Samuel B. Durr, 78, of 684 Beaumont Drive, died Tuesday, August 17, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born January 15, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Roy and Pearl Darland Durr.
He was a retired farmer, a member of the Bohon Church of Christ and was an army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: two brothers, Philip Durr, Harrodsburg, and Hunter Durr, Liberty; one sister, Eunice Spoonamore, Madison, TN. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Durr, Jr.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 20, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Howard Whitehouse and Frank Preston officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry Durr, John Durr, Richard Spoonamore, Joe Settles, Morris Durr and Jerry Burns.
FRANCES HANKS
Frances Stone Hanks, 72, of Wildcat Road, Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at her residence.
A native of Lebanon, she was the widow of Edwin B. Hanks and daughter of the late Forest and Felice Benedetti Stone.
She was a customer service representative with Adelphia Cable Co. in Lawrenceburg for 21 years and a 1947 graduate of Cardone Visitation Academy.
She was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church and the Homemakers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: two sons, Edwin B. (Della) Hanks, Jr., Danny (Janet) Hanks; two daughters, Beverly (Allen) Sparrow, Anita (Frank) Batten, all of Lawrenceburg; her step mother, Leola Stone, Lexington, two half brothers, Jimmy Stone, Prospect, and Forest Stone Jr., Lexington; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Johns.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 22, at Sand Spring Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial was in Sand Spring Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Hanks III, Chris Hanks, Jeremy Hanks, Jason Sparrow, Chad Sparrow, Frank Batten IV, Chad Morgan Batten, Brandi Daniel Batten, Katrina Boggs, Melanie Hanks, and Stacy Armstrong. NINA HENDREN
Nina Shewmaker Hendren, 75, of Mackville, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at her residence.
Born May 20, 1926 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Clara Crouch Shewmaker.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Mackville Christian Church.
Survivors include: her husband, R. C. Hendren, Mackville; one son, Larry Roy (Karen) Hendren, Freeport, FL; one sister, Jewell Settles, Lexington; two brothers, Kelly Shewmaker, Boston, and Manuel Shewmaker of Mt. Sterling. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Kay Hendren, a granddaughter, Michelle Hendren, a half- brother, Marshall Shewmaker and a half sister, Beulah Birch.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Ward and Bro. Fred Whitacre officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Settles, Joe Settles, Kelly Shewmaker, David Shewmaker, Robert “Butch” Russell, Allen Bottoms and David Bottoms. Honorary bearers were Harry Settles, Joe Logsdon, Donald Pinkston, Everett Lee Russell, Glenn Allen Arnold, Eddie Young, Doug Pinkston, Carl Gabhart, Marty Hatchett and Jeff Settles.
DONALD MAYES
Donald Mayes, 57, of Anita Lane, Richmond, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at his residence.
Born in Owsley County, he was the son of the late Abel and Martha McIntosh Mayes.
He was a drywall hanger and finisher with R. & R. Drywall in Lexington and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: three brothers, Bradley (Bobbie Ruth) Mayes, Cincinanti, OH, Bobby (Kathy) Mayes, Owsley County, Larry (Charlene) Mayes, Winchester; two sisters, Barbara (Henry) Turner, Owsley County, Bessie (David) Turner, Springboro, OH. Other survivors include a niece, Rosalind Turner, Harrodsburg.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 23, at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond with Harry Bevel officiating. Burial will be in Cow Creek Cemetery in Owsley County.
Pallbearers will be Larry Duggins, Rocky Chasteen, Junior Delbert Abrams, Elvie Evans, Donald Gross Jr., Shawn Mayes, Michael Turner and Tucker McCormack.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
BYRON SMITH
Byron Lynn “Bo Bo” Smith, 48, of 306 N. Magnolia Street, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born September 29, 1952 in Fayette County, he was the son of Price Gentry Smith and the late Rev. Charles Henry Smith, Sr.
He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School, a USMC Vietnam veteran, a former employee of Southern Railway and ATR in Danville.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Harrodsburg.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: one daughter, Katoba Tioka Jenkins, Fayetteville, NC; three brothers, Charles H. Smith, Jr., Savannah, GA, James R. Smith, Harrodsburg and Dale W. Smith, Detroit, MI; two step brothers, Albert and John Mitchell, both of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Irene VanDyke, Urbana, OH, Almetra Smith, Fairfield, OH, Debra Ann Raines, Lexington, Angela “Annie” Smith, Harrodsburg, and Laura Sue Hall, Katy, TX; one grandson.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 18 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Virgil Hill officiating. A private burial was held Monday, August 20, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County.
Pallbearers were Carl Bartleson, Larry Bartleson, Michael Dunn, Johnnie Johnson, Yohance Melendez, and John Lamont Mitchell.
Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
LOUISE WASH
Louise Graham Wash, 95, of 376 College Manor, formerly of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, August 18, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late William and Nannie Lee Noel Graham. She was the widow of Stewart Wash.
She was a retired bookkeeper for the State Department of Agriculture, a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church, Capital First Ladies, and a 1923 graduate of Salvisa High School.
Survivors include: one sister, Rebecca Lay, Harrodsburg; three nieces, Geneva Sanders, Virginia Yeager and Shirleen Yates, all of Harrodsburg; two nephews, William Pinkston, Harrodsburg and John Lay, Danville. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nante Bell Pinkston and Sarah Will Bunnell.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 20, at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Lay, William T. Pinkston, Tommy Yates, David Wash, George Shelburn and Brennan Boswell.

MARVIN YEAGER
Marvin Haskell Yeager, Sr., age 91, of 176 Alford Road, Salvisa, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.
Born in Washington County, he was a son of the late Willie and Hannah Barnett Yeager. He was the widower of Venie Drury Yeager.
He was a member of Antioch Christian Church and attended the Kirkland School.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter and an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include: two sons, Marvin (Faye) Yeager, Jr., and Larry (Lou Ann) Yeager, both of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Phyllis (Louis) Sea, Lawrenceburg, and Sandy (Kenny Long), Salvisa, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gilbert and Carroll Yeager, one granddaughter, Lisa Yeager Dial, five brothers, Cecil, Marshall, Orbrey, Orville and Everett Yeager, two sisters, Erma Hoskins and Oatney Yeager.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 23, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Larry Redding and Bro. David Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in Washington County.
Pallbearers will be Danny Yeager, Steve Yeager, Anthony Hamlin, Dale Hamlin, Timmy Yeager, Travis Yeager, Jamie Yeager, Chad Crouch and Doug Hazelwood. BLANCHE BIEN
Blanche Bien, 76, of 986 Martin Lane, died Saturday, August 25, 2001 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born December 1, 1924 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William and Tazzie Williams Russell.
She was a retired Genesco employee and was a member of Benton Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary (Rita) Herring, Harrodsburg, Coleman (Carolyn) Russell, Mt. Vernon; one sister, Jewell Proctor, Stanford; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 27 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Kirk Greenfield officiating. Burial was in the Williams Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Herring, Lester Dotson, Jeff Bowles, David Sams, Mike Lee and Terry Sears.

R. L. COCANOUGHER
R. L. Cocanougher, 87, of the Pottsville community of Washington County, died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at the Cedars of Lebanon Nursing Home.
Born February 18, 1914 in Washington County, he was the son of the late George Washington and Ora Purdom Cocanougher. He was the widower of Edna Logsdon Cocanougher.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, George (Patsy) Cocanougher, Harrodsburg, Donnie Cocanougher, Lebanon; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Herman and Garland Cocanougher, and nine sisters, Mae Goode, Myrtle Pope, Margie Cocanougher, Flossie Harmon, Florene Milburn, Faye Whitehouse, Georgie Brady, Cleva Goode and Golden Cornwell.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 26, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Oliver Hawkins officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers were George N. Cocanougher II, Mark Potts, Billy Dye, Terry Russell, Jeff Goode and Perry Riley.
