CHARLES WATTS

Charles Edward "Mouse" Watts, 57, of Siloam Springs, AR, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at his residence.

Born September 16, 1943 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of John and Mary Curtsinger Watts.

He was a truck driver for Georges and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Harrodsburg.

He was a veteran of the US Navy.

Survivors include: his wife, Janie Jones Watts, Siloam Springs, AR; three sons, John, Michael and Christopher Watts, all of Danville; two step sons, Greg Butler, Springdale, AR, James Butler, Tulsa, OK; two step daughters, Kathy Sanders, Fayetteville, AR and Lynn Maestri, Tonitown, AR; two brothers, John Willie and Thomas Watts, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Edna Merriman, Harrodsburg, Barbara Robinson, Lawrenceburg; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one step grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, at the Sisco Funeral Chapel, Springdale, AR, with Larry Spencer officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bud Kirk, Doug Acuff, Gary George, Robert Smith, Sid Rieff and Hershel Hardin. Honorary bearers were Otto Jech and Gene George.

MILDRED BYARS

Mildred Brummett Byars, 90, formerly of Handy Pike, Harrodsburg, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at the Mayfair Manor Nursing Home in Lexington.

Born December 28, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Samantha Sharp Brummett. She was the widow of John B. Byars.

She graduated from Burgin High School and the University of Kentucky and was a longtime member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

She had been active in Pioneer Burgin Homemakers, a 4-H leader, Future Homemakers Association member, Farm Bureau member, Southern States Women's Chairman, and a home economics teacher at McCreary, Washington, and Mercer County Schools. She was also a member of the Edgewood Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, John H. (Joy) Byars, Nicholasville; one daughter, Sue (Henry) Schumpf, Lebanon, TN; one sister-in-law, Edna Byars of LaGrange, GA; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Brown.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 28, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey and Dr. Gayle Toole officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Byars, Leslie Brown, Harvey Duncan, Charlie Robinson, Harold Hulett and Frank Brown.

JOSEPH COLVIN

Joseph Colvin, 83, of Medway, OH, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at the Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, OH.

Born October 27, 1917 in Willisburg, he was the son of the late Calvin and Myrtie McMillin Colvin.

He was a 1935 graduate of Willisburg High School, had worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and retired in 1973 as an air conditioning and refrigeration foreman in the Civil Engineering Unit after working more than 30 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Vivian Colvin, Medway, OH; three sons, Joseph (Diane) Colvin, Dayton, OH, Dudley (Georgiana) Colvin, Akron, OH, and Ken Colvin, Brunswick, OH; one sister-in-law, Margie Colvin Graham, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Blondella Hayes and Edna Bernhardt; one brother, Paul Chesher.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 29, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Charles Scott Colvin officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Willisburg.

Pallbearers were Theron Colvin, Adam Colvin, Jana Heeg, Tony Gray, Tim Heeg and Bruce Graham.

CARL HENDREN

Carl Wesley Hendren, 57, Castleton Way, Lexington, died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at the Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.

Born December 14, 1943 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Wesley T. and Venetta B. Robinson Hendren.

He was a retired VA Medical Center Registered Nurse and a member of Immanual Baptist Church.

He received his BS in Nursing from the University of Kentucky and his Masters from Kentucky State University.

Survivors include: three sisters, Betty J. Hendren, with whom he lived, Lexington; Mary J. Weddle, Harrison, OH and Annetta (Marvin) Carey, Perryville; one brother, Willis T. Hendren, Lexington.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 30, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Releford officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Willis Lee Hendren, Richard T. Hendren, Jeffrey Weddle, Jerome Weddle, Marvin Rowland and Thomas M. Hendren. Honorary bearers were Lewis Turner, Randall Lewis, Goldie Lewis, Goodloe Lewis, Marvin Lewis, James Lewis and Wesley Robinson.

WILLIAM SANDERS

William Thomas Sanders, 54, Sutherland Drive, Lexington, died Monday, May 28, 2001 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born June 10, 1946 in Mercer County, he was the son of T. C. Sanders, Boyle County and the late Foley Pope Sanders Lingerfelt.

He was a pipe fitter for the Local Pipe Fitters and Plumbers #452, a member of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church, Franklin Lodge #28, a fisherman and a Nascar fan.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include: his wife, Debbie Oney Sanders, Lexington; his step mother, Geneva Sanders, Boyle County; one son, Shannon (Tami) Sanders, Nicholasville; one daughter, Kristy (Royce) Blevins, Homewood, IL; one step daughter, Robyn (Chris) Hould, Nashville, TN; one brother, Donald (Barbara) Sanders, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. A. G. Tyra officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Royce Blevins, Christopher Hould, John Stith, Todd Oney, Roy Lee Sanders and Tom Castle. Honorary bearers will be Justin Sanders, Roger Whited and Tommy Murphy.

Masonic Rites will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

MELWOOD ADKINSON

Lloyd Mel-wood Adkinson, 70, formerly of Mercer County, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Biloxi Regional Hospital in Biloxi, MS.

Born May 16, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Orville and Mamie Catlett Adkinson. He attended Harrodsburg High School.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was stationed in the Philippines during the Korean Conflict.

He was a planner-estimator for the Keystore at Keesler AFB in Biloxi and was a retired construction superintendent in the Gulf coast area.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Louise Gollotte Adkinson, Biloxi, MS; one son, Lloyd M. Adkinson, Jr., Jackson, MS; one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Catherine Mary) Miller, Biloxi, MS; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Rosalyn Best Waltemyer, and one brother, Lee O. Adkinson.

Private services will be held at a later date directed by the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi, MS.

The family prefers memorials to the Biloxi Public Library, 139 Lameuse St., Biloxi, MS 39530.

ELWOOD BURGIN

Truman Elwood Burgin, 90, of 830 Noel Avenue, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at his residence.

Born October 7, 1910 in Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late Tyler Preston and Truman Frances Case Burgin.

He was a former owner/operator of Mercer Stone Company and was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church and a member of the Glad Hand Sunday School class.

He served on the Board of Directors of Harrodsburg First Financial Bank and was a former member of the Harrodsburg Optimist Club.

Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth Dennis Burgin; Harrodsburg; one son, Joseph Burgin, Harrodsburg; one brother, Preston Burgin, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Maurice "Marie" Ritter, Louisville, and Garnett Gibson, Lawrenceburg; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 3, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Edwin Freeman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Armond Bottom, Kenneth Burns, Harold Case, L. G. Meeks, Calvin Wiley and Jack Hood. Honorary bearers were members of the Glad Hand Sunday School class.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church or the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation.

ROBERT RANSDELL

Robert Haldon Ransdell, 78, of Randleman, NC, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Moses Cone Hospital.

He was a native of Salvisa and a member of Vandalia Presbyterian Church.

He was retired from Lorillard and a member of the Guilford Wildlife Club.

He was a Colonel in the U. S. Air Force and a Major in the Air Force Reserves. He was a graduate of Centre College.

Survivors include: his wife, Tillie Ransdell, Randleman, NC; one daughter, Nancy (Michael) Magnine, Amery, WI; one son, Steve (Robin) Ransdell, Randelman, NC; one sister, Virginia Ransdell, Lexington; three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Monday, June 4, at Vandalia Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, North Central Area, 3409-D W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27407 or to the National Wildlife Club.

CLEVELAND RILEY

Cleveland Riley, 81, of Laurel Creek Nursing Home in Manchester, formerly of Bedford, died June 2, 2001 at his residence.

Born January 6, 1920 in Owsley County, he was the son of the late William Riley and Lizzie Beard Riley.

He was a farmer.

Survivors include: his wife, Diana Baker Riley, Manchester; three sons, Bryan, Ben and June Riley, all of Bedford; four daughters, Mollie Smith, Bedford, Wilma Morgan, Whitesburg, Freda Adams, Altro, and Barbara Carr, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mollie McKinney, Winchester; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5, at the Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons.
