Born July 29, 1948 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Ernest P. Ryan, Harrodsburg, and the late Lona Mae Louallen Ryan.
He was employed by Atena at Lexmark and was a former Harrodsburg police officer. He was a member of Southland Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include: two sons, Porter Gene Ryan Jr., Lexington, Christopher Reynolds, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Crystal Gayle Ryan, Danville; one brother, Ernest P. Ryan Jr., Harrodsburg; one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Breaux officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday.

EFFIE SAVAGE
Effie Lee Savage, 88, of West Office Street, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born February 5, 1913 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Claud and Emma Viola Durr Smith. She was the widow of William Thomas "Bill" Savage.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Wayne (Jean) Savage, Gale (Diane) Savage, and Thomas (Virgie) Savage, all of Harrodsburg; five daughters, Ruby (Earl) Riley, Mt. Washington, Mrs. Maurice (Margaret) Sims, Harrodsburg, Mrs. Hoy (Wilma) Richardson, Lawrenceburg, Wanda (Velmer) Godbey, Lawrenceburg, Rosie Smith, Harrodsburg; one brother, Kenneth Smith, Danville; one sister, Elsie Driskell, Salvisa; 17 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Hollie Smith, three brothers, Owen, Truman and Russell Smith, four sisters, Dora Caldwell, Bessie Bast, Birdie Salisbury and Blanche Releford.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joey Savage, Michael Savage, Terry Godbey, Greg Richardson, Jeffrey Riley, Ronnie Sims, William Richardson, and Keith Richardson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

MARTHA SCHULTZ
Martha Cotton Schultz, 87, of The Oaks, Redding Road, Lexington, formerly of Mercer County, died Monday, January 7, 2002 at Samaritan Hospital.
Born November 13, 1914 in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bernice Shewmaker Cotton. She was the widow of Harry S. Schultz.
She was a retired supervisor with R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
Survivors include: one nephew, William Thomas (Jane) Phillips, Versailles; one niece, Martha Phillips (Tebbs) Moore, Harrodsburg; one great nephew; two great nieces and four great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Cotton Phillips.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 11, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington.
Arrangements are by Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home, Carlisle.

QUINTON SMITH
Quinton W. Smith, 40, of Englewood, OH, died Friday, December 7, 2001 at his residence.
Born July 26, 1961 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Daniel D. and Edna Goforth Smith Sr. of Dayton, OH.
He was employed as a heating and air conditioning technician with Smith Heating and Cooling, Dayton. He was a member of the Beardshear United Methodist Church and active in bowling.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Angela Smith, Dayton, OH; one son, Christopher Smith, Dayton, OH; two bothers, Wesley (Robin) Smith, FL, Dan Smith Jr. Dayton, OH; two sisters, Marjorie McLaughlin, Dayton, OH, Lois (Ken) Elrich, Dayton, OH; paternal grandparents, Russell and Marjorie Hageman, Dayton, OH; four aunts, Juanita Cook, Morgan Taylor, Ruby Tackett and Brenda Reed, all of Mercer County.
Private memorial services will be conducted at a later date in the Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn, OH.

Anna Lee Taylor, 73, of 215 High Street, Burgin, died Saturday, January 5, 2002 at her residence.
Born February 7, 1928 in Perryville, she was the daughter of the late William Cecil and Katie Lee Anderson Bailey. She was the widow of Roy L. Taylor.
She was a retired material handler for Mercer Dress and Cricketeer.
She was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary "Cathy" Goodlett, Burgin, Anna Rose Chilton, Frankfort; one sister, Brenda Brown, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, LaRue and J. C. Bailey and three sisters, Onita Terhune, Ida Grace Proctor and Jeanetta Paige Holt.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 8, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Donnie Releford officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

J. W. VANARSDALL
J. W. Van-Arsdall, 66, of 741 Gose Pike, Danville, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born April 11, 1935 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late George W. and Alice Devine VanArsdall.
He was a self-employed businessman, a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the American Legion Post #52, and a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Esther Payne VanArsdall, Danville; one son, John W. VanArsdall, Andalusia, AL; one brother, George VanArsdall, Danville; one sister, Bessie Coffman, St. Petersburg, FL; one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Payne and Rev. David Collier officiating. Burial with military rites was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Wanda Jean Weldon, 75, West Office Street, died Thursday, January 3, 2002 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born October 3, 1926 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Haydon and Hettie Bottoms Gillespie. She was the widow of William Richard "Billy" Weldon.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Valeda Bast, Ann (Herbert) Nelson, and Brenda Brandt, all of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and four step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, William Thomas Taylor and a sister, Golden Mae Gillespie.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 6, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Easterling officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

ELIZABETH CHAMBERS
Elizabeth Chambers, 83, of Hughley Lane, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1918 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Burton Bryant. She was the widow of Irvine Chambers.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include: three daughters, Lue Anna McKenney and Mary Frances Gross, both of Harrodsburg, and Thelma Hall of Lexington; two sons, W.C. Chambers of Greenwood, IN, and David Lee Chambers of Parksville; a brother, Marshall Bryant of Danville; four sisters, Roberta Jackson of Danville, Geneva Brickey of Lancaster, Alma Robinson and Josephine Hurt of Junction City; seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. The Rev. Byron Jessup and the Rev. Tim McKenzie officiated and burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Teddy McKenney Jr., Tommy Chambers, David Murphy, David Allen Chambers, Jeff King and Rick Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Cindy Nevius, Dana Murphy and Janice Dearing.

JOY HOWARD
Joy Sue Howard, 40, Falcon Street, died Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born October 24, 1961 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Harney Howard Jr. and Pauline McCoun Howard. She was a homemaker and a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
She was an avid UK basketball fan and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and going to bingo. She had attended Kentucky Business College.
Survivors include: one son, Michael Paul Pittman of Harrodsburg; one daughter, April Sue (Aaron) Jones of Harrodsburg, and three brothers, Perry Wayne (Freida) Howard of Mercer County and Jimmy Gill (Yvonnia Gayle) Howard and Steven Lyn Howard, both of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 12 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley and Bro. Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Delynn Jones, Tommy Cox, Roger Cox, Scott Howard, Troy Howard and Chad Howard.
