Born April 16, 1953 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Opal Bottoms Settles.
Mrs. Akins was a homemaker and member of Kirkwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Danny Lee Akins; one daughter, Deana Hawkins; one sister, Linda Proctor of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Randall Settles of Salvisa, Mike Settles of Harrodsburg and Gary B. Settles of Danville and one grandson.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 5 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be sent to Heritage Hospice.

JIMMIE ASBERY
Jimmie Asbery, 63, of Hustonville died Wednesday December 2, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born June 2, 1946, he was a retired welder and a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Asbery; mother, Rethel Asbery of Burgin; a son, Bill Asbery of Hustonville; grandson, Joseph Asbery; and two sisters, Shirley Chumbly of Burgin and Barbara Johnson of Moreland.
Services were conducted Saturday, December 5, at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home in Liberty by Bro. Greg Nimmo. Burial was in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
GLEN BOLIN
Glen Edward Bolin, 82, of Danville, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at his residence.
Born Wednesday, May 18, 1927 in McCreary County, he was the son of the late Fred and Nell Peters Bolin. He was the husband of Ruby Jean Nicholas Bolin of Danville.
He was an entrepreneur and was the owner and operator of the Fox and Crow Pawn Shop in Danville. Despite becoming a double amputee at the age of 13, Glen accomplished many achievements including becoming a dirt track race car driver. He was a member of the Hedgeville Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his daughter, Vicki (Bruno Anthony) Albiero, of Harrodsburg; brother, Kenneth “Pug” (Helen) Bolin of Norwood, OH; sisters, Joyce (Clifford) Logan of Burnside, Freida Love of Norwood, OH, Dean (Clarence) Stamper of Middlesboro; grandsons, Bolin Allen (Diana) Bentley of Harrodsburg and Bryce Austen (Rachel) Bentley of Stanford; a great-grandson, Bryar Allen Bentley of Harrodsburg; brother-in-law, Chester (Gelea) Nichols of Danville; a nephew, Scotty (Heidi) Head of Lexington; niece, Lou (Clyde) Rogers of Danville; great-niece, Melissa (Brian) Angolia of Knoxville, TN; and great-nephew, Clyde (Lisa) Rogers and their daughter, Chessie, all of Danville.
He was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Groves and Doris Head-Pittman.
An Appreciation of Life service was Saturday, December 5, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Travis Farris officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bruno Albiero, Pat Overstreet, Bo and Austen Bentley, Joe Ruby, Chester Nichols, Clyde Rogers II, and Jimmy Lair.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. David Overstreet, Dr. Daniel Moran, Don Sinkhorn, Glen Raines and Bro. John Cato.

GERALDINE BURTON
Geraldine Sharp Burton, passed from this life on December 4, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital, after a brief fight with colon cancer.
Geri Burton was born Geraldine Sharp on June 14th, 1932 in the little railroad town of Oakdale, Morgan County, TN.
Daughter of the railroad life, soon the young family moved up the rail line to Danville, where Geri grew up. After graduating from Danville High School in 1950, Geri attended Georgetown College, then the University of Kentucky. She met and later married
Richard "Dick" Burton in 1955 at Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington, KY. In 1957, she gave birth to their first child, Trina Gail, followed by their second child, Richard Brian Burton in 1964. In 1961 Geri and Dick were baptized and confirmed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in June of 1965 were again married
and sealed with their children in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City, UT.
Geri maintained and found great joy in her lifelong friendships with girlfriends from her school days in Danville. Geri held many positions and was richly rewarded working, playing and worshiping in the fellowship of the church. Over the years, she served with the youth groups, genealogy library and Relief Society. Geri loved to travel and has visited many remote and interesting places around the world, including Kathmandu Nepal, China, Thailand, Europe, and South America, including Machu Picchu Peru.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Dick, her dear mother, Juanita Ashley Ware, her father, Charlie Sharp and her stepfather, Stanley Ware.
She is survived by: one daughter, Trina Burton Howard of Harrodsburg; one son, Richard Brian Burton of Lexington; son-in-law, Mark David Howard; brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 8, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1789 Tates Creek Rd., Lexington, KY. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
JOHN CARPENTER
John William Carpenter, 82, of London, died Friday, Dec. 4 2009 at his residence.
Born July 8, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Bess Cornett Carpenter.
He was a military veteran, a professional, mechanical and civil engineer and a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eugenia Bissett-Carpenter.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 7 at the First Presbyterian Church in London with Ted Thulin officiating. Burial followed in the A. R. Dyche Memorial Park. Pallbearers were John Cornett, Scott Carpenter, John Clay, Robert Fentress, Gary Napier and Dr. Mark Adams.
The London Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

GERTRUDE GOINS
Gertrude Bennett Goins, 83, widow of Paul Goins, Sr., passed away November, November 30, 2009.
She was born on February 19, 1926 in Boone County, OH to the late John and Myrtle Messer Bennett and had worked at St. Joseph Hospital – East in Lexington. Mrs. Goins loved to sew and quilt.
Survivors include: four sons, Bobby Lee (Patricia) Goins, Harrodsburg, Paul Edward (Patricia) Goins, Jr. (Patricia), Houston, TX, David C. (Erin) Goins, Orlando, FL, Emmett Henry (Denise) Goins, Tulsa, OK; five daughters, Wanda Jane (James) Scott, Lexington, Carolyn Grugin Roberts, Lexington, Ruth Ann (Eddie) Brinegar, Nicholasville, Deborah Sue (Bill) Baker, Richmond, Billie Jo (Jeffery) Fell, Lancaster; two brothers, Vernon Ross (Pam) Bennett and John Henry Bennett, Jr.; one sister, Grace Ann (Bo) Alexander, 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald Wayne Goins, one brother, Carl Bennett and one sister Glendean Whitaker.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 3, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, Richmond.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Ray Grugin, George Baker, Joshua Goins, George Plunkett, Joe Bruner and Alex Dennis.
ANN GOVER
Ann Harrison Gover, 44, of Junction City, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at her residence.
Born August 5, 1965 in Louisville, she was the daughter of Robert Harrison of Junction City and the late Ruby Mae Taylor Harrison. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Gover of Junction City; one son, Clinton (Tracy) Daugherty of Marion County; one daughter, Angela Cross (John Hall) of Lancaster and three brothers, Thomas Harrison of Parksville, David Harrison of Moreland, and James Harrison of Junction City. Three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in the Hustonville cemetery with John Hall, Angie Williams, Brian Moore, D.J. Stephens, David Harrison, Jr., Jerry Belcher, Daniel Salle, Bud Anderson, and Harold Mullins serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Steven, Nathan, and Jamison Hall and Shannon Thomas.

GEMMI HALEY
Gemmi Michelle Haley, 42, daughter of James and Barbara Haley and the late Dianne Golden, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.
She is survived by: three sisters, Kimberly Baker (Omer) Cowherd, Melanie (Benny) Boggs and Melissa Burrus; her brother, Mitchell Haley; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the First Church of God, 3220 Harrodsburg Road, Danville, KY.

RILEY HOOVER
Riley “Junior” Hoover, 78, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born July 25, 1931 in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Riley and Ernie Kennedy Hoover.
He was a retired mechanic and farmer, a Mason and a member of the Edwards Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Janet (Billy) Peel of Perryville and Donna (Ted) Kirkpatrick of Burgin; three sons, Ronnie Hoover of Harrodsburg, Jeff (Donna) Hoover of Lexington and Marty (Debbie) Hoover of Nicholasville. 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Dec. 7 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Wayne County with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery with Kevin Peel, Richard Kirkpatrick, Chris Hoover, Dustin Hoover, and Jackie Denney serving as pallbearers.

BEATRICE HOURIGAN
Beatrice Hourigan, 96, widow of Stanley Hourigan, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born March 31, 1913 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late George Thomas and Louisa (Pinkston) Litteral. She was a retired seamstress at Sportleigh Hall, Cricketter and the Mercer Dress Companies.
Survivors include: two great-granddaughters, Erica Nichole Patterson and Tara Patterson and two great-great- granddaughters, Kelsey and Kya Yeast. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was predeceased by her son, Glenn Patterson and grandson, Mike Patterson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in the Grapevine Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9 from 5-8 p.m. and prior to the service on Thursday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

MILDRED LEE
Mildred Katherine Lee, 84, widow of John Lee, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at Bourbon Heights.
She was born July 17, 1925 in Owen County, daughter of the late Price and Willie Hymer Switzer.
She was educated in the Scott County schools, and was a member of Clintonville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
She is survived by: four daughters, Thelma (Roy) Neal, Harrodsburg, Betty (Len) Conner, Richmond, Joyce (Arnold) Willoughby, Winchester, Mary (Donald) Butte, Lexington; two sons, John Lee, Lexington, James (Penny) Lee, Versailles; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Allen Neal.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 7, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Paris by Rev. Charles H. Kemp with burial in Clintonville Cemetery.
Her grandsons and great grandsons served as casket bearers.
Honorary bearers were her granddaughters and great granddaughters.
Memorials are suggested to the Bourbon Heights Activity Fund, Hospice of the Bluegrass, or Clintonville Christian Church Pavilion Fund.
