HATTIE BRUNER

Hattie Pearl Bruner, age 81, formerly of West Office Street, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born October 21, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Pittman. She was the widow of Russell D. Bruner.

She was a retired seamstress at Jonathan Logan and a member of the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: one son, George Bruner, Spartanburg, SC; one daughter, Betty Mae Stratton, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mary Lester, Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Bruner, and a daughter, Ruby Jewell Bruner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 7, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Robert H. Johnson and Rev. George Woodliff officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great grandsons, Gary Stratton, Dalton Hurst, Tim Bruner, Steve Bruner, Russell Bruner, Dustin Merriman, Kenny Baker and David Stratton.

CAROL HUSTON

Carole Sue Huston, 52, of 319 Beacon Hill, Versailles, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, October 7, 2000 at her residence.

Born July 10, 1948 in Louisville, she was the daughter of William Gardner and Martha Sue Crosby Kressenburg.

She had worked as the Chair of the Education Department for Midway College and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

She was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, KY Association of School Administrators, KY Association of Special Education Administrators, KY Association for Gifted Education and the Counsel for Exceptional Children.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include: one son, William Patrick Huston, Versailles; one daughter, Suzanne Huston, Versailles; two brothers, William N. Gardner, Paducah, and Mark Kressenburg, Houston, TX; two sisters, Robin Arnzen, Paducah and Lynn Klingenburg, Cincinnati, OH.

Memorial services were held Tuesday October 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Roc Moore officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the American Humane Society.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Connie Yeaste at Bruner’s Chapel Cemetery on October 7, 2000.

Those attending were Roy Freeman, Howard Howells, Lucian Landers, Curtiss Sherrow, Joe Harlow, James Carey and Tom Denny.

GLENN RAY Sr.

Glenn Russell Ray Sr., 73, of Sandoval, IL, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, October 7, 2000 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

Born in Shelbyville May 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Alex and Mary (Pigg) Ray.

He was past national president of the Starcraft Camper’s Club.

He retired after 25 years from World Color Press as a maintenance foreman and formerly owned and operated ABCO Appliance Repair in Louisville.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II and retired form the army reserve after 20 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy L. Ray, Sandoval, IL; five sons, Glenn Ray Jr., Salem, IL; Jim Lee Gordon, Centralia, IL, Donald (Brenda) Gordon, Sandoval, and Tom (Susan) Gordon, Odin, IL; three daughters, Robin Ray, Louisville; Ria (Jim) Duncan, Salem, IL, and Sharon (Tom) Tucker, Centralia, IL; one sister, Francis Sacks, Tampa, FL; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Evalie Wiley Ray.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 10, at the Irvin Funeral Home Chapel in Centralia IL, with Rev. Greg Williams. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park with military rites.

Memorials are suggested to ALS or the Alzheimer’s Association.

AGNES BROWN

Agnes Brown Brown, 75, of 429 Curry Pike, died Monday, October 9, 2000 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

A native of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Zenobia Thurman Brown. She was the widow of Dudley Brown.

She was a housekeeper for Shawnee Farms, a member and trustee of St. Peters AME Church, a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and a 1943 graduate of Louisville Central High School.

Survivors include: a son, Fred (Jewell Johnson) Brown, Harrodsburg; five brothers, Andrew S. Brown, Frankfort, John M. Brown, Lexington, Gary W. Brown, Versailles, Robert M. Brown, Louisville, and Victor L. Brown, Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Lucy B. Mann, Denver, CO, Addie Belle Smith, Louisville, and Martha Bruce Brooks, Frankfort; two granddaughters, one step granddaughter and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Brown, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, at St. Peters AME Church with Rev. John Short III officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Brown, John Brown, Gary Brown, Robert Brown, Victor Brown and Troy Brooks. Honorary bearers will be George Hudson, Andy Harris, Jimmy Brown, Lowell Halstead and Charles Griffen.

Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the church.

ELMER ANDERSON

Elmer Allen Anderson, 86, of Mackville, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 in Lebanon.

Born November 3, 1913 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Jabez Frank and Jennie Litsey Anderson. He was the widower of Wilma Bishop Anderson.

He was a farmer.

Survivors include: three daughters, Linda Allen Anderson, Mackville, Carolyn Anderson Weakley, Mt. Washington, and Jennie Margaret Nelson, Frankfort.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 13, at the Mackville Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Readnour and Bro. David Gifford officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lowell Peavler, Verlin Burns, Sam Stumph, Bruce Burkhead, Bob Holderman and Dixie Pinkston.

Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of arrangements.

JOSEPHINE BARNETT

Josephine S. Barnett, 72, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Springfield, died Monday, October 9, 2000 at the Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born April 11, 1928 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John Neal and Audrey Strange Snider.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Louisville.

She had worked as a secretary for former Springfield attorney H. M. "Pat" Grigsby and was a retired secretary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company in Louisville.

She was a 1946 graduate of Springfield High School and a graduate of St. Catharine College.

Survivors include: two step brothers, A. H. "Bubba" Robertson, Springfield, and Bill Robertson, OH; a special friend, Joe Barnett, Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 13, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hal Hall officiating. Burial was in Cemetery Hill in Springfield.

Pallbearers were Terry Bland, Marion Strange, John Strange, Joe Buster and Bobby Noel.

O'REAR BARNETT

O'Rear Barnett, 87, of the Kirkland Community of Washington County, died Thursday, October 12, 2000 at his residence.

Born March 19, 1913 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Earl and Dessie Gritton Barnett.

He was a member of the Antioch Christian Church where he served as an elder, Sunday School teacher and served as song leader for 35 years. He was a former director and president of the Washington County Farm Bureau and was a long time board member of the Washington County ASCS Board.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruby Satterly, Kirkland; two sons, Randall (JoNell) Barnett, Versailles, and Barney (Mary Lou) Barnett, Shelbyville; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Jean) Derringer, Willisburg, Mrs. Buford (Ellen) Griffey, Tampa, Fl, and Mrs. Forest (Trela) Brown of Anderson County; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, at the Antioch Christian church with Bro. Rick Burdette officiating. He was assisted by Bro. David Kelley and Bro. George Martin. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Griffey, Jackie Griffey, Larry Barnett, Jerry Barnett, Terry Hardin, Mike Barnett, Tony Derringer and Eddie Durr. Honorary bearers were Ras Cornish, Maurice Kessler, Bobby Durr, Johnny Mitchell, Ronnie Marcum, Jimmy Bowen, Rodney Durr, Billy Stine, Todd Hill, Bobby Stine, Garland Hoskins, Fred Adams and Val McCord.

Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of arrangements.

LOIS ADKINSON

Lois Hawkins Adkinson, 96, Lexington, died Thursday, October 12, 2000.

She attended elementary school in Harrodsburg and entered the Kentucky Female Orphan School (now Midway College), when she was in the eighth grade and graduated from high school there in 1922.

She had been a member of the Broadway Christian Church since 1941 and a member of the Sunshine Class. She had been president of the Sunshine Class, president of the Women's Dept., chairman and teacher of the Lydia Circle and teacher in the children's department.

She was also a volunteer for ten years with Helping Hand, an organization that provides daycare for Alzheimer's victims.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert E. (Jean) Adkinson, Mercer County; Donald M. (Bertha) Adkinson, Ft. Valley, GA; one daughter, Janice (Don) Spreitzer, Lexington; 15 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 16, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland by Rev. Stuart Couve and Rev. James Bird. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County.

ANNIE PITTMAN

Annie Laura Taylor Pittman, 89, of 118 N. College Street, died October 10, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born October 23, 1910 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Meaux Taylor. She was the widow of James H. Pittman Sr.

She was a homemaker and member of St. Peter AME Church. She was a member of Willing Workers, Helping Hand, and Golden Age Association.

Survivors include: one sister, Mary Lucy Jackson, Cleveland, OH; two daughters-in-law, Viola and Mary Pittman, Harrodsburg; two grandsons. She was preceded in death by two sons, James Taylor Pittman and William Garnett Pittman, and one grandson, Darnell Pittman.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, at St. Peter AME Church with Rev. Price Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Willie (Jack) Bottoms, Andrew Jones, Andy Harris, James Bryant, Fred Bottoms and Robert Harris.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home, Danville, was in charge of arrangements.

JAMES BERTRAM

James Collins Bertam, 74, of 80 Ruston, Danville, died Saturday, October 14, 2000 at his residence.

Born June 21, 1926 in Morgan County, TN, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Meece Bertram.

He was a veteran of the US Army, a retired Barnhart Manufacturing security officer and an avid fisherman.

Survivors include: his wife, Adele Scholl Bertram, Danville; five sons, Roger, David, William and Jackie Bertram, and Jason Rickman; four step daughters, Lynette Moretz, Lois Barker, Donna Blonvet and Jan Bowman; three step sons, Karl Rickman, Desie Rickman and Don Rickman; two sisters, Ruby Coffman, Harrodsburg, and Maxine Coffman, Mitchellsburg; several grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Monday, October 16, at the Mitchellsburg Church of God with Bro. Larry E. Moore officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Charlotte, NC.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
