Martha B. McDonley, 73, of Fairview Court, died Monday, July 16, 2001 at her residence.
Born October 31, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Russell Clayton and Virginia McFatridge Brown. She was the widow of Joseph McDonley.
She was a retired employee of American Greeting Card in Danville and a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School class.
Survivors include: two sisters, Andora Trower, Harrodsburg and Mrs. Jane Gardener-Bennett, Evergreen, CO; two nephews and a number of great nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

BOB GOODPASTER
Bob Lee Goodpaster, 69, of 199 Tyler Avenue, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Born April 14, 1932 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Jessie Y. and Myrtle Royalty Horn Goodpaster.
He was a retired employee of Genesco Company of Tennessee and the Frolic Foot Ware Company in Arkansas.
He had been a part-time employee of Car Quest in Harrodsburg and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Shay Goodpaster, Harrodsburg; one son, George La-Mar Goodpaster, Nashville, TN; two daughters, Georgina Ra-Mont Hill, Nashville and Tina (Mark) Alexander, Velonia, AK; one step son, Tommy Canady, Nashville, TN; four step daughters, Sheri (Phillip) Henderson and Diann (Keith) Hensley, both of Goodlettsville, TN, Kathy Shoglaud and Laura Rodrequez, both of CA; two brothers, Clarence Goodpaster and Willie B. Horn, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Katherine Short, Salvisa; two grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 15, at the Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN with Rev. Bobby Swift officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Greenbrier, TN.
Pallbearers were Mark Alexander, Keith Hensley, Phillip Henderson, Maxie Tate and Tracy Johnson.
Memorials are suggested to The American Cancer Society.
JAMES BEASLEY
James Oliver Beasley, 76, of Batesville, IN, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at his residence.
Born January 14, 1925 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of William Wilcher and Gertrude Houchins Beasley.
He had managed Wallhill Farms in Batesville for 30 years and after retirement owned and trained trotting bred ponies in Indiana and Florida.
He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, the American Legion and a driver for the International Trotting and Pacing Association.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, earning a Silver Service Star, Bronze Arrowhead, and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Kidd Beasley, Batesville, IN; one son, Timothy Beasley, Batesville, IN; one daughter, Linda Hendren, Lexington; one brother, William “Mutt” Beasley, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alonzo and Bud Beasley and one sister, Barbara Beasley.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, at the Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN, with Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial with military rites was at the west lawn of South Mound Cemetery in New Castle, IN.
VERNON CAMDEN
Vernon Camden, 67, Handy Pike, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at his residence.
Born October 11, 1933 in Springfield, he was the son of the late Brack and Vernettie Rheda Peavler Camden.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired carpenter and member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 1650.
Survivors include: his wife, Margaret Louise Sims Camden, Harrodsburg; three sons, Terry (Wyonette) Camden, Harrodsburg; Tom (Nancy) Camden, Burgin, and Brack Camden, Nicholasville; one daughter, Rheda (Dennis) Mayes, Rose Hill; one brother, Sherman Camden, Danville; one sister, Hazel Ruth Day, Crab Orchard; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Sherman Camden and two great grandchildren, Cameron Lynn and Christopher Dale Correll.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Camden, Lee Mayes, Terry Camden, Jr., Chris Camden, Eric Bast, Daniel Camden, Bill Correll and Glenn Clark. Honorary bearers will be Sherman Camden II, Dennis Mayes, Brack Camden and Tom Camden.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
CAROLYN PHILLIPS
Carolyn Joyce Phillips, 67, of 341 Longview Drive, died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born June 27, 1934 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Mary Harris Bruner.
She was a retired dietary aide at James. B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert Phillips, Sr., Harrodsburg; two sons, Robert Phillips, Jr., Harrodsburg, Billy Phillips, Mercer County; two daughters, Diane Preston, Mercer County, Susan Phillips, Harrison, OH; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Redding officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Caton, Jeff Gullett, Tim Moore, Travis Yeager, Danny Cox, and Dalton Hurst. Honorary bearers were members of the Harrodsburg Fire Department.

LOIS REED
Lois Lancaster Rue Reed, 86, of 449 Mooreland Avenue, died Sunday, July 22, 2001.
Born September 3, 1914, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Insco Williams and Charlotte Forbes Rue. She was the widow of Hugh E. Reed.
She was a life-long member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and was church secretary for 24 years, retiring in 1976.
Survivors include: two sons, Ronald H. (Martha Shellenberger) Reed and William H. (Bennie Kay Smith) Reed, both of Versailles; one sister, Mrs. Aileen Rue Doehler, Littleton, CO; four brothers, Edwin Rue, Lexington, Frank Rue, Merrit Island, FL, Leslie Rue, Harrodsburg, and Rev. Clarence Rue, Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arch B. and Insco W. Rue, Jr.; five sisters, Elsie McMurtry, Eula Lee Ison, Lorraine Rue, Zoe Overstreet and Mildred Netherton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Chase officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jay Schmidt, Thomas Reed, Bill Randolph, Howard Fallis, Bill Hargis and Todd Hargis.

THOMAS SHANAHAN
Thomas L. “Buster” Shanahan, 71, of Coxs Mills, WV, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 in West Virginia.
Born April 6, 1930 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Myrtle Northcutt Shanahan.
He was a retired mechanic for General Motors, Chevrolet Division, and was a member of Local #262 Auto Workers Union in Livonia, MI.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: his wife, Bettie Gene Peeler Shanahan, Coxs Mills, WV; two sons, Randy Lewellen, Howell, MI and Paul Lewellen, Redford, MI; three daughters, Teresa Potter, Farmington Hills, MI, Carol Riva, Dearborn Heights, MI and Kim Lewellen, Walled Lake, MI; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Boswell, Harrodsburg, Anabelle Miller, Louisville; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. J. H. Burns and Gene Curtsinger officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carlos Lester, Howard Lester, Gene Curtsinger, Bill Lester, Howard Nichols and Marvin Lawson.
IDA BAYS
Ida Bays, 62, of 523 Mooreland Ave., died Sunday, July 29, 2001 in Pineville.
Born October 3, 1938 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late John and Cordelia Jones Angel.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Harrodsburg.
Survivors include: her husband, Ralph Bays, Sr., Harrodsburg; four sons, Ralph Bays, Jr. and Jerry Coleman, both of Harrodsburg, Ronnie Angel, Knoxville, and Danny Angel, Boyle County; one daughter, Rosie Vaughn, Harrodsburg; one brother, Hubert Angel, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Almeda Webb of OH and Lona Angel, Louisville; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 1, at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Potts officiating. Burial was in Red Hill Cemetery, Rockcastle County.
GEORGE GRIFFIN Jr.
George Calvin Griffin, Jr., 54, of Highland CA, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Redlands Community Hospital in Highland, CA.
Born March 30, 1947 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Emma Morgan Griffin of Harrodsburg and the late George Calvin Griffin, Sr.
He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
He was a member of St. Peter AME Church and a real estate agent for Century 21 in Highland, CA.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Diane Griffin, Highland, CA; one daughter, Kimberlyn G. Victoria, Springfield, OH; six step children, Crystal Phelps, Tucson, AZ, Sherry Johnson, Perris, CA, Christina Preston and Dianna Hopper, both of San Diego, CA, Elvira Vega, Highland, CA; four brothers, Charles and William Griffin, both of Harrodsburg, Gregory Griffin, Springfield, OH, Larry Griffin, Columbus, OH; two sisters, Yvonne Griffin, Chattanooga, TN, Sarah Griffin, Harrodsburg; 26 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 6, at the Parks Funeral Home with Bro. J. D. Short, III officiating. A private family scattering of the ashes will be held at the gravesites of his father and grandparents in Maple Grove Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
HANNA HUME
Hannah Lydia Hume, 89, of 339 Cornishville St., died Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born August 13, 1911 in Dover, CO, she was the daughter of the late Arthur P. and Hattie Lewis Sanders. She was the widow of Bennie Hume.
She was a retired custodian and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Bennie Lee Hume, Harrodsburg, Jimmy (Norma) Hume, Russell Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Bobby (Alma) Wilham, Harrodsburg, Katherine Bowman, Graefenburg; one brother, Tommy Sanders, CA; two sisters, Mary Goodlett and Charlotte Smith, both of Harrodsburg; 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Hume.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 29, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
