JOHN GILLILAND

John Gilliland, 93, of Parkway, died Saturday, September 8, 2001 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born June 13, 1908 in Pike County, IN, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bertha Cox Gilliland. He was the widower of Hazel Trusly.

He was a retired Baptist minister and a member of Orange Lake Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert Gilliland, Harrodsburg, Dalton Gilliland, Nashville; three sisters, Versie Hudson, Myrna Britton and Macie Marsh, all of Indiana; one grandchild, three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 12, at the Knauff Funeral Home, Williston, FL with John Hasick officiating. Burial was in Redick, FL.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.

JUSTIN HARLOW
Justin Neil Harlow, 17, of 109 Man O’ War Drive, died Saturday, September 8, 2001 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born December 20, 1983 in Woodford County, he was the son of Jan Brown of Harrodsburg and Mick Harlow, Lawrenceburg.

He was an employee of Jay Brown Builders in Harrodsburg, attended Anderson County High School and the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his step father, Jay Brown, Harrodsburg; one sister, Nicole Lynn Cammack, Lawrenceburg; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Roxie Bond Champion, Lawrenceburg; paternal grandparents, Marie and Albert Brumback, Versailles; maternal great grandmother, Geneva Cammak, Lawrenceburg; step grandparents, James A. and Sarah E. Brown, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald Ray Cammack, paternal grandfather, Mike Harlow, maternal great grandparents, Wright and Helen Mitchell Bond, maternal great grandfather, Allen Cammack, paternal great grandparents, Jim and Betty Harlow and Cran and Zannie Kincaid.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, at the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial will be in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Josh Kays, Anthony Bast, Jordan Cornish, Russell Oliver, Patrick Billiter, Kirby Sutherland, Justin Lockard, Skyy Brown, Isrial Brown, Chris Muncey and Greg Stratton. Honorary bearers will be Neal Young and the class of 2002 at Anderson County High School.

Visitation was from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, and after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Gash Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 11700 Commonwealth Drive, Suite 500, Louisville, KY 40299.

ISA HARMON

Isa Vena Harmon, 76, of 2313 Bohon Road, died Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at her residence.

Born March 22, 1925 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late C. E. and Lillian Hale Massie. She was the widow of J. B. Harmon.

She had worked as an inspector for Corning Glass Works and was a member of the Bohon Church of Christ.

Survivors include: one son, William Ronald “Ronnie” (Mary Jo) Keebortz, Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by two sons, Carlton B. Keebortz and Lawrence Keebortz, Jr., two sisters, Mary Charlotte Massie and Frances Massie.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 31, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Frank Preston officiating. Burial was in the Bohon Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Alvin Burton, Jerry Burns, Phillip Durr, Jackie Claycomb, Winston Preston and Terry Durr. Honorary bearers were grandchildren, Larry, Stephen and Jamison Keebortz, and Jennifer Hammons.

Memorials are suggested to the Bohon Church of Christ Building Fund.

BESSIE KEY

Bessie Mae Key, 65, of 726 Fairview Court, died Friday, September 7, 2001 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born October 2, 1935 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late J. Leon and Isabella McCormack Davis and was the widow of George Wallace Key.

She was a retired Registered Nurse for Haggin Memorial and Kentucky State Hospitals. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, Kentucky Nursing Association, and the Pioneer Saddle Club.

Survivors include: one son, George Key Jr., Moreland; one daughter, Linda F. Harmon, Mercer County; one step daughter, Suela Wright, Lexington; two brothers, Philip Davis, Trenton, OH, Harold Davis, Harrodsburg; one sister, Frances Teater, Middletown, OH; eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Wanda Lee Key.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 9, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Rev. John Contini officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Gill, Joe Keller, Ricky Burns, Bill Davis, Sonny Driskell, Nathan Arvin, Philip Davis Jr., and Tony Gray. Honorary bearers were members of the Pioneer Saddle Club.

Memorials are suggested to the Heritage Hospice, PO Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

BURL SALLEE
Burl T. Sallee, 78, of East Jordan, MI, died Monday, September 10, 2001 at his home.

Born May 25, 1923 in Rose Hill, he was the son of the late Herman and Stella Taylor Sallee.

He was a former Asphlund Tree Services employee, where he worked as a tree trimmer for 20 years and was a former employee of East Jordan Iron Works.

Survivors include: one son, Terry Sallee, Williamsburg, MI; two daughters, Donna (Dan) Russell, Charlevoix, MI, Judy (Pat) Muma, East Jordan, MI; two step children, Kenneth (Cathy) Downey, Mishawaka, IN, Vivian (Doug) Densel of East Jordan, MI; one step daughter-in-law, Charlotte Downey, East Jordan, MI; one sister, Wanda (LeRoy) Banta, Pleasureville; one brother, Paul Sallee, LaGrange, IN; 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three step children, Jack Downey, Linda Brilley and Jim Downey, and one brother, Camillus Sallee.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, at the Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth, MI with Rev. Dale Collision officiating. A funeral services will also be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, at the Battle Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Battle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Thursday, until the time of service at the funeral home in Michigan.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral home is in charge of local arrangements.

JOSEPHINE DOSS

Josephine “Josie” Denton Doss, 80, of 1720 Old Frankfort Road, Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

A native of Henry County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Addie Lora Neal Denton. She was the widow of Robert Doss.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Victory Chapel Pentecostal Church in Frankfort.

Survivors include: one son, Charles Robert (Tillie) Doss, Salvisa; two daughters, Lola Neal Baxter, Lawrenceburg, and Joyce Ann (Clayton) Dale, Frankfort; two brothers, Alvin Denton, Louisville, Duard Denton, Frankfort; one sister, Hazel Casey, Frankfort; one half brother, John Denton, Lawrenceburg; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 14, at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Don West officiating. Burial was in the Alton Cemetery in Anderson County.

ONA FREEMAN

Ona Freeman, 72, of 244 Oregon Road, Salvisa, died Tuesday, Septem-ber 18, 2001 at his residence.

Born September 15, 1929 in Whitley, KY, he was the son of the late James Leslie and Lula Martin Freeman.

He was a retired Head Operator for Corning glass and was a member of Claylick Methodist Church. He had served in the US Navy.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Currens Freeman, Salvisa; one son, Michael (Elizabeth) Freeman, Frankfort; one daughter, Mary Gina (Russell) Johnson, Frankfort; three brothers, Raymond Freeman, Lawrenceburg, Donald Freeman, Lexington, Bob Freeman, Sunnyvale, CA; two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmar and G. B. Freeman, and one sister, Mildred Craig.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ben Freeman, Bill Lyons, Jim Freeman, Dale Freeman, William Leonard Currens and Ricky Robinson. Honorary bearers will be nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Claylick Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation at the chapel after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday and prior to service on Thursday.

BENTLEY MAYS

Bentley L. (Linkey) Mays, 61, of 615 Storey Avenue, died Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born May 17, 1940 in Barbourville, he was the son of Jewell Mays of Danville and the late Bentley T. Mays.

He was a retired employee of Lexmark and a former horse trainer.

He attended Bate School in Danville and was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and was a trustee.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Arnetta M. Mays, Harrodsburg; two sons, Sean Steven Mays, Louisville, Jeremy Mays, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Arnee Mays Payne, Cincinnati, Sonja Mays Taylor, Nashville; three brothers, Butch Mays, Lexington, Marvin Mays, Louisville, and Wendell Mays, Danville; four sisters, Mary Johnson, Louisville, Rosa Smith and Judy Terrance, both of Danville, and

Anita Covington, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 15, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Virgil A. Hill, officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Andy Harris, Leon VanDyke, Jr., Wallace Parks, James Thurman, Scott Jones and Larry Hudson.

Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

VIRGINIA RANSDELL

Virginia Nelson Ransdell, 81, of Cross Road Retirement Community, Asheboro, NC, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at the Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Born in Salvisa, she was a veteran of WW II serving as a surgical technician. After the war she was employed by the University of Kentucky, having worked there for 40 years in the Department of Veterinary Science, retiring in 1991.

Survivors include: one sister-in-law, Tillie Ransdell, Randleman, NC; one nephew, Steven (Robin) Ransdell, Randelman, NC; one niece, Nancy (Michael) Magnine, Amery, WI.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 18, at the Cross Road Retirement Community. A memorial service will be held in Lexington at a later date, with graveside services in Harrodsburg.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, MAA, Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

MICHAEL WILSON

Michael W. Wilson, 51, of Lexington, died Sunday, September 16, 2001, at his residence.

Born March 23, 1950 in Lexington, he was the son of Arthur C. Wilson, Harrodsburg, and the late Joyce Griswold Wilson.

A graduate of Henry Clay High School, he was a land surveyor for over 25 years, becoming an Engineering Technician II for LFUCG in New Development Division.

A lifelong sportsman, he was an experienced fisherman, hunter, and archer. His creative nature was expressed in photography and woodworking.

Survivors include: his wife, Ellen Cotter Wilson, Lexington; one daughter, Christina B. Wilson; one son, Andrew F. Wilson; three sisters, Marecha W. (Jon) Wolcott, Patricia W. (Richard) Shewmaker, and Kim W. (Mark) Corman, all of Lexington.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 21, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Clays Mill Road, Lexington, conducted by Rev. Kendell Tarleton.

Memorials may be made to the Lafayette High School Band Association, c/o Dr. Kasarskis, 305 Glendover Rd., Lexington, KY 40503.
