John Arthur Sleeper, 83, of Harrodsburg died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born April 20, 1926 in Marshall, MI, he was the son of the late Clifton and Dorothy (Hankins) Sleeper and the husband of Vivian Kreger Sleeper. He was an Army veteran of the Korean war, a retired Clark Equipment Company employee, and member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Danny (Betty) Sleeper of Scottsdale, AZ, Jon A. Sleeper of Miami Beach, FL, and Steve (Jean) Sleeper of Danville; three sisters, Nancy Walkinshaw, Margaret Halcomb, and Donna Stephenson, all of MI; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Lyle Sleeper.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Steve Sleeper officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

PATRICK PETERS
Patrick John Peters, 57, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Services will be private.

DAVID TUCKER
David Tucker, 66, of Mercer County, formerly of North Carolina, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at his residence.
Born March 26, 1943 in Jenkins, he was the son of Dixie France Walden and the late Frances Marian Tucker.
He was retired from Lowes Foods where he worked 18 years as a store set-up technician.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Thomas Tucker; a son Eric (Michelle) Tucker of Lexington, three grandchildren and a half brother Tim (Jan) Walden of AL.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynda Catherine “Lyn” Tucker.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 20 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with the Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating.
Burial was Monday, Dec. 21, at Lockhart cemetery in Erin, TN.
Pallbearers were Corey Tucker, Joshua Tucker, Perry Thomas, Todd Thomas, and Barry Suggs.
The honorary pallbearer was George Miller.

PENNY WITTWER
Penny Webb Wittwer, 63, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at her home.
Born February 4, 1946 in Ashland, she was the daughter of the late Freeman S. and Rosalie (Carrington) Webb.
She was a former executive director of United Way of Mercer County and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Harrodsburg.
Survivors include: one daughter, Julie Wittwer (Jon) Zivony of Atlanta, GA; one son, Clay Carrington (Kerry) Wittwer of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Suzanne Webb Johnson of Knoxville, TN. One grandson, a niece and a nephew also survive.
Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at the United Presbyterian Church with Andy and Stephanie Wing and Hadden Dean officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chuck Dedman, Nick Dedman, Dixon Dedman, Clay Whitenack, Danny Mobley, and Mike Matherly.

SHIRLEY CREWS
Shirley Jean Crews, 71, widow of Hobert Crews died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at her residence.
Born August 22, 1938 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Janie Drury Pinkston. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two brothers: John (Debbie) Pinkston of Burgin and J. L. (Sarah) Pinkston of Danville. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother: Ralph Pinkston.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Geoff Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill cemetery with Scott Wright, Chad Pinkston, Walter Gribbins, Jimmy Corman, Ronnie Young and Dwayne Riddle serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral Home.

FRANCES DEVINE
Frances Harlow Devine, 90, of Springfield, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Born Jan. 18, 1919 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Strother and Margie Sutton Harlow.
She was a member of the Springfield Christian Church. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Devine’s Grocery & Garage in Willisburg for many years.
Survivors include: a daughter, Patsy (George) Cocanougher of Harrodsburg; four sons, Bill (Betty Sue) Devine of Springfield, Wally (Diane) Devine, David (Sue) Devine and Steve (Beverly) Devine, all of Willisburg; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Devine and a sister, Jewell Phillips.
Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Bowen and Bro. Jesse Burn officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in Willisburg.
Pallbearers were Kevin Devine, Craig Devine, John Mark Devine, George Norris Cocanougher, Neal Devine and Brian Dexter.Serving as honorary pallbearers were Renee Cocanougher, Robin Potts, Pam Dexter, Karen Devine, Rhonda Nash, Paula Maupin, Kim Coulter and Megan Couch.

DELBERT HARLOW
Delbert “Peanut” Harlow, 78, of Salvisa, husband of Jean Beasley Harlow, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born April 13, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John and Cora (Brown) Harlow and was raised by Madge and Hobert Brown. He served in the Air Force and was a retired parts manager for John Deere of Harrodsburg and Lancaster, and a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, Kentucky Admiral and a former Boy Scout.
Survivors besides his wife include a son, Rodney (Barbara) Harlow of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Beatrice Hardin of Harrodsburg, Georgia Holley of Akron, OH and foster sister, Loraine Cave of Palomar, IN and a foster brother, Steven Brown of Harrodsburg.
He was predeceased by two sisters; Victoria Fowler and Pocahontas Harlow and a foster sister, Elizabeth Hardy.
Funeral services were Dec. 28 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Koch, Chris Brown, John Hockersmith and Jason Clark officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Kirkwood Cemetery, Salvisa.
Pallbearers were: Jack Garriott, Steve Cummins, Bruce Muchaly, Charles Gorham, Doug Brown and Steve Brown. Honorary bearers were: Raymond Freeman, John Alvin Goodlett, John Sims, John Thomas Sims, Jeremy Sims, Steve Cosby, Ronnie Broce and Winston Preston.
