Winfrey Lavon Drury, 80, formerly of Anderson County, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born August 24, 1920 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Chester and Ethel Yeager Drury. He was the widower of Louise Welch Drury.
He was a retired farmer, a former welder for Saunier Brothers Co., in Lexington and a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of the Lawrenceburg Church of Christ.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Donnie (Winkie Sue) Miller, Nicholasville; two sisters, Mrs. J. P. (Lucille) Dennis, Lexington, and Dorothy Cunningham, Lawrenceburg.; six grandchildren, including Kent Lunsford, Harrodsburg, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Scottie Drury and a bother, Leon Drury.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 22, at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Burt Paden officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
PRENTICE SHEWMAKER
Prentice Shewmaker, 89, of Mason Avenue, Danville, died Monday, September 18, 2000, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born February 20, 1911, in Marion County, he was a son of the late Johnny B. and Della Bagwell Shewmaker.
He was retired from the state Department of Highways and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Irene Hays Shewmaker, Danville; two sons, Prentice "Derotha" Shewmaker, Danville, Talmadge "Tuck" Shewmaker, Parksville; one daughter, Betty Marie Cummins, Harrodsburg; one sister, Hallie Carpenter, Perryville; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 21, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville, with Rev. Bill Hall and Rev. Mark Peyton officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were grandsons, and Kenneth Grubbs and Joey Lynch. Honorary bearers were granddaughters.
Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice or Gethsemane Baptist Church building fund.
MONTIE WITHERS
Montie E. Luttrell Withers, 70, died Thursday, September 21, 2000 in Perryville.
Born February 1, 1930 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Braxton and Edith Moran Luttrell. She was the widow of Dallas Ray Withers.
She was a farmer, a member of Magnolia Street Christian Church, an avid quilter, University of Kentucky sports fan and a Cincinnati Reds baseball fan.
Survivors include: three sons, Glenn Withers, Merrillville, IN, Vertreece Withers, Versailles and Vernon Withers, Perryville; two brothers, Wayne Luttrell, Liberty and Donald Luttrell, Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Warren and Flora Luttrell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 23, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rabon Warren officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbeares were Walter Parsons, Darrell Dickerson, and Tony Perkins.
JOHN NALL
John Louis Nall, 65, of Rineyville, died Friday, September 22, 2000 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
Born in Hardin County, he was a son of the late Roy and Mattie Miller Nall. He was the widower of Carolyn Rose Nall.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Iron Workers Local #70.
Survivors include: three sons, David L. Nall, Elizabethtown, Wendell A. Nall, Burgin, and Joseph "Richie" Nall of Rineyville; two daughters, Deborah Thompson of Lanesville, IN and Donna Colasanti of Rineyville; one brother, W. D. Nall, New Haven; three sisters, Jean Kasey and Virginia Taylor, both of Elizabethtown and Blanche Pate of Crestwood; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James A. Nall, Edward W. Nall and Rudy Nall, and two sisters, Nellie Martinez and Clara Cecil.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 26, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Rev. Stanley Osborne officiating. Burial was in Rineyville Cemetery.
PAUL THORNTON
Paul B. Thornton, 80, of Todd’s Point, died Saturday, September 23, 2000 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late John Grant and Malinda Jane Wright Thornton. He was the widower of Catherine Mathus Thornton.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter and attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during World War II.
Survivors include: two sons, Paul E. Thornton, Shelbyville, and Jimmy Thornton, Todd’s Point; three daughters, Pam Johnson, Shelbyville, Annie Price, Waddy, and Lori Witt, Mt. Eden; one sister, Mary Lyons, Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 26, at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Todd’s Point.

ROSA PITTMAN
Rosa Mae Pittman, 76, of 570 Arden Avenue, died Sunday, September 24, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 28, 1924 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Webster and Gracie Long Miller. She was the widow of Albert Kenneth Pittman.
She was a housekeeper and a member of the Miracle Revival Church of God in Morrill, KY.
Survivors include: two sons, Albert Thomas Pittman, Liberty, and Darrell Raymond Pittman, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Shirley Bernice Yocum, Harrodsburg, Charlotte Rose Salazar, Junction City, and Effie Alene Pittman, Stanford; six brothers, Marshall Miller, Kenneth Miller and Nicholas Miller, all of Indianapolis, IN, Thomas Miller, Danville, Jerry Campbell, Liberty and Gary Campbell, Stanford; five sisters, Rachel Cooper, Esther Miller and Geneva Miller, all of Indianapolis, Connie Atwood, Somerset, Joanne Smith, Danville; 20 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Pittman, Jr., two brothers, Samuel and Earl Miller, and two sisters, Gloria and Barbara Sue Miller.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 27, at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Liberty with Rev. Ed Johns officiating. Burial was in the Peavey Cemetery, Casey County.
Pallbearers were Thomas Pittman, Jr., Keith Haggard, Clint Daugherty, John Couch, James Allen Lyons, and Matthew Lyons.
GRACE BLACK
Grace Lee Black, 82, of 232 Fort Street, died Monday, September 25, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born December 9, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Riley Preston and Rosa Lee Barr Hulett.
She was a retired Re-Dryer with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and was a member of the Harrodsburg Church of God.
Survivors include: one son, Ron Black, Mercer County; one brother, James O. Hulett, Mercer County; two sisters, Mary Rose Royalty, Lexington and Neoma Lee Medley, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son Zelbert Black, Jr.; and one grandson, Ron Black, Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 27, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
ROBERT DeFEET Jr.
Robert Lee DeFeet, 77, died Friday, September 8, 2000.
Born November 25, 1923 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Robert Lee DeFeet Sr., and Hettie Jane Rexroat.
He was baptized at the New Friendship Baptist Church in Russell Springs.
He was a life long member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV, and served in France and Germany during World War II and earned several medals.
Survivors include: his wife, Lucy Marie Stargel DeFeet, Sardinia, OH; four daughters, Carol Lee (George) Ely, and Jane (Forrest) Jackson, both of Cincinnati, OH; Joyce Mae (Delbert) Ballou, Goshen; June Faye (Roger) McPherson, Cinnaminson, NJ; two sisters, Ruby DeFeet Robertson Riley and Hazel DeFeet Helm, both of Burgin; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brohter, Raymond Lookout DeFeet, one daughter, Judy Marie DeFeet and a granddaughter, Rebecca Renee Jackson.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 10, at the Beam-Fender Funeral Home, Sardinia, OH. Burial was in the Sardinia Cemetery with military honors.

LOWELL HAWES
Lowell D. Hawes, 63, of 3305 Harrison Rd., Hollansburg, OH, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at his residence.
Born February 24, 1937 in Darke County, OH, he was the son of the late Waldo and Edna Cook Hawes.
He retired in 1991 as a plumber, having worked for himself, many years for Bud Ream Plumbing and Heating, as well as for Plumbsmith Plumbing and Heating.
He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Greenville Baptist Temple in Greenville, OH.
Survivors include: his wife, Margaret M. Maloy Hawes, Hollansburg; three sons, Larry (Dee) Hawes, David (Lisa) Hawes, both of Harrodsburg, and Louie (Marcie) Hawes, Union City, OH; one daughter, Lisa Harless, Greenville, OH; two brothers, Gene Hawes, Union City, IN, and Charles Hawes, Greenville, OH; one sister, Sara Mae Lease, Greenville, OH; nine grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Richard, Kenneth and Robert Hawes, and one sister, Frances Ungericht.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, OH, with Rev. Levi Whisner and Bro. Frank Ruhl officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, OH.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
WILLIAM TATE
William Taylor Tate, 64, 445 East Factory street, died Monday, September 25, 2000 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 26, 1936 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Nora Quinn Tate.
He was a retired tree surgeon.
Survivors include: one son, Richard Allen (Ricky) Tate, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Shirley Tate Hooper, Harrodsburg; one sister, Edna Tate Burchett, Junction City; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 28, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry E. Moore and Bro. Sam Stow officiating. Burial will be in the Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Chapman, Arnett Griffin, Ronald Tate, Johnnie Burchett, Jimmy Burchett and Terry Fowler.
Visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
MILDRED MAYES
Mildred Dawson Mayes, 72, of 611 Cane Run Street, died Monday, September 25, 2000 at her residence.
Born May 8, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie "Spinner" and Ruby Roney Alford.
She was a retired shipping clerk for Corning Glass and was a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Maurice Mayes, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Patricia Moore, Harrodsburg; one sister, Ann Webb, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Story officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be T. C. Claunch, Joe Hurst, Dr. John Baughman, Mark Schuster, Marvin Robinson and Ron Bradford.
