EVA CORNISH

Eva L. Cornish, 83, of Bryan, OH, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born February 21, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Kaleb and Maggie Votaw Gowins.

She was a former Cricketeer and Irvin Air Chute employee and was a Baptist.

Survivors include: one son, Hollie B. Cornish, Bryan, OH; one daughter, Shirley (Robert L.) Burrus, Bryan, OH; one brother, Arlie B. Gowins, Bryan, OH; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild and two brothers, Clarence and Tal Gowins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Byron Jessup officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Marvin Gowins, Tony Gowins, Larry Gowins, Joe Gowins, Troy Gowins and Larry Wayne Gowins.

MARY LESTER

Mary Pittman Lester, 84, formerly of Perryville Road, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born April 15, 1916 in Nevada, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Hogue Pittman. She was the widow of Irvin Edward Lester.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one step daughter, Lucille Duran, Denver, CO.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 10, at the Spring Hill cemetery with Bro. Steve Fegenbush officiating.

HOWARD HAGER

Howard Hager, 71, of 1411 Cornishville Road, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at his residence.

Born June 14, 1929 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Flora Janie Brewer Hager.

He was a farmer and an elder and member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and was an army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include: his wife, Bettie Hager, Harrodsburg; one son, Howard Wayne (Linda) Hager, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Lois Jean (Lee) Novak, Greenville, MI, one brother, Robert Johnson, Lexington; one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Westerfield officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the chapel from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:30 a.m. Friday.

BONNIE McRAY

Bonnie McRay, 77, of Belmont Village, Louisville, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

Born September 27, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Iva Corn Long. She was the widow of Johnny McRay.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and an avid UK basketball fan.

Survivors include: two sisters, Virginia Emmetsberger, Louisville, Marie McRay, Harrodsburg; one brother, Loman Long, AR. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosella Long and Mildred Huff.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 7, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Beth Guy and Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kevin Sallee, Norman Sallee, Kenneth Long, Dudley Long and Keith Emmetsberger.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast YMCA, 9400 Mill Brook Rd., Louisville, KY 40223.

VELMA MERRICK

Velma Merrick, age 71, formerly of 445 East Factory Street, Died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born August 24, 1929 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Caleb and Nettie Redford Hafley.

She was a member of Shakertown Baptist Church, an avid quilter and a retired housekeeping employee at Beaumont Inn.

Survivors include: two sons, Randy Porter, Campbellsville, Billy Porter, Gravel Switch; one daughter, Judy Stoddard, Burgin; one brother, Frank Hafley, Lebanon; three sisters, Geraldine Green, Lebanon, Sarah Overstreet, FL, Margaret Cox, Forkland; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Hill, Fannie Hayden and Ida Hafley, and one grandson, Sergeant Brandon Scott Johnson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 7, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Smith and Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lester Hayden, Junior Green, Dale Hill, Robert Hill, Carl Hill and Tommy Jewel.

WILLIAM PHILLIPS

William Edward Phillips, 79, of 713 Moberly Road, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at his residence.

Born October 14, 1921 in Danville, he was the son of the late Edward and Katheline Perkins Phillips.

He was a retired employee of Cricketeer, a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and attended Deep Creek Baptist Church.

He was a retired US Navy Master Chief, having served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Survivors include: his wife, Virginia (Penny) Phillips, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Sally Isham, Harrodsburg, Joyce Bousman, Harrodsburg; one sister, Edwina Young, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Milburn Young and a sister, Ruth Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, April 14, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Koch officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Troy Young, Dustin Young, Mark Young, Tony Young, Phillip Young and Eddie Young. Honorary bearers will be Clay Bradford, Harold Davis, Robert Sallee, Kyle Pankey and Terry Bradford.

DEBRA STADLING

Debra N. Stradling, 46, of 134 Camp Kennedy Road, Bryantsville, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.

Born June 4, 1954 in Memphis, TN, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Sarah Williams Nichols.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include: her husband, Ken W. Stradling, Bryantsville; two sons, Chris Hart and Will Hart, both of Lexington; one daughter, Sarah Kathleen Stradling, Bryantsville; one brother, Rodney Nichols, Richmond, VA; three sisters, Jean Fitzpatrick, Simpsonville, Nancy McCune, Cincinnati, OH and Shar Sears, Chester, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Harris officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rusty West, Brandon Stapleton, John Romond, Will Hart, Asa Hawes and Edward Elsnar.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

MYRTLE TAYLOR

Myrtle Taylor, 89, of 403 N. Main Street, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born September 12, 1911 in McClain, IL, she was the daughter of the late Ive and Mattie Pearson Lambert.

She had worked as a seamstress for Cricketeer and Jonathan Logan and was a member of Grapevine Christian Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Donald E. Taylor, Lexington, Bobby Taylor, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Lorraine Tackett, Danville; one brother, Clifford Lambert, Harrodsburg; one sister, Opal Rogers, Burgin; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Don Taylor, Don Allen, Don Pinkston, Keith Pinkston, Chris Lay and Marion Rogers.

Memorials are suggested to the Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

RON TAYLOR

Ron Taylor, 50, of 301 West Main Street, Burgin, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born June 23, 1950 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Marvin and Alma Sims Taylor.

He was formerly employed with R&P Chimney Company, was a musician and a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one brother, Kenneth (Phyllis) Taylor, Mercer County. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Taylor.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

IDA VOTAW

Ida Belle Baker Votaw, 86, of Mackville, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Born January 2, 1915 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late James Lee and Bertha Gulley Baker.

She was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

Survivors include: her husband, Marvin Votaw, Mackville; one son, Melvin (Donna) Votaw, Mackville; one daughter, Mildred (James) Baker, Mackville; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Baker, and a sister, Mable Huffman.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Kelley Baker and Bro. Greg Bowen officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in Willisburg.

Pallbearers were Jerry Wayne Baker, Marvin Wayne Votaw, Melvin Wallace Votaw, James Edwin Baker, Ricky Lee and J. R. Baker. Honorary bearers were Anthony Baker, Steven Lee, Granville Moore and Darrel Baker.
