JOY DELGADO

Joy Irene Rasnake Delgado, widow of Benjamin Delgado of Rowland Heights, CA, formerly of Mercer County, died Nov. 14, 2009 in Whittier, CA.

Born Aug. 13, 1941 in South Clinchfield, VA, she was the daughter of the late Harmon Rasnake and Rosie A. Boyd-Rasnake Harmon. She was a retired dental assistant in California.

Survivors include: a son, William (Billy) Hassink of Rowland Heights, CA; a brother, Samuel Rasnake of Mercer County; three sisters, Martha Rasnake and Gladys Votaw, both of Mercer County, and Jeanette Rasnake of Indianapolis, IN.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Rasnake-Hill and her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Nichols.

A memorial service will be held Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Grapevine Church.

LOLA HAHN

Lola B Peavler Hahn, 83, of Lawrenceburg died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort.

Born January 10, 1926 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ezra Peavler and Ophie Goff.

She was a retired state employee of the Department of Revenue and a member of the Pigeon Fork Baptist church.

She is survived by her son Ralph (Brenda) Hahn of Lawrenceburg; two daughters Phyllis (Philip) Sharp of Lawrenceburg and Susan (Michael) Taulbee of Waddy; a sister, Nettie Rae Hahn and a brother, Llewelyn Peavler of Harrodsburg; special friends Sherri Hahn and Jim Brooks, six grandchildren, two step grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Hahn; one sister, Glenna Fay Peavler; and two brothers, Marvin Peavler and Hanley G Peavler.

Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Owens and Bro. Steve Broughton officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg cemetery with Bro. Jeff Eaton conducting the committal service.

Pallbearers were Ronald Sharp, Michael Hahn, Ryan Hahn, Destry Sharp, Patrick Peters, Steve Dalton, Jim Brooks, and Dallas Stewart.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.

LILLIAN HURST

Lillian DeLois Sutton Hurst, 80, of Danville, died Wednesday November 25, 2009.

Born December 20, 1928 in Washington County, she was the daughter of Robert and Lillian Darland Sutton. She was the widow of Myron Burt Hurst.

She was a 1945 graduate of Mackville High School and a member of Indian Hills Christian Church. She retired from American Greeting Corp. after 25 years and joined her husband on the Danville School bus system as monitor for the preschool students.

An avid UK fan, gardener and golfer, she also loved to sew and read. As a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she always put her family and her love of the Lord before herself.

Survivors include: one son, Doug (Cheryl) Hurst of Dallas, TX; one daughter, Lana (Garry) Bradshaw of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Ruby Harlow of Springfield and Rosemond Peavler of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Scott (Betsy) Sutton of Mt. Washington; two grandchildren, Lea Ann (Mike) Metcalfe and Jennifer (Andy) Boggess; six great-grandchildren, Molly Marshall, Dylan Sims, Logan Boggess, Payton Metcalfe, Macey Metcalfe and Ethan Boggess; a devoted niece and nephew, Lisa Robinson and Barney Sutton; and a special friend, Marge Bocora.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Indian Hills Christian Church with Rev. Lance Ladd and Rev. Odis Clark.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Indian Hills Christian Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to Heritage hospice, or the Living Stones at Indian Hills Christian Church.

Stith Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of arrangements.

MARVIN LAWSON

Marvin Lawson, 79, widower of Rosella Shewmaker Lawson, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born December 1, 1929 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Eddie and Halli McMullin Lawson. He was a retired Pepsi distributor, having worked locally for thirty years and more recently had driven cars for Spirit Chevrolet. He was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Pud) Peavler, Marlene (Ronnie) McGrath, and Darlene (Eddie) Bast, all of Harrodsburg; one son, Marvin Lynn (Julia) Lawson of Interlachen, FL.; one sister, Joyce (Harlan) Barnett of Danville and one sister-in-law, Elva Oldham of Harrodsburg. Six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill cemetery with Mark Eastman, Adam Curtsinger, Stephanie McGrath, Matthew McGrath, Patrick Bast, Fred Reid Burns, and Tommy Barnett serving as active pallbearers. Great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

ALTA TAYLOR

Alta Mae Taylor, 58, of Mesquite, Texas, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009.

Born March 1, 1951 in Harlan County, she was the daughter of the late Clem and Evelyn Long Johnson. She was a graduate of Texas A & M and was an accountant.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Taylor of Mesquite; a son, Matthew Ryan Garcia of Mesquite; a granddaughter, Nora Campbell of Garland, TX; two sisters, Linda Irby, of Alabama and Carol Freeman of Madison County; a brother, Dale Johnson, of Rockcastle County and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Johnson, Jack Johnson and Earl Joe Johnson.

A Memorial service and reception was held at the Marriott at Griffin Gate in Lexington, on Nov. 29.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg was in charge of arrangements.

MELANIE WARREN

Melanie June Warren, 42 of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born in Torrance, CA, she was the daughter of Odell and Mary Jo (Center) Warren.

She was employed by University Of Kentucky Dental School, and was a member of Southland Christian Church in Lexington.

She is survived by her parents, Odell and Mary Jo (Center) Warren; one sister, Ketrina Oliver of Lyles, TN and two brothers, Ron Oliver of Katy, TX, and David Warren of Harrodsburg.

She was predeceased by a brother, Jeffery Warren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brother John David Lane officiating. Burial followed in Mt Pleasant Church cemetery in Harrodsburg.

DONALD WEIANT

Donald H. Weiant, 75 of Junction City died Monday, November 30, 2009.

Born March 24, 1934 in Blairstown, NJ, he was the son of the late Fred and Edith Drake Weiant.

He was a US Army Korean War veteran and a volunteer fire fighter for the Junction City and Boyle County Fire Departments.

Survivors include: his wife, June Weiant; seven daughters, Donna Weiant of Berea, Debbie (Jim) Paul of Junction City, Mary Ann (Randy) May of Lancaster, Robin (Mark) Lambert of Junction City, Patty (Dave) Baudendistel of Junction City, Sandy (Lonnie) Hacker of Harrodsburg and Terri (William Johnson) Weiant of Junction City; two half-sisters, Mildred Kays of Nazareth, PA and Carolyn Hunt of Oxford, NJ; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 4, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Rev. Mike Cox with burial in Moreland Cemetery.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Military rites by American Legion, Boyle Post 46 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

BENNIE WELLS

Bennie Ray Wells, 65, of Georgetown, a building contractor and husband of Judy Ann Muir Wells, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at his home.

A native of Estill County, he was the son of the late Ernest Wells, Sr. and Etta Griffin Wells.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Angela Wells, Georgetown; two sons, Stuart Wells, Harrodsburg and Michael Wells, Frankfort; one sister, Wanda (Tommy) Durham, Waco; two brothers, Donald (Patsy) Wells and Jimmy (Linda) Wells, both of Georgetown; nine grandchildren, Amelia, Audrey, Alison, Lance, Chase, Mercedez, Ashley, Christopher and Troy Wells; a sister-in-law, Wanda M. Wells, Georgetown; and two brothers-in- law, Stuart (Betty) Muir and Chester (Debbie) Muir, both of Georgetown.

A brother, Ernest Wells, Jr. preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 28, at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgetown by Rev. Jeff Gibson. Burial was in Georgetown Cemetery.

Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or his family.

EMMA WHEELER

Emma Elizabeth Blair Wheeler, 88, widow of W. Bernal Wheeler, died Monday, November 23 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born November 15, 1921 in Fayette County, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Turner and Sudie Jane Evans Blair.

Mrs. Wheeler was a former Texas Instruments employee and later a caregiver for the elderly.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernice (Stewart) Robinson of Lawrenceburg, Carol Ann (Michael) Carpenter of Baton Rouge, LA, two sisters, Mabel Louise Morrison of Lexington, Emily Lemay of Lawrenceburg, a brother, Franklin Blair, and a son-in-law, Billy McIntyre of Versailles. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Billy McIntyre Jr. of Harrodsburg, Jimmy Robinson of Lawrenceburg, and 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Burge, Danielle McIntyre, Mason McIntyre, Brittany McIntyre, Hanna McIntyre, Bylan Robinson, Tyler Robinson, Brandon Hartley, Benjamin Hartley, Brittany Jean Rowsey, and Shane Rowsey.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Sue McIntyre, two grandsons, B. McIntyre and Bryan McIntyre, two sisters, Carolyn Jane Bede and Henrietta Wheat.

Funeral services were conducted Friday November 27, at the Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles.

Pallbearers were Felix Maxberry, Stewart Robinson, Billy McIntyre Jr., Jimmy Robinson, Jeff Casey, and Murhan Behar. Burial was in Versailles Cemetery.

ROBERT WILKERSON

Robert Lee “Bob” Wilkerson, 81, of Mackville, died Monday, November 23, 2009, at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rose Hilton Wilkerson.

Survivors include: three sons, Billy Travelstead, Willisburg; Robert J. Wilkerson, Bardstown, and Philip Wilkerson, Willow Springs, NC.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 28, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Rev. Matt Flanagan, associate pastor of the Parkway Baptist Church, in Bardstown.

Pallbearers were Leo Blackburn, Brad Wingfield, Jeff Wingfield, Steve Heitz, Stanley McCarty and Gilly Arnold.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
