, FL; 27 grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Sloan and Milburn Harlow, and one daughter, Marilyn Snow.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 24, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with minister Matthew Atha and Danny Sallee officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Watts, Butch Sallee, Terry Sallee, Dave Harlow, Joseph Harlow and Shane Harlow.

GLADYS SHEWMAKER
Gladys Yankey Shewmaker, 91, of Main Street, Mackville, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center in Springfield.
Born July 1, 1910 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late J. D. and Isabell Henry Yankey. She was the widow of Lee Shewmaker.
She was a member of the Mackville United Methodist Church, and served for many years as the manager of the cafeteria of the Mackville High School and Elementary School.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Ann) Harber, London; two sisters, Dorothy Monroe, Chapel Hill, NC, Mary Frances Moore, Harrodsburg; three brothers, Billy Yankey, Mackville, George Yankey, Jeffersontown and Tom Yankey, Campbellsville; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Madeline Joyce Shewmaker and Shirlene Kaetzel.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 20, at the Mackville United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Atherton and Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial was in the Peter cemetery at Mackville.
Pallbearers were Ray Kaetzel, Jacob Harber, Mike Yankey, Kenneth Riley, Bob Riley and Gary Scott.
