DAVID MAY SR.
Mercer Man Dies In Traffic Accident
By Debbie Jenkins Cook
Herald Staff Writer
A tractor accident last Friday morning claimed the life of a 92-year-old Mercer County man and injured his neighbor.
The Mercer Emergency Medical Service was called at 8:42 a.m. Friday to a barn on Sparrow Lane where David "Garland" May Sr. and Dorothy Cameron had been injured.
Cameron, of 605 Dry Branch Road, said Tuesday that she and May were in the barn and getting ready to feed cows when the tractor rolled on them. She said the accident occurred so quickly that she isn't sure what really happened or if the tractor was out of gear. "We were just standing by it," she said.
May, of 819 Sparrow Lane, was transported to the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by Fayette County Coroner Steven McCowan at 12:25 p.m. Friday. McCowan said May died from blunt chest trauma.
Cameron was transported to the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center where she received treatment for a broken leg and remained a patient until Tuesday.
A spokesperson at McRay Feed and Grain said one of their workers, Eugene Preston of Danville, was at the barn unloading feed when the accident happened and he called the EMS.
