PAUL E. RUSSELL

Rev. Paul E. Russell, 780 Orchid Dr., Naples, FL, died December 13, 2001 at his residence.

Born October 11, 1920 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Russell.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served as an aerial gunner in the 8th Air Corps and flew 30 combat missions in the European Theater.

He was a graduate of Texas Christian University and Brite College of the Bible, and was a retired minister of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He had served as a minister in Texas, Mississippi and Florida.

He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in St. Petersburg, FL

Survivors include: his wife, Deana Richardson Russell, Naples, FL; two sons, Paul "Tim" Russell and "Skip" Russell, both of Land O' Lakes, FL; one daughter, Deana Ann Jones (Crockett), Naples, FL; two brothers, Jimmy Russell, Danville, "Spike" (Donna) Russell, Stanford; one sister-in-law, Mary Katherine Russell, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Hodges Chapel in Naples, FL with Rev. Jim Hervey officiating. Burial was in Murphy Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Louisville, MS, with Rev. Phil Gerber officiating.

BETTY SCHARBROUGH

Betty J. Scharbrough, 50, died Sunday, February 17, 2002, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born July 28, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Dorothy Bowen Black.

She had worked as a housekeeper and was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Scharbrough, and eight sisters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

GLADYS SIMS

Gladys Sims, 79, of 498 Brewers Mill Road, died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at her residence.

Born July 20, 1922 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late John and Lenora Hartley Graham. She was the widow of Clyde Sims, Sr.

She was a homemaker and a member of Cornishville Christian Church.

Survivors, include: one son, Clyde Sims, Jr., Harrodsburg; one daughter, Margaret Ann Hungate, Mercer County, one sister, Frances Russell, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Graham, and a sister, Thelma Britton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 19, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Curtis Sims and Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clyde Sims Jr., Brian Sims, William Earl Hungate, Earl Hungate Jr., William Robinson, Stacy Osborn, David Dunning and Kevin Lowe. Honorary bearers were granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Cornishville Christian Church cemetery Fund.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for James Sharp at Spring Hill cemetery on February 18, 2002.

Those attending were Gene Conley, Jim Stump, James Tewmey, Lucian Landers, Tom Denny, Curtis Sherrow, Joe Harlow, Marion Mershon, Tom Rappleye and Howard Howells.

Zenah Teater III served as bugler.

ELIZABETH CUNNINGHAM

Elizabeth Cunningham, 95, of 926 Bloomfield Avenue, Glenn Ridge, NJ died Sunday, February 24, 2002 at Brookhaven Healthcare Center, East Orange, NJ.

Born November 16, 1906 in Salvisa, she was the daughter of the late Robert Dedman and Ella Smith. She was the widow of Finley Cunningham.

She was a homemaker and a member of Craig AME Chapel in Salvisa.

Survivors include: one daughter, Florence C. Logan, Glenn Ridge, NJ; one son, Professor Wayman (Lillian) B. Cunningham, Columbia, MD; two brothers, William (Christine) Kinney and Edward (Betty) Kinney; one sister, Mary Johnson; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all of Columbia, MD.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, at St. Peter AME Church, with Rev. Everhart Walker, Rev. Mary White, and Rev. Jason Curry officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of Silver Cord Masonic Lodge.

Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

ARTHUR FOSTER

Arthur C. Foster, 79, of Longview Drive, Richmond, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at his residence.

A native of Rose Hill, he was the son of the late Arthur and Gladys Chilton Foster.

He was a retired serviceman for Kentucky Utilities and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Coast Guard.

He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include: his wife, Juanita G. Foster, Richmond; two sons, Jerry Alan (Vicki) Foster, Richmond, and Arthur Lee (Brenda) Foster, Stanford; one brother-in-law, Henry Anness, and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Whitacre. He was preceded in death by a brother, Williard Foster, and two sisters, Lorriane Heindl and Maxine Anness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 23, at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, with Jay Fulton officiating. Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Bell, J. D. White, Jeff Moore, Danny Long, Carl Todd, Gary Short, Earl Broaddus and Johnny Broaddus. Honorary bearers were Frank Witt, Stafford Nelson, Henry Anness, Bill Clark, B. J. Broaddus, Floyd Coleman, Donald Moreland and Bobby Jennings.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care Plus, Inc., 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403.

DIANA GOVER

Diana Sue Gover, 48, of Orchard Drive in Danville, died Friday, February 21, 2002 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born December 6, 1953 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of Harley Humfleet of Harrodsburg and the late Wilma Flowers Humfleet.

She was a licensed practical nurse for 30 years and a member of the Worldstown Road Church of God.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include: her husband, Wesley Bruce Gover III, Danville; one daughter, April Gordon, Nicholasville; one son, B. J. Naylor, Lexington; a stepmother, Corene Humfleet, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Della Wright and Sherri Cloyd of Lincoln County; one brother, William Humfleet, Danville, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Michelle Naylor.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 26, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Junior Fields officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Robert Gene Humfleet; John Webb; Tim and Jay Shelton, and James, Scotty Richard and Tony Naylor Jr. Honorary bearers were George William Hill and Larry Gover.

IRENE KEELING

Irene Colvin Keeling, 85, of Palmyra, IN, died Monday, February 26, 2002, at the Autumn Woods Health Campus, New Albany, IN.

Born January 25, 1917 in Willisburg, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Minnie Wagner Colvin. She was the widow of James Keeling.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmyra, IN.

Survivors include: a daughter, Joyce McCue, Louisville; two sons, Dewayne and James Keeling, both of Palmyra; three sisters, Marie McRay, Harrodsburg, Dorothy McIntosh and Lou Elder, both of Louisville; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, at the Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN. Burial will be in High View Cemetery, Chaplin.

Visitation from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday.

RUBY LAWSON

Celestial Ruby Lawson, 79, of 479 Chestnut Street, died Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at the home of her daughter.

Born February 28, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ella Peavler Pankey.

She was a retired kindergarten instructional assistant for Mercer County Elementary School, having worked for 29 years.

She was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.

Survivors include: her husband, Myron Lance Lawson, Harrodsburg; four sons, Donnie (Pat) Lawson, Danny (Mary Jo) Lawson, David Lawson, and Tony (Debbie) Lawson, all of Mercer County; two daughters, Peggy (Nelson) Reynolds, Washington County, and Betty (Randy) Sims, Mercer County; one sister, Vivian Peavler, Mercer County; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Everett Priddy and Hillary Claypool officiating. Burial will be in the Deep Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Devine, Tony Pankey, Kyle Pankey, Bill Elliott, Joe Russell, Tommy Peavler, Kevin Gibson and Richard Watts. Honorary bearers will be Marty, Jerry, Adam, Casey Lawson, Lance Lawson, Lee Sims and Justin Reynolds.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, and after 7:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
