DAVID YOUNG

David Hugh Young, 67, of Forrest Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at his residence.

Born May 20, 1934 in Washington County, he was the son of Christine Robinson Young of Harrodsburg and the late Christopher Hugh Young.

He was a first class signalman with the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and a member of Penny's Chapel Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and former owner of Young's Auto Parts in Lawrenceburg and a former co-owner of Young's Ford in Lawrenceburg.

He was a former member of the Cornishville Masonic Lodge, the Lawrenceburg Lion's Club, the Lawrenceburg Jaycees, the Lawrenceburg American Legion Post #34 and was an avid race car fan.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Janice R. Lance Young, Lawrenceburg; two sons, Larry W. (Terri) Young, Lexington, and Mike E. Young, Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, at the Ritchie-Peach-Todd Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg, with Bro. Joe White and Bro. Gary Drury officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

LORENE FRYMAN

Lorene Estes Fryman, 72, of 424 W. Pleasant St., Cynthiana died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at the Harrison Memorial Hospital.

Born September 30, 1929 in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Grace Cosby Estes. She was the widow of Berlin Fryman.

She was a retired custodian for the Harrison County High School, past worthy matron and member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Cynthiana Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, John Michael (Bettina Joe) Fryman, Cynthiana, Robert Allen (Margaret Ann) Fryman, Lexington; two brothers, Walter Estes, AL, and Edward Estes, Lexington; one sister, Ruth E. Clark, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, at the Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, Cynthiana, with Rev. Wayne Spivey and Rev. Jerry Watkins officiating. Burial was in the Battle Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Cynthiana Baptist Church or the Wagoners Chapel Church cemetery Fund.

ANNABELLE McCLINTOCK

Annabelle Moberly McClin-tock, 57, formerly of Lexington, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at the University of Birmingham Alabama Cancer Center.

A native of Fayette County, she was the daughter of William Garnett Moberly, Clearwater, FL and Emma E. Greene Griffieth, Nicholasville.

She was a graduate of Lafayette High School, a receptionist for House Call Home Healthcare in Holiday, FL and a former member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Samuel L. McClintock, Tarpon Springs, FL; two sons, Bart (Paula) Allin, Dallas, and Jeff (Cornelia) McClintock, Atlanta; two daughters, Leisha (Daniel) Fleming, Atlanta, and Susan Moberly Allin, Macon, GA; two brothers, Rick (Sharon) Moberly and Jeff (Donna) Moberly, both of Harrodsburg; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 10, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, with Rev. Kenneth Speaks officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 160 Moore Drive, Lexington, KY 40503.

JOHN PETERSON

John Frank Peterson, 76, of Warwick Road, died Monday, April 15, 2002 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born October 21, 1925 in Sommerville, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mildred Peterson.

He had worked in sales for Clipper, Grand Rapids, MI.

He was a member of Varick Masonic Lodge in NY and 366 Fighters Group Association.

He served in the army from 1943 to 1946.

Survivors include: his wife, Florence G. Peterson, Harrodsburg; three sons, John F. (Ines) Peterson Jr., NJ, Charles E. (Fran) Peterson, FL, and Harry W. Peterson, NY; one brother, Earnest A. (Barbara) Peterson, PA; three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to VFW, PO Box 293, Harrodsburg, KY 40330, in honor of World War II veterans.

There will be no visitation.

MARTHA MAY SUTTON
Martha May Ferguson Sutton, 70, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Mackville, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born February 24, 1932 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late James and Sara Martha Carney May. She was the widow of Robert Ferguson and Vivion Sutton.

She was a member of the Mackville Christian Church and a retired employee of the University of Kentucky where she worked for many years in the registrar's office.

She was a 1951 graduate of Mackville High School and a graduate of Campbellsville Junior College. She was a substitute teacher in the Mercer County School System.

Survivors include: one brother, Connie (Linda) May, Lexington; two stepdaughters, Gloria (Parnell) Cochran and Robbie (Ray) Canterberry, all of Mackville; five step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Cindy Sutton.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, at Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Ward, Bro. Rick Murphy and Bro. Fred Whitacre officiating. Burial was in the Peter cemetery at Mackville.

Pallbearers were Randy Burns, Larry Carney, Michael Huffman, Tim Lizer, Jeff Stumph and Mike Gordon. Honorary bearers were members of her Sunday School class, Marge Whitacre, Norma Settles, Norma Pinkston, Wuanita McMicahel, Emogene Matherly, June Wiley, Virginia Logsdon, Imogene Abner and Anna Florence Russell.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Richard Shewmaker at Spring Hill cemetery on April 12, 2002.

Those attending were Lucian Landers, Marion Mershon, Tom Denny, Joe Harlow, Tom Rappleye, Hanies Phillips, Howard H. Howells, Preston Burgin, Donald Stumph, Curtis Sherrow, Gary Winfield, Bobby Thompson, James Tewmey, J. L. Devine, David Bruner and Dennis Shewmaker.

U. S. Army representatives were SFC Mark Metcalf and Sgt. Greg Lark.

Zenah Teater III and Bill Gravely served as buglers.

ROYCE CORNISH

Royce Cornish, 77, of Cornishville Road, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at his residence.

Born August 9, 1924 in Washington County, he was the son of the late John Calvin and Lizzie Robinson Cornish.

He was a retired supervisor and heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Department.

He was a member of the Cornishville Baptist Church where he was a former trustee, custodian and usher.

In 1975 he founded the Cornishville Fire Department where he served as fire chief until his death. He was a charter member of the Cornishville Ruritan Club, loved woodworking and was active in the community.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary M. Cornish, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Lana (Richard) Tingle, and Zoe Anna (Charles) Sanders, both of Mercer County; one sister, Mrs. Hugh (Christine) Young of Harrodsburg; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Calvin Cornish; a grandson, Richard Ashley Tingle, two brothers, Woodrow and T. J. Robinson, and one sister, Blondella Harmon.

Funeral services were held Saturday April 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour, Bro. Jack Geurin and Bro. Donald Litteral officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Grider, Greg Brown, George Hendrix, Dennis Thompson, Logan Lynn, Shirley Turner and Jackie Griffey. Honorary bearers were members of all Mercer County Volunteer Fire Departments.

MARTHA EDGER

Martha Lois Edger, 77, of Louisville, died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at her residence.

Born January 31, 1924 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Morris Daniel Gordon and Maudie Bell Gordon.

She was a retired administrative assistant for the Kentucky Department of Mental Health and a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church.

Survivors include: her husband, William R. Edger; one daughter Ila M. Edger, both of Louisville and one sister, Sara G. Conway, Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, at the Arch L. Heady and Son, Westport Road at Herr Lane, in Louisville. Graveside services were in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

ANITA KEMPER

Anita Mobley Kemper, 77, died Monday, April 15, 2002 in St. Petersburg, FL

She was a native of Cardwell in Washington County and a daughter of the late Vertna and Delos Mobley. She was the widow of Detmer Kemper.

Survivors include: two daughters, Deanna (Jim) Verges, Plano, TX, and Mary (Bernard) Eadie, West Chester, OH; one brother, Leroy (Inelle) Mobley, Owensboro; five grandchildren and two step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille, and two brothers, J. T. and Willie Mobley.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 19, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the American Lung Association.
