John Charles "J. C." Mattingly, 94, died November 22, 2009, at the Village of Lebanon.
Born in Marion County July 14, 1915, Mattingly was a United States Army Air Force Veteran of World War III and an auto mechanic for the Pickerill Motor Company.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Teresa Dolores Johnson Mattingly; parents, Anthony Emmanuel and Lillian Thomas Osbourne Mattingly; two sisters, Hazel Elder and Lorene Mudd; two brothers, Robert Sylvester and Joseph William "Toad" Mattingly.
Survivors include: four daughters, Edith Osbourne, Freda (Fred) Ryan and Arlene (Bill) Buckler, all of Lebanon, and Marlene Mattingly of Owensboro; four sons, John Russell (Linda) Mattingly and Paul (Gail) Mattingly, both of Lebanon, Mike (Pam) Mattingly of Lexington and Jimmy (Angie) Mattingly of Harrodsburg; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, November 25, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lebanon with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Bell officiated and Marion County Veterans Honor Guard conducted graveside veteran services.
Active pallbearers were Charles, Michael, Leon and Simon Mattingly, Stephen Ryan, Johnny Osbourne and Dustin and Zachary Buckler.
Honorary pallbearers were Deanna Hardin, Monica Peavler, Lori Roution, Beth Osbourne, Janet Ryan, Ashley Lamkin and Hannah and Michelle Mattingly.
Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.
JAMES NEAL
James Edward Neal, “Sack Daddy”, 88, of Salvisa, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at his home.
Born July 8, 1921 in Winchester, he was the son of the late Donald and Jenny Eads Neal. He served during World War II in the Navy. He was a retired farmer and employee of Kentucky State University.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ellen Crawley Neal; four daughters, Joyce (Tony) Bast of Salvisa, Patsy (Randy) Scholtz of Danville, Sandy (Buddy) Terhune of Harrodsburg, Janie Ellen (Ben) Stratton of Lawrenceburg; one son, Joe Edward Neal of Salvisa, 32 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three Sons: Luther Gene Neal, Thomas Glenn Neal and Donald Lee Neal.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 14 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Quentin Scholtz officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Ben Stratton, Buddy Terhune, Tony Bast, Randy Scholtz, Brandon Stratton, and Billy Joe Cornelius. Honorary bearers were: Joe Neal, grandsons, granddaughters and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.

TERESA NOPLIS
Teresa L. Noplis, 55, of Lexington, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born Sept. 5, 1954 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Everett and Aldah Dixie Fallis Taylor. She was a member of the Gardenside Baptist Church in Lexington.
Survivors include: former husband, Stewart Noplis of Louisville; two brothers, Kenneth (Joyce) Taylor of Florida and Marty Cole of Lexington; a sister, Karen (Paul) Koeberlein of Lexington and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Angelia Sheiffield, and a brother, Gary Taylor.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Toys for Tots or the American Diabetes Association.

PEARLIE RISNER
Pearlie Faye Risner, 58, of Danville died Friday December 11, 2009 in Danville. She was the wife of Harold Clement Sr.
Born January 23, 1951, in Stockbridge, MI, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Maltie Brown Risner.
Pearlie Faye was a homemaker who loved to play poker, but most of all loved her family and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: one daughter, Jessica (Dustin Privett) Clement of Danville; one son, Harold (Amanda) Clement Jr. of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Sandy (Rick) Castle, Kim (Pat McSweeney) Risner, Alice Walz and Patty (John Delamater) Turner, all of MI; and five grandchildren, Christin and Logan Walton, Haley and Lizzie Clement, and Caleb Privett.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margorie Anders, two brothers, Henry and Andrew Risner, and a grandchild, Baby Angel.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 13, at the Wilder Funeral Home by Rev. Hilary Claypool with burial in Deep Creek Cemetery.
PEGGY SMITH
Peggy Ann Smith 64, of Nicholasville, died Tuesday December 8, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
She was born on December 2, 1945 in Bath County, the daughter of Mrs. Emma Gene Cook Purvis of Owingsville and the late Emit Purvis.
She was a cook for Charter Ridge Hospital, enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and was a member of the Owingsville Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Bobby Smith of Nicholasville; two sons, Keith and Bobby Smith Jr., both of Nicholasville; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Hampton and Mrs. Amanda Ritchie, both of Nicholasville; two brothers, Bobby, and John Purvis, both of Owingsville; six sisters, Pansy Peel, and Gail Reece, both of Lexington, Virginia Lane of Wolf County, Rosie Brasington of Harrodsburg, Darlene Holder of Owingsville, and Lisa Baker of Morehead. Five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 11, at the Cox Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial was in Smith Family Cemetery.
GILBERT BREWSAUGH
Gilbert Burton Brewsaugh, Sr., 82, husband of Mary Jo Brewsaugh, died December 18, 2009 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born February 27, 1927 in Tampa, FL, he was a son of the late Herbert and Jeanette Morris Brewsaugh.
He was a WWII Navy veteran and a graduate of Danville High School. Gilbert was formerly employed by Kentucky Utilities and was a member of Southland Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one son, Gilbert (Missy) Brewsaugh, Jr. of Danville; three daughters, Deborah (Jim) Reynierson of Evans, GA, Denise (Danny) Moody of Harrodsburg and Darlene (John) Lovejoy of Shelbyville; a step-son, Bruce (Kathryn Thomas) Crumbaker of Lexington; a step-daughter, Becky Richards of Winchester; seven grandchildren, Jamie Reynierson, Lori Reynierson, Danielle Wade, Courtney Anderson, Lauren Lovejoy, Chelsea Lovejoy and Matthew Brewsaugh; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Reynierson and Harrison Wade, six step-grandchildren, Delia, Dawn and Chris Crumbaker, Brian and Chad Hunstad and Katie Richards, and one step-great-granddaughter, Jo Hunstad.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Herbert Brewsaugh, Jr. and Robert Brewsaugh and a step-son, Tom Crumbaker.
The funeral service was conducted Monday, December 21, at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville with John Lovejoy officiating. Burial wwas in Bellevue Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be sent to Heritage Hospice or the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society.
DONNA FRANSEN
Donna Mae Fransen 89, of Jackson, MN, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Survivors include a daughter, Robyn Sibbet of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 22 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson with the Rev. Dr. Martin Lucin officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials preferred to the Our Savior’s Lutheran Radio Broadcast.

GEORGE MCKINNEY
George Wallace McKinney, 88, of Frankfort, died Tuesday December 15, 2009 at his home.
A native of Bourbon County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Willa Margaret Colvin McKinney.
He served in the Navy on Guam during WWII achieving the rank of Captain. During this time, he received both the Navy Cross and Purple Heart. He owned McKinney’s Cleaning Service.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara McKinney; six daughters, Bobbi Jean and Darlene McKinney, Paris, Wanda Crump (Donnie), Paris, Robin Travillian (Pleas), Harrodsburg, Milinda Sosby (Matt), Milisa Harrod (Eddie), Frankfort; three sons, Jimmy McKinney (Juanita), Louisville, Danny (Nancy), Paris, George (Carey), Frankfort; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky McKinney; a grandson, Little Jim McKinney; six brothers and four sisters.
Services were held Saturday, December 19,at the LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Frankfort. Rev. Rick McClung officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. 4075th VFW Post performed military honors at the cemetery.
Pallbearers were George McKinney II, Matt Sosby, Eddie Harrod, Pleas Travillian, Morton McIntyre and Jason Behler.
Honorary pallbearers were Luke and Lyric Sosby, Hope Stackhouse and Max.
EDWARD HARRIS
Edward N. Harris, 64, of Stanford, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.
Born July 10, 1945 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ernest Harris. He was a retired farm worker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: five brothers, Michael (Rita) Harris of Bradfordsville, Timothy Harris of Lexington, William Harris, David Lunsford and Kenneth Harris, all of Harrodsburg. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Dec. 21 at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church cemetery with Bro. Lewis Walters officiating. Carl Mull, Bobby Mull, and Bobby Angel served as pallbearers.
Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

PHYLLIS MOORE
Phyllis Ann Moore, 58, wife of Cash Ray Moore of Harrodsburg died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born June 11, 1951 in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Alford and Ruth Rector Lamb. She was a C.N.A..
Survivors besides her husband include: two sons, Cash Ray Moore, II and Cassidy Moore both of Harrodsburg: one step-son, Allen Moore of Lancaster: one brother, Joe Alford of Harrodsburg: three sisters, Lois Whittaker of Burgin, Rita Phillips of Lexington and Teresa Angel of West Memphis, AR. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Alford.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 21 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Walters officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill cemetery with Randy Baxter, Joey Wesley, Ronnie Stinnett, Rusty Davis, Allen Moore, and Dean Manning serving as pallbearers.
