Ruth Lowe, 88, of Rose Hill Lane, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born January 23, 1914 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Elizabeth Brown Muse.
She was a former employee at Sportleigh Hall and a homemaker. She was a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church where she was a GA leader. She was a former member of Burgin Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Clifford Lowe, Harrodsburg; two sons, Leland (Nancy) Lowe, Parrish, FL, and Larry (Margaret) Lowe, Mercer County; two daughters, Nancy L. (Bob) Royalty, Burgin, and Sue (David) Easton, Warsaw; two brothers, Wilford Muse, Somerset, and Winford Muse, Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, Neida Godbey and Clara Campbell, both of Science Hill; eight grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Redding officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Royalty Jr., Terrell Royalty, Darryl Royalty, Gary Royalty, Marsha Gay Erwin, Chris Lowe, Kelly Lowe and Angie Lowe. Honorary bearers were members of the Faith Sunday School Class.
Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund.

JAMES BYRD
James Earl Byrd, 58, Curdsville Road, died Monday, May 20, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born January 28, 1944 in Mercer County, he was the son of Della Mae Bernard Byrd, Harrodsburg, and the late Roscoe Byrd.
He was a plumber for Ricketts' Plumbing, an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Smith Byrd, Harrodsburg; one son, Steven (Jamie) Byrd, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Tanya Denise (Christopher Dean) Reynolds, Hustonville; three brothers, Elwood Byrd and Clarence Byrd of Harrodsburg and Ronnie Byrd, Junction City; three sisters, Sara Elizabeth 'Libby' Abner, Harrodsburg, Anna Oster, Danville and Billie Sue Luttrel, FL; one grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michell Lynn Byrd.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Spicer and Billy Luttrel officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Smith, Terry Smith, Bradley Smith Jr., Jackie Hammons, Kevin Brown, Cory Robinson and Willie Turpin Sr. Honorary bearers will be Todd Sheperd, Herb Schululte and Vic Ricketts.
Visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

MARGARET DEISS
Margaret Dean Deiss, 69, of Louisville, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002.
Born June 18, 1932 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Agnes Huff Dean.
She attended Nazareth Academy, St. Mary's College and Catherine Spalding College.
She was retired form Mercer-Meidinger as a benefits consultant and was active in the Younger Woman's Club, Louisville Autistic School and at St. Albert the Great Parish School.
Survivors include: her husband, Joseph S. Deiss, Louisville; one daughter, Elizabeth (James K.) Pridmore, and two grandchildren, LaGrange.
A Funeral Mass was conducted at St. Albert the Great Church, 1405 Techny Lane, Saturday, May 18. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

WILLIAM PAYNE
William Benny Payne, 67, of 418 W. Factory Street, died Monday, May 20, 2002 at his residence.
Born April 14, 1934 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Beatrice and Charlie Payne. He was the widower of Ann Young Payne.
Survivors include one daughter, Anette Bartleson, Harrodsburg; two step daughters, Mary Young and Arnessa Guillin; three stepsons, Leroy and Danny Young, of Danville and Alfred Young of Harrodsburg; one brother, James Robert Payne, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, six step grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin with Rev. Phil Yates officiating. Burial will be in Robinson Roe Cemetery, Burgin.
Pallbearers will be Kendall Patton, Raymond Patton, Daniel Patrick, Samuel Bess, John T. Mays and Jeremiah Young. Honorary bearers will be James Williams, Fred Bottoms, Andy Harris, Benny Yates and Sam Wheat.

LOUISE ASHFORD
Louise J. Ashford, 82, of 2038 Warwick Road, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born May 17, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Maggie Lou Moore Jones. She was the widow of Davis Hyte Ashford.
She was a homemaker, a member of Joseph Chapel United Methodist Church. She served as secretary for the church's WSCS (Women's Society of Christian Service) for many years.
Survivors include: one son, James Hyte (Ann) Ashford, Harrodsburg; four daughters, Mrs. Harold (Margaret Ann) Logue, Mrs. Don (JoEllen) Horn, Mrs. Mickey (Janet) Gilliland, all of Mercer County and Mrs. Stephen (Yvonne) Fox of Shelbyville; one sister, Lena J. Harmon; one sister-in-law, Frances Jones, both of Harrodsburg; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two brothers, John W. (Jack) and Willis (Wick) Jones and two sisters, Margaret Carrender and Virginia Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Madgie Ray Brown of Salvisa, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Lawrenceburg.
Born July 4, 1910 in Anderson County, she was the widow of Hobert Brown.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Steven Brown and Delbert Harlow, both of Salvisa; one daughter, Lorraine Cave, Palmyra, IN; one half brother, Charles Cornish, Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Verda Cozine, Bloomfield, IN and Reva Blakeman, Louisville; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth Hardy and Mary Helen Brown, one half brother, J. C. Cornish and two brothers, Callie and Hugley Cornish.
Funeral services will be held at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel Thursday, May 30, with Jason Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery, Salvisa.

Viola Pauline Burns, 76, of 1002 Ridgeway, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.
Born April 25, 1926 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Minnie Myrtle Louallen Morris.
She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass and a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg.
Survivors include: her husband, Walton Kenneth Burns, Harrodsburg; one son, Donald Gene Burns, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Reva Gale Spalding and Joyce Carol Logue, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, Albert Morris, Danville; two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 26, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bobby Logue, Rev. Ray Spicer and Rev. John Short officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Geneva Stratton Cox, 87, Claylick Church Road, Salvisa, died Sunday, May 26, 2002 at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Danville.
Born September 15, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Minnie Goodlett Stratton. She was the widow of Ambrose F. Cox.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Claylick United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Arlene (Paul) Cottrell, Lawrenceburg, and Norma Jean (Kenny) Hazelwood, Salvisa; one son, Wesley Carter Cox, Salvisa; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vergie Brown and a brother, Robert Stratton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 29, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. John Hockersmith officiating. Burial was in Hebron cemetery in Anderson County.
